I would also love for Anet to join us in the wonderful year of 2015 and update their game to run an API that is not over a decade old.

People in this thread who are pretending like implementing a Dx12 version of the game would mean that the devs would have to redesign the game engine from scratch are insane.

World of Warcraft has a Dx11 and Dx9 mode and the Dx11 mode runs MUCH better, up to 50% improvement in frame rate, and the devs didn’t have to stop remake their engine and the Dx9 client didn’t have to be scrapped and thrown away.

But hey, you guys can believe what ever nonsense you like.

Nobody is saying the entire engine needs to be scraped or that we would lose Dx9 support. But adding Dx11 or 12 support is not trivial either. And stop using the multi-billion dollars in cumulative income WoW as an example how easy it was. You have no idea how many developers they hired to add Dx11 support or exactly how long it took to develop it. The point being they had more than enough money to through a ton of people to exclusively work on it. Actual programmers. Not artists or map designers or script writers. Actual programmers.

Except most dungeon LFG require strict meta to participate. Even if they say they don’t.

It only takes a few pay and then be kicked to sour players on the whole selling of paths.

Not even close to being true. but this off topic for this thread.

In every case I’ve tried it was including teams I tried to form and then been kicked by those who joined even though I listed no meta required. I find selling of paths to be an offshoot of this. Otherwise if the forming of PUGs weren’t so hostile why would there be a viable business in selling assistance?

And it’s not off topic if players who sell paths are hitting the cap. My point is the devs may see this cap for RMT affecting path sellers and TP tax avoiders as a happy coincidence sad unfortunate side effect.

The game has FXAA by default. They use SweetFX to allow other AA modes since FXAA is a post process filter that has the problem with blurring textures not on true edges. Now SweetFX may allow you to tweak their FXAA parameters to find a better compromise.

Sorry, if this cap ends up hurting those who avoid the TP taxes or those who sell paths and jump puzzles, all the better IMO. Selling paths and portals would be like the Boy Scouts charging little old ladies to cross the street.

This is a very friendly co-op PvE game and between meta teams and player merchs, it’s difficult to get a team together outside of a guild to do a dungeon without the black mail of pay or be kicked when the party is almost finished. Bet you didn’t like the change to the kick rules either.

Here’s a question. How many people, when thinking about buying a game, will choose not to simply because it doesn’t support Dx11/12? Sure, once they have a game they may desire Dx11/12 on the grounds they believe that will lead to better performance but whose to say that’s the limiting factor here.

We’ve been in crowds of NPCs without the slowdown we get with crowds of players. That should indicate the fault isn’t in the rendering but the additional code dealing with players.

Doesn’t matter if Source 2 is free, ANet isn’t going to abandon their engine and move everything over to it. The work involved to do so certainly isn’t “free”. Plus while the engine is free for development, games developed with it must be tied to Steam.

OpenGL support in Source has been around for some time.

Titanfall is Steam. DOTA 2 is Steam. Not just old games or Valve games.

Also note that it’s not being back ported to the original Source engine, only the new Source 2 one.

Guild Wars 2 uses ANet’s own engine. An engine that uses a single threaded Dx9 rendering design. An engine based on the original Guild Wars engine. Adding additional rendering pipelines to support Dx11, Dx12, Mantle and Vulkan efficiently will require rewrites. Adding multithreaded renderer support requires a rewrite. If you want the advantages that these modern APIs provide, you will need a rewrite.

We aren’t talking about scripts in a game engine or adding in additional assets or writing a mod for an existing game but the under the hood, hidden from the content developer code that makes the game go. You have trivialized the work required like some middle manager or marketing lead with no coding experience.

How do you use the mystic forge?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

It’s not extremely rare. It’s a 20% chance you will get an item one quality level higher. Overall, the average is 16 lesser in, 1 higher out. The thing is that there are very, very few items that one quality value higher is 16x, realistically 18.9x with TP tax, higher than the value you put in.

Actually Donari lists pretty much the one thing that is worth more, converting masterwork, green, runes into rare, yellow, ones. But the profit is minuscule and you need to be very selective about buying green masterwork runes, only those at the minimum purchase price.

There are items you can craft from the forge and you can promote lower tier mats to higher ones, although at the moment a great deal of profit has been squeezed out of that market.

The wiki is your friend.

P.S: Writing anything graphical under linux is pure hell, because of the drivers mess there is. These guys did it in 4 months.

P.S.S: And good guy Valve will release the whole thing as open source, once Vulkan launches. And I highly doubt Mantle/Dx will be that much different to write against. Valve did the heavy lifting that y’all have been afraid of.

P.S.S: Now that I think about it, praise Gaben really has his aim at Microsoft Windows and proprietary walled gardens :O

Valve.

The owners of Steam.

The creators of the cross platform Source Engine that they sell to 3rd parties. An engine already supports an OpenGL pipeline.

The company that Gabe Newell owns that made him a billionaire.

The company isn’t exactly paupers and since they sell their engine it’s important to keep up with their competitors in the game engine market.

Versus

ArenaNet, a company with less than 600 million in sales in it’s lifetime. Who doesn’t sell their home grown engine to anybody.

Nice attempt to equate the two companies there mate.

You don’t want to spend money yet you don’t have a lot of time to play to earn gold at a more normal rate. Yea, you’re basically screwed by your lack of willingness to do either.

What the hell are you talking about, “lack of willigness”? I laid out what my time frame is, and I asked for options, not judgment.

It’s not a judgement, I’m simply being honest about how the reward system is set up for the Gem Shop. You either have the cash to buy gems directly or the in game gold to buy gems via the exchange. Of course to get a reasonable amount of gold you have to put in the time.

Unfortunately there just isn’t a path for those with both limited playing time and limited cash when it comes to gems. There is no Destiny loot cave. No short cut to riches if you aren’t already rich.

Right now it’s 140-145g for 1000 gems via the exchange. This link shows you the fluctuations in the exchange rate every 30 minutes. You can see it’s currently hovering around 14g so if you see it less than what ever price it’s bouncing around, that might be a good time to buy 100 gems. Informed decision making is the key.

https://www.gw2tp.com/gems

As for rares while selling them are a sure thing, depending on the price it may be more profitable salvaging them with a master salvage kit. It’s probably what most of the people you are selling them to are doing, if you are selling to high bid. Assuming they are over level 68 you have can get Globs of Ectoplasm out of them as well as major sigils/runes from weapons/armor (if they have a “of” in their name).

So much coin is left on the table at the TP simply because players go for the quick sale. Put items up for sale yourself. Set the price above the high bid and below the low sell price. Split the difference. Knock 1% off the sell price. Ask for 20% above the high bid. Throw darts. Doesn’t matter the method. If the items have a high velocity, lots of sales per day, it’ll sell likely within a week and for more than you would have gotten from the high bidder. You are in a race against time here to collect as much coin as possible, so be smart about getting the most out of buyers. Use the charts at GW2TP to get an idea of the trading range as a guide to pricing. You may be selling at a point way below average for the day, or way above what the actual going rate is.

https://www.gw2tp.com/search

On the flip side you may want to watch your spending. You can burn through half a gold if you are waypoint happy. Within a City waypoints are free but 1.5-3 silver per jump can add up if that’s how you are moving about.

So hop onto the boss train. They should drop a rare or two each. Do two a night. Maw and Fire Elemental are popular and are 1/2 an hour apart for instance and take only a 10 to 15 minutes each. So use a boss timer to see what’s available during the times you can play.

http://dulfy.net/2014/04/23/event-timer/

Learn where mats cluster on frequently visited maps and harvest them for sale. You may want to salvage all your blue and green drop items to raise your luck and sell off those mats.

There are a lot of little things you can do to earn more, but it takes a little bit of learning and knowing where the info can be found.

You don’t want to spend money yet you don’t have a lot of time to play to earn gold at a more normal rate. Yea, you’re basically screwed by your lack of willingness to do either.

All I can recommend then is the boss train, not selling to the highest bidder, understand the price of salvage mats and know when and when not to. Gather everything you are passing by and selling all your mats and unneeded loot, again not at the high bid price.

Also look into ways to convert alternate currency into coin.

It’s also good to understand when spikes in gem conversion rates occur and buy before then. Don’t wait to buy all the gems at one time. Buy frequently but be aware that the rate is worse with under 100 gem purchases. This way even if the gem rate increases, your overall cost is less.

Low FPS with AMD Radeon r9 270x Graphics Card

I only have AMD Radeon R9 200 series in ‘Display adapters’

That’s AMD not being helpful in identifying a specific model, unlike nVidia or Intel. But the 1280 shaders detected by GPU-Z confirms you have a R9 270 or 270X and the clockspeed leans to the 270X (besides you saying that’s what you have).

As others have said, it should be running at x16 over the PCIe bus. But I don’t see that as your problem here. Need to see your game’s graphic settings.

I have attached the current values/profitability of craftable runes, as of this post. The difference is shown as gold.silvercopper x.xxxx

Gee, the really expensive slightly profitable ones have watchwork sprockets as their costliest material. Now only if there is a way to get them without buying them off of the TP?

But in most cases it’s the various T5 stones that are the significant cost which drives the cost higher than the market will bear. A tiny loss while leveling your crafting is better than a huge loss.

Crimson Lion Dye Kits drop in BL chests

I’m idly curious as to whether those upset by a loss in profits are taking an actual net loss or just not making as much money as they expected. The former could well be upsetting, though I don’t think that upset should be aimed at ANet. The latter, well, even smaller profits can add up, right? It seems silly to me to be upset that you made 50 gold when you expected to make 150, for example. You still made gold!

Nah, this is about losses, not reduced profit. I can give you an example. The buy price (offer) for one of them was at the time I invested stable around 71g; the sell price is about the same, so it’s a 15% loss, now; 2 days ago when I started this post was 20g less. Looks like it’s recovering though; one can only hope.

I get the point of Behellagh, that these decisions are probably based on Gem sales expectations. On the other hand though, making sure people feel rewarded is a sure way to maintain a recurring player base, and that in the long run also drives a lot of Gem purchases. Maybe the number is people that enjoy the trading aspect of the game is not that large to influence the decisions on dye availability. I’m over it now, and I learned something. Let’s move on.

This is Beanie Babies all over again.

I’m quite sure ANet didn’t introduce these kits with the intent that players were going to buy them as investments rather than personal use. But since the dyes you get are RNG the dyes needed the ability to be sold on the TP, doubly so now that they unlock across the account. Players have taken that, along with ticket skins, minis, contracts and have tried to make it into a business. That’s what screws them in the end when they try to speculate with these items.

Again, in the case with Shadow Dyes, their inclusion in the chests don’t really affect supply in a big way since you can still buy them. And you know who’s going to win with the returning dyes like the Crimson Lion Dyes? Those who buy these off the TP now at significantly reduced prices and waiting for the panic to subside.

A low cap on people not on your friends list for a certain amount of time would probably be the strongest game-wide protection. Just a couple weeks would allow time to catch an active account being stolen and lock it down, but not cause too much delay for contests/giveaways.

The remaining issue would be buying items on the TP, and sending those instead. I don’t know how many people would be effected by having the same limit applied to sending items. It’s been a very long time since I’ve sent anything to someone that wasn’t on my friends list, so I don’t think it would effect me much at all.

These methods don’t actually prevent any legitimate activity, but they do inconvenience them. It’s extremely difficult to increase security without creating some sort of inconvenience for at least some people. In my opinion, when it comes to security measures that benefit the game and community as a whole, people need to just learn to deal with a minor inconvenience. It’s not like many real life security issues, where there are concerns such as privacy. It’s only a temporary inconvenience.

This right here.
Devs, can you please take a look at this suggestion and make it fit the security paradigm you need to stall goldsellers?

I’m going to put my cynical hat back on and postulate that while squeezing the RMT crowd was certainly one of the benefits of this policy, the implementation makes me believe it is not the only and possibly not even the primary reason for this change.

One factor in RMT is certainly the inverse relationship between account familiarity and account generosity. We may lend our guild mate, cousin or our good friend a large sum of gold but in most cases, that in game relationship will be established and on going.

I suspect it would be quite simple to gate transfers according to relationships based on a 10/30/90/180 day tier.

Also keep in mind that the purpose of gem store promotions is to drive the sale of new gems. A spike in gem store demand does three things:

1. It encourages new gem sales
2. It makes it less economical to convert gold to gems
3. It makes it more economical to convert gems to gold (which encourages gem sales)

I suspect that a significant number of people borrowed gold from friends to buy the black wings. This does a few things:

1. It most obviously reduces the motivation to buy new gems (which is why we get regular content and sales)
2. It severely distorts the gem to gold ratio (which is good for some players, bad for others, but overall, I think wild swings are not ideal)

By gating the ability of players to lend out money during gem store events, players who lack gems or significant gold reserves now also lack the ability to borrow gold in any significant quantity and will now have a much stronger incentive to buy gems with cash.

That’s a good thing overall for the long term health of the game, but it’s much harder to message that than it is to say “look! more security – for you!”.

What the heck does this have to do with gems or the gem shop? That part of your post seems totally out of place in this discussion.

This change only affects the amount of gold you can withdraw from Guild banks and pull from your mail. Someone can still send you 2000 gold, it’s just you can only pull 500 gold a week from that mail.

Crimson Lion Dye Kits drop in BL chests

They need to make this kind of moves to limit the profitability of speculation. If we could take some safety timeframe for granted, risk would be pretty much nonexistant.

Adding Shadow Dye Kits to BL chests while they’re still in the gem store, THAT’s the truly ridiculous thing.

Why? Chest have always been Gem Shop samplers. Dye kit is 125 gems for one. Keys are 125 gems for one. Drop rate for one of these dye kits is under 2% per chest. ANet certainly isn’t losing anything here.

Most of these dyes start losing value when they’re made available through BL chests (which are not directly related to the gemstore in many, probably most, cases).
On top of the direct decrease in value, it becomes much more common for sellers to find their listings buried under several other cheaper ones and to rely on buy orders, which is another profit cut.

With this change, they achieve nothing but make one of their gem products less interesting. I can’t imagine how ANet would benefit from that.

But ANet doesn’t care about TP value. All they care about is Gem Shop sales as keeping the Chests “fresh”.

I would like to request that crafting no longer give experience, because it directly skews the value of crafted items.

I would venture to say that Key farmers, and lazy levelers represent the majority of people crafting. and they are creating the whole Tradepost/crafting convolution (worthlessness of items) which is IMHO a detriment to the game.

People may not use the crafting system guides to level up their player level but they will still level up their crafting level with those guides. So the market will still be flooded by low level crafting goods making them a loss. The crafting disciplines like cook and jewelry, which currently don’t have a level 500 ascended may benefit somewhat but disciplines for ascended armor and weapons, those will still be powered through.

OP based his speculation on supply and demand.

He didn’t base his speculation based on anet undercutting him.

This was not cool. Don’t buy gemstore stuff, anet will just undercut you.

ANet undercutting him???? They simply now added it to the drop table for chests. You know the ones that cost 84-125 gems to open (unless you are still farming keys)? And it’s not like it’s a common drop from the chest. And it’s still the dye kit if I’m not mistaken so still a 19 in 25 chance of not getting one of the exclusive ones.

News hit, other speculators dumped or did you believe all that supply came from chests?

“So they’re panicking right now, they’re screaming “SELL! SELL!” to get out before the price keeps dropping. They’re panicking out there right now, I can feel it."

Yes, it’ll be temporary bunny ears and instead of running we will be crouched and hopping. I’m sure that’ll please those that complained about April Fools.

So now ballads can be written about the sepia tone time of airplane noises and stiff shoulders and those we lost to calliope music.

Crimson Lion Dye Kits drop in BL chests

Well the knee jerk reaction to the patch notes which looks to have caused a number of players to dump their stock hoping to catch the falling knife. Might be a good time to buy simply because we don’t know what the long term impact of getting them in BLTC is. True, any “regular” supply is worse than a DeBeers situation of dripping them onto the market from hoarded stock but when has ANet never return a means to obtain specialty dyes or tradeable minis?

This is a game, not a business. If you find something on the ground it is free. If you had to spend money on it to get it in the first place it is not free.

Your argument is invalid.

Two words: opportunity cost.

Three words. It’s a game.

And in what way does that invalidate what I said? Even within the context of the game world, there are better and worse ways to use gold. Given your apparent argument that “it’s a game” trumps the notion of opportunity cost, would you mind sending me the entirety of your gold? Sure it’s not the best use of your gold, but what the heck, it’s a game.

Okay, is it opportunity cost if you find it without seeking it? You are running through a zone and harvest/gather a node you are passing. I can understand the “cost” of play time if you are strip mining a map of all nodes but Point A to Point B discovery along the way? Whatever you picked up is bonus.

You forgot the “crucifix” posture this close to Easter. Seen that used as a source of offense.

I think the fact this was back to back with the guild bank/mail limitations have hit the “games are serious business” crowd a little hard. They’ve already squeezed all resemblance of play out of … play.

Reasons.

They are easily discovered and everyone leveling that crafting discipline craft them and dump them onto the TP and excessive supply makes them unprofitable.

Extracting them from various dropped armors provides a steady “free” supply which again causes and excessive supply.

The crafting mats are used in something way more popular and profitable making recovery of cost impossible due to mat costs.
