Well it’s not national, as in the US, yet. However that doesn’t mean states can’t pass laws to implement one themselves, see “Amazon Tax”. You’re going to have to check to see if your state now has one as of Dec 1st.
Now a cursory look I don’t see any new internet sales tax implemented. Maybe you were getting away without paying before and now with the new system they make sure it’s out of your pocket and not their’s. Or the new system is busted.
So what state?
RIP City of Heroes
You’re on one of the three strongest US servers in WvW. You shouldn’t have any problem getting 95% of the points if you are simply patient. Make sure your two culling settings (the last two before the check boxes on the bottom) are highest for the 1st and lowest for the second. It’ll help in seeing others coming while not loading down your system as much. Also you the team and not the map channel in chat. Map chat everyone sees it, team chat only your server sees it.
RIP City of Heroes
As someone who doesn’t have a Facebook, Google+ or Twitter account I laugh all the time over the phishing e-mails I use to get. Don’t get nearly as many as e-mail providers beefed up their spam filter. Downside of course is for GW2, this also means legitimate e-mails get binned straight away as well.
RIP City of Heroes
But you still aren’t telling us anything. A screenshot of your graphic settings means we don’t play 20 questions. But until then at what resolution?
Run the GPU-Z app (Google it) and make sure the bus interface is PCIe x16. That you aren’t running any custom catalyst settings or using an injector like SweetFX or whatever it’s called.
How fragmented is the drive the game is on? Unless it’s on an SSD consider defragging that drive. Waiting for assets to load may be affecting frame rate.
So other than an idle browser, no ads running, no cat videos, not doing an AV scan of all your drives or building a search index, etc., you are only running the game. The game is only giving you 20fps at best out in the middle of nowhere not looking at something complex.
As for game engines, necessity is the mother of invention and after multiple generations of engine that works on underpowered consoles as well, DICE has an engine that’s pretty efficient.
RIP City of Heroes
No they aren’t.

Agreed, you are buying a good. If I went to the Target and bought a Gem Card it’s taxed. Forget about the EU where the tax is already built into the price.
I buy Gem Cards all the time and they’re never taxed. The purchase is always exactly $25.
And what state do you live in and what brick and mortar store do you buy them at.
RIP City of Heroes
Gee another exchange rate thread, must be a release/new item/sale on the TP day.
The exchange price is set by it’s internal supply of gold and gems (no gems aren’t created when you use the exchange) as the more we buy and we don’t restock by selling gems, the higher the rate will go until it reaches infinity. Fortunately some players will buy gems with cash and sell them to the exchange for big clunky bags of gold which lowers the rate so it should never reach infinity. Considering how volatile the rate has been, I would say we are closing on the point where selling gems for gold is attracting more participants.
RIP City of Heroes
It still seems a bit shady that it gets fixed right after their big sale. I was expecting it was going to get reverted, but maybe not so fast and without any mention of it. I’m betting there will be a silver fed version for master level salvaging soon.
Fix is done, as it was broken, in a patch. It’s hardly shady and in the threads I saw about how it was broken I tried to tell players don’t buy the item if you expected the master kit results.
RIP City of Heroes
Agreed, you are buying a good. If I went to the Target and bought a Gem Card it’s taxed. Forget about the EU where the tax is already built into the price.

You are running a dual core CPU in a game that prefers 3 or 4, no HT doesn’t count. Game tends to be bound by CPU in complex zones such as cities and around large crowds of other players. Doesn’t matter how powerful your video card is then. This make LA particularly a bad spot to wander through during events like this.
We need more information to help you or is this simply a vent thread? I assume you aren’t also trying to do something equally compute or graphics heavy in the background.
Screenshot of your game graphic settings. Would help. Also which version of the driver are you running. Some tend to be better than others.

I’m guessing they weren’t selling anymore. I always thought they were pointless and expensive. So I’m guessing now it’ll only be Costume Brawl and skins you actual use outside of town.
RIP City of Heroes
I noticed that, when sales are over or items pulled, when they had the last batch of daily sales, using the countdown timers to figure out when it’s gone. It may actually be 0800 UTC.
Sorry if I went off but I’ve been seeing that style post after every limit time item vanishes from the store whether it was unlimited gathering tools to skins to sale items. It’s not like people aren’t familiar with the concept of sales or limited availability. We’ve turned it into a yearly survival of the fittest just after Thanksgiving in the US.

Maybe leaving soon means something else in hipster.
RIP City of Heroes
Gem Store items are usually removed at midnight Pacific time.
RIP City of Heroes
They told everyone that they were leaving. They put a bloody countdown timer on it for crying out loud and if you were to occupied to notice it’s not their problem. I’m sure they will likely be back but for a very short time like when they’ve brought back other items, for only a day or a weekend. But you will likely miss it then too.
If you thought they were so beautiful then why did it take you so long to fork over any gems for it? There were available for four weeks.
This is SOP here, some limited time item finally disappears and two minutes later a post appears bemoaning it’s departure and asking for them to be back. Why? You obviously didn’t feel strongly enough to get it while it was here, what assures ANet that you or others like you would buy it if it returned for, say another week? It’s like complaining you didn’t get a chance to donate to that cool Kickstarter. Limited time means limited time.

So have you two, @staaksie and @Shuuri, followed Gail’s suggestion and file a support ticket?

Only word was the mumblings of an analyst for KDB Daewoo which in their last report on NCSOFT (11/18) said …
“Looking further ahead in 2H14, the expansion pack for Guild Wars 2 is due to be released in the US and Europe, while both Guild Wars 2 and Blade & Soul are set to be commercialized in several Asian markets (Japan, Korea and Taiwan).”
Then again they have been wrong before on expansion rumors.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m going to say there is a reason he used the word “currently”.
RIP City of Heroes
At least this post’s politer.
Simple, someone reported it and the agent who reviewed it agreed. There are two rules from the naming policy that was violated, “Reference religious or historical figures” and “Use misspellings or alternative spellings of names that violate any of the above rules”.
It doesn’t matter if it got by the name filter or if you had it since forever, all it takes is one person to be upset about it and file a report and than it takes whoever processes that to agree.
You can always submit a ticket to fight it but it’s a pretty clear violation.

I imagine this will be one of the armor’s “fixed” for China’s version.
RIP City of Heroes
Underboob is nothing when you have this!
Hey, how’d you pull this one off? (pun intended)
By equipping armor that isn’t designed for your race. At one point, you could transmute racial armor and make it non race restrictive, allowing you to run around like that. This was fixed fairly quickly however.
You can preview this, but it doesn’t work for humans [&AgECWQAA]

No I buy minor extra cheap off the TP and MF them. Sell off the ones worth more than X and repeat with the remander until I have less than 4 cheap minors which I save, along with any soulbound ones for the next time I buy off the TP. Make around 150% profit for a half an hours worth of clicking and listing.
RIP City of Heroes
Items sell on an 1-e^n discharge curve. Most sell quickly, within an hour or two, then there are ones that take longer. I leave them up until the TP says they’ve been there for a day, which we all know is longer than a day, closer to two (why is accurate elapse time so kitten difficult to implement on the TP? I put this up 5 hours ago not seconds ago). There may be only one to three items out of the original two dozen or so that need to be pulled and listed again since the price is so far out of whack or there’s a huge pile of cheaper priced just below it.
Minor runes don’t turn over quickly enough so a 200+ pile just below you in price will be not get eroded away in a reasonable period of time. Major runes do sell quickly, unless the price I’m basing mine on is unbeknownst to me as out of step historically.
So usually after a “TP day” I only have a couple types of minor runes left. It’s just after what seems to be a regular occurrence that I base my price on some out of whack spike that comes out of nowhere and watch how the “normal” price is some 30-40% lower got under my skin. It’s not frequently enough to force me to toggle over to the browser and lookup the price history of each item, when I do nothing is ever out of the ordinary. And so when I don’t, then I bump into this.
Just needed to let off some steam and post about what I’ve encountered from time to time.
RIP City of Heroes
I swear to the 7 Gods that when ever I decide to sell off runes it’s right after someone buys all the inexpensive ones on the market so the low sale price is now super high, so when I place a lower bid it is still out of whack with recent prices. It could in the afternoon, it could be 3am but it happens way to frequently for my taste and it’s (was) a bother to bringing up the history’s of these items just to be sure that the price I’m undercutting isn’t some highly localized spike.
OR right after I place my items someone(s) then dumps hundreds of them just below my price. Sure I knocked 50c off the previous low sale price to post my 2 runes but then someone knocks the price down another 1-5c and suddenly there are multiple hundreds available at that price. What makes that the magical price point everyone jumps on and not mine?
GHAAAH!
Sorry, it just aggravates me when everytime I sell about 20% of the items I’m selling experience this. Especially the first case. Second case it’s the nature of the TP to be undercut, it’s just odd so many for sale within minutes just under my price, that’s what makes it notable and not the fact I’m undercut.
It’s market psychology in action, fascinating to watch, annoying to be delayed in my income because of it.
RIP City of Heroes

But DJKofee, the Black Citadel isn’t a good place to measure FPS, or maybe it is?
Now I have a much weaker CPU than DJ and a much weaker GPU than either of you and this is what I get when I place myself and DJ’s screen shot location with his settings (oops not quite the same, forgot DoF). And for some reason I’m out performing DJ’s rig. Something else is off.

When you start the game up, things behind you aren’t loaded into memory yet and need to be fetched from the hard drive for the 1st time. Spin in place a couple of times and then stop, pointing in the same direction. What’s your frame rate now? As you move the game will have to keep loading new areas into memory so your frame rate will dip as you move.
But again it shouldn’t be a problem moving about.

Just FYI wildstar will be like Eve, in that you can/will be able to use ingame currency to buy game time.
Yes but only if other players buy game time, at a premium ($20 vs $15), and put it up for sale. Would it end up like our legendaries where only market players and speed runners have enough currency to buy it? If I’m paying for someone else’s ride I want proper compensation as in a whole lot of currency.
The price will create their version of gem exchange complainers. I can see the topics now.

Hopefully never. Primarily it would likely go along with higher level armors and weapons that would make all the time gating currently totally pointless.
RIP City of Heroes
As for the armor and Gem store point, sales of said armor help paid for it’s creation. It costs X manhours to create, they get Y gems for it where some aggregate percentage is gems paid with cash. The bean counters can measure that item’s success.
There are a couple of dozen of armors per race and weight class for “free” already in the game. A number a locked up behind specialized currency like dungeon and WvW tokens or karma but are available. I wouldn’t mind seeing more added to the mix, but as it is you either do it right, like adding another look per weight class per race per level group or create a new full blown dungeon with a new set of tokens for the armor there. But doing it right takes time.
MMO players have notoriously short attention spans as is so that’s why the emphasis is on the Living Story, new content, every two weeks, gone in four leaving behind some minor change to the world. Is this discussion on “core content” just another way to ask for an expansion, which may already be in the works.
RIP City of Heroes
You mean in general as in they shouldn’t be allowed or are you questioning the effectiveness that the skills two daggers grant you?
RIP City of Heroes
Don’t look at me, I too am a “freeloader” in GW2. But I accept the harsh economic reality behind it. I’m able to play for free because others are willing to carry my expense to ANet. I’ve learned to temper my wants and plan as best as I can to get them. Now if I was a mini collector, maybe I would finally pay the $50, a price of a new PC game at retail, to get the mini and 220 gold I would get exchanging the gems.
Yes you have a point to. This is the first item that is only available outside of the gem store and does set a bad precedent. But it’s a solution to a problem they created by having a mini as a con exclusive in the first place. It wouldn’t have been such a problem if they gave away funny town hats or even a special title. They stepped in it when they made it a collectible. This is their way to dig out of it and as long as it’s a one time thing, great.
In the future, if they want to drive gems for cash sales, do what everyone else does and have a gem bonus sale. Pay for X, get Y more.
Oh and ANet, get someone to sit on your pay server for gems full time. The failure rate seems to be ticking up again if the account forum is to be believed. I understand CC fraud is rampant in MMOs but it makes you feel like you’re flying and the TSA agents are in a bad mood. I can buy thousands of dollars of items online over my kitten phone while traveling in Istanbul but it seems loads of players can’t buy any amount of gems sitting at their desk in their homes. There’s got to be a better way that what you have right now. It’s passive aggressive nature may be costing you income.

(edited by Behellagh.1468)
Your argument might have merit, if GW2 was a Pay 2 Win model. However, since it’s not, the only thing that you’re complaining about is that paying customers get a free gift, and non-paying ones don’t.
No! I don’t care that you’re getting it for free, and i don’t want one for free either. Has anyone read anything i wrote?
I’m ONLY saying i don’t like the items being exclusively for those who have bought gems.
It’s your opinion that you don’t like that paying customers get a free exclusive bonus, and non-paying customers don’t. That’s fine. And in response, I explained why it makes perfect business sense to treat paying customers well by offering these bonus items.
To make it clear, let me offer a situation for all you complainers. Say you own a business. Now you have two types of players that support your business. “Customer A” spends $60 one time over the course of a year. “Customer B” spends $600 over the same time frame. Question: Which customer would you rather cater to so they continue to do business with you?
Depends on how many $60 customers versus $600 you have. If catering to the $600 drives off enough of the $60 ones then you’re doing something wrong.
RIP City of Heroes
I think you misunderstood everything i wrote.
I know it’s a bonus for buying 4000 gems. I was saying it should be offered in the gemshop for 4000 gems (still keeping it super rare and expensive), so it’s not exclusively for players who have purchased gems, other players who would want it badly enough to pay 350 gold, or whatever the exchange rate is, are not excluded.
By legitimate i don’t mean free, lol.
Exchanging in-game currency for gems to buy it is “free”. Free as in not costing real world currency to acquire it. This way it doesn’t encourage abnormal “grind or gold” play or make it an exclusive to the 1%ers of Tyria. ANet gets to pad their 4th quarter numbers, die hard collectors fill that hole in their collection the only people who don’t win are the ones who insist the game they enjoy playing is paid by others.
Want free to play games? MapleStory and it’s ilk is right over there. It’ll teach you the real meaning of grind, of pay to win, of nickel and diming you for costume and inventory space. Or you can play one of the former subscription now hybrid F2P MMOs and find loads of content locked behind paywalls. You think our cash shop is expensive, wait till you see the prices in those games.
I know, maybe players who haven’t bought any gems with cash or redeem any gem cards over the last year get treated to intrusive video ads during each of the load screens. Really adds to the death penalty if you use a waypoint to rez.
RIP City of Heroes
Again we hear the arguments like being “betrayed” or “forced to buy Gems”. I still don’t understand how one person can be mad that Anet is offering bonuses for buying Gems. The OP has yet to justify how a company is wrong for offering free items as an incentive to players for making a purchase.
This argument, no matter how you look at it, has no merit. The option to buy Gems will always be there. The Gem Store will always be updated. The only difference in December is that you get free extra goodies with a monetary transaction. Each and every way you look at it, the players benefit greatly. There is no single negative aspect to this deal. If you can’t afford it, or don’t want to buy, then don’t.
Saying you’re Entitled to free stuff now, because you bought something in the past, is a weak argument. It’s like me saying that when I bought a laptop from a company 5 years ago, so I should get another laptop for free since I supported them in the past.
Look i understand Anet needs to make money, but denying a portion of it’s player base from ever being able to receive an item, that another player can easily buy with $50 is not good for it’s business model. It really is one step closer to those pay to win korean mmorg’s where you can only get certain items by paying cash. I refuse to play these types of games, and the reason i play GW2 is because i can exchange gold for gems to get items from the shop. If Anet continues making items unobtainable to players who don’t buy gems, then i’ll have to conclude that this game isn’t for me.
I don’t care if this minipet cost 4000 gems in the cash shop, if there isn’t a legitimate way to achieve this item through the actaully game Anet has failed a large part of thier player who do not buy gems. We paid for this game too, and denying us content is not a good step for the game to take.
First it doesn’t cost 4000 gems, it a bonus for buying with cash 4000 gems. You still have 4000 gems after getting one. I know that’s not how some will see it but I can’t believe that there are many hard core mini collectors, which Mr Sparkles is appealing to, have never spent real money on gems to buy minis.
Second how is buying with cash not legitimate. Oh you mean legitimate as in free.
Third a mini isn’t content. It doesn’t unlock an ability, class, area or quest chain. It’s a status symbol. It’s a beanie baby. I know collecting is a legitimate secondary activity like exploring or farming or playing the TP but it is a way to maintain the exclusivity of the item, it was only distributed at game cons, yet allow players who aren’t going to fly across the country or world to get it.
I’m sorry but I’ve experience this, exclusive content not available to all, in other MMOs and it’s not the end of the world or causes mass departures. At least here they have set up a means to get it. Sure it’ll pad their 4th quarter sales, good for them, helps keep the home office from micromanaging. But you still have all those Gems after you get it. Save them for a rainy day, cash them in for gold (gold for gem buyers thank you), buy enough keys so you have a chance for a ticket, don’t care but when the new year starts you will have your mini, your exclusive backpack and your pile of gems.

Like the other 20 threads about this it’s only cash bought or gem card redeemed gems. You don’t have to buy them all at once but you must redeem gem cards you plan to use toward this in the month of December. And you won’t get the bonus until January.

I’m tossing in with the “they won’t say” crowd. If it’s a bug, and they do fix it. No harm, no foul. But if they confirm that it’s broken they there’s all sorts of problems if they tell current owners to stop using it (not sure if they can track what salvage kit is used for every salvage) but if they tell them don’t worry that would encourage other players to buy it for the “exploit”. Then others, not understanding it’s broken, buying it for the better stats and then get upset when the bug is fixed.
Keep it on the down low so when the fix is applied the vast number of players who don’t read the forums and don’t own one themselves will never know. Rule one about bugs that create “exploits” is you don’t tell your game’s population about it.
