You need to grind for ascended gear (or play REALLY LONG). It gives 5percent more statts and you need it for high lvl FOTM. There is REQUIRED grind. Just not so much.

Yes you need ascended for high level fractals. But you can still see everything from the fractals at lvl 1, and thus you don’t need Ascended to experience any content. And as you said yourself, you can get it, over time, without grinding, and thus it is not forced grind either way.

Yeah 4 years or something? :P

I am not just a casual player, I am frugal. While I’m not actively crafting Ascended Artificer weapons, they are currently available to me, and I’m only 25 Ratings away from Armorsmith.

Yeah, talking about a full gear set here.
Full light ascended armor is atm 500-600 gold. Thats is a lot of gold for a single set.

Just got to 500 Armorsmith, three Insignias crafted. Need fifteen more Damasks, which shouldn’t be a problem come this Tuesday.

No pressure to play. There are no things I “need” or would like to hammer out as soon as possible, nothing that requires my urgent attention or be forever lost.
It’s all I can do to keep myself from exploding with manic glee at the very idea of Legendary armor. Will they be profession-specific? Armor-specific? Compliment the weapons? Come from an additional, updated path in every dungeon (Story Mode 2)? I can wait.

Which MMO’s had an expansion that actually added to or polished the old world/vanilla? The MMO I spend most of my time on was WoW, and it only did that with Cata, and that took six years and a multi million/billion dollar budget to finally get too.

Even then, with the release of MoP, the newly revamped Azeroth got left behind just like everything else. Vanilla got left behind by BC, the Outland got left behind by WotLK, etc. etc. Those expansion areas are stuck in time content and design-wise, because they have served their purpose already, and their only function afterwards is to get players from lv.X to lv.Y, so they can move onto the newer content, and to possibly fill some time for achievement hunters to raise their score.

I always thought that was sad. Players are so addicted to expansions, because that’s the only thing that they really know when it comes to new content, and having to always explore new areas, that developers have to basically leave all the old content and areas to rot on the vine. It’s a huge waste of a large resource.

I can confirm that this is precisely half the reason I stopped playing World of Warcraft. Warhammer Online also suffered from this, but there were weekend events that gave bonus experiences for certain Scenerios, and I thought ‘why can’t they do that for PvE’. Then I moved to Guild Wars, which does that for PvE.

Take another look at the map of Tyria, be hyped for a new zone, don’t think about an expansion.
Why do you even want an expansion, what do you expect in it?

New Race or New Profession
Level up to 90
New 80-90 zones
New crafting material and Craft to 600
New features

Increased level cap? This game may not be for you.
Zones, crafting, and features can all be introduced without an “expansion”, it has already been done. Zones are, realistically, what we should be asking for, but I believe they’re not so hasty to introduce them as recycled maps.
For a new race or profession, I don’t believe you’d want them to just shove one in and expect you to believe they’d just always been there, like no big deal. They’d have to have their own Personal Story: Zhaitan is long dead and it’s clear the Risen threat was no significant factor to whatever race/profession is just now joining the cause. This requires a lot more thought and preparation than what seems to be the norm on this forum.

Heavy armour has a few options that look decent. Medium has 0 and Light has like 1 that looks pretty bad imo, not flattering at all.

Norn have a few more options aswell, especially for heavy armour, if you are into norn that is.

As things stand your best bet atm is to run a heavy armour class for that.
Medium tends to look somewhat similar on both sexes while light usually goes in opposites.
The more revealing the female outfit is the more paranoid they get about the male counterpart to cover every inch of flesh up.

Technically, the introduction of Labyrinthine Cliffs (the zone that’s a jumping puzzle) was my favorite. But what inspired awe was the Tower of Nightmare.
While in the Cliffs, there wasn’t much for me to do, but I refused to leave the area because the atmosphere was perfectly beautiful. The Tower of Nightmare was what I wanted for combat: a single zone dedicated to a gauntlet of varying enemies, peppered with micro-dungeons. Unfortunately, the Tower was easily corrupted by mob mentality.

A living world also implies mimicking what we know about how humans do things. Seeing as how LA is primarily a human location.

What do humans do after their town is demolished by a flood, hurricane, or tornado. Even after the tenth time?

Rebuild.

In the same place.

The idea that the populace would just abandon LA is preposterous and unbelievable IMO. Having a long term rebuilding process in place, with certain areas being focused on to be returned to usefulness, although preferably not to an identical state as before, would make sense and be interesting to observe along the way.

It’s not like the terrain of LA is uninhabitable, it’s just a mess. So, perhaps a rebuilding of key areas, and (at least for the foreseeable future) a wave of the hand to other areas leaving them to become wilderness, complete with mobs and such, would be an interesting approach.

Couldn’t say this better. +10

Firstly, Lion’s Arch needs to be re-built in some fashion.
Otherwise:
1] Much of the personal story makes no sense.
2] The LionGuard (which is present on multiple maps) makes no sense.
3] The most central map is not a hub.
4] There is no hub that is not associated with one of the races.

So it it should be re-built – slowly, and different, but re-built. I’d like to see the architectural styles of all the races combined, plus some pieces of Scarlet debris.

The Personal Story takes place before the Living Story. Your other points aren’t well worded to make sense to me.

And then give the players quests

Scarlet: “Oh noes! You beat me! I bet you’re wondering why I did it. I’ll tell you all about my motives in a monologue at the end of act three as all poorly written villains do…”

Braham: “NO! WE’RE NOT EVEN GONNA GIVE YOU THE CHANCE! WE’RE GONNA KILL YOU AND NEVER LET YOU EXPLAIN ANYTHING.”

Scarlet: “Um… Okay then.”

Player: unceremoniously plants a stick in Scarlet

After all, Arenanet can’t have Scarlet explaining something that they can’t even explain themselves…

You’re being pursued by people you have personally offended, part of you is elated that they’re so angry and can’t do anything to you. You imagine they’re absolutely frustrated with your activities, but surprised when they do corner you. You could buy time or savor their frustration by lengthily explaining your plot, basking in their awe at your glorious machinations.
You’re immediately informed they’re on their way to a dance recital and want to wrap this up.

Story was as cheesy as ever, i’d had preffered to see a Male gay romance just to see how much the general community would probably hate it, but a lesbian one was ofcourse a safer choice and therefore a new low.

I take it you’ve never played a Sylvari, or did you forget about the gay relationship in your Personal Story when you choose the Knight story?

(technically, the Sylvari are genderless, so gay or lesbian has no meaning to them. But you missed the uproar about it during the first few month in beta and release)

Honestly I don’t see the big deal. I kind of saw it coming and was actually hoping it would happen since Jory and Kas were first introduced. They just made a great couple. And I’m straight and it doesn’t bother me one bit. I mean, come on, you had to of seen it coming after reading all the story and hearing all their dialogue and witty banter back and forth throughout the whole season. It was right there and it was cute watching their relationship build throughout the whole story.

I’m not making a big deal out of it, i’m just pointing out its a low way to score points. I want to see the community react to a male on male relationship. And you’re right, none of my characters are sylvari (i just don’t dig them) and personal story even less since it was so abysmal.

You want to see the reaction, time-travel back to beta.

Now yes I know a few of you are gonna brag about your kitten Scarlets Kiss…if you do so here, kiss my kitten.
How many other think the loot sux? Would it be to much to ask to put a gold or couple in there, for those of us with lousy luck?

I was about to agree with you, before I realized the more meta bosses actually award a handful of Rares. I’d rather the meta bosses get a buff in loot, since Scarlet’s Prime Hologram isn’t difficult. Just demanding.

Sanctum of Rall provides very little in coordination, which causes some groups to layer on Conditions before the Assault Knight is vulnerable to them. But four out of five, we’ll destroy the Knights to gain access to the Breachmaker. And for two of the Assault Knights, we won’t have close to thirty people, but still shred it’s health.
If you’re unfortunate enough to be placed in a section of the Breachmaker with not-max players, you’re likely looking to waste thirty minutes, even though I’ve been in a section with max players who couldn’t seem to grasp the concept of coordination and failed.

I don’t think scaling is the problem, just some players not paying attention.

Talk to me again the moment when these events will start to drop ascended gear, instead of dropping hints of a chance at ascended gear. Because in the first few days they were still being done haven’t seen even a single ascended drop.

What else are you doing.

Not sure what do you mean by that question. Just in case, i will explain in detail what i meant:

If you are interested in ascended, doing miasma events is not the way you should go. The chances of getting an ascended gear drop from this event are so low, that it’s simply not cost effective. It’s way better to farm money/mats and craft them directly.

If you are interested in having enough money for your daily expenses, you should look for work, not for a casino.

Going to say here what I said in another thread.

As someone who is gay, I found the reveal a surprise, but ultimately, I am disappointed in it, though not nearly enough that it makes me change my mind about the game or anything. I’ll try to list my issues.

1) It makes Kasmeer into a Stereotypical Over-Emotional Woman trope. A lot of the female characters in GW2 are strong individuals with different traits, personalities, and so forth. A lot of the characters regardless of gender are like that. I think this is the first time a negative stereotype has been applicable to a character based on gender or orientation. Its disappointing.

2) A Video Game is not the right medium for that kind of a reveal. It felt forced into the cinematic for no reason. I’d rather have read about those two and their relationship, how it developed, grew, and so forth, in a novel or a short story, rather than having it sprung on me in the heat of battle. What could have been a really good story and reveal felt cheap and hollow.

Was it over-emotional of her to taunt Scarlet and use her illusions as a distraction in a maneuver for you to execute Scarlet yourself? Why does every woman have to be strong, it’s almost like a spit in the face to those that rely on their significant other. After what Kasmeer’s been through, I’d hate to see her lose someone again. It’d be a stereotype if everyone was “strong”, this game embraces diversity. One could interpret your complaint to be that Kasmeer represents all women, or that women are an organization and as a representative Kasmeer makes them look bad.

The kiss was a reveal? I felt like I was hit over the head with their relationship during Tower of Nightmare. I feel like the kiss was to solidify Jory and Kasmeer as “people”, not just tag-along NPCs.. and maybe to squash any lingering doubts about them.

Every woman does not have to be, ‘Strong.’ However, as I said, this is the first time I’ve seen a blatant, negative-gender-stereotype in the writing, and I was a little disappointed. Over-Emotional women tend to dominate most games and media. Look at Jaina Proudmoore’s recent portrayal in World of Warcraft, though to be honest, in that case I don’t mind as her outbursts are justified and don’t -define- how she acts and behaves. Kasmeer has always been a very bubbly and emotional person (so yes, the kiss is in line with her character), but now every time someone see’s her, they’re going to think she’s ruled by her emotions, even though that hasn’t been the case at any other point in her story.

It only takes -one- case to ruin a character. Honestly at this point I kind of hope Marjory and Kasmeer get to take a nice, long vacation and just disappear from the Living Story for a good long while or perhaps forever. Give them a house somewhere in Divinity’s Reach where players can talk to them, and update their dialogue for the new Living Story content so they can voice opinions or even give hints. They’re a nice couple, so its the least that can be done for them story-wise, to have their happily ever after.

I’m still not seeing this “stereotype” you’ve managed to identify, please be more specific.

The Stereotype that women are more prone to emotional outbursts, being ruled by their emotions, being unreasonable when they get emotional, etc… Come on, its a common stereotype in media and literature. I’m not saying women cannot have or portray emotion without succumbing to this, but when it gets extreme, it falls into a stereotype.

If you’d like to learn more, I suggest reading this page:
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/HystericalWoman

I think you’re confusing characters, we’re clearly not discussing the same parts of the game, and I don’t think Logan is a stereotype either. Or a woman.

The miasma events simply aren’t timed well with the main scarlet fight. If you’re trying to take down the Knights and Scarlet, there’s just no time to do the Miasmas. Even the various champions are difficult to do. That’s the main reason they’re not being completed.

They only last about nine or ten minutes, but even during Escape from Lion’s Arch they were seemingly difficult to coordinate.

Boneheart.3561

I like these types of Achievements, in fact I opened this thread because I thought it was a suggestion for a type of Achievement that explicitly encouraged coordination.
When I get credit for one, it feels like I contributed to a team effort and supported others.

You’re missing the point.

There’s nothing wrong with group coordination. It’s great and it’s a necessary part of the game in my opinion. When your group succeeds, you kill a boss and get loot. That’s the reward for working together.

But when you make something like achievements (and I’m talking specifically about the time-sensitive ones in living stories) based on the success of everyone around you, things are different. There are several problems with achievements that ride on the participation of others (as I mentioned earlier):

1. Some people don’t care for them so they won’t take the effort to do them. They just want loot so they’ll go around doing what benefits them more personally, than the entire group (eg now everyone just camps Blue Knight so they can at least tag a kill and get the reward, ignoring the other two that need help so people can kill them in <6 min).

2. Many people who have done them see no reason to put forth the effort in helping others do it because it was already a pain in the kitten the first time around. That, and when people finish achievements, they don’t typically return to the event unless there’s some sort of gain for them, which there is currently not. So you get the majority of the population who complete the achievements in a few days, and the rest of the people who didn’t have time during the week are left hanging because the groups aren’t large enough to do them near the end of the event.

I didn’t miss any point. I just typed I liked group-focused Achievements and mistakenly opened this thread. If anything you mention group coordination being necessary, then typed group coordination is a terrible idea.

Is the assault on Scarlet too exhaustive to leave enough focus on shutting down miasma?

Talk to me again the moment when these events will start to drop ascended gear, instead of dropping hints of a chance at ascended gear. Because in the first few days they were still being done haven’t seen even a single ascended drop.

What else are you doing.

Well I'm Gonna Miss Her....

CHALLENGE ACCEPTED!

Boneheart: I looked it up on Merriam Webster…

Race (noun)
1: a breeding stock of animals
2a: a family, tribe, people, or nation belonging to the same stock
2b: a class or kind of people unified by shared interests, habits, or characteristics

Species (noun)
biology – a group of animals or plants that are similar and can produce young animals or plants : a group of related animals or plants that is smaller than a genus; a particular group of things or people that belong together or have some shared quality

I’m not saying you’re wrong by looking it up, I just like posting definitions when someone says “look it up” :p

Good on you. I feel bad for thinking you might pick and choose, but that’s to be expected.

Well when we’re talking about race as it applies to humans it’s ethnic groups, but we’re all the same species.

When we’re talking race in a fantasy setting with multiple intelligent speaking species.. races mean different species, as in, they can’t breed.

Explain half-elves, please.

I was so relieved Jory was alive, the kiss didn’t even register until about two minutes later.
