RIP City of Heroes
RIP City of Heroes
Well SWTOR started it’s life as a subscription based game. That has a certain expectation for income to pay for it’s AAA IP. Just that players weren’t interested in paying monthly for the privileged so it went to F2P/hybrid model in less than a year including merging of Asia-Pacific servers into the NA ones.
RIP City of Heroes
Sort of makes sense to pay for only soulbound tools, no reason for a player to exchange more than one set for account bound.
RIP City of Heroes
As long as the gem sales are steady there is no reason for NCSoft to worry.
City of Heroes would like to say “hello”.
Is NCSoft worried? No, they’ve killed lots of games before, what’s one more on the list? Should ANet be worried? Yes, very.
Hello.
At it’s peak, CoH had 194,000 and in the last reported quarter it had income under $3 million. GW2 income 3rd quarter is over $22 million and if it was a $15 a month subscription based game that would have been 490K paying users.
GW2 has a long way to drop before it gets into CoH, Tabula Rasa, Auto Assault, Dungeon Keeper income territory before the ax swings.
GW2 BTW is still NCSOFT’s 2nd biggest earner for the quarter behind Lineage.
RIP City of Heroes
That income stream is quite low for an MMO. Come March 2014 with 3 huge online RPG titles set to release; Arenanet better have a Hail Mary.
$22.1 million in sales (I used the average exchange rate for 3rd quarter Vs today’s rate) for a quarter would translate into 490,000 $15 a month subscriptions. And you think that’s low?
RIP City of Heroes
edit: looked at the report.
Where are you getting 22.9M for GW2 sales? the report says 24.5M for GW2.
This is a decrease from 28.9M from last quarter, implying the game is losing players, or at least players who spend money.
Converted to US dollars from KrW (average for the 3rd quarter, 1106 KrW per $1) which would place it at $22.1 million (you would get $22.9 million if you used today’s exchange rate).
RIP City of Heroes
There is no way to set a range you are willing to spend and let the TP do the buy if an item becomes available in your range for whatever price it was posted for.
RIP City of Heroes
But I’m not a bot, I’m a human being.
RIP City of Heroes
Undercutting isn’t a problem if you A ) price attractively to begin with and B ) don’t mind waiting.
If it’s a popular item it’s no big whoop if your’s isn’t bought first, especially if you are talking about a multi gold value item and the undercut is only a copper.

If you go to AMD’s site and go through the list of pull downs to get to the download page for the most recent for your setup, look on the right side of the page under “Helpful Links” and the last item there is “Previous Drivers and Software”. Click on that and it will list all the older packages for your setup.

Speculation ppl. 10k gold owning people, trolling the market basically. Weither they succeed to make gold or not, it’s their way of playin this game.
Just like ancient wood log is finally dropping again, this will drop too.
That’s right because there are so many players out there with 10K of gold that they decided to screw the rest of us over with their shenanigans. It’s those “evil” tp traders up to their no good again.
The question is why on the 7th suddenly Quartz became attractive, we has 250,000 supply at that point. Is there a recipe we don’t know about? Is their a rumor about needing charged quartz for winterday so get quartz now and start converting one a day so when the recipe drops you will be ready? Or is it just newbie TP traders being lemmings?
Supply seemed to have stabilized at 18K now. Even with the decrease, prices haven’t risen by that much relative to the size of the supply drop.
RIP City of Heroes
Sounds like the OP isn’t a builder but a buyer.
The Athlon X4 750K is an A8/A10-5xxx CPU with a bum GPU so it’s disabled so it allows a much higher turbo boost. General performance wise it’s similar to the A8-5600K or an i3-3225.
The HD 7770 is a passable GPU for a budget system but the 4GB of memory does sound like someone is looking to get rid of their surplus 2GB sticks.
Open world it should have more than passable FPS on high. Problem with cities, boss events and WvW still revolve around raw CPU power and not GPU as much. Those will still not be great regardless of graphic settings beyond the usual suspects (culling, shadows, reflections).
RIP City of Heroes
Price is up because the supply went from 225K to 19K in a week. Price really started moving once it got close to the demand line and now it’s supply is 1/5th of demand.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s a fishing email from bad people wanting your creds.
RIP City of Heroes
I noticed working again last week.
RIP City of Heroes
Cries of shills aside, yes the trash in the gemshop is overpriced. Since people are buying it anet has no reason to lower the prices.
If people are buying it, it must not be overpriced.
Someone, somewhere will always buy something for any price. The question is, if the prices were lower would they sell far more and make more money?
NCSoft has never understood the word Micro in Micropayments.
Which is why they hired Crystin Cox to run the Gem Shop from Nexon where cash shops are their bread and butter.

On closer examination of my human thief’s tight pants, her hips are now moving way to much. It’s like a high speed sashay now
RIP City of Heroes
(no one knows how the price fluctuation really works)
Actually we do and it’s been talked about to death. Now if anyone believes what John Smith said, that’s another story.
RIP City of Heroes
I would think that the demand for such an item would be so small that it’s not worth the effort to maintain the BLTC database and consistently release two types of the same tool.
Just treat it as a price increase, which Anet is totally willing to do and a lot of customers are willing to spend now.
I reason why I suggested the idea of a soulbound to account bound transmutation item at the Gem Shop. Allow players to choose.
RIP City of Heroes
Actually that description is wrong in many ways.
RIP City of Heroes
if you don’t want to see ppl crying (which is actually a rude way of saying that we express our opinion), don’t go to a forum and read the posts.
Did you not quit a while ago? Why do you keep coming back?
RIP City of Heroes
1) Can you use it? Is it better than what you have? Assuming either answer is no then salvage white, blues and greens for mats and luck (in the case of blues and greens) but if you are desperate for coin you can check the TP to see if anyone is paying a lot for them. Yellows may be worth more than the mats and rune it contains so selling or salvaging (with a master or mystic salvage kit) may be dependent on the price of Ectoplasm and the rune/sigil in them item.
2) Doesn’t hurt but it does take a while. Mine is near 70% now and I do notice an uptick in green Vs blue and yellow Vs green.
3) I’ve played for almost a year and I have no idea how aggro works here. There’s been times when I’ve faced the Wolfmaster champ in the Wayfarer Foothills when I was down and trying to heal beyond my range attack range and 3 other players are in melee with him and he is still throwing axes at me to bugger up my rally. She was a thief BTW.
4) Sorry, never played one yet.

6) A while back the devs upped the reward on champs since players weren’t bothering to take them out. But the reward ended up being to good and someone figured out that you could make a fair bit of coin going from champ to champ to champ and if the list is long enough then by the time you got to the end then the first would have spawned again. Side effect it was tough to find others to do group events that had shut down a waypoint or just others who would help out during a normal DE. Plus some on the champ train were a little rude if someone else jumped ahead and took out a champ out of sequence.
An update or two ago the devs dialed back the reward some, still better than from a long time ago but nowhere near as good as it once was. But it’s a still good way to get the champ monthly in a short period of time.
Enjoy the main game.

Sorry, I read all the threads in this board. This was either the first or second place where he bemoaned his plight, by the time I got to his third, I responded somewhat differently.
And it’s not like you haven’t cross posted your complaint about the new tools.
As for your suggestion, I doubt it unless you can drum up similar support for it as the numerous “please make it account bound” threads that cropped up since the very first infinite gathering pick ax showed up. I know you presented your reasons but so many will just tell you to take the few minutes and pass them through the bank. Park your alts at banks or crafting stations when you log off to speed up the process.
RIP City of Heroes
I find it odd, they don’t have a sale for the chop it all logging axe as well for one week… Now there is more reason to buy it then ever.
Why have a sale if just offering it will get a line out of your virtual door.
RIP City of Heroes
What about those of us that have already bought multiple sets for multiple characters – you would think buying 3 sets qualifies me for account bound.
… this game is just getting pointless.
Haven’t you heard?
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/where-do-i-sell-my-23-unlimited-gather-tools/3193057
Which has nothing to do with what I am asking for. I do not care about account bound and in fact find it intrusive and unhelpful not to mention expensive. I want to know if soulbound will still be available.
Was I addressing you? I know it’s your thread and there is nothing I can do to help with your suggestion but I can inform those moaning about the previous multiple purchases here that a refund program exists.
RIP City of Heroes
Wolfmaster fights sometimes result in players getting their characters limbs frozen after being attacked by the Wolfmaster with some sort of ice attack or mesmer attack or something. Net result is the person has to log out and back in to fix it.
To date none of the frozen poses were anywhere near as cool as what that vid displays.
You don’t need to log off but it’s not obvious what fixes the problem on my thief. Sometimes it’s an attack, sometimes a weapon swap, haven’t found a pattern but it might just be time. I’m usually restored after a few minutes.
RIP City of Heroes
After i buy 3 sets they make them account bound, but not the ones we’ve already bought – just the new ones.
That seems fair.
I’m just going to follow you around here so …

I haven’t noticed a difference but she’s wearing tight pants so … I … ah … what was I saying?
RIP City of Heroes
I’ll say it’s a far bet that by years end they will be back with an account bound status for 1000 gems each. The change is going to get number of players who were on the fence about the tools because they were soul bound to jump in and buy.
RIP City of Heroes
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve had my arms frozen in different positions before. Last time they were straight out in front of me turning my character into a Benny Hill zombie.
RIP City of Heroes
A lot of players are going to get off the fence about these gathering tools now that they are account bound.
I can almost guarantee now that the original tools with their new account bound status will be back by the end of the year to puff up the quarterly numbers.
RIP City of Heroes
Gem Store prices have remained fixed. The Currency Exchange is a different matter and what today shows is that account bound >> soulbound when it comes to gathering tools and a lot of players got off the fence.
RIP City of Heroes
Good news, guys! With today’s update, this tool is now Account Bound, and previously purchased versions can be traded in to receive an Account Bound version.

If we bought the scythe when it came out, but never used it on a toon, do we still have to trade it in to the specialist?
I would say yes. The trade costs nothing.
RIP City of Heroes
But would A not be happier if he’d had 9 gold instead? Would C not be happier if he’s has 2 gold left over? Would both not be happier if the price had been 8 gold? A and C might be satisfied with what they got, but they are both LESS satisfied than they would have been had B never existed. B did nothing positive for either of them.
But Player A and C got their money and item immediately. Sure A could post the item for sale at a higher price and C could have put in a buy order for less but they would have to wait for someone else to come along and complete that transaction.
Remember there is a 15% margin that TP traders can’t cross into and still make a profit. All that A and C needs to do to get paid more or spend less is the set the price inside that region. Who knows, a trader may decide to fulfill that order simply to remove that bid/item from the TP to reestablish the gap.
They aren’t being forced to take the offer or pay the amount, it’s their choice to forego the extra coin because (chorus) they are either indifferent to the savings or simply impatient (they want the instantaneous gratification).

(edited by Behellagh.1468)
I rarely met a player market that was transparent enough for a firmly educated choice.
In City of Heroes the double blind consignment market did provide the time and price of the last five transactions for that item but not the quantity for instance. Here we can inspect the number of buy and sell orders at each price but we don’t know how long some of those orders have been hanging around.
RIP City of Heroes
Wow, I’m actually surprised they capitulated. I guess they decided the bad feelings weren’t worth the extra $10 every time someone bought a one or they are tired about all the pestering about when they are coming back.
Thumbs up ANet. Now about those RNG ticket and ticket scraps …
RIP City of Heroes
I’ve been hearing that since I first got the game nearly a year ago. I kept looking around the screen for something highlighted or blinking and finding nothing. No invites, no mail, no whispers.
Is it possible that when something we have on the TP sells or an order filled we get a slight tonal notification?
Whatever the cause I now simply chalk it up to game quirks.
RIP City of Heroes
Depends if the game is big in Poland.
… What?
RIP City of Heroes
Player C wanted it now. Putting in a bid at 7g introduces an unknown factor, when will that order will be filled. He’s willing to pay the 2g to both eliminate that unknown and allows them to get the item immediately.
That’s no different between someone buying something from Amazon Vs the Mall. Sure Amazon may save you money but you can get your hands on it now at the Mall for only $X more. It’s the buyers choice whether the difference in price is worth the immediacy of acquisition.
RIP City of Heroes
Post-it Notes for the win.
RIP City of Heroes
No prices will plummet because since there won’t be a lot of bids anymore, since only those who would want the item for their own use will bid but most players will still buy now, those bids will be a lot lower. This means sellers will have to list the item rather than sell it off immediately which will lead to a undercutting war that will drive prices down as sellers once again try to get rid of their items ASAP.
Nah. Players will continue to place bids because they want items but don’t need them immediately. Players will continue to sell items for the same prices they always do, because the prices people are willing to pay will be the same. There’s no reason for everyone to panic. You’re like the fifth wheel on a car insisting on your own relevance to it’s stability.
You’re mistaken. I’m not a TP trader. I do put in bids but I buy to salvage or promote for coin and TP players like me will still exist in your trader free TP. I just understand that TP traders are a necessary part of the economy for all the reasons people have listed that you dismiss.
My ilk and I may still be there bidding in your trader free TP until the it ceases to be worth our time and effort at which point the markets we are involved with collapse as supply builds while demand evaporates and you’ll end up with loads more items with hundreds or thousands posted for sale at +1c.
RIP City of Heroes
Some players wanted vertical progression in items. So the devs caved but threw a time gate on them saying “Hey, you want them then grind for them. And if you don’t like grinding, maybe you should rethink your position on wanting vertical progression, hmm.”
RIP City of Heroes
Svanir champ in Wayfarer Foothills. But a lot of players can do that cause he’s easy.
Especially when it does 0 damage per hit. Still haven’t figure out why a champ hits for 0 damage. Assuming you mean the one at the svanir dome.
I think the other players when I team would disagree about the 0 damage. Last night when I joined in many players went down and had to rally/be healed. And I know that if I don’t time it right when I’m soloing it can down me as well.
RIP City of Heroes
There’s a crowd in the Tech Support section that can shoot you a parts list for a $1000 rig. Post there.

There’s a 480+ post thread about new Gem Shop ideas, done so there wouldn’t be hundreds of separate threads with suggestions with 1/2 of them being the same but you decided not to post there because…?

You could buy kitten video card and play the game with everything cut to low and off with something like a 900p monitor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102994
But we still need to know more about his Dad’s computer he’s getting as a hand me down before we can start shooting off suggestions beyond a low end, low power video card. The HD 6570 still uses 45 watts.
