I happen to have two mini’s (and this is intentional) and both were put into the bank a while back. Now when I look up the mini to use it, ‘2’ is displayed on the icon, but when I want to use that mini, I drag that icon out and activate it. It still reads ‘2’ even although technically one is in use – clearly this needs to be addressed, so that when one is dragged out of inventory, one (or more) in that stack remains behind so it can be sent to the inventory of another character a user may have created.
enigma.4873, I like the way you think and cuss. Nice to know other people feel the same way I do. Thank you – as I’ve said elsewhere in the forums, I have major issue with the updates, more so (in my case, at this time) with the Black Lion trading post which is no longer fit for purpose.
Sure, it LOOKS good but that’s about it. I spend a lot of my time simply running around the map seeking out ore, wood, plants and taking down pretty much anything that happens to stray into my path, or which seems worth fighting. Sadly, the new interface is poorly executed. With the old one, I knew with absolute conviction that crafting materials and salvage could be sold ‘lowest’ to make the best profits and that weapons and armor had to be sold ‘highest’ to guarantee a quick sale, although not always the most profitable … and now all of that is gone and the new system is both confusing and repetitive to an insane degree.
Say for example that I have 200 slots to sell from, I now have to click and execute a sales process on each and every one … one at a time … over and over and over again and that is simply unacceptable. I’ve explained elsewhere (if the moderators want to find it) how best to streamline the process to take all of that out of it but that is my main complaint about the new system. It looks good … and that’s about all that I can say about it as everything else is just a big box full of kittens.
I did something today that I’ve never done before just out of sheer frustration. I sold 200 slots worth of loot straight to a NPC VENDOR rather than use the stupid overly complicated and confusing trading post. This has RUINED a major part of my gaming experience and I’m not alone in this opinion from the chat that has been going around.
Well, CuteLilKittenHugz.2064 asked me to post here so here is my 8-bits worth. Provide a trading GUI that allows us to choose items to be sold simply by clicking on them and which if multiple clicks are executed compiles a list of items we wish to sell.
It should also have a ‘global’ feature so we can click a single box, or highlight and collect (like in an OS GUI) to select multiple objects. When said listing is ready, it should be displayed for review with a box (checked) next to each item, and beside that the number of items in that slot – which can be altered manually or left on the maximum default available . A third row may offer the option of selling lowest or highest simply by clicking on a UP or DOWN arrow. If you wish for example not to sell that item, simply de-select the checked box without distrupting the listing. The user can then choose to sell everything automatically with the push of a single button – and THAT would work for me. At the moment when I clear inventory it can take anything from five to fifteen minutes, yet can be accomplished in seconds if done as suggested above.
Something else – from time to time I give people materials, because I’m just a generous sorta guy … but it proves to be very difficult to give somebody some iron ore (for example) if I have say, forty ore and want to give them ten as there is no way of sub-dividing that ore, or any other item when there is more than one of that item. I propose that an inventory slot have the option when clicked on to allow a user to enter a number and then transfer a number of units to another available slot or to a message to another person (which would be the main usage).
My final suggestion relates more to transport than anything else. As you know when you get to the higher levels, teleportation costs some serious money so I propose that we be offered beasts of burden that we can keep, rez as needed and put away and which would act much as pets do yet can be RIDDEN. These would travel (when ridden) at three times the maximum speed of a running character class. It would be a fun way of getting around and would save the hardcore explorers a lot of cash and time. I often run across Tyria rather than use teleports so why has ArenaNET not yet given us mounts? I’ve been asking for them since the opening week in 2012.
I noticed the same thing. I sell something, it’s SOLD – I do not want to be staring at say, some strawberries, that I sold three days ago. WHY am I looking at stuff that is no longer my property? Is no longer of any interest to me? Which I have been paid for, and therefore is void. I’ve said it elsewhere and I’m saying it here too – I HATE the new trading post, it is in the rather colorful language permitted by ArenaNET, a whole box full of kittens.
Sadly I agree with the original poster but also know (having worked the commercial sector) that voting with your wallet is a futile task at best as you have already paid for the game in the form of a download or a DVD. This said, I am ‘this close’ to doing the same thing and I consider myself pretty fanatical about GW2. At 47 I’ve been playing games, semi-professionally, sometimes as a beta-tester since the Eighties and have in that time written manuals, guides and reviews; and sadly recently changes to Guild Wars 2 have left me wanting – as in more.
If you take a look at the world map you’ll notice that roughly half of it has been filled-out by explorable regions and the other has not. Sure, it takes time to create a region and to populate it with content. Then there is the matter of putting in NPC’s and instances but it’s time that ArenaNET began adding features that enhanced the game playing experience. Off of the top of my head I can think of beasts of burden that we can ride, of residential areas we can rent and call home and which we can furnish and of markets where the player sells their wares. How about skyships that we can operate and engage in combat with? How about areas where battles are taking place and we can join in? C’mon ArenaNET you have the technology – give us something EXCITING!
Having played since 2012 it took me about eight months to explore every region, every feature and to do everything worth doing … and now the thrill is gone. All that is left to me is the fun of collecting and selling materials, but that was TAKEN AWAY from me when this update took place as I now feel the new Black Lion interface is not fit for purpose, is confusing and frankly is poorly designed.
Agreed on the original post. I run the Tyria Assistance Guild (TAG) and it’s my personal mission in life to help newbies to understand and to enjoy the game and to get the best experience they can out of it; and to do this I have one of each class and a couple the ones that I like and all of them are 80’s. My point? The point is, today I decided to rough it and start over with a new character and it quickly became apparent to me, a veteran and experienced player (from 2012) that it was a definite struggle. Now, if I think that, what can the noobs think? It does not bode well for any game to have players stuck in low-level regions because to try combat in higher level ones would mean their being wiped out to much more easily but that is just the tip of the iceberg.
When DRY TOP was introduced I thought to myself, “hey, some new content! Great, at least I get to do something I have not done at least a thousand times before,” but sadly Dry Top proved to have a very limited appeal. It would have been better to have utilized it as say a PvP map.
There’s more to gaming then just the stuff you’ve mentioned here. Me, an old OLD timer who was playing ELITE, the world’s first space combat and trading game on an old BBC Microcomputer back in 1984 and they are soon to release ELITE: Dangerous.
I’ll be playing that, but I’ll also be playing Guild Wars 2 because despite my intense dislike of the new Black Lion system (it stinks) I am above all else LOYAL and believe that GW2 has given me a lot of pleasure since 2012. Truth is I have games that I go back too and play over and over again but there aren’t many of them. GW2 is a game that I recommend to others, and **** have even purchased a copy of DVD releases for others to play – it’s that good.
Given my loyalty (and the loyalty of other people who have been playing as long as I have), it’s time that ArenaNET appreciated that and actually listened to us when we say ‘’if it ain’t broken – don’t fix it.’’
Agreed on all points, and yes I dislike change but the thing that’s really eating me is the fact that I have to gibbon around clicking on each and every item to sell them! I know, I know, it’s whining (so forgive me for it) but what the interface needs at the very least is an option to SELECT ALL at once and then the user can scroll back and forth through it and de-select anything that may not be suitable or is undesirable to sell and then a MASS SELLING takes place. That would definitely be appreciated. I spent way too much of my online gaming time in GW2 selling when I would rather be out there taking out the bad guys, dagnabbit – hope that didn’t get ’’kittened’’.
I tried to step through the Bloodtide Coast portal (south Lion’s Arch) today and got locked into an endless loading screen for that region. After three or four minutes, my screen cleared and reported Code 7:11:3:191:101 yet there is nothing wrong with my connection and another avatar which is presently in Divinity’s Reach is fine. I sent another avatar into Bloodtide Coast, this time via a direct teleport and lost it too. Same result, the loading screen and an endless cycle but no destination reached and now both avatars are effectively unreachable until such time that the glitch or problem is resolved. Anyone know what is going on?
Repeated attempts to get access to the two missing toons led to my watching the loading screen and the loader rotating without getting me anywhere. No icons, no nothing. Obviously I’m not about to send more of my toons that way until the issue is resolved.
Regarding noting the names of other players, I suggest you do what I do and have BEEPA FRAPS running in the background all the time. At the first sign of trouble, hit the record video key and dumpout to AVI on your HDD or another key and get screen captures of their names or dialogue. The point is, with so many third-party software items out there, you no longer need to worry about writing down anything.
I have had similar experiences, and one of my pet peeves is when the sales system in the Black Lion refuses to sell an item for much the same reason. They need to fix the software to prevent such things.
Well, I log in and immediately go to any of the noob areas and wander around. When I find somebody who is obviously green I track them for a bit and then offer assistance. If they want it, that’s great – if they do not, I respect that and move on. But I act to help them with any questions, assist with kills, tell them how to make money, and of course impart lore as I believe that when you are playing the role you ought too, in character, at all times. When I’m not helping others I’m off collecting or may take in a bit of high-level hunting in Orr or Southsun Cove.
I established I Tyria Assistance Guild (TAG) after early game experiences in which I found it hard to beat certain enemies, finish certain challenges. At the time I recall thinking that it would have been nice if somebody came along and offered free of charge to help me out and well, that’s what I do now. All that I ever expect of anyone I assist is that they recognize that and that they at least type TY.
The purpose of the TAG is to wander all over Tyria and to assist those who are in trouble, to help those who look as if they need it and where possible to tell new players how things work, shortcuts, lore, show them the best grounds for what they want such as collecting, hunting et al and to act as bodyguards as they experience Tyria at a pace that they are not normally used too. I often work with a newbie, showing them around, teaching them things and then when they have shown sufficient proficiency suggest they take over and pass on that knowledge. We are in essence ‘knights-errant’ who have no master and who act for good when and where we are needed. We do not need an invite to dive into battle and we are first to heal those who are wounded or are down. We see helping others in Tyria as our duty and we enjoy doing it. If anyone is interested in joining, just contact me – thank you.
Can tell you that Norton Antivirus is fine with updates. I’ve been using the 360 product for years and have never once had it interfere with or block, delete or isolate any GW2 related updates or media.
I happen to prefer to Ranger class and as such play on multiple rangers for this reason. I’m unsure as to how long the ’’swoop’’ bug has been in game, but many is the time that I have had other players (especially noobs) asking me what I am doing with a bird stuck in my head – only for me to explain that it is a known glitch. Your right of course, it needs to be addressed, as does the shark attack option (forget which character) that shows a person with a ghostly shark in the middle after the attack has been used – and that includes on land as well (after coming out of the water)!
I’m glad you brought this up … I have just come from Queensdale, having been disconnected about nine times in a row – and each and every time that I reclogged found myself back where I was. Whatever is happening, it’s been happening since that update we just had (time now 17:37 GMT). I finally managed to teleport to Lion’s Arch and then logged out but are now reluctant to log back in again as constant disconnects is basically going to prevent me getting anywhere. As a point, and to prove it, I videoed my experience in-world, showing that I had collected nineteen copper only to show it down to three copper after EVERY disconnect. Clearly something has to be done, and let’s hope it’s SOON.
Elitism, yes, I’ve noticed such things … and sadly that is a product of an all-too-human ego. To me it is the DUTY of those who have game experience and who know the game, know the maps and know what is what in Guild Wars 2 to spend time and expend effort helping new players and those who have questions about what to do and where to do it. I spend a lot of my time in newbie areas helping others. I DO NOT try to recruit people into my small guild, nor do I provide them with disinformation. I just answer their questions and I show them around and believe it or not get enormous pleasure out of seeing them enjoying themselves! To me the best reward is one which gives others pleasure. Yesterday for example I spent thirty minutes explaining to a small group of noobs that there was more than one lvl 1-15 region which they could hone their skills in and then took them on a tour of the regions. I accomplished more in thirty minutes than they had in three hours of playing and it is my belief that now that Tyria has been opened up to them they will go on to really enjoy it!
I’m sure there are still a few people out there who are still a bit confused about the new transformation system, so my post intends to make it both easy to understand and to deal with an additional issue that has come to my attention this morning. The following is intended for newbies, as I’m sure experienced Guild Wars 2 players already know this. In the past if you came into possession of a piece of armor or a weapon which had better stats and a higher defense rating than the one you were currently equipped with a player could purchase a yellow transformation stone and would use it to merge two items (of the same type with different appearances) so that one item’s appearance could be merged with the superior stats of the other. Under the new system, the way in which this is done has changed and is much simpler.
Now if you have a item with superior stats you must do the following:
(a) Make sure that the item that you wish to use the APPEARANCE of has had the skin unlocked. To do this, click on that item and see if the option for unlocking the skin has been grayed out. If it has, the skin has already been added to your skins library. If it is in white, you can click on it and unlock that skin, but in doing so the item that has the skin applied to it will be account bound to your account (meaning that only you can use it). Once the skin has been unlocked, we can proceed.
(b) Open the HERO panel and go to the appropriate armor or weapons slot and clicking on that item with the right-mouse key, select from the menu that appears the item you wish to upgrade the appearance of. Do not worry at the moment that the appearance of that item is unsuitable, as we will adjust this in a moment.
© Now select from the available options from the top-left of the HERO screen (equipment, wardrobe, dyes) the one you wish to update from. If you wish to change the appearance of armor, select wardrobe. If you wish to change the appearance of a weapon, select equipment.
(d) Now left-mouse click on any piece of currently equipped armor/weapon (depending on the choice you made earlier) and every other compatible skin for that item will be shown in a window to the immediate left within the HERO panel. To choice a new appearance for armor or weapons, simply left-click on any item in that window and it’s skin will be previewed on your character. If the change in appearance appeals to you, simply use the dialogue window which appears on the right which reads, “These changes will cost # transmutation charges.” You have the option of choosing to comply APPLY or RESET.
You may also receive a message informing you that you do not have sufficient transmutations. In order to change the appearance of any item, you must purchase transmutation stones (the yellow ones). Once purchased, double-click on them until they are added to your account as ‘credit’. Once you have pressed APPLY the selected armor or weapon will take on the look of the skin you have chosen. To finalize it, simply close the window.

I noticed while clearing out my bank deposit slots today that I had several ORPHANED items. These were previously soulbound items or armor or weapons which belonged to now deleted characters. It is my suggestion that ArenaNET change the game so that any items which were previously soulbound and which were placed in the bank automatically be converted to account bound so they can be used by other characters in your possession.
I quite agree LeviQuiteQuirky.6892 … clearly the inventory menu needs a major rethink. I am pretty intuitive and I found it clumsy and inefficient. What ArenaNET need to do is establish a page that explains everything in plain English and which is easy to index search as I’ve been hearing nothing but complaints since the new patch was added yesterday.
Just wanted to say that you put the situation well, BloodFallsSilent.1703. I’m an old player too – having played the world’s first ever 3D sandbox game (a space combat and trading simulator called —-- E L I T E —--) on a BBC Microcomputer no less! And I expect a lot out of games. I will admit to playing a couple of other games, but Guild Wars 2 keeps me coming back, but just recently the content, the things to do, the places – done it all, seen it all, been it all – so what’s next? I expected ArenaNET to release new maps, so we would have new places to explore, but no, all they have done is re-hashed existing ones; making them over into combat zones. When I brought the game it was with the understanding that they would open the world map out with a new region or two being released a year at a time, so we would have more places to have fun in. Clearly this is not the case and now I am growing tired of waiting. As a hardcore player, who often puts in sixteen hour days in here, I want to know why more content is not being developed and added? Given the staff that I am sure ArenaNET have, why we have yet to see the Dominion of Winds or the Crystal Design or a return to places which appeared in the original Guild Wars?
Thank you all for the above – it was interesting reading through the replies. Whatever happens it has to happen soon. I wander around the world map and hear NPCs still commenting on how great Lion’s Arch is (and how it’s now full of Charr!!) and of course because it is fixed dialogue it’s clear that news of the city’s fall has yet to reach places like Queensdale … anyway, I still like my Venice-like approach, but also approve of the one in which the city is re-built as a work of art with layers upon layers of crafted buildings so it has a METROPOLITIAN feel about it, representing the various races of Tyria.
One more thing, and this is merely an aside. I notice that at least one of the jumping puzzles that I used to enjoy in Lion’s Arch is now near-impossible. No, not the one which used to run under the Black Lion (that was always hard to do) but the cave mouth that leads into Sharkmaw Caverns. It is now impossible to slide down into the cave without being killed on any attempt on any race – I know, I’ve tried! So clearly Sharkmaw Caverns are now impossible to enter, unless somebody else knows a way to make it possible to get in once more, alive?
Well, I’ll admit that does bug me too so I simply copied my CD’s to my MP3 player and now mute the in-game music and play my own selection, which best matches my mood and the location I’m fighting in and exploring.
Now, I like Lightlord.4752’s suggestion, but how would be implement this? And more to the point, how would one version of LA be presented over all of the servers given it was a resident manufactured effort – unless it was provided to us as plans and we voted on which version would best work for any given district.
I know this post is about five-slot-bags, and forgive me for adding my two cents worth, but why can’t vets hang around starter zones? I have a number of lv 80’s and I spend a lot of time in starter zones. Why? Well, I run something called the Tyria Assistance Guild (TAG) and I and others like me run around these zones looking for people are having problems taking down a champion, or need assistance with a challenge or simply have questions about what to do, how to do it and the usual stuff newbies have to ask. Most of my friends list is composed of ‘newbies’ (now established vets in their own right) but at one time I would have been very happy to see somebody come racing to my rescue or to offer good advice – asking no reward for their time or their efforts. In fact now, I absolutely enjoy helping others and recommend existing vets do the same (afterall, after reaching lvl and having done it all, seen it all, what else is left?)
I’m sure this has been covered already, and if this is the case, forgive me. But re: 25. Option to change “hold right key for camera” into “click right key to toggle camera usage” (I’m running with right key pressed 90% of time). — did it not occur to you at all to use the autorun feature? On my machine it is keyed to R and remains running (or swimming) in the direction you are facing unless you happen to change course or wish to stop. Very handy for crossing vast areas of land or water.
My biggest fear? Being teleported into a dungeon full of champions and constructed so that it forms a funky multi-layered jumping puzzle, with ledges on which are located weapons which can take out a champ with a little determination … however, it is surviving the maze (jp) and the champs on your own which would make it nightmarish. I’m sure some of the more extreme plays would love something like this.
An OPEN LETTER to ArenaNET.
I realize of course that the living world storyline is something that is being played out for our benefit in real-time, and that world events are governed by it, but I write to ask if there is any intention of re-building Lion’s Arch, returning it to it’s former glory? This commentary has also been posed in order to put forward some ideas for ArenaNET. Perhaps you would not mind entertaining some ideas from the community?
How about a open world COMPETITION over all of the servers, inviting residents to provide a proposed street-plan for he re-envisioned Lion’s Arch.
If I were re-designing Lion’s Arch, I would create a Venice-like system of piled streets with wooden and stone buildings located in the middle of what is presently Sanctum Harbor and stretching out in all directions, with walkways going north to Western Ward and the destroyed docks there; south to the wreckage of the original lighthouse. East to Fort Marriner and cutting off sharply and forming a new waterfront and dock to the west forming a new ‘mouth’ to the harbor. The piles would be high enough to allow smaller vessels to go beneath them, and would take into account the wreckage in the water and the original ruins of Lion’s Arch. A large channel would also be located between the city to allow the passage of larger sea-going vessels, with bridges here and there to allow movement between different sides of that channel.
Given the proximity of the Tengu, it is logical to create a new trading district and market in the bay which lays immediately to the east of White Crane Terrace, and this in part would be on piles and on the beach front there, dominated by the memorial and statue of the seaman. The Bank and the Black Lion trading house could be re-built, as could the statue of the Lion which now lays ruined in the Grand Piazza, and the bridge which lays between that and the fort repaired and put back into use, effectively hanging over the re-build city now lying in the harbor.
The northern potion of Lion’s Arch, where the market used to be could be given over to new residential housing and Eastern Ward designated the new Asura Gate Complex location after demolition and remodeling. This brings me to the Inner Harbor, which I feel ought to be swept clean of debris and new harbor walls built, onto which would be located shops, warehouses for goods and docks for the larger vessels. Now that the ship-bridge has been demolished, the docks can be located there and go as far east as Postern Ward. The Asura can open the Gendarran Fields pass there once more as well. Farshore Ward would be given over to crops once more, and even extended up into Postern Ward, and the Asura Gate which was installed to allow access to Lornar’s Pass during the occupation be removed and replaced with a ‘pass’ which could be blown through the rock so that it provides easy access to the pass itself from and to Lion’s Arch.
To the south of Inner Harbor lays the remains of the Bloodcoast Ward road and Fort Marriner. I propose the fort be re-built and a permanent balloon station be added with two balloons (purpose to be decided as needed) and additional docks be installed, along with housing and storage with a custom-built arena for events behind it back against the cliffs. As an aside, perhaps the re-modeled Lion’s Arch might reflect the styles of it’s residents by putting in distinct Asura, Norn, Charr, Human, with a hint of Sylvari infulence as I’m sure the general lack of vegetation would not really appeal to them, except in the case of traders who might be selling organic wares.
Anyway, that’s my proposal – I’m sure ArenaNET already has plans for Lion’s Arch, but hey, this is a living world and as a resident I thought it might be fun to put in my two bronze coins worth!
Belenus.9132 (Arcos Shiningpaw, Maguuma)
Thank you, Vol.7601, and indeed that is what happened. In my case I approached the fallen machine and ran up it without any issue (do not try running up the sword) and got to the flat surface immediately below the pommel. I then began hammering on my SPACE BAR to launch me in the direction of the curved upper side of the pommel guard without success – the Charr simply could not reach it – and relocated myself numerous times to try the best angle and distance. I got absolutely nowhere. I eventually managed to do it on what was probably the 50th-60th attempt (I’m counting all them jump attempts) which is insane! Those of you interested will be pleased to know that once you have got there you can gingerly nudge/walk over to the grip and carefully proceed up it and see the vista. I’ll be honest, that bugged the (CENSORED) out of me and I have a lot of patience! This does not detract from the fact as posted in my opening comment that if it can drive people who are experienced crazy, I wonder what it is doing for the morale of newbies!
Thank you Vol.7601 for posting the video, but I wish to inform you that I tried that, I tried just about every move a Charr is capable of and still could not make it. Sometimes (when I was lucky) I leapt clean over the top of the hilt but most of the time I just kept “running on the spot” so to speak as the window of insertion is so small as to put the percentages of landing on the right spot very small indeed.
Curiously I’m having problems with vistas … yes, that’s right – you heard me right. I’m an experienced player with more than five thousand hard-earned points. In simpler terms, I’ve done it all, seen it all and pretty much ace the requirements for playing Guild Wars 2 but just recently I’ve noticed that some of the vistas, especially a couple in Lion’s Arch (the one where trader’s forum used to be) and in Lornar’s Pass (false river valley specifically) are near impossible to reach no matter how I try.
I’m expecting a few of you to reply with “you’re not trying hard enough” or “you give up too easily” and I wish that was the case but the truth of the matter is, there are no readily available surfaces from which to launch oneself in the case of Lion’s Arch (and I have not worked out how to fly yet – joke) and in Lornar’s Pass I can reach the bit right beneath the hand-guard on the sword but can proceed no closer and in both instances I’m playing as my favorite race; the Charr.
The point is, ARENANET DESIGNERS I’ve stopped enjoying the game! God only knows what the newbies think, for it can be amazingly frustrating when you cannot get that last vista or reach it because it is simply unreachable! I’m interested in knowing if anyone else has experienced this, and one more thing – if anyone knows the jumping puzzle to the south of Cereboth Canyon in Kessex Hills (I know how to do this puzzle and get the chest) I have no idea how to get at the ore as there ONCE AGAIN does not seem to be any means wherein I can get up high enough to reach it (that I can see or find).
Yes, pretty much – I for example want to get specific items but often on engaging an enemy in the hopes of obtaining them fail to receive the items I need. The knife idea certainly sounds like a good one – and yes, if equipped would sort of ‘guarantee’ that the user was trying or looking to obtain pelts and the like. An excellent re-direction there, Kal Spiro.
When attacking certain types of enemies, say in this instance Wolves, successful combat sometimes rewards us with the picking up of ‘tattered hides’ ‘ripped hides’ ‘torn hides’ etc. but we obviously seldom know what we are going to receive – if anything at all. Well, it occurred to me that it might make the game just that little bit more interesting if on approaching a den of Wolves (or any other enemy) for example, a message window popped up on the screen showing several icons (potential rewards) which could be culled from a specific enemy. We could then enter into combat specifically to seek out a given resource (much as we would if we went to a specific place to collect ore, plants, timber). Any successful combat which took place would perhaps provide us with the ‘chosen’ outcome, a ‘hide’ of some description or obviously ‘none’ if the system deemed the corpse hacked up so badly that salvage was impractical. The only downside of this idea is that it would effectively put a message on the screen over any action (unless the message was in a corner, so it did not obscure the view) and that it might ‘slow down’ the action. This ‘selective looting’ might be added to the game as a toggle option for advanced users who wish to use it but which is initially deselected for newbies.
No offense taken Caedmon.6798 (why would I take offense? You assume that I made the same decisions as you did in searching, which clearly I did not, so my being offended is illogical. Fascinating.) This business with the drivers had occurred to me and Nvidia is notorious at times. I hate changing drivers as they often make issues worse. In one instance recently it caused one game which used to play perfectly fine to cease displaying altogether which made debugging very difficult. Thanks for the suggestion – and in posting it you have potentially assisted other residents as well.

I went down to Southsun Cove yesterday … they’ve made quite a few changes there. But the upside is that it was now swarming with residents and they were taking down the Tarkas ten or more at a time, and then moving on to the next one! It was Tarka Farming Time! The moral here is, do not enter into an kitten kicking contest if you are without some serious backup. As for that temple that keeps firing on you, I suggest you look for an alternative method of approaching it or as suggested above go to it in numbers, say ten or more residents. That way everyone get a bite of the cake. But remember, it is not a one-man-show and taking advantage of the enemy being engage in masse by your comrades to have a sneaky run for the challenge/communion is really not on. I frown on such residents and often leave them to their own devices. You either learn to fight AS A UNIT and help one another or you’re simply a burden to others (this is a general comment aimed at nobody in particular, but if this is how you gain such things, shame on you!)
Thank you Meluna.1764, I’ll do that. As strange as it sounds and in light of the fact that I cannot video record the effect to demonstrate it I’m wondering now if it may have something to do with how my hardware is displaying. If I switch on video recording the effect ceases to appear, but the moment I turn it off, BLING it’s back.
A repair was run, there is nothing untoward about the graphics settngs (double checked) and it yet happens. I’ve considered the possibility of a graphics driver issue and upgraded and still … well you guessed the rest. I suspect it is indeed time to report it.
(20 hours later) The problem persists and it definitely seems to be a post-process effect related to items which can be destroyed/rebuilt or affected by environmental changes. I also noticed that when I run Beepa FRAPS (I do this routinely to screen capture video and screen images on demand) in video record mode the glowing effect does not appear, yet when I do not record the effect does appear. I honestly do not know how to qualify that one, but it certainly interesting nevertheless.

I agree that Orr is tough but it can be done. I regularly wander around there as a Level 80 Ranger and I’ll not kid you, the locals can be irritating but they can be beaten. The best way to beat them is to take a leaf out of The Art of War and not to confront them directly when approaching temples for that all important challenge or POI. I have successfully entered such areas and managed to get such things by avoiding combat and using stealth. I even run errands for other players (Tyria Assistance Guild [TAG]) to help other players finish the region. It might be best to reconsider your approach AlecJPate.4605 as sometimes the best way to win is not to engage in battle at all. This said, if and when I do have to engage in battle I let them have it – maximum ferocity and know when you’re outclassed. That is why I NEVER engage Champions, but vets (even in Orr) I have for breakfast.
And here is an additional shot, just taken in Gendarran Fields (immediately to the north of Lion’s Arch) and another taken in Queensdale. In the first image you can clearly see the base of these huts glowing. The glow seems to come and go, but it is predominately ‘on’ when approaching them or looking at them. Even when they are not centered in the image (not targeted) they seem to be glowing. The other image is of hay bales which can be set on fire during an event lending some credibility to the idea that these items are post-effect glitches.
There happens to be an exit which you can swim into which takes you to a neighboring region and which comes out in an underground cavern. The gate in question is in the southern end of the lake in Lornar’s Pass, so one of these does in fact exist.
As requested this is a screen capture of the issue I mentioned earlier (one-half my native screen resolution). Nothing has been changed in regards to my graphics settings since the game was installed last year and nothing seems to be out of place yet this keeps happening. Unfortunately you cannot see it here but that bridge is so bright it is like staring into the sun.
I’ll get back to you on that soon Meluna.1764 as I have to go do real world stuff. But will sort out a screen capture of the issue and post it here once I work out how. Thanks for the reply.
Omaris Mortuus Est.2738 makes a very valid point. I was recently assaulted by another player (I have no idea what class they were, probably mesmer judging from their tools) who managed to follow me around a region for about half an hour making my life an utter misery by casting right in my face (and of a colleague who also experienced the same with me) and who caused my character to repeatedly fly into the air. I had business to conduct so did not immediately teleport away, but this begs the question as to why the reporting system is such a shambles and why most people don’t bother using it. There is no option for reporting instances such as the above, and worse, opening the panel it warns you that you could be held libel for false reporting! So immediately the reporter is on the offensive and worrying about being blocked or banned for reporting the abuse of another person!
You would think that we could be given access to better muting features too, so once you have identified a griefer you can click on them, isolate them and nothing they do from that point on effects you. Even better fix it so that if they target you or come within range of you, they are automatically ejected a distance and cannot harm you. Perhaps if this happened the idiots might quickly get the message stop abusing the system and other players.
Why stop there Soul.9345? I mean why not create a Judge class as well? We can have heavily armed Charr or Norn patrolling the streets sitting astride of mighty reptiles, perhaps with a large studded club in one hand, a Asura made heavy rifle in the other and if they see crime they can break heads and bust perps to cries of “that’s seventy years creep!” and “Skritt burglar, eh? We’ve been after you for a while now, meathead.” Yes, introduce Judges (this is also humor, as in the movie DREDD). This said, I feel Guild Wars 2 is fine as it is, but the cities do have guard and it would be nice to see them conducting arrests once in a while.
I’ve just come from an exploratory mission in Lornar’s Pass (to see if any Molten Forces were still around) and having reached a stone bridge guarded by pirates at the end of the large lake in that area could not fail to notice that the entire structure is GLOWING a dazzling whitish color. Now, I’ve noticed this particular factor in other GW2 elements, ice, the bottom of buildings and outhouses, some trees … what is the point of that glowing effect ArenaNET staff? It only works to RUIN the visual impact of the game and frankly I found it extremely annoying. It is now effecting my game play guys – so what exactly is the point of that glow? I initially thought that it might have something to do with drawing the eye to the object so the player might give it some attention but then I revised that consideration when I realized that items which had no practical purpose other than as ‘dressing’ were also glowing and often made it impossible to enjoy the environment. Does anyone know what this is all about and can ArenaNET do something to put a stop to it?
LOL has it’s place, agreed. However and in defense of my own comment insisting on using letters instead of words is unacceptable to me. That’s all I’m going to add on the matter with the exception of this question: whatever happened to the point of the original posters argument? It seems to have been washed away in favor of repeating vast chunks of my commentary.
As to my work in the last thirty years a complete listing would probably cover six or seven pages. If you happen to be a developer you will quickly come to realize that individuals do not sit down and design computer games as they are often designed by a committee. I will say this though, I happened to be living in Texas in ’92 when J. Carmack (and his crew) was writing the original DOOM and although was aware of the project through contacts did not have any part in it.
The fact is Ema.4953 and others you will ALWAYS get those who whine on about ‘how lousy’ something or other is. Often they compound this whining by mentioning that another game system is better or that it has such an such an element which Guild Wars 2 should have. My immediate reaction to such people is to say that if they love those other games so much they ought to just [insert profanity here] and play them and leave Guild Wars 2 to the people who actually LOVE the way it works.
In reality I work in the business and have been both a game designer and player since the very early Eighties and as such feel that unless those posting such ‘suggestions’ can actually do better than the designers, programmers and all of the hundreds of people involved in creation, content and presentation that they ought NOT to post their grievances at all. I have no wish to hear about OTHER games! I’m here to PLAY and to enjoy Guild Wars 2. I will not even profane this commentary box with any other games title or content; that is how strong my feelings are on the subject.
What often tears it for me is how dumb these posters often are. I appreciate that not everyone has had an education but many of them cannot even use basic English (actually it has been my observation that non-English speakers often use better English than native speakers) and instead resort to that highly irritating and dumbed-down text-eze language so beloved of the cell phone generation. I flatly refuse to communicate with them, that is how irritating I find it to have to ‘translate’ their dribble (and in world often mute them rather than have to ‘listen’ to it).
There is an expression, ‘’pearls before swine’’ and it is very appropriate for these complainers and no-nothing’s in wanting to make Guild Wars a clone of other and lesser games are just without any appreciable imagination in my book.
Agreed. At the moment we can send other players money (as acts of assistance, favors, thanks or simply because they need it) but adding the option of transferring gemstones would certainly improve the game but not necessarily as a gift option. After all gemstones are merely another form of currency. The fact is with the exception of laurels or karma we ought to be able to freely exchange currencies. I also believe that the establishment of citizens enpowered as MONEY EXCHANGERS would work for you could approach them (without having to use the Black Lion) and hand them your currency and see what it can be converted into over the whole spectrum of currencies including the ones which are used for high level weapons and armor. I’m aware that the Black Lion offers a similar service and that subdivision of this may confuse many but to me an exchange would make things a lot simplier.
Agreed, something akin to the legend of Atlantis, but if you head down south to the Ruins of Orr much of what you find in Malchor’s Leap and even the Cursed Shore is hidden beneath the waters and it is there that much fighting is to be had with equally rich rewards jinxy.8457.
