precursor prices dropping?

Mystic forge. You need very large sample sizes for it to be a reliable, which requires both deep pockets and a lot of patience. The people cranking out precursors are throwing tens of thousands of rares into the forge; on that scale luck evens out and the recipes are consistently profitable.

How can you say that MF is a reliable way of getting a precursor? You can throw in 4 rares and get one, or you can throw 1m of exotics and get nothing.
Large sample size just means it will pop-up eventually not reliably.
Chance to get it is just that: a chance, it’s not guaranteed.

The materials used to craft precursors are dropping in price and more people are hitting the threshold where they can craft them reliably. Of course prices will drop in line with that.

I guess I’ll be the first one to ask, but: How do you craft a precursor reliably? And please don’t say MF, because that’s all but reliable. And what materials are you referring to? Like mats?

You can’t. But I think he’s talking about T6 mats. But there is not reliable way to get one.

I’m nearly 400g deep into the slot mach- um forge.

Yeah, I know. I’m closing in on 600g mark. Last batch was last night, 70g worth of lvl 80 exotics and another 83g of lvl 78 rare. I could’ve bought the kitten thing from the TP by now if I wasn’t flushing it down the Mystic Toilet.
I was just confused that people were quoting him and replying to his comment even though it makes no sense, since there are no mats directly related to precursors in the sense of crafting.

Not enough emotes & I don't like them being sold

@Ballistic – I was actually thinking of GW1 – it chugged along just fine in the beginning without micro-transactions and only started introducing them years down the road, and even then what you could get was minimal & limited. GW2 on the other hand is streamlined for it, and so imo has started to travel a slippery slope because you will find more often than not in todays society that money overrides Ethics, which is not good for anyone as I touched on above.

Well, you mentioned that you were playing games for about 40 years and that micro-transactions weren’t there back in the day, so I just commented that it’s not really fair to compare GW2 and games from 40 years ago. Especially considering that those games had no server requirement to let you actually play the games. That’s all I wanted to point out.
Other than that, I agree. Cash shop can be made as a money grabbing machine or cool fluff-store. GW2 with all of it’s cash shop RNG and limited sales, is still ok, IMO. Those are still vanity items (well almost, if you are not taking into account the armor and strength boosters), but I can just hope it will stay that way.

I should also add that many (probably the majority) of online games started out micro-transaction free, and managed to provide free content and patches. To do this was nothing more than good business practises, it keeps people happy & interested which keeps them active & loyal, while remaining Ethically sound! – It’s a win-win for all… So again I would ask, what has changed so much that this can no longer occur? Thanks for readig : ).

They have to pay all those PR and marketing bills. Those don’t come cheap.

Anet needs to continually make money you say? I’d be interested to hear your facts backing up this statement, because I’ve been playing games for around 40 years and micro-transactions weren’t there in my day, and here we are still playing games. Also, hasn’t GW2 in all its success sold over 3 million copies, so I ask you, where did all that money go?

You can’t just compare the games that were made for PARC Alto or games for Apple II computers, which had no need for an internet-server and GW2 which requires so many servers to run. Well, unless you tell me you played games on ARPANET or something (which is very, very unprobable considering that 40 years ago there were in total 40ish companies connected to it, and somehow I don’t think NASA or DARPA allowed games on it. I might be wrong though.).
Servers that run GW2 require monthly bills to be paid. Games from 40 years ago, had no server requirement. Even today, the non-online games don’t need micro-transactions. I’m fine with micro-transactions as long as they are fluff things.
I do agree with you on the RNG cash-shop thing. It’s utterly ridiculous and I was really hopping that Anet would be above it. But then again, I thought they would be above so many things…

You do realize that you can “earn” those 50 ectos on your zerker warrior; thus it is of no indication what so ever, how good you are on a ranger.

Precursor Drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ballistic.4531

Over 300g as well, over 2000 hours of play, no precurser. A guildie randomly throws in 4 rares, pics up a precurser, they had to ask what it was as they only been playing the game for a little while. Like everything in this game its down to luck.

Play time isn’t really a representation of grinding for a precursor. You can farm around 1500g in about 20 days played if you grind cof p1 hardcore in a zerk mes/war group (I’ve done the math), which is just under 500 hours played. So, they definitely have the rarity of a precursor (and in turn a legendary) done right. Where they get it wrong is the process itself is very boring, highly luck based, and there’s things that inflate the market drastically (like cof p1 farming is currently doing and has been doing almost since launch).

Sorry doc, but according to my math 500 hours in 20 days means that one day has 25 hours. Even if you lowered the number of hours played to 480 (as you said “just under 500 hours”) that would mean that one has to play 20 days 24 hours per day… Uhm?
Sorry, but this math makes me question your math… Not saying that 1500 gold thingie is wrong, just pointing out that it’s impossible to do it in 20 days with 500 hours of play.

Good to know I’ll have some people to play with even when I’m sitting in a rocking chair with an old laptop :p

I just can’t see that happening! If you still have the old laptop in a rocking chair, I’ll send you a new one that supports the at-that-time new MMO’s.

It’s actually 26, so he isn’t far off. Us video gamers will be a dying breed eventually at this rate!

Quite the opposite, the audience is growing steadily. The constant marketing focus on the male, white late teens/early 20ies gamer is just utterly disproportionate to the actual distribution of demographics. Take a minute or two to read through http://www.theesa.com/facts/gameplayer.asp for some interesting numbers.

Cool, thanks for the link, will check it out. I had heard a few months ago VG’s were having trouble attracting a new audience, at least on the mmo side of things. Good to know I’ll have some people to play with even when I’m sitting in a rocking chair with an old laptop :p

Ballistic.4531

I’m not generalizing. Its a fact. MMO’s are not appealing to younger audiences. They might buy the game; play it till level 10 or 20 then quit.

It probably has something to do with how the younger generations seek something for nothing and are too impatient to work towards something. The entitled generation. The ones that grew up with credit cards, smart phones and google.

I grew up with all those stuff and I’m still loving this game and the content. Oh and I don’t feel entitled. Sure, I don’t agree with some of the choices Anet has made since launch, but I still can’t wait to get my internet so I can play again.
Being entitled has nothing to do with the entire generation – it’s a personal view of some people from all generations. Saying that younger generations feel entitled is equally absurd as saying that all elder generations are completely ignorant to everyone/thing but to them selves. It’s easy to generalize, but generalizations are always wrong. And I mean always.
Oh and credit cards, smart phones and google FTW!

I just want to quickly clarify to set expectations, nothing in the blog post, nor nothing we’ve said anywhere has said you will be able to buy precursor items directly for crowns, this is not the case. We’ve simply said we’ll try and find some other places to add a chance to get them to the game until we’ve implemented the eventual precursor scavenger hunt.

Long term we’ll be working on the scavenger hunt concept to track down and earn a precursor item as a direct form of earning the reward. We’ll discuss that in more detail in the future once a design and implementation has been finalized.

Lets all start complaining after they have implemented the patch and we have seen the results of it.You can speculate all you want, but it’s pretty useless imo.

But then it’s too late. The changes are already in (effectively killing other classes), and knowing Anet’s track-record, they won’t back out of it – once live. If we voice our concerns now, we might, just might have a chance not to see it go live. (I know what the odds are, that’s why I say might).

Will WvW excluded from 100% map complete

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ballistic.4531

Ballistic.4531

If you think, as someone above posted, that you can get 500 badges without ever fighting someone in WvW you are highly mistaken.

Yeah you can. Borderlands jumping puzzle on multiple characters plus the rewards from map exploration will get it done. But WvWvW is kinda fun, no reason not to at least join the zerg for a while to get a few extra.

I’m doing world completion now and have finished one of the zones – just ran around for an hour at an off-peak time. Getting the others is doable but I’m not sure it should really be a requirement. Map completion of the PvE map plus 500 badges of honor to make sure you at least try WvWvW is probably the right balance.

I am sorry but I simply do not believe that you not once ever had to deal with someone of the opposite faction while doing the BL puzzles. It does not matter what you say..I just do not believe that.

How about a bet? -> Portal mesmer in EB, on multiple characters.
Not a single enemy. Entire puzzle has been capped by the portaling guys (it’s actually a guild I keep seeing), so others just walk to the spot and they get teleported to the top with (usually) two mesm.
So yeah, it’s way more possible then you think.

Kicking players w/mf?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ballistic.4531

This on the other hand, I honestly hope you guys get banned. Kicking a guy just before a boss is down, while letting him run the whole way with you and even go that far and let him start killing a boss and then kick him just before the boss is down? I really, really hope you do…

Umm, the problem with that is that he didn’t start killing the boss, infact he wasn’t doing pretty much anything during the whole run… I’m pretty sure he was idling during the event just because he wanted to skip it as he said during the last boss. Not before the event or at the start of the run. No, he said it at the end.
Also he was being an kitten at the end, because the 4 of us were apparently not carrying him fast enough.
How does that kind of behavior deserve any reward from finishing the dungeon and how do we, according to your logic, deserve a ban for denying it to him.

It doesn’t, but that kind of behavior can be spotted in the first few minutes (not going to say first few kills since you are speed-running). One warning and then kick. Don’t wait for the boss to have 5% HP left to kick him. I hate leechers as much as you do, not the issue here. The issue, for me, is you kicking him while the boss was going down. Why did you allow him to get to the boss with that kind of behavior or how you haven’t noticed it before the boss, is what puzzles me.
I believe similar issue has been brought up before, when people were kicking others and inviting their guildies to get the kill and path completion. If I remember correctly, Anet said that it’s a banable offense.
I’m not saying you invited anyone (or that that’s the reason why you kicked him), just saying it looks a lot like that situation – where one can argue that he was kicked for under-performing (which is just an opinion since you can’t measure it), but in reality we (forum readers) have no clue what the group did once the guy was kicked.
Oh and necro’s staff has it’s perks against a boss (in your case I’m guessing Effigy?), but then again I’m not a big fan of speed-runs, so I might be wrong here.

Ballistic.4531

I was wondering if in group content is kicking a player for using mf gear is bannable? That is…if I see a player running sigil of luck, may I kick that player from the party on the basis of lack of contribution potential? Having done that and that player reports me….is that report warranted and serve the possibility of me getting temp banned?

Note* I’m not saying I do this and/or have done this or have had this done to me…this is merely hypothetical.

I don’t think you will get banned over this.

How about kicking a necro at the end of a 15 minute CoF run that was pretty much slacking the whole time (using staff at a boss fight… I’m no necro expert, but every other weapon option must have better singletarget dps than staff) and complaining during the last boss fight that we didn’t skip mobs and events and that the run should take 8-9 minutes instead of dpsing the boss. Obvious leech, right? And being an kitten-hole on top of that. So we kicked him before the boss was downed… he wasn’t doing any contribution to it anyway.
I’m pretty sure he reported us all XD Hopefully the chat logs are being looked at when resolving these reports.

How is this good game design?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ballistic.4531

The game is far, far from P2W. You can not buy BIS gear at the moment. I’m not sure if it’s headed that way or not, but neither is anyone else. Well, except, maybe for the devs.
It’s not P2W simply because with all the money in Tyria you can’t buy BIS gear. Like it or not you have to grind for it. Ascended rings which are better than exotics can’t be bought (again, atm), you have to grind for it (either through pristines or drops). So a character with full-bought-exotics is worse stat-wise than the one farming fractals for the rings. Marginal or not, it’s a fact.
And one more thing, I’m so much against all ascended kitten that I got banned 3 times for speaking out against fractals and ascended kitten.
I mind and have a problem with several things in this game and where, in my view, this game is headed, but I can’t with clear conscience say that this game is P2W, no matter how much I mind some of the “mechanisms” devs implemented.
So I honestly, can’t see where does P2W come from. You can pay not to grind, to take less time to get to 80 and stuff like that, but not to win.

I get why we have this system in place. I have no issues with that.
I’m not suggesting infinite mailing, just to raise the cap from 2 to 4. That way we can send pots/food/whatever to our party members without the need to wait.
If you want to mass-spam 4 is still infinitesimally small number (same as 2) but if you want to legitimately send something to your party members you can. So i don’t, in all honesty, see the reason why they wouldn’t increase the cap to 4.

I tried trays (I have several of them unlocked on my chef just for the fun of it) but they just don’t cut it. What I mean is they don’t work with cross-server parties unless they’re spawned in the dungeon (not sure if you can do it, never really tried). But then you beat the whole point of trays and that’s to have a bunch of people take food from it – like placing one in LA.
And also, can you imagine eating a cookie in Arah, surrounded by the undead and minutes/seconds before you march to your own death.
Trays in an instance just don’t feel right for me.

I’m not sure if this is the right forum to post this, so if it’s not can a mod move it to the right place, please? Thanks.

Anyway, the mailing system is a frustration for me at the moment, because when I join a party I like sending my team mates chocolate chip cookies. I usually add “I would send you milk, but it’s account bound.”
As soon as my team mates see this, everyone is more happy and more relaxed and this tends to make random PUGs more fun and talkative. And you know – we start socializing instead of silent running through content.

I was also sending some pots but it’s the same problem. I can’t send it to everyone and have to wait, which only prolongs the start of our run and it’s just plain annoying.
With current limitation of 2 players in certain amount of time (5 minutes or so for the third and again some time for the fourth player) this is just ridiculous. I can’t send it to all of them because I get suppressed for over-emailing.

Can we, by any chance, get an increase of the mailing cap to 4? That way we can send the emails to the entire party without being made to wait some time.

Also, can we get some milk that isn’t account bound? (This is just for the fun of it)

How do you solo swamp fractal?
Or are you just killing mobs in there, not actually carrying the wisps?

You should report people for that.

This. I believe in some similar thread one of Anet guys said that this is reportable offense, but I’m too lazy to search for it.
So I would go and report them.

Related question: Didn’t Anet change how kicking in an instance work – As soon as you kick someone inside an instance, it boots everyone or does that apply only for “group leader”?

This has been reported a whiiiiiiiile back. Never got the response nor the recognition from anet. Not even going to dream of a fix in a near future.

Agreed and I appologize if I have offended you. I guess I misread and so I misunderstood what you were trying to say.

No problem. It happens when we aren’t having face-to-face discussion. All good.
I would also like to apologize if I offended you in my responses.

Arah Explorable Is Not Fixed (Video)

Instead of going down after you passed the invisible wall in the very beginning, go right, climb on top of that spiky rock and jump over to the big rocky slope and just climb on top of it. From there it’s 4 seconds walk to Lupi. The rocks and the walls are visible but you can walk through them.
So you can skip everything till Lupi in all paths.
I wrote Anet about this, but they don’t seem to do anything about it.
Also, less then a week ago, there was a guardian who used similar exploit and brought us directly to end boss in path 3 with a tp gun (skipping everything else!). After killing it we got full rewards.
So yeah, Arah is far from fixed.

3-manned it? Pfft. Look at the vids people soloing it.
It’s not the matter of how hard that boss is easy to beat it’s the mechanics I was talking about. Read before commenting. Lupi is, mechanics-wise, unlike any other boss in this game. The rest is just stand there, pew pew till it dies and occasionally, very occasionally, throw in some dodge just so you don’t fall to 50% of HP. Or you can just kite the kitten thing till it drops.
And Simin comes close to that compared to other Arah bosses – it actually requires some team work. Again, read what I typed before commenting, please.

if you want a boss that’s mechanic wise close to lupi then look at alpha. It is certainly closer to a lupi clone than Simin is. What are the similarities between Simin and Lupi? they have aoe damage and Simin occasionally blinks… that’s it. If your whole argument is about mechanics.

Also whenever I’ve done lupi I’ve just pew pew’d it till it died and occasionally dodged some of his attacks. Usually all I do is walk out of his aoes and juke his like nuke from afar as I’m kiting him from ranged… all the things that you say are apparently lacking from the lupi fight. I don’t do a thing different vs him that I don’t do vs alpha except turn off hide in shadows cause that occasionally resets him.

Also how is requiring teamwork for Simin any different that other group requiring teamwork? Pretty sure if you didn’t require teamwork then people would just solo dungeons all the time. Sure you need to be more coordinated for Simin, but not by much. Everyone just spam dps and drink ur pots, the guys on sparks do their thing and the guys staying out of the way stay out of the way.

Also the mechanics with Simin Require, 100%, for you to have 5 players in the right place at the right time with the right gear and the right specs. How is a boss that has been proven to been solo’d and 2 manned and 3 manned comparable to Simin?

Probably the most comparable dungeon “boss” to Simin would have to be ac p3, the burrows. You simply can’t do that path if you have 5 condition necros. You need a team who can actually deal damage to the burrows and the coordination to all converge at the right place at the right time and to make sure no mobs overwhelm you.

Now please refrain from making any negative comments about others when your arguments aren’t productive towards the topic at hand.

First of all I never said they are similar mechanics I said they are on par. There is a difference there. With Lupi you have to first make sure he doesn’t get the grubs, dodge his shadow stepping, roll out of the cage, watch for aoe’s, avoid individual attacks, rez downed players and so on. That’s no where near other bosses where all you do is literally stand in one place. Don’t even have to move. That’s a lot different.
Simin requires everyone to know what they will be doing and be coordinated. With other bosses everyone just assumes what others should be doing and fill the gap if someone isn’t fulfilling what they are supposed to. Simin is impossible with random PUGs without some great coordination.

Now please refrain from making any negative comments about others when your arguments aren’t productive towards the topic at hand.

This goes both ways. All I said was that I like Simin, you were the one to call out.

Hats off to the dev who thought of this mechanics!
It’s the only Arah final boss that feels on par mechanic-wise with Lupi. Brilliant mechanics, really.
I love it. To be fair though, I still haven’t beaten it, but I love it.
The rest of Arah final bosses just feel like they need some more love, compared to Lupi.

Lupi is very easy, not alpha easy but still easy. I’ve 3 maned him on more than 1 occasion with my guild. This boss is even easier to fight… problem is though the problem isn’t in fighting her, it’s killing her. She IS impossible to kill unless you have a very high dps team. It pretty much can not be done if you have a support and a tank. Even if the 3 other characters are 100% glass cannon, if those 2 are designed around helping the team stay alive over dealing single target damage, then you can’t kill Simin. You can fight her without any trouble for hours but you won’t be able to kill her.

lupi is no doubt the best boss in this game..
dwayna on the other hand.. require specific class to success..

I have no doubt in my mind that a group of extremely competent players could do this boss with any team composition available.

I honestly believe this too.

Arena Net never ever said that every team composition will be equal in terms of how good they can perform.

However, that should be the case.

Even the designers of Guild Wars 2 themselves don’t seem to understand the “no-grind” philosophy.

If they did, Legendaries would not be the ridiculous grind that they are, and nor would Ascended.

This! So much this.

And then they confirm this by reducing the requirements of Ascended items.
They reduce the SP cost from 50 to 5 and leave 250 ecto and 250 t6 mats requirement. LMFAO
And they call it reduction. Which I suppose, technically is.
