If I noticed they were permanent, I might’ve grabbed one. Think I only logged on for a moment, glanced by it, and shrugged it off. Doh.
If you’re referring to the BL skins, then they’re not a limited-time item. They’re also much easier to stockpile by both casual and hardcore players. Either group can buy 75 keys, and get enough scrap for two+ skins (at the time), and all in a matter of minutes. Compare that to a skin with a <1% drop-rate (i.e., possibly days to farm 1), that’s only available for 2 weeks, and can no longer be obtained afterwards.
The BL skins, however, should retain their potential long-term value — as long as it appeals to certain people’s tastes. It’ll just take a while longer due to the sale.
I’m curious to see how the JC market transforms when the ores are finally needed — especially with players stockpiling for months.
For long-term investments, limited-time items (e.g., skins) would probably be the safest gamble, but nothing that may reoccur (e.g., seasonal). Anything craft-related is extremely volatile, and can easily change in any patch. It can change for better or worse, of course, but that’s not quite “safe”. ;P
Safest bet is just to buy what you think will increase in price, and sell when you think it peaks.
For example, you could’ve spent 100g on Toxic Spores not too long ago (1s), and they’d be worth 500g+ now (5s+), or spent 100g on Desert Rose skins (2g-ish) some time ago, and they’d be worth 1500g now (30g-ish).
The what, how, why, etc. questions are… probably best for you to discover.
It’s quite annoying.
Eventually, it will also break you. As its destruction continues, and its power flows through your inventory, your tolerance threshold will slowly diminish, until it inevitably also destroys you. It’s the only proper course it knows, and will continue it until its task is completed.
It’s really quite remarkable!
The best they can do there is help stack Might , Daggerstorm and then harass the back-line.
Maybe if you’re a melee thief. A mostly ‘zerker P/P thief is devastating in massive (T1) fights, and can easily down targets (6-10k unload spam), while being extremely difficult to touch. It’s one of the reasons I’ve stuck with it for so long — it’s very versatile in any situation.
The melee/heavy-stealth thieves are… less useful IMO. The main-hand SB thieves are just confused. ;P
It’s a convenience-item (ish), much like the unlimited tools/salvage-kit. I have the 250 slot guild upgrade also, but it’s much more convenient storing 3 extra stacks in your collections instead.
As P/P (no stealth), I find Throw Gunk a lot more useful than Ice Shard. :-)
For PvE, even with Richochet, Warrior will probably easily out-damage you — especially against multiple targets. P/P is still mainly single-target, and being ranged, it intentionally does less damage than melee.
For WvW, however, P/P can down targets much faster, and much more easily than Warrior. That is, when the warrior isn’t against opponents that just stand in one spot (or remain stun-locked) until they die. ;P
For WvW, I still prefer Bountiful Theft over Ricochet. P/P is mainly single-target, and boon-stealing w/ vigor is much more effective on a long-term basis (IMO, of course).
For your build, I would recommend trying -10 from DA, and +10 into Trickery for Sleight of Hand. An instant-interrupt Steal on a 21~ second recharge is very valuable in any situation (whether PvE or WvW).
Yes you can use it to run away, but a good thief would save SS for when he needed it
Outside of an escape/gap-closer, it’s extremely helpful with landing on a door-portal (WvW). If you’re not running stealth utilities, you’re quite limited in getting through 40+ — especially when 1/3 of them are spamming CCs.
I’m also P/P, and it’s very effective for most situations in WvW — whether 1v1, 5v5, or 50v50.
10(Mug)/30/0/0/30(Sleight), Valk Armor & rest Berserker, Withdraw/Roll/Shadow Step/SoS/Basilisk (Lyssa runes).
Basilisk w/ Lyssa counters condition-spam (and sets-up for opening burst), and Withdraw/Roll/Step counters melee gap-closers (or offensively, more ini or my own gap-closers). Most professions cannot soak-up the unload-spam, and if they can (for a little while), they’re blowing their CDs just to survive.
I run a full berseker build with 25/30/0/15/0
I’m always tempted to go further into DA, but cannot imagine losing 30 in Trickery.
Bountiful Theft + Sleight alone, for example, provides a direct counter to Dagger Storm (strips stability, and then interrupts). That’s so fun to lose! :-)
In fact this build benefits from the Dec update
P/P has been buffed nicely in some of the last updates (e.g., Roll, Body Shot, and at some point, Ricochet).
Unfortunately, damage and survivability (health, mobility, utility, etc.) must be interchangeably sacrificed/balanced to reach one’s own “happy place”. If you adopt what another suggests, then you’ll have a poorer understanding of why X was chosen over Y, and how they’re all tied-together for a particular play-style.
Condition or Power/Crit? Glass, Bunker, or “Balanced”? Weapon-sets? Runes, Sigils, Traits, and Consumables all “play differently” on any of those questions. With enough experimenting, you might find something that’s “perfect” for you.
If you want ranged, P/P with Ricochet & Sigil of Fire can aoe-tag fairly well, and still offers sustainable burst for single-target. It might be easier to tag with shortbow (with auto-attack), but it’s also slow, and if using cluster-bombs, also unreliable. I would only recommend it if you want an easy option for getting kill-credits.
I off-hand SB myself for utility, and it’s extremely useful in that aspect, but would never expect it to outperform P/P under most circumstances.
The regen-buff vs. opportunist-nerf hasn’t been very noticeable for me (P/P crit-build), so I can’t say one way or another. The regen-buff itself, however, has been pleasantly accepted. :-)
1200 Range Trait
I would love that for pistols. :-)
Lol @ me complaining … I just made a statement and people get mad and upset now.
Your original post appears mixed with attitude and/or complaints. You can make a statement (or ask a question) without such.
merely acts as a knockdown instead of a pull, moving them by maybe an inch at most
From the few times I’ve used it, it seems like that happens when you don’t have a (reliable) line-of-sight with the target. For example, if you try pulling someone off a cliff/ledge/etc., if they’re not on the very edge, then they’ll get “pulled” into the terrain instead, and it’ll only look like a knock-down.
Unfortunately, the sensitive nature of the skill probably causes other unrelated issues to be compounded into one. Targets aren’t always in the location you see on your client, for example, and the server (presumably) will then process the skill differently than you’d expect. Collision and/or collision-detection also seems to fail for certain scenarios (for whatever reason(s)…), so that can also result in a failed skill.
You should wait at least 11 days anyways for prices to stabilize, and buy them all on TP (after selling all the ones you’ve made). Damask has already dropped almost 50% in a few days.
What is crafting like in GW2?
It’s probably best to learn for yourself. What one thinks is a chore, or a time-sink, for example, could be quite the opposite for another.
I enjoyed leveling and keeping my crafts on-par during the process when I first started on release, but I do things much differently now, and enjoy them less as such. Ignorance is bless, they say. ;P
Yeah, I killed a Tengu by accident because of the perplexity runes. He was grabbing a snowball, the he took a hit and died a moment after. And he does not respawn, as it seems.
In the face of such tragedy, I can’t help but grin! :-)
Guardian can still out-run someone if they have swiftness? ;P
@Ereb
Doh, forgot about using a signet for precision. ;P
Can you kindly go here and recreate the build? Thank you.
Hmm? If you wanted 100% crit-chance on Berserker:
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?fYAQJAqKkI2e0TAAAvHkFAAA-jgBBYfBkIAIzsIasVRFRjVXDT5iIqWKgRFGB-e
76% base + 20% (fury) + 5% (keen) passive already goes over 100%. You can add more with on-kill sigil, or if P/P, Combo Critical easily gives another 5%. With full exotic, it’d still probably be very possible.
For my Valk, my base is 63% with cheap consumables, and fury + keen would put it at 88%, and if I wanted, combo-critical would put it over 90%. 5% crit-chance sigil is used, however, and other sacrifices have been made for survivability.
Didn’t you hear…? Those are the new skills for Warrior. ;P
@killah
Are you a GS/Hammer Warrior? If so, then that’s a setup I never see in WvW… ;P It’s always fun to P/P them with a crit-build and hit Endure Pain x2 back-to-back. Afterwards, they could be called swiss-cheese warriors!
For me: Lyssa Runes w/ Withdraw (Heal) and Basilisk (Elite).
@Sir
With traits (inc. access to Fury), consumables, and so forth, Valk w/ the rest Berserker already gives me roughly 90% crit-chance (with exotic). I don’t see why full Berserker wouldn’t hit (roughly) 100%.
Thief skill…. not so much. ;P
Meanwhile the average player in need of quartz, especially those who have no personal node, are back out in the cold.
Hmm? The price of Quartz has dropped significantly, and you can still get Charged Quartz from the gift-boxes (albeit a much lower chance). How does that not benefit you?
making time-gated stuff TPable negates any time-gating effect in the long run. in the short run, all it will do is prevent everyone and their grandmother from having the ascended armor they can afford for a short length of time.
That’s the point. If you want it now, it’ll (usually) cost you more. If you want it now for multiple characters, it’ll cost even more. Likewise, if you choose to craft it (daily), it’ll take longer, or for multiple characters, take even longer.
I don’t see a problem. If I were wanting Ascended for more than one character, I naturally assume it’ll either cost more, take longer, or both.
imo one of the best items you can get from the bltc and totally worth it’s money.
Indeed. I’m somewhat glad they “fixed” it, as well, because it just cluttered bags with dirt-cheap runes & sigils.
Maybe it should turn the enemy into a Basilisk.
I’ve come across quite a few Mesmers that would enjoy the courtesy returned.
You won’t be able to tank damage. You can, instead, build around a combination of dodges, evades, blinds, and stealths, and by doing so also maintain your “glassiness”. This might be difficult at earlier levels (no access to certain traits and/or utilities), but if built for it, you can easily solo-tank&dps silvers/champs.
If you’re “glassy”, then you’ll need fight-time mobility and/or utility — not just something to escape. With an unreliable heal (more-so heals), an unreliable stealth, venom-centric traits, and no mobility (outside of an escape), you’ll have a difficult fight against any competent opponent.
Don’t reroll another toon… don’t buy gems and gem store stuff, and stand united against the ignorance of the devs.
Hmm? I’ve only seen “buffs” for my P/P in the last several months. No complaints here. The BP/HS thieves might have complaints now, however, but ANet was only sending the trolls back under their bridge. :-)
If I get hit by Killshot (as PP thief), it’ll usually 1-shot me from full health. It happens very rarely, but when it does, I can only blame myself. For the costs & risks of using it, I think it’s fairly well balanced.
There was also the SoR Ele (Bronze Colonel in [XPK]) that kept “bugging” into that tower multiple times before that. No biggie, really, but it reflects poorly on a server and/or its guild(s).
Yep, It was me.
I was using FGS to damage the gate as fast as possible but I ’’bugging’’ inside tower. And I immediately jump out after that, I neither try to kill BG nor siege inside that tower.
Now i tell my side of story, Can you provide your proof pls ?
Edit #1 wait wut, That happen before or after T3 Sunnyhill fight ?
The last time I saw you do it was right before the gate went down (T3 Sunny), but you weren’t the reason it flipped so easily, and it wasn’t what Mez was referring to. I think some time afterwards, it flipped again very quickly, and (supposedly) without any siege. I don’t really know what happened there.
Nonetheless, thanks for replying. You definitely didn’t cause any harm from what I saw, but you might want to bail from the tower faster in the future. ;P

P/P is very effective for massive (T1) fights. With Withdraw/Roll/Shadowstep, you can’t easily be focused, and being mostly berserker (with range), can instead easily down anyone you target.
I would not recommend SB — it’s very slow, and blast-finishers are very ineffective for fast-paced fights (which most are).
I also wouldn’t recommend being too close to the main “zerg”, because that will be the focal point of the enemy. It’s much more effective circling the outskirts of the enemy, and downing (not finishing) target after target (good rallies for allies). With mobility and range, it accomplishes what the bulk of your forces cannot (when stacked).
If you’re a melee thief…. tread extra carefully?
Perhaps they meant the tool-tips are now updated (for those skills)? It’s a shame to have to guess/test if traits even function — almost impossible for some — but at least those tool-tips help some. :-)
I’ll still be playing mine. Hopefully the ini-regen vs. opportunist isn’t too hurtful, but I’m sure something can be “worked out”.
I don’t know what the other thread had, but I’ve definitely seen Mesmers/Rangers “bug” through gates/walls. They were server-mates, so this isn’t “rage” or an “accusation”, but simply a fact.
i guess i am looking to be able to do more 1vx as thief which i used too with other weapon sets which cannot be done with p/p
I’d rather be able to drop 5+ targets in a short period of time in a 50v50 with P/P, instead of spending most of my time in stealth trying to win 1vX in the middle of nowhere. The usefulness of those setups are just too limited. I do look forward to see how well the BP→HS thieves manage after the balance changes.
In my opinion it won’t do a thing
It would. Right now, P/P can spam Headshot, Steal (Daze), Scorpion Wire, and probably a few other things to very frequently interrupt every non-instant ability. If it’s changed to a 30sec ICD, then that wouldn’t be the case.
P/D (heavy stealth/condition) using Caltrops (Dodge + Utility) was very powerful in PvE when I played it a long time ago. Not sure if anything has changed for it, but it was easy to solo champions, and 25 stacks of bleed (aoe) does a lot of damage — especially for requiring almost no effort.
I actually switched back to that for the Liandri fight. Failed horribly with P/P (mostly berserker), but killed her within 2-3 tries with P/D.
explain me how you counter hgh engineer or necromaner or signet warrior or pu mesmer
10(Mug), 30, 0, 0, 30 (Sleight); Valkyrie armor, rest Berserker; Withdraw, Roll, Shadowstep, SoS, Basilisk (Lyssa).
With that setup (in WvW), you shouldn’t have any problems overcoming any profession. If you engage without the majority of your cool-downs, then it’ll be a rough start, but you can still usually recover and be successful. If you’re outnumbered, however, then you will have difficulties. :-)
@Dak
I run almost an identical trait-line for P/P, and also with full Valk armor and rest Berserker. It’s extremely effective in WvW in every type of encounter.
if someone is repeatedly getting bloodlust stomped
I think you’d have higher chances for that outside of the BL JP — especially when enemies can easily suicide off (the plentiful) cliffs to avoid it.
or your stopping more people than yourself from getting through the puzzle
… and to what avail? These JPs have either PvE’ers or griefers, and neither serve a meaningful purpose — especially since siege is cheap on TP now.
