ANet’s game, ANet’s rules. They say it’s bad, it’s bad.
And in cases of international objection to it, it’s normally the most restrictive sets the guideline.
RIP City of Heroes
The performance gap between those two is HUGE, like the 960 is nearly twice as fast as the 750Ti. The selling point for the 750Ti is the lack of an external power connector and for people with older sub par PSUs who don’t want to also upgrade that, they will pay for the convenience.
The AMD R9 270X, a rebadged and overclocked HD 7870, is priced about the same as the GTX 750Ti. But if you don’t want to go Red (AMD), Green (nVidia) really hasn’t left you with much of an option in that price range. Sorry.
RIP City of Heroes
Remember it’s a 3rd party app and ANet has no reason to guarantee that is still works.

At least it’s misspelled consistently.

Hello there, I need a little help with a few things that are still somewhat unclear to me….This is a bit long but please bear with me
1. Well it depends how new you are. 20g is pretty good for a brand new player with only a level 40-50 character. Minor things like harvest all material nodes, sell on the TP but not necessarily to highest bidder as it depends. Salvage white, blue, green items for luck. Sell off mats once you’ve capped out collections. Plan to do boss events, use one of the boss timers to see if any are up soon in your level range or below when you’re playing. On the flip side try to save you money by not using waypoints all the time, it does add up.
2. It’s like playing capture the flag … with siege weapons and zerging players. Now this is the only time now when your server selection is important. If your server isn’t into WvW, it’s not going to be all that fun. On a populated WvW map, you should see in your map objectives held by other servers and on your mini-map you should see crowds of green dots streaming toward an objective. Or party up with a couple of players and take out soft targets like opponents caravans and supply depots.
3. Yep. Dungeons are a PitA because it’s one of the few activities that require a team. And by large part finding teammates for dungeons is terrible. This is where being a member of a good guild can come in useful. They have no problem, at least mine, dragging someone who aren’t a zerk out warrior who can run every dungeon path with their eyes close. They may even let you watch the cut scenes.
As for the reason for 80s, your #1 question. Dungeons were at one time the quickest way to earn gold. It’s been nerfed a great deal but it’s still a sure thing except you need to do all the various paths in each dungeon instead of simply rerunning one path in one dungeon for hours on end. So speed is of utmost importance which means best gear, best traits, full stats even though those stats get down leveled.
4. Yes there are ways to get free transmutation charges. Easiest are map completions and PvP IIRC. At least that’s what the wiki says. Also there is a login reward, 4 times in the 28 login reward cycle that may give you a transmutation charge. It is not unheard of for players to roll a temp character who only does the map complete in the 6 major cities to earn charges and once done, delete it and roll a new one and repeat the process. There limited availability for no cost is why some players suggest you shouldn’t try to transmute until you get a level 80 set of exotic armor. But if you like to change your looks all the time, then 600 gems for 25 charges.
5. A good guild is someplace where you can ask for help to do a dungeon and can provide bonuses like magic find. I think you can join 5 guilds at a time but you can only represent one at a time. Representing means that guild gets credit when you do certain activities.
6. GW2 is a different kind of MMO, more relient on movement and avoidance as well as a lack of hyper-specialized classes. Professions here are more rounded than the classic Tank/Healer/Damage Dealer trinity you find in a lot of MMOs. Everyone has melee and range attacks, have some degree of control, healing of course, some party buff. But each profession do specialize a bit. All I can suggest is to spend the time reading though the wiki about each profession and their skills.
Of course there are misconceptions that certain classes are better or are more useful in WvW or Dungeons or Fractals. A lot of that is simple minded, cookie cutter bunk. Most of those that believe that also believe there is only one way to equip a character in terms of armor, weapons, traits, skills and any deviation well get you kicked. You really don’t want to be one of THOSE players.
Also don’t forget that this MMO you really don’t need to party with other players with the exception of dungeons and fractals. The rest of the time you can solo and simply join the sword wielding flash mob when a nearby event pops up. As long as you do some some bit of damage you will get full loot and XP.
Hopes this helps somewhat.

Problem with most Public Test Servers is that players rather explore the new content, choose to gossip about that and will put up with the bugs rather than constructively report them.
RIP City of Heroes
Traits aren’t going to be there. This is a new server code test. Nobody will see traits until they first tell us about traits, in broad nearly uninformative strokes.
RIP City of Heroes
Standard TP issue. Few players do the content range where they drop yet there is still high demand for crafting a legendary. Thus the price.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m sorry…but the the running animation on a human warrior (Don’t know about others) with duel swords looks so dumb. PLEASE change it. I feel like my toons gonna stab himself when he runs with duel swords out. Make toons hold swords out to the side like they are ready to slash. Anything that doesn’t make them like they are gonna face plant into their own swords.
Better?

Are the shadow dyes a limited time shop item?
Since the other specialized dye packs were, I would say yes. Now it’s unlikely to just vanish without notice, their will likely be a week long count down on them when they are on their way out.
But they will be back someday in the future as the rest of the packs have returned at one time or other.
RIP City of Heroes
Simply, in the big scheme of things in terms of prioritized bug fixes and content additions include an expansion, it’s just not a high enough priority to assume their limited manpower to fix it.
RIP City of Heroes
Not sure why the question now, we are sort of killing time right now. Regular holiday events can last several weeks but it depends on what is scheduled to come next. If they have nothing in the pipeline, these events can continue for some time. You can check the wiki, it may have dates for Halloween and Wintersday for each of the last 3 years.
Now Gem Shop sales can be as short as a day.
RIP City of Heroes
1) There are psuedo Random Number Generators that have been vetted by mathematicians that surpass multiple tests for randomness. These include even distribution, coverage as well as sequences.
2) Humans are hard wired to see patterns, even if they don’t exist. That’s one reason probability and statistics are seem so counter-intuitive. It’s also why we see faces on Mars and religious iconography in the most unusual places. But in the end, you have to do the analysis to see if a pattern holds or if it’s just coincidence.
RIP City of Heroes
First of all, there are plenty great PRNG out there. Sadly not in most compiler’s standard library but they are easily available.
Now the problem seems to me is a lot of players seem to misunderstand the concept of rare as well as no grasp of probability and statistics (not that they should unless they are in a science or engineering major in college). Tenths of a percent may be too high for something like a precursor. From an aggregate standpoint, it’s working. For any particular individual, forget about it. That’s why there’s a TP to sell unwanted precursors.
RIP City of Heroes
Scamming implies you didn’t know what you were getting. You do know but you don’t like it. Lets read in in game description.
“This key will unlock one Black Lion Chest containing random Gem Store merchandise, including some rare items not sold separately.”
So how did they scam you exactly?
RIP City of Heroes
My point is Mac is a bigger platform and it’s still “beta” using Cider. So would you think they would do a Linux version if they have yet do a proper native Mac version?
RIP City of Heroes
I understand their point. A little decorum to your request.
You never answered anyone’s question about whether you submitted a ticket. Or provide to any of us the info requested to see of any of us players could be of assistance. You simple came in with both barrels blazing and your only response is a complaint that they changed your title.

It’s the forum bug. She got this.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes, but they aren’t saying it’s 100g. If nobody liked them they would be less expensive. Look at the Crimson Lion, Winterday or Mordrem skins, they are all cheaper than the Shadow skins.
There are two sides that drive price and ANet only sort of controls one because if nobody likes them, then few will cash in their tickets to buy one to sell later.
RIP City of Heroes
Got 3 packs and got nothing. Guess to the “no more buying gems with real money” now I will add the “no more buying ANY RNG” from now on.
Well you have a 21.6 percent chance getting no Shadow dyes with 3.
RIP City of Heroes
The choice is monthly subscriptions or an endless stream of attractive items in your cash shop. It’s far easier to offer blind-boxes with the occasional really good thing inside.

Well once upon a time keys were like scratch lottery tickets. Every once in a while, dropping a 5 spot is fun and who knows, you may make back that $5. But if you want one of those skins, it’s far cheaper, unless you are lucky, to buy gold with your cash bought gems to buy that skin you want. At they moment all of them are under 110 gold or under 1040 gems which is $13. 1040 gems will buy you 11 keys. That’s 75.7-80.1% chance of not getting 1 or more whole tickets and an infinitesimal chance of 10 ticket scrapes.
So sure thing Vs 1 in 4 or 5 chance? Choose wisely.
PS: And yes a player shouldn’t have to data mine and take a prob and stat class to know what’s the better choice here ANet.
RIP City of Heroes
But if you are going for Abyss you only have a 1/25 chance. Even if you buy a 25 pack for 2500 gems, there is a 36% of not getting it. A 5 pack is an 81.5% chance of not getting it.
RIP City of Heroes
Unlike some MMOs, GW2 uses colors other than shades of gray and brown.
RIP City of Heroes
Actually that’s average. There’s a 40% chance for a shadow dye. But Abyss is the money maker.
RIP City of Heroes
Unless you want a collection of Gem Shop samples, which is what the chests are sold as, don’t buy keys. It’s like buying boxes of Whitman Samplers because on the box says there’s a chance to win a car. You are not going to get a car buying box upon box of chocolates.
800 Gems will get you 7 keys. First, with only 7 keys there is no way you can get 10 scraps for a ticket. So that’s out. And with the odds of a full ticket down in the 2-2.5% range, the chance for one or more tickets from 7 keys is 13.2-16.2%, less than rolling a 6-sided die and getting 1.
There is a reason why weapon skins from tickets go for as much as they do on the TP. They are in demand and the supply is limited to players willing to spend a great deal of money and hope they are lucky.
Sorry you had to learn about this lesson the hard way. Currently 100g is 940 gems, or about 8.5g per $1 but it’s always fluctuating. That 800 gems you bought would be worth a bit more than 85g.

Not to be a Debby downer but it’s not a problem for the VAST majority of players. Have you even tried working with CS about this or did you simply declared your system is perfectly normal and absolutely not a problem at your end so it’s their product. Just saying as I’ve never had a problem with installing … ever.
Edit: Ah, looking at your post history you’ve already discounted any help from working the CS channel. Oh well.

And Linux stole for Unix/BSD. At least from the conceptual standpoint.

But Zoplpse was looking at the i5-4460 and NOT either of the K less variants of the i5-4670 or 4690. Those are $15 apart from the K and $35 more than i5-4460.
RIP City of Heroes
Is there a native client for Mac? No. Then don’t hold your breath for Linux and follow the Mac example and use Wine or one of the PC game specific forks.
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve decided on some parts,
CPU: i5 4460
Motherboard: Asrock H97M Pro4
GPU: Sapphire Vapor-X R9 270X 2GB
Power Supply: Corsair CX600M 600WAny opinions on these?
On more than on occasion I’ve seen mention of Nvidia being a better choice over AMD for GW2. Whether that’s based on some fact or personal preference I can’t say. Either way I’d try and read up on it a bit.
Also the price difference on the K CPU shouldn’t be prohibitive should you want to OC down the line.
I would also highly recommend an SSD as others have.
But $50, the difference between the 4460 and either i5-4xxxK CPU at NewEgg isn’t insignificant either if your budget isn’t large. It’s the slippery slope of “but for X more you’ll get …”. If you aren’t OCing at all the difference in performance is 9% for a part that costs 26% more.
The nVidia alternative closest to the 2GB R9 270X is a 2GB GTX 960. It’s only 10% faster and at NewEgg does cost $25 more, at least. It is a little more power efficient, nVidia has made great strides in the recent years in terms of power management. More power means more heat, more heat means more cooling, more cooling means louder rig. But Red Vs Green is still as big of a religious war as Red Vs Blue. If you are only budgeting under $200 for a video card, there isn’t anything wrong with the R9 270X.

11.8% chance.
2 sigma range (~95%) with 15 packs is 3-9.

You’ve never seen Holy Grail? It’s been made into a musical for crying out loud. Sure that scene isn’t in it but it’s THE classic, most quotable Monty Python movie ever.
“It’s only a model” “They call me Tim” “African or European?” “I’m not dead yet” “Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three” “Huge … tracts of land” “She turned me into a newt” “They ate Robin’s minstrels”
Where have you been man?

There are no AMD equivalents when it comes to individual core performance. The Bulldozer architecture sacrificed fast cores for many cores, which is fine as long as the application you are using can use many cores. It’s when an app only needs a few cores that AMD loses badly to Intel. In games that performance is mainly about GPU performance, it isn’t as much of a problem but with this game, Intel is the better, but more expensive, choice.
Here’s my back of the envelope choices for the major parts for a general gaming system.
CPU – i5-4690K
3rd party CPU cooler – Hyper 212 EVO is good and cheap.
Video Card – GTX 970, overkill here but assuming you play other games.
Asus Z97 motherboard – they have a plethora of options.
8GB of DDR3-1866 Cas 9 memory. Not too pricey, not too exotic.
650 watt high end power supply from Seasonic, Antec or Corsair (personal favorites)
Case, drives (I do recommend a 250GB SSD if you have the budget on top of a normal drive) I leave up to you. You know your storage needs and case aesthetics.

Bugs are triage like victims from a mass casualty incident. Those in the worse shape but savable go first. So system crashes.
Also those who can be treated quickly are the next to get patched up. If the problem is clear and the reason is obvious, those get fixed.
What you have left are the cases that will take time to investigate or require an expert who is busy fixing other problems within their wheelhouse.
RIP City of Heroes
Some fixes take longer than others and the audio track jumping on your character may be annoying but it’s currently not crashing anything. Heck I had the jokes from the Costume Brawl going off when I was by myself in the woods.

The tool tip when you hover above the option tells you what it does. If you don’t think the added “pretty” is worth the loss in framerate or if you think that it’s not “pretty” at all, by all means turn it off.
Technically it’s a series of filters that are used to modify the already rendered image before it’s displayed. The FXAA is also a post processing filter, just called out separately as is depth of field.

WOOHOO! Yet another someone who thinks recoding the game engine is a trivial thing. 64-bit is a lot more doable as long as the 3rd party libraries they are using have 64-bit versions as well. But unless you are also selling your game engine to third parties or have an enormous war chest like Blizzard, there is very little motivation to spend the time and money to do it.
