Same here. Every character, irrelevant of the location that I’m logging into.
There is no item called “Essence of the city”, however there are items called “Essence of X”. The X can be changed for any city in the game: Rata Sum, Hoelbrak, LA etc. I’ve not seen all of the pieces combined, but it creates a ‘city portal scroll’ – I assume it’s an infinite* item that you can use to teleport to one of the cities for free.
*It might not be infinite, but each city essence is worth between 10 and 500g as of writing this, so I hope it’s infinite.
EDIT: So I’ve traveled down this line myself. If you want the details, I’ve posted them all on reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3q1038/insert_city_here_portal_scrolls/
Thanks. The only part I’m missing is the Essence of a city. Everything else is just waiting to be combined. I will keep an eye both here and that reddit thread to see if someone knows how to get them. Thanks again!
I was doing the Halloween event and I bought those 4 Essences of Halloween.
After combining them in Mystic Forge I got Mystic Chest which gave me Pile of Mystic Dust and Mystic Keystone Crystal.
These two items need to be combined with mystic coins and something called “Essence of the city” to provide a city portal scroll.
Does anyone know what “Essence of a city” is and how do I get it?
I’ve googled for it but received exactly 0 hits. Also wiki has no info on any of these items (at least when i typed this).
Thanks for any info!
Hellos,
I joined a guild about 15-20 minutes ago and cannot talk in it. Chat works fine for all my other guilds just not the one I recently joined. I get the message you are not in a guild. I didn’t do a server transfer or anything out of the ordinary (except join this new guild hhh)
Tried all the regular work-arounds like going invisible and restarting.
Anet I demand eternity as compensation. Also someone please help
-Me
EDIT:
FIX THANKS TO KazualGamer.1294
- Stand Down guild.
- Leave a “random guild” where the chat is working (get reinvited afterwards)
- Represent the “bugged” guild
- Go invisible -> Online
- Try to speak in guild chat.Edit2: Follow those steps EXACTLY; tried winging steps on another guild and it did not work.
OMG! Thank you so much!
Just tried this and it worked for me! Thank you so, so much!
Customer support confirmed to me that they are aware of the problem and working on it. They can’t estimate when the fix is coming due to it being a complex problem.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Not-in-a-Guild-bug/first#post4957845
Just a suggestion … There is a button to represent the guild. Did they do that? If you dont its almost like your not in the guild.
You’re right, but the problem is more than that (I so wish it was only that). The problem here is that after you start repping and try to /g chat you get a message “You are not in a guild.”.
And some people have started getting this problem even with being in a guild for a long time. It just started affecting them all of a sudden.
I’m having the same issue and no matter what I tried it doesn’t work for me. After contacting Customer Support this is the reply I got.
Issues like the one you reported often are complex to resolve, and the time it takes to fix them can vary widely based on the severity and complexity of each issue. Because of this we are unable to provide a timeframe in which the issue might be resolved.
We are sorry we are unable to immediately assist you. However, If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us.
Basically, they know and are working on the issue. No idea when the fix is coming – sit tight and read the forums.
Same here. Did it with a group. We didn’t get neither the hybrid slayer nor the hybrid master achievements.
People are too selfish too leave after the event failed in the main server so the others in Overflow cannot join, even if i camp in the area and come back 5 hours later after School, i’m still in Overflow.
How do you stay logged in for 5 hours and being afk? Exaggerating or botting?
If you have a spot, please send an invite. Thanks!
Huge congrats to peeps from BG!
But did I see correctly in the vid, the guy only got 2 rares from the fight? All that for no rewards?
~~snip~~
I think I just found my religion! Will you marry me?
But they are not the same. One is green, the other is yellow.
Just finished TM of W1. Now off to W2!
But now I’m not sure which one I like more…
EDIT: W2 done too! Now, I’m totally confused…

I had this happen to me twice when killing him. You have to click on his mouth once he opens them. Then you will target the toad not his jewl. If you have him pre-targeted, you will just hit his jewl with the jewl piece that you are throwing.
You will notice that if you target him “correctly”, over his life bar there will be a different picture of him (a toad instead of a red thingie, which I suppose is a jewl).
Please, PLEASE bring back the first backpack.

There was 4 weeks to work on it (April 1st – April 30th). If you couldn’t put aside 20 – 30 minutes during 4 days of them 4 weeks then I’m dearly sorry, but what’s the point of having exclusive items if they just keep coming back?
I got my skins last time SAB was here, so I don’t personally care if they come back or not.
But why do you think that they should be time-exclusive? IMO, they should be exclusive as in SAB only, not first-time-SAB-was-around-only-exclusive. My SAB staff and gs won’t be any less shiney nor less pretty if everyone got them this time.

Nice try, but if you want to start calling out, I can do it too.
It was you who said initially that all i needed to do was login 5 minutes each day for two weeks, and I’ll have it. I was replying to that. You can scroll up, it’s still there. This can’t be more further from the truth. And that’s what my reply was all about, but you took it to another level.I never said that one needs to have it tomorrow, nor the day after. In fact all I sad is that I won’t be able to get it in 2 weeks, like Lindsey mentioned in her video. How you understood that I want it “urgently” is beyond me, since I won’t go for ascended weapon, at all. I’ll be happy with my Legendary.
Do you even realize how much of dungeon running or WvW, one will need to do to get all the mats needed for the ascended, with current dungeon/WvW rewards? Champ-specific mats, jumping puzzle-specific mats, exotic-mats and so on…
I like how you keep conveniently forgetting the “full” story and full requirements. Back item: yeah you have 2 ways to get it, grind FotM or craft it. Nice way to forget that you still need to play FotM to get those mist essences, that are required by the recipe. So you are still locked into playing FotM. Also, when FotM was released the only way to get rings was through Maw bonus chest. Later they introduced pristines. Same goes for all other trinkets. Initially, there was only one way in getting them.
Again, I don’t know about you, but I got an exotic only once from all the world bosses I ever did. Only once. And it was some exotic mask from the bonus chest. Once! I can only dream of dropping something of any real value, Forget about the precursors. So with that drop rate of exotics, what do you honestly think that the drop rate of Teq’s ascended will be? I honestly hope it will be higher, but I highly doubt it.Stop dismissing any argument people have just because it doesn’t conform to your play style. I don’t do much of the open world. It’s boring. Dungeons are fun, and I mostly run Arah because it’s pure fun, mechanic-, lore- and graphics-wise. IMO, it’s the most lore-heavy dungeon in this game. And I do WvW. So where does that leave people with similar playstyles as mine, who will go for ascended. Again, just because you like to roam open world, doesn’t mean the rest of the players have to do the same.
And please, stop pulling out arbitrary numbers out of thin air, just because they suit your point. This goes for all sides.
If you have all required mats already from playing the game the past few months, then all you really need to do is login at a craft center and hit the button. Or at a place of power. Then log back out.
If you dont have the mats that have been available for the past year, then sure your gonna have to play catch up a little bit. But thats like a brand new player complaining he has to craft to 400 and get to level 80 and that he has no gold -.-.
And again Ascended isn’t really required for anything. Yes its a small stat boost but its not needed nor required to remain competitive in any way shape or form. This is because the game is not built around stats but rather built around dodging, reading a fight and knowledge of the profession you are fighting as well as your build vs their build. Gear is the very last and farthest thing on the pvp totem pole in GW2. That however is not true about other mmo’s like WoW and games like Aion etc etc.
I enjoy playing the game. I am not going to login after the patch and say omg omg I need to start grinding. I will go check out the new content and changes. Go get my kitten kicked by the new dragon revamp with everyone else on the server. I will then go look at my crafting see what I have what I dont have and get to 500 (which in reality will probably take only 15-30 minutes). Probably do my daily, maybe monthly if its not gonna be to time consuming.
And if you have the Ascended weapon, you won’t have to do anything to get it! That logic is a bit, weird to me. But whatever, that’s ok. I’m not arguing here if ascended are good, not good, grind, not grind. I did that back in november. If i remember correctly, the “feedback” thread, at the moment of locking, had something like 120k+ posts in it. It didn’t change anything. I knew the rest of ascended tier is coming so I accepted that and decided (after my 3 months break) to continue playing.
Again, I’m not arguing here anything about how good/bad ascended is for the game. I’m arguing with the premise that all I have to do is login 5 mins a day and magically, ascended weapons will drop from the sky for me.
Edit: Missed k in 120k+

Read the below quote from Mike O’Brien, President of Arenanet.
Two things to understand before reading:
-Ascended gear is mower powerful than exotic. To debate otherwise is silly.
-You do not need ascended gear for most content — This is not the point!“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”
-Mike Obrien, President of Arenanet
Discuss and tell me how time-gating a new tier of weapons and gear that has better stats obeys what Mike O’Brien said in his quote.
Logging in for 5 minutes a day to craft your one time daily materials for 2 weeks is not what i consider
“If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. "Thats a total of like 70 minutes worth of your time spread over 2 weeks. How does that fall into the category of playing thousands of hours and not realistic to get…..
Just pointing out the obvious.
Because I first need to level up my weapon smith (and w/e other crafting profession I need to level up) to 400, and with current prices, it’s all but cheap. Second, I need to grind to get the mats and craft the exotics at 400 to get to 450. Then I need to grind to get the mats to make t7 mats to go to 500. Then, I need to grind for new mats so I can finally, login once a day for 5 minutes and do what you say.
Yeah, it’s not much time to press craft once or twice per day, but you conveniently forgot all the grind that comes before you are able to press that one button.
Just pointing out the obvious.Oh sorry add 8 hours to get your crafting up…. -.-
You dont have to grind new mats just play regularly like you normally do. Should have enough mats just from that.Stop over exaggerating things lol
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Ascended-Crafting-Material-List
I don’t know how you play, but my gameplay doesn’t drop 450 Mithril Ingots in 2 weeks. Actually, I don’t think I would be able to get that many ingots if I collected all of my mithril ore from day one. And that is just one tiny part of it all. Might want to check the full list, before telling me I’m exaggerating.

Actually this sounds like a good idea, just without the second voting. Once the truth has been uncovered Evon gets kicked from the Council and Kiel gets his place, fulfilling her pre-election promises. That way we get both fractals and both the sale and the WP cost reduction.
I haven’t played GW1 but I’m voting for Abaddon. I’m curious to see how Abaddon fell (I read some info on GW Wiki but it’s not enough)! And besides, Reactor exploded… Big deal! Chernobyl also did… No gremlins there.
Please be so kind and prove me wrong, about gremlins and Chernobyl. Would be super cool!
Invisible pink gremlins. Very difficult to catch, more difficult to film.
I was really hopping to see one of those, standing between Ukranian scientists and a meltdown in the background. Now that is something I would totally vote for!

My stance on this issue is that ANYTHING in a game can be optional. but as soon as you set a goal in the game, if there be but one way to achieve that goal then that means it is a necessity for the goal. thus, need. So i dont get why people need to tell others what they shud choose to aim for.
But by this logic, you should be complaining about all the dungeon skins too. You can’t get Arah or HoTW (or any other dungeon) armor skins without running those dungeons multiple times. It’s exactly the same thing.
Well not really, for dungeon armors you can get it only by running dungeons, and with achievements you can basically play any part of the game that you like and still progress towards the Zenith skins (since you need only 1k of achievements).
Without ‘those people’ you wouldn’t have ranks in WvW, spectator mode in sPvP or fractals.
I could live without fractals and ascended kitten. Easily.
I actually like the animation of the axe. It’s subtle and yet clearly visible. I also didn’t like the animation of the sickle as I thought it was a bit over the top, but I still bought all 3. I’ve bought them for convenience, not for their animations.
…aside from blood types, yet anyone can be any blood type at birth…
Nope. Your blood type is determined by the blood types of your parents. It’s purely genetic. Same as your eye color.
Maybe you are seeing the new glancing effect? Glancing was changed with the latest patch to activate on all attacks, while pre-patch it was activating only on non-crits.
I noticed that when I fumble, there is no crit in that case.
They are listed in the friends list, right from the player’s name.
I hope they are going to take PvE down soon until the patch is released. I don’t like this bullkitten – can’t play WvW and all the PvE players still can turn off their brains and farm their dungeons repeatedly… but then again… they might get kicked out of the dungeon when 5 minutes earlier they announce the patches. There might be a few that did not see the warning a few hours ealier and I’m sure they are not going to send another 1-2 hours warning cause they already did this. Next warning will be max 5 minutes(I think usually it’s only 1-2 minuets.
If you are in an instance (this includes dungeons) you have 3 hours before you are kicked out. Non-instanced PVE gets 3 minutes.
Awesome stuff indeed. Amazing voice acting too. I got chills down my spine when she started talking.
Really great job Anet!
There is no fun in slaying 1000 of 1 type of creature either.
Or discovering every PoI on the Borderlands 3 times over.Achievements by nature mostly suck. I don’t see this one as any different.
That being said, had a pretty fun time with my run with all sorts of stupid jokes going on in map chats
To me that’s different, because those things are more dynamic than WPing and dancing for a second in front of an effigy. Discovering those POIs with enemy players trying to kill me is fun, IMO. It’s just not that static.
And besides those achievements are permanent, meaning i can do a part of it today, a part of it in a month. No need to do it whole in 3 days.

I agree. 50 is just boring. There is nothing fun in running from one to another (I actually WPed between them).
If it was 10 I would understand. 50 – just pointless.
That must be an old pic or I’m missing something. I thought they’ve merged the white and green text into one on ascended stuff. So you can’t see the white text anymore (it’s already accounted in the green text you can see on the items now).
You can create both offensive and defensive infusions with AR in them. Here are the links from wiki with the recipes for creating them in MF.
Offensive infusions:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Malign_Infusion (5 condi dmg, 5 AR)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mighty_Infusion (5 pow, 5 AR)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Precise_Infusion (5 precision, 5 AR)
Defensive infusions:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Infusion (5 heal pow, 5 AR)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Resilient_Infusion (5 tough, 5 aR)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vital_Infusion (5 vit, 5AR)
We don’t all have the luxury of time, nor do we all have the same play style.
While I completely agree with this, I just want to comment on
Or those in WvW or SPvP.
SPvP has it’s own daily category. So just by playing SPvP you will get your daily. By playing just WvW you can get 3/5. You can also gather in W3, which would be 4/5. Then that last one is visiting a laurel, salvaging some stuff, crafting or something similar and all of that fifth daily can be done in W3.
I want a option for muting voice acting. I do not ever want to hear my male Asura say: ‘’I am defeated, but you don’t know it yet.’’ ever again. Anyone else feel me? This must be the most frustrating experience I have ever had in any mmorpg within this franchise.
I’ve never heard my asura say “I am defeated…”. Ever. What it sounds to me is him saying “I’ve beaten you, but you don’t know it yet” and I find it hilarious, because it happens when I break combat.
More and more I am experiencing this habit that the community has to despise people who claim to be skilled for this game.
Try it: go to LA, and say that you are a good player.
People will instantly tell you that you lack humility, that you are an elitist, that you are despicable etc; for no reason.
People do not want to see or be aware of the fact that some players can be more skilled than them (no boasting, just statement of skill). The community seem to believe that they would be better off without such players.
It appears as if the community would like to stay bad and play only with bad people. It is also the same on the forums.
I believe this is not benefiting the game in itself because it promotes stale and boring gameplay additions rather than diverse and challenging content.
As a comparison: when you play football as an amateur you play it for fun and you dream of being as skilled as the players of international level. In GW2 the ’amateurs" have no such dreams, worse: they do not want to face the fact that being better is possible.
With all due respect, why the discrimination?
Just a question: How do you know you are better than everyone else? And when I say better I mean more skilled. How exactly do you measure your level of skill compared to all other players from your server (shouting in LA) or all other GW2 players (forums)?
IMO, the problem with claiming to be more skilled than other people is problematic, because “being skilled” is a subjective view and something I don’t think you can measure precisely. This especially goes, because of the inequality of classes.
Hopefully, never again.
100.000 * 5c = 500.000c = 50g
They are 60g now so I don’t think they will get any cheaper than this… Which is too bad, I really like these wings. Don’t like the Shattered ones, one bit.
Considering he got 2 rares from 1 chest, I’m guessing he is talking about meta-events. And also, I have never, ever seen mats drop from the JP chests.
But if so, why do just lvl 80 zones? All world bosses give you at least a rare.
I’ve personally done a lot of testing on drop rates (wvw, chests, pve, etc) using a character I have geared/booned to have over 400-500% magic find. I’ve found – at that percentage of MF – that rares (yellow) have a 10-20% chance to drop, exotics (orange) have a 0-10% chance to drop, and precursors and greater have about a 1% chance to drop. I provide a range because of the RNG system, and RNG really relies on a large statistical pool (i.e. rares drop 20% out of 10,000 or more drops, but if you look at 100 drops, you’re more likely to see a rare drop 10% of the time.) Precursors and greater items really do have a very low drop-rate, and you’d need to farm an area for over 1,000 drops to se consistent drops – Now enters diminishing returns…
Honestly though, if you want to have better luck on the chests, you need to put on your MF gear before you open them. I always equip my MF gear before opening any chests (BL, SS, etc) and every time I’ve done that, I get minis, skins, etc.
Dev’s have stated on multiple occasions that MF doesn’t affect chests, so I’m not sure how good MF is when opening these WvW chests.
By the way, what do you mean by “precursors or better”? What is better than a precursor drop?A Dev response.
Would be kinda hard to get those from a chest…
Uh, oh! I see what you did there!

I’m not a RPer, but I’ll sign this.
I honestly see no bad from giving RPers a few spots. It’s not like they are asking a whole dungeon from you, like other groups. They are not even asking to change something in the district. Nothing to be developed, nothing new. You already have everything there, so just let them have it.
How can you say that MF is a reliable way of getting a precursor?
I suspect we’re simply looking at this in very different ways. You should not be throwing rares into the forge hoping to get a precursor; on that scale you should be saving your money and investing elsewhere.
You throw rares into the forge when you are operating on a scale where you are trying to produce several precursors.
Trying for a precursor is gambling. Throwing 10,000 rares into the forge is a business plan. You don’t do this when you’re trying to figure out how to afford a precursor; you do it when you’re trying to figure out how to invest all the money you have because you’re treating your gold count as a high score.
I was just commenting on the part reliable way. Otherwise, I do agree with what you said here. Although, not sure why would you want that high score. But that’s a different discussion.
Mystic forge. You need very large sample sizes for it to be a reliable, which requires both deep pockets and a lot of patience. The people cranking out precursors are throwing tens of thousands of rares into the forge; on that scale luck evens out and the recipes are consistently profitable.
How can you say that MF is a reliable way of getting a precursor? You can throw in 4 rares and get one, or you can throw 1m of exotics and get nothing.
Large sample size just means it will pop-up eventually not reliably.
Chance to get it is just that: a chance, it’s not guaranteed. The chance of throwing in a million worth of exotics and not getting a precursor is so astronomically small it isn’t even worth considering.
So yes, it is a reliable way to get it should you have the capital to invest (which is in the thousands of gold).
Considering that the tries are not statistically linked, meaning one try doesn’t affect your next try, I would say that after 1m tries you still have the same odds to get a precursor as in your first try.
Oh and if I have thousands (plural) of gold to throw for a precursor, why not just buy it from TP?
