About the only class right now that can/should go power is Guardian. Only because they have no condi spec to speak of.

Power warrior is still a thing.

Though, it sure seems that Anet wants everyone to play condi.

Power Warrior is a dying breed, Condi PS outperforms compared to power PS.

There is also the fact that condi ele tosses out enough might that raid groups might change to just take a condi Warrior who brings both banners and the other warrior is dropped entirely. EA is awesome but when the entire group is condi it’s not as important.

there is a burn guard

Possibly, but will it do more damage than the quickness bot, erm, chrono?

It pulls competitive DPS for about 30 seconds, and then the spirit weapons die and the DPS goes to dumpster tier.

Don’t know why you would, whatever you can do with the bow you can do with the scepter (except the ward) while having more choices and dealing more damage.

Which skill from scepter or the off hand provides you 6 seconds of stability on hit like Deflecting Shot? Or a 1200 range?

Use Focus 5 and just block the attack that will interrupt you? It is only 1 stack of stab. And both offhands have 1200 range.

Until they add more ranged weapons to core, I will stick to longbow.

Don’t know why you would, whatever you can do with the bow you can do with the scepter (except the ward) while having more choices and dealing more damage.

  1. Autoattack – Scepter can auto.
  2. nuke – Torch #4
  3. blind/knockback (if traited) – Shield #5 for knockback, focus #4 for blind
  4. Burn Symbol – #2 on scepter hits harder and you can burn with Torch
  5. Ward – Only thing the scepter can’t do but it does have an immobilize which has a harder tell to see so it will actually hit.

I used to like the Longbow as well, but once they started nerfing it I came to the conclusion that it’s a waste of time.

And who says that isn’t intentional? Not everything is available to every class, and for good reason.

Somehow this only applies to guardian.

We don’t need accesible movement speed increase for every class, nevermind that literally every other class has it.

We don’t need low cd heals for every class, nevermind that again, literally every other class has at least one.

This is not what “flavour” is. Flavour is incorporating something to a class in a way that makes it thematic. Not trying at all is called “laziness”.

Man it’s like Guardian is the only class that actually follows the rules of not being broken ever. I don’t remember a time when Guardian was so much better than everyone else (symbol crazy damage bug aside). Guardian has always been a relatively solid choice but it has never been crazy broken. Even in PvP with traps, it was never so amazing in top PvP, pros didn’t even use it.

If Guardian was balanced like other classes the following would be true:
Empowering Might – CD removed so that Guardian can provide 25 might (hello PS, how you came out later and are a better EM than EM ever was).
Spirit Weapons – Would last forever until killed, they really are just terrible necromancer minions right now.
Signet of Courage – Would pulse every second instead of every 10 (Healing Signet).
Virtue of Resolve – This would heal for a ton more.
Tons of other things I could write an essay on (at work).
We’d actually be healers/boon bots like the description of Guardian is supposed to be.

Why the DPS classes, Ranger and Elementalist (the classic glass cannon mage archetype), heal way better than the spiritual successor to the monk (GW1 healer), Paragon (GW1 buffer), I will never understand. Instead we’re a DPS class that has never been near the top and only sits mid way. For a while we were actually 6th, only above Mesmer, Necro, and Rev. Considering Mesmer has a monopoly, Ranger is kitten easy DPS, and Warrior is a super buffer, that’s pretty bad spot to be in.

A complete rework of the skills would be awesome, so long as it hits next balance patch (unless Anet is really nice and gives it when ready). Though the weapons would be completely passable if they just acted like necro minions but I can understand why they don’t (shield and bow would be to hard to be permanent).

Forcing condition meta

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

There is also the fact that the SwS nerf really hit Guardians harder than most other classes. This is because every other class, minus Rev and Ele but Rev got a condi buff and I saw condi ele with the glyph change pulled 38k as condi, has a viable condi build in high end raids. Meanwhile Guardian is the only class without a truly viable condi build so they are forced to go power so the nerf hits them full on. Maybe if anet brought over the sPvP VoJ to PvE (4s burns instead of 2s) and made spirit weapons like necro minions (last until killed) then Guard would actually have a viable condi build unlike now.

Don’t get me wrong, I play condi in Open World on my Guardian, but that is mainly because I can keep 25 might up myself and have easy condi cleanse as well as mass AoE. But for anything that matters, Power is the way to go and for Guardian it got nerfed.

That’s funny, because whenever I try to normal-revive anyone in PvP, I get cleaved into oblivion (at least against half-decent players). There’s a huge difference between reviving someone at 900 range instantly after 2 seconds and reviving someone by teleporting them to you and then waiting for the revive to finish. Quite frankly I don’t understand how Search and Rescue comes close to Signet of Mercy’s current state.

OK this is where we differ, I’m looking at this from PvE and you from PvP. SnR makes a mokery of any res skill in PvE

Also I don’t see why any healing build would ever use retreat. Sanctuary scales very well with healing and it’s one of the best protective skills in the game because it eats stability like candy. Stability skills are also typically used on healing builds as far as I know.

Retreat blocks and attack and then heals for ~2k when traited. In WvW you might skip that trait for the staff trait so I can understand not taking it there. Concerning Sanctuary, that is a skill I have a love/hate relationship for. It heals for a ton and completely destroys breakbars but everyone runs away from it and the CD is long so it hurts for on demand healing and only emergency.

You don’t have to guess if it heals them or not because the passive isn’t worth keeping track of in the first place. If you’re using Signet of Courage you’re not going to be in close-range anyway, because without Renewed Focus you’ll just get insta-gibbed as soon as anyone decides to focus you. If you want the passive to be decent, it shouldn’t be close-ranged.

Considering I think the active of SoC is complete trash, the passive is one of the only saving graces that skill could have. I’m of the opinion it would be changed to heal people you apply boons to, or heal those around you when you heal yourself.

They both keep people alive, and yet they’re still completely different heals. I’m not going to compare Receive the Light/Wash the Pain Away/etc to Battle Standard just because those are burst heals.

Oh man, RtL and WtPA. Yes Anet has buffed RtL and nerfed WtPA so that the problem isn’t as stupid, but I remember when they were showing off the tempest (with Karl dying to Svanir in the PvP lobby) and when they showed WtPA. It drove me up the wall that it was 360 degrees yet the skills that is basically the exact same is a cone where your character will try to turn to face enemies half the time.

Search and Rescue doesn’t instantly revive the target upon successful task and it has 600 range. Signet of Mercy being a 1s cast on a 60 second cooldown would be completely mindbogglingly broken, and this is coming from someone who actually uses it. + %outgoing healing as a passive would be fine though.

SnR might not revive instantly but it is instant cast and therefore actually usable unlike something that requires you to stand around like a tool. Plus it pulls the person to you so you could res them with their put so they stand up way quicker than Mercy will revive them. Every time I think I could res someone with that signet, I could just rub them for 1s and get them up instead. Though I guess in a healing build, retreat and merciful intervention are the only skills that do anything, so I guess you could take the signet.

Signet of Courage isn’t a revive and thus is not comparable to Battle Standard. I’ve said it before, but the passive ticking faster won’t make the passive better. It’s a supportive elite and there’s no reason you’d use it over RF for purposes of survivability.

Faster passive ticking would make the passive a ton better because you wouldn’t have to play guess work for if it will heal them or not. More often than not, you’ll heal someone up and then the signet will proc and be 100% overheal and therefore useless.

Courage and Battle Standard are comparable because they both serve the function and keeping people alive and in the fight. You only take either of these skills to keep people fighting and catching punishing mistakes.

The buffs to signets are mostly useless IMO. Here is the current state of signets:

Signet of Resolve: The passive removal is way to long for what the current game is like. Every other heal outclasses it, even Litany.
Signet of Wrath: The passive is fine, though useless because if you want to be condi you need to use all your passives for burn aplication. The active would make more sense as a burn aplication instead of immoblized. If they want to keep immoblized then the passive would make more sense as 25% movement.
Signet of Mercy: Passive is junk, +% outgoing healing would make it more useful. The active should be 1s cast on 60s CD. Reason for that is “Search and Rescue” which is instant cast and on 60s CD.
Signet of Judgment: Finally the passive does what it always should of did. The active I have yet to test but chances are in a burn build it won’t get used with spirit weapons still being better. Will get back on this one.
Signet of Courage: The active seems respectible until you realized Banner resses dead and is doesn’t “fail” unlike courage where if someone goes down at the last instant it does nothing for them. The passive needs to tick every 1-3 seconds and not be totally useless.
Bane Signet: The only truly good one of the bunch. It also has a different name convention making it so you realize it is different from the rest and not terrible.

Or TP barons can get recked and have to actually do something instead of increasing the costs of everything in the game. Pretty sure if you asked Anet, the general agreement would be that the generation one legendaries were mistakes and they should have been account bound and actually required you to make them yourself with skill involved. Every legendary besides that one set is BoA and not BoE so stop using those things as the rule, they are not.

SMesmer QQ – how exactly was the guard coming close to mesmers with regard to quickness stacking? With the old CD, we could provide a bit more than 50% quickness uptime in the most optimal case, i.e. with 100% boon duration, the shout trait and with a mesmer for alacrity. That’s not even close, that’s a joke.

When FmW came out, it was 5s for 30s CD and the only other GROUP quickness giver in the ENTIRE game was Timewarp which is 10s for 180s CD. FmW had such uptime that 5 guardians in a group gave perma quickness and just Hammered everything to death with such efficiency. Mesmers complained like no tomorrow so it got nerfed because of that and quickness stomping in PvP. You can no longer quick stomp but it has never been unnerfed. And now Mesmers give 100% quickness solo and no one bats an eye but everyone complained when you needed to 5 stack Guardians though.

With regard to tanking, mesmers got that role for one simple reason: if you don’t deal damage anyway, you don’t lose damage by tanking. Even worse than druids outshining all other healers mainly due to one single buff, this flaw in mesmer design hurts all other potential tanks and mesmers themselves.

I agree with druids being stupid because of that singular buff, all healers should have it. Instead of alarcity Revs should of received GotL, Guardian staff 4 should provide GotL over might, and Elementalists should give it via a trait in water.

Mesmers tanking is pretty stupid but makes sense because of the lack of damage. Though the fact that they have tons of blocks/invulns without trying is broken beyond belief. Guardians, who make more sense as the tanking/buffing/healing/zero damage class, give up basically everything in order to tank or heal.

Mesmers are completely broken in PvE and deserve to have their monopoly destroyed, then they can get damage.

Then there is the boon spam that Anet said was Guardians thing, then Rev came along. I’m still of the opinion that instead of creating the Revenant, that development time should have been spent making an additional elite spec for each class and putting a mist walking portion into the story that each class would get the spec from. Glint would be guardian so hard.

There is also the fact that Virtues were nerfed to 600 range instead of 1200 range that everyone forgets is another way they nerfed Guardian support.

GW1 Player Character Vs. GW2 Player Character

The devs seem to believe that gw1 characters were the more powerful. They specifically chose to change character building and design systems for gw2 in order to prevent wbat was possible in building characters in gw1.

Mechanic wise I’d agree. GW1 character builds are way more busted than anything in GW2. I’d even say in pretty much any MMO GW1 character combos would be busted. Lore wise I’d have to side with the GW2 character though. Though this argument can go either way and only Anet can truly say who is more powerful lore wise.

I’d have to say the GW2 character for the following reasons:
1) You are almost always saving the world in a smaller group than 8.
2) Dragons are more powerful than the gods, so killing 2 is a pretty huge deal.
3) You are loaded up with Bloodstone crack cocaine and I wouldn’t be surprised if Balthazar gets empowered by stealing from Kralk and we beat him down because we’re so juiced up.

FoW is probably one of the MOST serious weapons in the game. It is a holy symbol to the god of fire. Has litteral cultists summoning him. I can agree that it could get a size decrease by probably 10% but it is a serious weapon all the way through.

I’ve been playing condi lately, and sinisters everything but helm and pants (vipers there) with balthazar runes will give you 99.97% burning when fooded up. You pretty much have to use torch and drop Dragonhunter if you want to condi though.

For using GS/LB I’d go full zerker or marauders because those two weapons don’t really care for condi damage. Though as a Guardian, you should carry every weapon you can use because everything is useful on a Guardian unlike other classes that can have that one useless weapon you’ll never use.

Sinister everything (helm and pants viper) + balth runes
Receive the light, spirit sword, spirit hammer, purging flames, feel my wrath

You provide insane condi cleanse (VoR, purging flames, torch #5), can give aegis, quickness, heal others with RtL, and always have 25 might so you easily top DPS and the AoE damage is insane and easily beats everyone. Because it is only a skin?

And legendary is a rather more expensive skin that just has the ability to stat swap so? And i was refering to ohoni which said skins shouldnt be part of prestigious rewards yet no one complained about these ones.

My apology if this was aimed at a specific poster. I didn’t saw quotes or references to anyone, so I assume (wrongly) that it was a general comment.

For someone who has many sets of armor in his inventory, that tier of armor is a pretty big deal regarding quality of life. The rune swapping only add more to it compared to the weapons.

I am pretty sure almost everyone could agree that giving Legendary to other modes is fine. The problem arises when the people want the same skin which should only ever be gotten by doing the current raids. Anet could add a legendary armor to WvW and I wouldn’t care unless it was the same skin, and considering how long it took to make these armors, the only way another set will be added any time soon is if it has no skin attached.

I just don’t understand the fundamental shift. The whole point of GW2 was to be a game that wasn’t like the rest. No mindless grind—even things like map completion at least allowed players to constantly see new areas—and play your way. The longer GW2 goes on, the more it becomes about the same tired traditions that it was supposed to be getting away from. Tying rewards to very contained content seems against what was promised at release.

As much as everyone loves to spout out play how you want, the game was supposed to always have hard content to do and rewards for it. Dungeons were supposed to be hard content and they did have very specific rewards to them. Somewhere along the line the game was fed to the lowest denominator and any challenge was lost and we’re finally getting it added back in.

When the game first came out, I saw Arah armor and decided that I had to have it. Took me a while to farm all of the tokens for a full set but it felt good getting it all done. Nowadays I look at the skins and feel bad because you can just spend 10 minutes a day doing daily rooms for 20 days and get all 6 skins as well as 18 weapons. Considering path 4 took 3+ hours alone to complete when the game first came out, if you completed it at all, is insane that for the same time as one path you’d achieve the work as 100 paths.

Yes, but that’s the inevitably nature of an ongoing games, things that take relatively high amounts of effort to get early on take relatively lower amounts to get later. If that bothers you then MMOs are a poor fit.

Actually most MMOs, at least for the important items, do limit them to only when the content is relevant. Case in point: Bear mount and title for beating Kaelthas and Verash from WoW. Guild Wars 2 does not have a gear/level treadmill so there is no reason to lock out certain items based on time (lifetime of the game, not how long it will take), but I’ll be kitten ed if they make things easier. Dungeon armor is one example of something being made easier and not because people got better, but because Anet gave it away.

Concerning people buying raids, I’d prefer if it was impossible to sell them to others but at least if someone is willing to buy them all it would probably cost them on average of 100g per boss kill and therefore 15k for the insights alone on a set. I still wish there was a challenge mode solo instance that you had to complete in order to get any legendary in the game, including weapons. I am also of the opinion that Anet should have made the last heart unlocking all of the skins/minis from the raids in order to keep the armor to people who raid only.

I remember this being said about dungeon skins at some time in the past.

And I’m totally of the opinion that dungeon skins should of stayed dungeon exclusive as well. It would be like making the skins that are only achievable for doing WvW or for ranking high in old pvp able to be received in PvE. Yes most people won’t care but the few that have those armors will be extremely unhappy that the work they put in for it is null and void.

I heard, before the leak, that it is a spec that focuses on healing, burning and quickness. With how the previous tomes were, I’d expect one focused on offence/burning and the other to focus on healing/protection with the new tome (chances are two of the tomes will be remakes of the old elites) being something of the buff variety.

Edit: And concerning zeal in new maps and stuff: I use it in my burn build for the might while rocking a scepter. You get 25 stacks pretty quick and then everything just dies instantly.

I couldn’t care less about the Legendary armor classification. If they made an alternate set, I might want that set, if it looks cool, but I would still also want the pieces from the existing sets. The two would have nothing to do with each other. The important factor here is access to the SKIN, not to the color of the nametag on the skin.

If there ever became another way to get Legendary armor, it would either have a new skin (doubtful that that will happen anytime soon) or it would just be blanks so people have access to the stat swapping abilities. You will NEVER get the envoy skins from anything but raiding. This is fashion wars 2, there are tons of skins locked behind certain content and only have one way to get them.

quip / hope
dreamer / the tiger bow
moot / eureka

All except axe.

Bifrost is not a joke. Just because it has a rainbow on it does not mean it is a joke (the Bifrost as in the bridge to Asgard is a rainbow bridge). I would say that FoW is serious as well. It is litterally a ton a zealots worshiping Balthazar, god of fire. Yes it might be large, and you might not like it, but that doesn’t make it not serious.

First thing’s first, it is entirely possibly to get leaped on a die at the very start. This requires a few things to happen though. First you have to fail to dodge the animation and considering the dog leaping animation has been in the game since release, and always hits hard, you have to be pretty bad to not dodge it at the start. The second thing that has to happen is both leaps have to crit you and since mobs have base crit chance, unlike players, it means each one has to roll on the 5% chance. Therefore to get the double crit, it will only happen once every 400 pulls. You just got unlucky.

Now that that is out of the way, the fight was really easy and I just killed the dogs in ~8 seconds each, 25 might is a glorious thing. The hardest part of this entire instance was finding the final excess energy. Probably took me 20 minutes just for that last one.

You make a good argument in the first paragraph, then derail it in the second. Raids do lock out players who don’t want to raid.

“don’t want to” isn’t a lock out. It’s a purely voluntary choice. Any player who wants the legendary armor in this game has the power to attain it.

Can’t and won’t are not synonyms.

If it’s really just a matter of choice, then there’s no reason to lock it to a single, narrow gamemode at all. After all, if what you say is true, that armor signifies only a choice, nothing more.

No
If the player voluntarily chooses to never leave their safe zone then they should accept the limitations that they self imposed on themselves.

Leaving comfort zones and trying out new game modes is something that should be incentivized whenever possible.

Amen to that. I PvP’d in season 5 in order to unlock the armor (always wanted that skin, even if this one was purple instead of blue). Now I could have complained saying I was locked out of PvP because I refused to play it. But that is a won’t not a can’t.

Anyone else still play core Guardian?

I currently play core Guardian for everything but raids, and even in raids I use core for W1 and W2. I use a burn build because it can pull 20k in a raid setting which is passable and for fractals it still provides a ton of support with resolve, courage, purging flames and torch 5 coming out once in a while. The problem with the build arises when the spirit weapons are down and the DPS drops from pretty awesome to trash (the 20k is the fight average, lose probably 6k DPS when weapons drop).

It’s also a WvW problem.

It’s a 3 second invuln with absurdly high damage. No other elite has this kind of overtunned offense and defense in one and is also restricted to race specifics.

Fair enough and makes sense. Reminds me of the beta weekends and the sylvari entangle racial being AoE, which if it stayed like that I would have rolled instantly sylvari.

The problem with Take Root is the fact that it outclasses every single elite for a condi spec when dealing damage. This goes against the fact that race should not matter for game play concerns and I have met people who have rolled new rangers just to have take root for the extra 2k DPS it provides. Now if you’re using it for the invuln part of the skill, I wouldn’t worry about it.

Edit: It is a raid problem, not a WvW one (though it could be, I don’t really play WvW).

Elite spec - What would you like it to be?

Apparently they’re like old tomes in terms of skills, but they function like kits. At least that’s more or less what one of the leakers said on reddit.

Which will be amazing. The skill sets of the tomes really begged to be kits to start with, especially courage. The game has got to a point where being able to swap between healing mode, burn mode, and buff? mode will not be crazy overpowered. Compared to when the game came out and if courage was a kit it would have been insane. Nowadays it’s just a CA.

The worst of all is hovering back items on light. I would rather have items clipping on this bulky skirt than hovering back items…

(legendary vestments vs precursor vestments)

The funny part is, heavy doesn’t have floating back items/weapons but medium and light do. You can really tell Heavy was the best put together set of the bunch (though troll trench coat is win IMO).

Looks like Tomes are back on the menu boys.

And my Axe.

So many books/paper icons.

Edit: I’m actually hyped for this spec over Dragon Hunter.

Champion of the gods or GWAMM?

I have both myself as well. Which one is harder and more prestigious? I couldn’t tell you because I completed both at the exact same time when I finished getting drunk off my ass in GW1. What I used in GW2 was GWAMM, mainly because it sounds better, though at times I would put on Champion because no one uses it.

Though since Demon’s Demise came out, that one has more prestige when it comes to GW2 for PvE so I use it at the moment.

This happened to me last season, I was going to push to get into the top 250 but when I got off work the season was already closed. Anet should really post the times (not to mention fix the rewards, because this season’s MMR requirement is a joke since lots of people didn’t play).

I agree with Dadnir. Though the way I’d redesign them is make it so each skill gives you a chance on hit effect (and have the weapons appear by your side in smaller forms). So like sword could have 50% chance to inflict burning on hit, Hammer could do KD etc etc.

Hammer of Wisdom used to KB target every 3rd atack, dont know even if that was removed.

It still knocks back every 3rd attack. Though the trait that gives burning to spirit weapons (2s per hit), doesn’t actually give full duration for each hammer hit.

Beta “Piercing Light” trait caused bleeding on trap attacks.

With how bad slow is on traps right now, I would love to have that trait back.

I know Anet has said they want to fix spirit weapons, but who knows when that will happen. In my opinion to make them viable, all Anet would have to do is make them minions and last until killed.

Meanwhile, any one of the OP’s “PEASANT” classes can bring a build which packs the equivalent DPS of all three “GOD KING OVERLORD” classes combined (or at least most can). Funny how that works.

Except both Warrior and Ranger have builds that pull the same DPS as a “peasant” class.
