Rational propositions for balancing DH

in PvP

Posted by: Azoqu.8917

Azoqu.8917

Apparently your reading comprehension is lacking as I clearly stated in that sentence

“they can JI or Sword to a different target that won’t be a hindrance to them I.e out of range to be a threat but allows them to port 1200 units away.”

Which isn’t a problem to acquire a target most times since a lot of players like to sit range and attack like DHs with LB, Rangers, Reapers or on people you can target running between points again you don’t have to have them wishing the 1200 range you just need to hav them targeted…..

Reading comprehension a wonderful thing and yes you can use RF and WoR as disengages you just choose not to and die on point….

Reading comprehension was not lacking there. What was lacking is a statement that makes sense since being able to JI or sword 2 requires a target that you will never get in time and even if you do manage to teleport away every other class in the game will be able to catch up with you and kill you anyhow. So there is no point to even try running away and you might as well just fight to the end.

And getting to the true topic at hand: the problem with DH isn’t with the DH itself, the problem is the fact that all the terrible players in this game (lots in this thread by the way) all got used to an elementalist healing their sorry kitten through the damage that was being put out. So once all the whiners got their wish of a nerfed elementalist, combined with a nerf to general sustain as well, a class that is built with the premise of being the sustain king (Guardian is the tank/healer baseline and it is not even the king in that domain, doesn’t change the fact that that is the baseline) makes everyone go insane because its main counter is now gone.

Yes the damage for a DH might be to high for the sustain they can bring, but if you want to nerf them than you need to do the following:
- Nerf all other damage from sustain builds in pvp, there is more than just the DH.
- Find a way to nerf it without destroying it in PvE. My elementalist really hates the PvP community right now for making it feel super clunky and unfun to even try playing. Nothing flows on that class anymore.
- Make sure the class remains viable and since it is barely viable at high end PvP I doubt you could do that.

Not to mention that the majority of DH complaints are because they are merging all of the different specs together. That is another strength of the DH, you don’t know which version you are fighting the first time around each match until it is possibly to late.

My guess is shelter would be increased to 40 seconds. Because a traited 20% of that would be 32, which matches the 2 extra seconds MoC gives you.

But since everyone runs Virtues why do you care?

Wrong.

Now you have a skill that is less useful unless you want to sacrifice the dps of unscathed contender.

I would totally expect that CD to become 40s . Also I am not in favor of making it a concentration but a meditation so running virtues would not affect it at all. Since it is a meditation maybe it would also lose the cast time so the untraited version still gains a “buff” even though the CD got nerfed. Also with the buff to resolve less people are running virtues since you do not need to in order to get your condition removal anymore.

And my idea for changing Litany of Wrath into a concentration that heals allies for the damage done in the area also helps with the healing aspect of Guardian. I really wish they would help out healing Guardians some more, mainly with buffs to staff but I’ll take anything fun.

  • Raids would be easier with this change, necessitating major rebalances for which the team doesn’t have time.
  • There would be reduced team diversity because you’d pick 1 of every relevant support type and then fill the rest with DPS. Fewer support players is bad in this case.
  • Changing boon share across all game modes breaks balance in places like WvW. Making it PvE specific breaks open world. Making it raid specific breaks consistency.

This will never and should never be changed.

I will give you point 1 but concerning point 2 and 3:
- If you made it so the boss actually hit really hard and needed to be tanked by someone who is spec’d to tank instead of just having the lowest DPS (chrono/heal) tank you would actually be adding something new to raids so the extra spots gained by easier sharing of boons would not be going to DPS only.
- Open world PvE is already a joke so you can’t really break it and I’m pretty sure if Veteran killer/camp capper/ruin capper/dolyak slayer didn’t exist most people wouldn’t know WvW existed. Not to mention for WvW 10 man boon share would let 10 man groups take out larger groups easier imo if they are more skilled.

You guys saying Shelter should be a concentration are all wrong. It would totally be a meditation and Litany of Wrath would totally become a concentration that is an AoE area that would let allies heal for the damage they would do.

And for people wondering why others want every skill to have a type: completeness. I bet if you asked them if Anet should make a spirit weapon heal and elite and fill in the other holes among all of the classes, almost all of those people would want those holes filled.

I personally am really happy with how they are doing presents in GW2 compared to GW1. In GW1 every year you had to ask the question: Will I strike it rich and be able to afford any item I want or will I get the equivalent of dog kitten given to me this year. I still remember the first year of presents in GW1. My monk opened some useless mini that I don’t even remember and than 2 weeks later my necro got a mini Ruric which I sold for 100k and finished my FoW armor with. So incredibly dumb those presents.

The OP showed no evidence of toxicity. Rather, they demonstrated that they don’t understand how much work goes into making AB ML work in the first place.

Work? Bahahahaha. Setting up a multiloot squad just requires you to hit the “create squad” button and make a LFG named “meta multi”. There is no work required, everyone just sorts themselves out already.

And you only really need 2 maps in a squad if you have multiple characters already loaded into AB in order to get the most out of it. Load screens are the true boss of that meta.

Thier passive heal for being in water also puts in traited Resolve to shame as well by healing for ~300 more.

Dunno if you have considred this but the skill calc has wrong values on the scaling of soothing mist. It actually has a 1.0 scaling that you can double if you trait for it. The traited virtue would heal roughly for 300 every sec while the mist easily heals for over 800 in that timeframe. Even if you took the fully traited elite healing signet as well you still wouldn’t even come close. Not to mention that the signet only triggers every 10 secs and gets 300 range…

I think we’re both agreeing that the Guardian aura heals sucks in comparison? Like I’m pretty sure an Elementalist could just auto attack with soothing mist traited and heal more than a Guard.

So in order to advance, you have to convince the system that you’re way worse than you actually are, and if you play your best in every match then you will never advance? Seems fair.

Pretty much the whole reason this Matchmaking is horrible. In a pip based system, there is no reason MMR should ever be used to match up people. It should solely be based on a range of pips.

Though I have a feeling I will cruise to higher leagues this season because I tanked so many games playing thief in order to get my 10 wins for achievement points (already have the backpiece, just need to get the achievement points). The classes I’m saving for the end are my good classes so I will cruise through them so easily.

Comparing these to the Elementalist’s Weapon Heals ours are arguably better when Cooldown, heal amount, and boon application are taken into consideration. Specially Staff Ele which most of its Healing is on 20sec+ CDs.

Until you remember that Water 1 puts out 1k heals ever 3/4s and puts mace auto to shame and staff in even worse position. Thier passive heal for being in water also puts in traited Resolve to shame as well by healing for ~300 more. Then there is the regen uptime that heals for ~1.2k/s. Guardian can only keep up that much regen by camping mace and then you have a really kittenty auto heal. Aegis healing is also so sketchy that I would never depend on it. And elementalist dodge rolls for 3.3k every 10s, not to mention the water fields they can blast.

PS. Remember this is all with thought to raids and not PvP for my perspective. Matthias mainly.

It’s no druid (druid’s honestly OP and if anyone tells you otherwise they’re a liar) but when you’re all sticking together it’s very very solid, just that range healing that’s not there (teleport/leap heals, but you have to move there basically).

I’d almost look at Guardian healing more compared to Water Staff Elementalist healing. It’s all about lots of smaller consistant heals while the Druid is about really big heals but not nearly as often. Once you compare it to Elementalist you start to realize that Guardian healing is terrible because there is not a good weapon to use for it. I personally believe that the staff should be looked at by the developers and made into an actual healing weapon instead of the random stick of mob tagging it is. And improving the staff would not be hard to do either:

Skill 1 – make it heal allies that are in the cone in compariable numbers to Water 1.
Skill 2 – increase the CD to 10s and make it ground targetted. It would heal those it passes through and detonate on spot for more healing. Being a blast finisher wouldn’t hurt either.
Skill 3 – make the symbol pulse a little bit of healing baseline.
Skill 4 – this thing should honestly heal per pulse and in total heal for 5-6k in healing gear and not the trash it heals now. I’d also remove the might stacking for condition removal and regeneration.
Skill 5 – allies who pass through it are healed.

Honestly the biggest problems with Guardian healing are the fact that the staff is outdated and a relic from the time when Anet didn’t want anyone playing main healer but wanted to give a support weapon. If the staff was made for an elite specialization it would do so much more than it does now. And of all the classes that heal, Guardian should be the best at it because it was supposed to be the class that was the closest to the monk.

Most of this is a thought from looking at the raid scene. Why Rangers and Elementalist heal raids and the Guardian, who was supposed to be the Monk replacement, doesn’t is beyond me.

I’d happily delete moa in favour of an elite skill that turns on friendly fire for a brief time (flags all enemies to take damage from all sources including their teammates) to all enemies in a target area.

Would be more fun tbh – thinking of “Mayhem” grandmaster illusion spell in skyrim.

Would also be funny seeing for example DH traps and other aoe decimate their own team. xD

It’d last for one second, all mesmers would think it is useless until they end up using it and realizing it insta-kills the entire other team.

And on topic: I don’t really think Anet needs to nerf moa more (more of the fact that some other elites for classes need to be actually useful). Though even if they nerfed moa, I think mesmer would be fine for the vast majority of players. I played mesmer for the first time yesterday and went 8-1 with rolling my face across the keyboard.

Suggestion: Boss Fractal

What would be fun for a random boss fractal would be something where you enter and there is three rooms you have to complete, and each room has a random encounter chosen from a pool of encounters that show up anywhere in the game. So one time while going through the fractal you might fight: Kholer, Lupi, Subject Alpha. The next time your randoms might be: Frost, mounds from AC, and Forge Master (Sorrows Embrace story boss). And than each boss would drop like 20 tokens for that dungeon. Would be a great change of pace to the game.

Azoqu.8917

As long as Anet insists on including enrage timers and other “kill fast” mechanics in 90%+ of the fights, this problem will exist.

You really think that without completely irrelevant enrage timers people will be fine with slow kills because some pugs decided that they are too good to be part of a team?

It worked in dungeons. It was much easier to find and fill all-inclusive LFGs than highly restrictive ones. And both groups were as likely to finish the content succesfully.

That’s because dungeons were made to be complete-able by the lowest common denominator. When you read the articles from before the game released dungeons were supposed to be insanely hard, but since any group was supposed to be able to beat them it made them easy with well tuned groups. Raids on the other hand were made to not be beaten by the lowest common denominator so they turned out harder than dungeons ever were.

And enrage timers are only there so you can’t nomad your way through all the fights and very rarely do people, that complain about the timer, fail because of the timer and not because of the actual mechanics in the fights. If they removed the timer all together the same people would still be failing the fights and would lose their easy to blame scapegoat.

We already imbued them in the forge for 3 slots.

Ya, but now you can put your stat increases/guard damage decreases in those 4 slots. And since that is the case I do not understand what WvW players are complaining about. The only ones that can really complain are people who are sitting at 143/150 because they lost their neck. And even for them they can downgrade their two +11s to two +10s and 4 +9s going down to 141 then increasing +7s they have to +9s and going back up to 149 then if they want that last point make one of the other +10s into +9s and do the same. Yes it does take a lot of time and resources invested if you want to raid. But OTHERS are raiding and that means it is doable.
The only problem is that others aren’t willing to bother but still want the benefits of raiding. Without having to actually do the things required.

Yes, and THAT is the problem that needs resolving. Glad we’re finally on the same page. So what solutions do you have in mind for players that aren’t willing to bother but still want the benefits of raiding?

If they aren’t willing, then they don’t get it and it doesn’t need a solution. It’s that simple.

That's why 5-man raids would not work.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Azoqu.8917

Azoqu.8917

I don’t think the 10-man part has ever been the core problem of raids. The problem is that 7-9 of those ten typically have to fill specific roles and each do them very well.

Finding ten people to do a raid with is fairly easy, it should take, at most, twice as long as finding a Fractal/Dungeon group. The hard part is finding the RIGHT ten people, having at least one person in the core utility roles who is up to the task, and solid performers in the other slots.

The way to make finding a raid party easier is to place less of a burden on “getting it right.” Allow for more flexibility in group composition, so that a randomly compiled group of ten members stands a solid chance of completing the boss fight out of the gate, without needing to prune and manage the group composition to get everything “just so.”

The difference between a great raid party and a whatever raid party should be that the former group clears it more quickly, not that the latter group cannot clear it at all because they are lacking in core areas.

As great as that is, there is a giant problem allowing people to have a whatever party. Anet allowed whatever parties to exist and complete Dungeons and that made dungeons become super easy once people figured out how to play the game. If you allowed that for raids, sure casuals could complete raids but anyone looking for hard content will not find it because it was made way to easy because terrible group compositions are allowed to clear it. And since that is the case, raids would become like dungeons and be a failure at what they were made to accomplish.

Part of the story in the action adventure genre is the act of defeating the foe. An instance without foes is lacking part of the story.

So, if the suggestion of scaling rewards to completion time were implemented, and casual non-raider types took four hours to complete the instance, earning zero current raid exclusive rewards, but perhaps some coin, or other dungeon type rewards, what would the harm be?

And to repeat, the idea is that only people able to defeat the raid in the current live time frames would have access to raid exclusive rewards. Those making lesser times would NOT get raid exclusive skins, etc.

You do know if they did this so that people could Nomad their way through the bosses they would start crying just after they kill VG. Gorse would have circles everywhere, Sab’s flamethrower would roast them, Sloth would have people dropping poison in terrible spots, Matthias would have tons of worthy sacrifices, McLoed is already this way, KC would watch them die of boredom as it takes them 5 hours to kill him, and Xera would watch them all have heart attacks. Very rarely do fights ever end because of the timer and almost always end because people suck at the mechanics. You might think that’s because people are in full DPS gear with no defense, but I counter that with the fact people that raid survive better in their full DPS using their skills than the terribles that use defensive gear and almost all of these mechanics do 1-shots and not damage that can be healed.

This would solve nothing and just keep the crying going.

And I am perfectly fine with letting people get more insights in a week (as well as giving incentive to help out after first kills) so long as you get all the bosses down first.

I like the fact that it requires 150 LI. It keeps it mostly in the hands of better players by making it super expensive to buy that many. Now I could get behind speeding up the process by allowing you to get a second insight off each boss so long as you have killed everything. So if you killed all the bosses you could go fight trio again for another LI. Then in order to get a 3rd insight off of trio you would need to complete all the bosses again.

I am just really hoping that in the second achievement for the precursor armor that there is a set that requires personal skill that no one can help you with so that anyone in the armor you know is a good player.

And why is that? If I’m offering a service and someone is willing to pay what I ask, then why should I be banned for doing something that is obviously not against the tos of the game and which anet has explicitly said is acceptable?

I think it more has to do with the fact that some people (myself included) are sick of the 1% rich TP flippers from being able to buy everything in the game. At times I miss games like WoW where if you had a Legendary it meant that your guild respected you and let you build one, not that you could just throw your wallet around.

I would agree with that sentiment, but attempting to block people from selling raids won’t change the fact that legendary acquisition in gw2 is almost completely a gold grind.

Not to mention that actually enforcing such a rule would likely prove quite difficult, especially since it would imply that selling other services would be against the rules as well.

And this is why I really hope that the remaining parts of the second collection require something very skill based that is done in a solo instance so people can’t get help on it. I just want something in this game that is actually skill based for once. The armor will be mostly skill based but there will be a few people who don’t deserve it that will have it after a while.

And lets not forget the lucrative business that has sprung up with the introduction of raids, that give some greedy folk massive profit, last night i seen wing 3 being sold for 1900g, now none of the folk coming on to this thread to argue in defence of 150 insights would do so in an effort to protect there profits would you.of course not.

I have never sold a raid in Guild Wars 2. And in all honesty I would love it if it was impossible to sell the raid so that only raiders can get the armor and keep it out of the fat cats in this game. I hate people who abuse the TP by flipping kitten and adding nothing to the community and I wish they would all burn. I also wish it was impossible for them to get the armor. Hell increase it to 250, 300, 400, 1000 for all I care. I’ll get my insights 9 at a time and it will be near impossible for the terribles to get theirs then.

But since that won’t happen I can only hope that the remaining parts of collection 2 actually require skills to get and are solo instances so that no one can help with them.

Don’t tell me I can’t have a specific tier of armor in a game based on cosmetics where stats are’t supposed to be a “big deal” just because I’m not interested in running your one specific brain dead rat race.

Umm… if it’s a cosmetics game wouldn’t you be more worried about the skin than the color of the letters for the item?

How does latent stamina work?

Your allies do get the endurance. I was using this during the crab guild mission to give the crab carrier more dodges.
