I personally will only ever convert gems to gold if I had a very specific reason to do so, for example buying an pre-cursor. It makes no sense for me to convert real cash to gems purely out of investment.

Of course not. It’s not about investing, it’s solely about acquiring things.

If it turns out Quartz is used for Precursors

It took 7 days to drain 200K units off of the supply side for Quartz. 5 days before it dropped close to the number of bids. The number of bids rose by 25% in those 5 days but the bid price remained fairly constant.

If it was on reddit, I would have expected a much faster drop in supply with bid prices spiking. To me the slow pace seems to indicate speculation that either ascended armor or precursor crafting is coming soon. Some of the buying my simply be the result of market movement, either the drop in supply or the eventual spike in the price. It’s a “The Dukes are trying to corner the FCOJ market. They must know something.” moment.

Not saying the whole ball of twine didn’t start rolling downhill because of insider info, just that everyday traders may have noticed quartz being bought and joined in. Followed by those when quartz became short a term flip option.

Supply has recovered from it’s low and the flip margin is hovering around 0c but with demand at twice supply, I don’t see this new price shifting until official news about quartz is released. If it is used, I expect prices to rise further, if it isn’t, “express elevator to hell” time.

1st gen FX CPUs had performance issues, mainly clock speed. You may want to look up AMD FX patches for Win 7, there are two that could help.

I concur with adding a 2nd 4GB stick as dual channel can help performance.

There was a AMD video driver that hurt performance IIRC. I’m currently using 13.4 without problems.

Some of the graphic settings are “surprisingly” CPU bound. Mainly shadows and reflections.

I know and I do but this is a perception problem for ANet if the GMs appear not to crack down on a player when the chat log is open and shut. Not asking for a GM controlled reaper to appear and harvest the offending spammer but it’s analogous to calling the police about the neighbor’s loud stereo. It’s obvious that it’s too loud since I can hear it from my property (large lots not postage stamp ones or connected) yet the music doesn’t get turned down. It makes you doubt the effectiveness of reporting anything if something so obvious appears to be ignored.

That’s my point. If we see GMs handling a trivial problem like this, it gives the playerbase confidence that the GMs can handle worse problems.

I wouldn’t say the GT 740M is bad. There’s a heck of a lot worse you can do plus your resolution is fairly low and you say you’re fine with medium settings.

As for the i5-3337U, it’s not as great as one might think. The i5 is normally a dual core in the mobile arena and even with HT, this game isn’t going to let it run at it’s turbo speed so at 1.8GHz, not quick like a bunny.

This game is documented worse than my parent’s new Ford. Who writes a car manual that doesn’t tell you what all the buttons on the dash are for or even where the rear defrost button is. There’s a section on the rear defroster but they don’t show you where the button is. Upside you can ask the car to turn on the rear defroster, sort of. Also the steering wheel has more controls than an console controller. My parents have trouble with all the buttons on the DVR/Cable box remote.

Right after they add the Asura moonbase.

Any significant work on the render to add support for either of these APIs to get optimal performance will take a lot of time, devs and commitment on ANet’s part. Simply slapping a couple of new graphic APIs at the back end aren’t going to help if all the setup to call the APIs aren’t working as well as they do in other game engines.

We’ve all seen Dx9 in game engines run faster so it’s not the API but the rest of the renderer that needs TLC first.

Let me add my two cents and have seen this as well back during the trial month. Spammers who post in map, once a minute for a website that deals in gold selling in LA, I reported them, went about my game playing and when I returned to LA about two hours later, same player, same spam, once a minute.

Now I understand during trial periods that it’s whack a mole with these guys since another account is free so it’s kind of pointless since it’s likely they had other accounts ready to go if the ban hammer came down but they can’t have infinite number of accounts. Even if it’s only for a couple of minutes it would at least feel like something was being done to stop them. I would still put this lower on the queue than actual abuse/poor language choices but it’s pretty open and shut.

My prediction is that eventually gem prices will reach a point where you cannot reasonably afford them through normal play. Only those who do things outside of normal game-play, such as investing in items and using exploits, will be able to afford a fair amount of gems for the time they spent in-game.

So far this has happened in every MMO I’ve seen, even in those FTP games which don’t support this sort of system if you look at trade rates of in-game currency for cash shop currency items/cards, and I don’t expect GW2 to be an exception.

At which point the hope is players will have been weened off of the gold to gem exchange and accept buying gems with cash. Hopefully by then ANet will solve their problem with buying gems online since it appears as frustration free as an IRS audit or signing up for health insurance. Thank ANet that stores in my area carry Gem cards if I ever feel the need to buy one.

Let me point something out here. The game rarely uses more than three core’s worth of performance so going from a quad to a hex core won’t make much of a difference but clock speed does. Now I don’t know how well a 1100T BE overclocks beyond the 3.4MHz you got with the 945 but it’s likely not going to be a significant amount without a decent cooler, a bit of luck and deep OC mojo. I see that 4.2GHz is possible (pureoverclock.com) which could give you a 20% boost over what you have if you can finesse it up to that speed.

These Gold Sinks...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

I kinda’ have to disagree to a point there is a substantial amount of RL money that is brought into the game everyday through people buying gems with RL money. What I’m saying is they only convert and bank, they do not buy anything with the gold.

Snip

If you are saying here that real life money brings gold into the game, then you are incorrect.

When someone, let’s say me, buys gems with real money and sells them on the TP, no gold is generated. The gold I get is 100% from other players who are buying gems with ingame gold, no new gold is created. This gold is directly transferred from their bank to mine. Zero gold is generated and zero inflation occurs.

But what about the people who use RL money to buy gems then convert those gem to gold on the TP? Doesn’t that add a new amount of gold to the system?

No, that would be gold from the gold-to-gem side of things.

K….but someone is going to have to explain the difference to me please.

The exchange was started with a lot of gems and little gold. The ratio between the two meant gems weren’t worth a lot of gold.

As we buy gems with gold, the gold we use is deposited in the exchange and not destroyed (except for 15% sink). So gold in the exchange increases, gems in the exchange decrease so now gems are worth more gold.

Now if you sell gems to the exchange, you are being paid in gold that players used to buy gems. And when you are paid another 15% is taken by the sink which is why the two exchange rates are separated by the amount they are. Amount of gold in the exchange goes down, amount of gems goes up and gems are worth less gold.

So using the exchange, gems are neither created or destroyed by the game beyond what was created to initialize it over a year ago (I have a caveat for that assumption that has to do with new accounts).

Error attempting to sell AAAAAAAH!!!!

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Behellagh.1468

Behellagh.1468

No but it’s still my belief that the delay isn’t for anti-botting, so the captcha suggestion is pointless, but as a simple way to manage the rate of sell requests during peak hours. ANet probably believed that most players would sell off anything to the TP between encounters, hence the initial low number of items you can sell quickly, while the rest of your goods would have been field salvage into mats and deposited quickly into your bank or sold to a nearby vendor/heart.

And how do you have hundreds of items to sell? Did you expand your personal inventory to max with 20 slot bags? I barely get 50-60 items in an evening of play that aren’t mats that I redirect to the bank and they’re from hitting a couple of boss events.

But for me, my play style means I hit vendor/hearts periodically to sell junk, deposit mats, field salvage for luck and occasionally sell something to the TP but never for the “sell now” or “buy now” price. I need every copper so I check the range of “buy now” prices (do a buy more on the item) to see if the lowest one is currently a low spike due to an oversell at the former “sell now” price. I then price my item, post it and move to the next item or move along to my next event. My style works for me and I don’t get that message. Even when I’m selling a ton of runes/sigils from salvaging rares from playing the TP or promoting masterwork runes/sigils, the slight pause introduced by changing to last two digits of a price before posting is enough for me to avoid getting this message.

All I’m counseling is to slow up a bit and take a breather when dumping your loot on the TP. And maybe cut back on the caffeine and energy drinks a bit.

It can always be worse, try doing some simple maintenance on your parent’s single core Pentium 4 Dell. I can’t believe this was considered fast a one time.

A lot will tell you to go Intel i5 or i7 over an FX-8350. In most other games it should be fine but here the extra cores in the FX don’t help as GW2 is currently limited to around 3 cores worth of work. However if they ever rework the engine to do a better job scaling to number of available cores, that’s another story.

R9 290 is fast and cheap (compared to Titan, GTX 780Ti) but is very, very temp sensitive to achieve it’s performance. I would wait until some of the manufacturers slap a better cooler on it than the default blower.

The game engine would need to be completely rewritten to work on the PS4 simply because the CPU in the PS4 is roughly 1/2 the power of a FX-8350. They would have to come up with a more balanced approach to multithreading the engine since right now the game uses only 3 cores worth of CPU power, regardless how many cores you have.

Now will MMOs come to the next gen consoles. Of course, already happened with DCUO not to mention FF whatever. But in the case of DCUO, the game engine they use is UE3 so it was up to Epic to recode it for the PS4 and not SOE, although I expect they provided a lot of support.

An earlier Studio (can and DID) find ways to do MORE with LESS.

That is to say… this would have still been considered a windfall profit for the Studio we all knew back around 2006… So no, they can’t just fix this by throwing out Expansions UNLESS those expansions actually focus on all the things everyone here has been begging them for…. (completely NEW weapon skills, “real” changes to Zerg-vs-Zerg, more meaningful storyline & personal story plot that branches and STAYS branched, compelling dialogue, more frequent PvE skill updates, ….and a serious look at the Ranger class in general probably wouldn’t hurt either considering it was the 2nd most rolled class but the least playable in end-game).

Welp good luck with it in any case guys. The clock is ticking…

This post deserves more attention.

Wholeheartedly agreed.

And that will never happen because it describes an entirely different game.

I know that the original GW fans loved the million weapons and zillion skills and the challenge to find the combination that dominates all others but it’s obvious in GW2’s design that the devs chose to go with a much simpler system to appeal to the more casual player as well as making it easier to balance and less likely to make kitten builds.

The personal stories merge because in the end it’s about you Vs the big bad dragon. It’s the natural convergence since it’s what everyone is working against. Now if they introduce another of the elder dragons I can see the paths diverging again with each order approaching it’s defeat again through their own means but coming together and the end again.
