Safe Passage in WvW Areas

I actually posted this to invite discussion and to prove to a guildie that such a thing probably would not go down well as, to quote my comment to them, “you have the earn that map, like any other map area.” But I welcome the commentary above. Thanks to everyone who replied and points well made – especially the one immediately above this comment that notes that WvW should be removed from map completion and then more people could wear the world completion status star with pride. In my case the above is all that is preventing me from doing exactly that.

Mounts [merged]

I’ve wanted a mount that has a better turn of speed than my own running speed since I joined up (this said, I also want somebody to fix the auto-drawing weapons when I run through gas clouds as that slows me down and nothing is technically attacking me) but a large animal, or series of animals could be used as mounts. We have flying carpets and brooms, so why not a mount – but this does mean the question has to be asked, like a rangers pet, does it change when you go from land to water or does it exist irrespective of environment?

Safe Passage in WvW Areas

Belenus.9132

I have yet to get world completion and part of the reason for this is that the maps which I need are in WvW areas. Now I suggest that ArenaNET might consider adding a feature that can only be activated in WvW areas and which once active makes players invulnerable to incoming fire and they are incapable of returning it even if they wanted too. Such a ‘’safe mode’’ would allow players who simply want to get World Completion in WvW maps to do so without having other players using them as targets of opportunity. Perhaps such players can have a icon over their head showing their NON-COMBATANT status. Once they exit WvW said option is turned-off.

An interesting point, but my biggest complaint is in account binding the ax, sickle and pick tools to an account. Many is the time that I have wanted to offer a colleague or a passer-by one of these items and not been able too as they are account bound. Personally, I’m of the opinion that such items should be freely exchangeable between players only if they are unused.

Lion's Arch ... rebuild ideas

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

Although I’m sure that ArenaNET are busy at the moment rebuilding Lion’s Arch in their own image, it’s fun to wonder what would work best for the city were any of us allowed to make it over. The attached image shows a quick sketch of what I think would work well.

Using the existing city ruins as a basis, wouldn’t it be interesting to keep the existing features but to resurrect the Black Lion Trading Post and the Bank, rebuilt to their former glory and the Mystic Forge back where it was originally located. The statue of the Lion would be reconstructed and a permanent memorial added at the old Asuran Gate complex to honor those who fell during Scarlet’s invasion. Docks would be constructed along the northwestern shore and a small community located there but the major reconstruction would take place on and around the island at Inner Harbor with the new marketplace center being located above the lake with docks and a small trading district in the styles of human, norn, sylvari, charr and asura style structures. As you can see, new roads would be built to link the new city with the old, and with the fort on the southern shore. Finally, the old lighthouse would be reconstructed as what would Lion’s Arch be without a nod to it’s past?

What would YOU do?

Discussion Animation for Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

Off-subject for a moment here, but my reasons will become clear in a moment; I recently purchased How To Dance – Volume 1 and as you know that acts as an override which replaces the existing default dance routine with three specialist dance moves – however, this isn’t what I’m suggesting as noted above, as it effectively acts to override the existing animations.

In my suggestion, /banter would be executed by a user when they want to initiate a chatting animation and the execution of any other action, such as movement (walk, running off, jump, or the various emotes) would act to cancel out /banter – in this fashion it could be used safely as it would be no different in combat, say, to typing in /threaten – wherein the animation executes and the player continues. I mean, /threaten has it’s uses outside of activating scripted items in world, and is often used (as are other emotes) by the role playing community.

Discussion Animation for Players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

In the course of wandering around the various regions I have from time to time watched with some small amusement NPC’s engaged in ‘chatting’ with each other and they normally perform this neat little animation, moving their arms, gesturing as they speak to add emphasis to what they are saying (even if silent, no dialogue) and I think it would be a great idea to add this option to player avatars. Perhaps ArenaNET might consider adding the option for say, ‘’ /banter ’’ to make your character do what the NPCs are doing – and that way, if we wished, we could have player characters standing there chatting to each other in a much more realistic manner.

UPDATE (Dec 7th) Perhaps /banter could be used to add a series of options, so that for example /banter 1 /banter 2 etc. may well activate a different animation from the available pool known to exist?

I cannot speak for any other class because I predominately play Rangers because I like the character/pet interaction and the power that a pet provides to the character. When in the field and the pet is set to defend (swords/dove) the pet will respond to any attack on you by taking off and engaging the attacker and will attempt to eliminate them unless you intervene, another person intervenes or you call the pet back. Now when the pet engages the enemy your weapons go hot, they activate and if you are running around the weapons you are carrying are deployed automatically.

This can be VERY irritating when running through poison gas for example as every time the weapons deploy you slow down and if you happen to be jumping it’s time to hold up a small sign with HELP! written on it like those old cartoons as that’s exactly what happens and you plunge to your doom.

Of course, seasoned Rangers will know that to prevent the pet activating all you need do is select the ‘dove’ for passive and the animal will not attack anything, but the weapons will still deploy if the avatar goes tactical. So you very quickly get used to hitting the deploy/stow key A LOT when you play a Ranger. When weapons are stowed you move faster (if you are a Charr you drop onto all fours and run faster than you do on two) and you are more maneuverable. Automating the process is rather pointless beyond what is already in place, but it would be nice if weapons did not deploy when the player is exposed to GAS or fumes or some such as it gets pretty irritating pretty quickly to keep putting the weapons away.

Would it be possible for players to be able to choose WHEN they need the weapons over the game choosing for us? So with regret, I have to disagree – it should be manual, not automatic for any reason. If the player is NOT paying sufficient attention to the game to NOT notice when they are under attack then WHY are they playing?

Arcos is wearing a predominately Nobel outfit with a nod to Guild Wars (I) in the form of a Krytan skull shoulderpad. Slaine is wearing an outfit consisting of Berserkers privateer shoulders, rogue coat of the grove, Clerics privateer gloves of infiltration, rogue pants of the Centaur and finally Clerics privateer boots of the traveler. Finally Soren is a Norn barbarian hero so is naked from the waist up, but his outfit consists of Clerics Dark Templer Tassels of the Flock and Carrion Dark Templer Greaves of Lyssa.

A little off subject but valid nevertheless is that downed players (whether they are just plain unlucky or got cornered by more beast-power than they could handle) inspire other players to take time out from their busy slaughter-thon to help them up. I spend a lot of my time in the Silverwastes doing this. Fact is as Arcos Shiningpaw I now spend my time between hard combat and helping others with emphasis on helping as the place would be a hellsapopping with corpses if somebody didn’t have a care and do so.

Putting away weapons is simple – and frankly it ought to be explained to newbies by some in-world dialogue – but for the record, do the following: Game Menu > Options > Control Options (the mouse icon) then scroll all the way down to the bottom, the section marked Misc. Then find and choose a key binding for DRAW/STOW WEAPONS. I use the U key for this, but the choice of keys is yours.

You may also want to key bind WALK for walking with convoys. For this scroll the same list to the top and find WALK under the Movement options and assign a key. In my case I use the / key but once again the choice is yours.

Slightly off-subject, sadly I’ve seen a few instances of late of apparently AFK players standing in the Silverwastes, often dead and resuscitated only to be killed again and seemingly unaffected by the auto-logging out (one observed instance was there for in excess of four hours) that I am told exists for players who are motionless for an extended amount of time. It occurred to me (and several other players who entered into discussion about this) that they are still being rewarded with the chests, so could this be considered a form of bot and if so, should I consider reporting said individuals (hate doing this without actual reason) for suspected botting?

Want the human female animations back

Apologies on not spotting this earlier, but I had to re-read the entire thread to spot it – but as Kamui.4038 states, the female animations which everyone is discussing here still in place in the game but reserved now for NPCs. If this is the case, surely it follows that the animations have not been deemed offensive to the Asian market and maybe, just maybe are bugged as suggested although I still find this very hard to accept. If they were bugged, surely the human female would have no animations at all. You have pretty competent coders there, ArenaNET and I’m sure the core code is well known to them so how can this be happening?

I can understand it if all of the WPs in a area which they have worked hard to get into are contested … anyway, you see the point which brings me to my other post which mentioned that a downed player is given information to the effect that other players are coming to assist them BEFORE they are actually resurrected. But we’ve all been there. Anyway, I just wander around wondering why people log in if they’re just going to stand around doing nothing, going nowhere etc. I honestly sometimes wonder if some of them are bots.

AFK Players: Identifying Them More Easily?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Belenus.9132

Last week I proposed that Guild Wars 2 be amended to include the option of clicking on the icons which represent downed and expired players (not NPCs) so that they could be sent a automated message stating that help from a given individual other player was heading their way to assist in raising them or assisting in battle or both. Now today I’ve been strolling around and approaching motionless dead players I often have cause to ask “Anyone home? Are you AFK?” because a lot of the time they are and this is highly irritating and frankly why should I help them up if ten seconds later they are gonna be trail-mix all over again? I seldom resurrect AFKs for this reason.

This brings me to add an amendment to my original suggest and that is for players who are downed and lying there, stiff as a board to have a timer above their heads which reads how long they have been motionless. It would certainly give those of us who bring back would-be AFKs an idea if they are AFK or simply unable to communicate or loathe to do so (which is rude in my book). What does the forum think?

Rather than leaving the game why not simply adjust your style of playing and do as I do once I made lvl 80. I now spend most of my time showing newbies how to play, how to do things and offering advice if they want it. I also organize small hunts, exploration and I show others the best spots on maps (any map) for their needs and point them in the right direction. Too many players complain about there being nothing more to do when there is and it’s called HELPING OTHER PLAYERS – especially those who do not have your experience or know what you know to improve their game. Want the human female animations back

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

How can this be a ‘bug’ – the programming for every character is probably controlled by a series of procedures with certain events triggering animations. When a character is at rest it will after a predetermined time go into a animated loop of actions to give it the appearance of life. The code is the same for every character so it’s hardly a bug now – as the only difference would be a animation which has to be ‘called’ and ‘executed’ to provide the required effects. Why not simply tell us ArenaNET that (as has been suspected) your Asian releases have been scrutinized and pretty silly complaints made. If there is any truth to this why not simply check for country of origin for any given human female character and prevent animations (if allegedly you feel that strongly about it) or allow them. Personally, I will admit that this is suspicious but this is the 21st Century and what possible harm or offence could anyone in any country take? I mean, it’s not exactly the ghost of Michael Jackson grabbing his nether regions now, is it?

Optimal Chest Armor Show or Conceal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

I like to experiment with the look of a character when I create one and with the Norn males especially the ‘barbarian’ looks often works very well. However, running around the landscape with your chest piece off just to look more imposing has some serious drawbacks; the most obvious being that you are no longer protected by the armor rating it provided. It is for this reason that I’m proposing that the game be amended to allow the concealment of the chest armor so that the character’s physical attributes can be admired.

I realize of course that this may not work for everyone and that there may be some gender related issues too, but that can be taken care of in the case of females with a portion of suitably moral armor or coverings as we don’t want to offend anyone with the human/norn/sylvari/charr or asuran body now, do we? Anyway, for a demo of my idea, see the attached image – a simple mock-up I created to demonstrate the point.

Suggestion: player camera improvements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

(as suggested by Randulf.7614 for me to post this here – thank you)

As some of you will be aware, you can take pictures within Guild Wars 2 by switching off the interfaces and identifying information above characters and objects so only the landscape itself is shown and that makes it possible to take great screen captures. However, when I’m making screen captures I often have to hide my own character and I achieve this in a number of ways. When on land I stand near to a solid wall and then type /sleep to get my character as low as possible then pan the camera around until it is where I want it.

In water I do the same thing but obviously under water cannot hide my character which is most irritating, but if I want to take an image of something from the water and above it, it takes careful maneuvering to put my character just below the surface to achieve a clean shot. But as you might imagine, there is only so much you can do with the POV camera which is centered on your character. Years ago I beta tested a virtual world called Second Life and one of the nicer ideas in SL was that you could move the camera around independently of the character, simply by moving it to a point relative to the character and then zooming into it, and then if you wished, moving to another point and doing the same – all without moving the character itself.

Such was SL that with suitable points which could be clicked on, I could maneuver the freelook camera almost anywhere and doors and walls ceased to be a problem as I could now bypass them to see what was inside. I would like to propose that Guild Wars 2 have such a system introduced as an additional option. It would not be that hard to implement and could be selected by simply pressing a key (toggle) on the keyboard which switches the camera from following the character to FREELOOK mode. An additional option would be for the character itself to be toggles to visible/invisible but only to the user of that character. For everyone else it would be visible in world. I would be interested in hearing what other users think.

Assisting Downed Players (suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

It just occurred to me that if this was implemented and multiple ‘Noble Souls’ (NS) offered to resurrect the downed/dead user and were inbound on their location; we could have a cut-off where if more than a given number of potential resurrector’s offer to help the downed/dead user, a message is displayed on the NS screen that other users are inbound and that their diligence is appreciated nevertheless. This would act to cancel their offer to assist, not that they are any obligation (other than moral) to assist anyway. This would act to save potential resurrector’s from running halfway across a region or teleporting to the nearest free WP to assist.

Assisting Downed Players (suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

Exactly, this is what I meant. In regards to trolling – we’re never going to prevent that, but if somebody put a message on my screen “Arcos Shiningpaw is coming to assist you!” I would save myself the teleport fee and frankly would welcome the assistance. It would apply only to actual users, not NPC’s.

And regarding the timing, I think we can assume that if they are not there in sixty seconds, they’re never coming and since the person’s name is displayed – well, we would identify ‘spoofers’ pretty quickly, wouldn’t we? In high risk zones a rescue may never come because the other player has themselves come to grief, or logged out but such things happen. It’s all a matter of percentage, weights and measures and this would be reflected on the downed parties screen with messages like “Arcos Shiningpaw has been downed” or has logged out or a message to reflect the situation. If a user for example leaves the region, it’s a fair bet they’re not coming and a message to that effect is generated informing the wounded/downed party.

Far too often (when I was a noob) I simply lay there waiting for a rescue which would never come and had to spend my money teleporting to the nearest WP. I appreciate that this will be seen by some as a means to save money but that’s part of it (but I hope there is a nobler sentiment at work). In helping a player (especially the higher level ones whose teleport fees are rather high relative to the distance – in some instances it costs 2s just to travel ten feet!) you are in fact benefiting both them and you for there may well be a enemy nearby which you can enter into combat with, or who you can defeat to assist the downed player. Either way, its a win-win situation. Opinions please and thank you for replying to the original post.

Assisting Downed Players (suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belenus.9132

Belenus.9132

I make it my business to ‘rescue’ and assist downed players and in some instances they teleport out because they do not realize that somebody is on the way. I believe it would be a good idea to add to the game by allowing players to click on the downed player icon notification (downed/dead) to open a channel which automatically sends a “<user name> is on their way to assist or rescue you!” message. This way the intercepting player will not have to stop to write a message (even when auto-running) and the downed player knows that somebody cares sufficiently to hold their ground and save themselves a teleport fee.

The secondary advantage of this is that the downed player knows that help is on the way and that allies will be joining them to continue the battle.

It is my habit during intense combat situations to collect loot from corpses, while still fighting in case I drop and nobody is there to help me up. However, when other players are there, or fallen NPCs my pressing the F key to loot will often animate me to resurrect them, which leaves me open to attack – and sometimes if I am not quick to break out of it, that is exactly what happens. Can we perhaps have an option that if the system determines two quick F taps in quick succession that it will switch to the resurrection animation only if it is valid?

I’m aware that I can option the auto-looting but prefer not too.

Seraph Observers Waypoint, Brisban Wildlands: I’m there at the moment, 15;06 hours GMT with a party of players and we have been killing bandits non-stop for an hour now with no letting up. Is this a bug? They keep spawning, we keep killing them and yet nothing seems to be accomplished by this. Can someone let me know if that is normal.

Beetletun missing Charr Propaganda

I’m currently doing the heart in Beetletun on a new character and I am searching out the painted charr propaganda wall dabs (hidden child and wasps nests). The erase command associated with them is there, but the actual texture seems to be missing. You may want to look into this. If it was not for the fact that I know where they all are (as I committed the locations to memory) I could not find them to erase them.
