You obviously don’t read the dialogue because it ends up with us discussing how we should talk to the Pale Tree.
One of the last things said in this chapter is, and I quote Kasmeer here, “if only I still had my family’s wealth, I could take her away from all this. Keep her safe. Give her the things she deserves.”
You realise that entire part of the dialogue can be skipped. In fact the dialogue trees give you a grand total of 4 options to skip the dialogue that so offends you. So you are basically getting upset that you have to read completely optional words that you specifically chose to read.
And all the instances you only have to sit through the Jory & Kas dialogue once now, when you redo it you can quit the instance as soon as you’ve done the achievements.
I noticed that! I saw it and thought ‘ha, those people got what they wanted’. But apparently that’s not enough.
Anet could seriously take some lessons from the folks who write the FF14 story. It’s still based around multiple characters along with your own but everything that happens in the plot is there because you made it happen. Not because you were standing there when it happened.
Pretty sure I killed that jotun king, flushed out that Risen Mesmer, and spearheaded the defense of those Priory wimps’ precious library.
And yet Zhaitan is dead because Trahearne put the pact together and Scarlet was defeated because a million bajillion heros fought her holograms and you happened to be the only person not grievously injured when her shield fails.
Your point was that ArenaNet doesn’t know how to focus on the player character, I disagreed. Examples of not being focused on to dispute examples of being focused on does not a dispute make.
The impression, and my preemptive thought, I took from the decision for Pact leader was that as a member of one Order you were open to suspicion of being influenced by that Order’s agenda. From Slayer of Issomir and Vigil recruit to Pact commander is a massive leap (if you could call being launched from a cannon a “leap”). Surely my legend (and NPC deaths) doesn’t stop at one of six Elder Dragons.
I don’t think Belinda was the one we were suppose to feel for.
Yeah, I agree with that.
Unfortunately Belinda was the one I felt the worse for. So young, so much potential for development and then wiped out as a plot point to make Jory and Kas go through angst.
I was expecting it to happen, but hoping to be wrong. If only to save Marjory any anguish.

I was excited for this episode, and got bashed for being excited for it during the first episode.
Eat it, doomsayers!
I remember making a Paragon/Elementalist and Paragon/Necromancer build, I was proud of them. Much rather have what this game offers, though, since Guild Wars felt restrictive. Since the community was dedicated to GWPvX like holy scripture, it was useless to have a build that performed both professions, as opposed to using one profession to empower the other. The only time I could use one of them was during a Vanquish and I wasn’t exactly thrilled to do those.
I’d rather not be distracted by Achievements while the story unravels. Even if they’re hidden, being able to achieve them on the first run will have me (and likely others) playing the guessing game rather than the story.
Oh look, this thread again.
If the Priory did, it should be shown.
Like when they told us they would be investigating Ceara’s leyline? Sending two humans and a hylek? That seems like a lot of discussion, I think even Redditors would be angry with pure discussion chapters.
Cause I mean, correct me if I’m wrong, but I seem to remember that the Elonian Centaurs were ENSLAVED by the Kournans, not persuaded to work under an alliance. In fact, Zhed Shadowhoof blackmails you into staging a prison break for his people and killing the slavemasters. They had a staunch resentment of “two legs” and it took that selfless act to get Zhed to trust you.
Is that what we’re calling slavery now? An “Alliance”? I bet a great many people would object to you referring to the Israelites in Egypt as “Allies”, or the African Americans of the pre-civil war South as “Allies” “convinced” to work under the whip.
This is a 2 fold offense. #1 it’s inaccurate to GW1 events, #2, it’s rather discouraging about how you view a portrayal of slavery in a game.
Shut up, two-legs.
Sigh. I was a bit surprised at first, since I expected them to just have her killed off right away instead of just at the end if they were going to do that. Then I just felt like “Why?”
I mean, did they really feel obligated to kill somebody off for no good reason?
This is even worse than the rampant deaths in the Personal Story, where characters at least got interesting or had some potential before getting killed off, or at least went down fighting to save others (Forgal/Sieran/Tybalt, rest in peace). Belinda didn’t even get to that point.
After the intial surprise wore off, I was just left with a “Meh” feeling. Oh well.
I don’t think Belinda was the one we were suppose to feel for.
Legendaries have gotten significantly more difficult. People who got them last year only had to do about 1/20th of the work that has to be done now. Prices are up ten fold but gold generation and overall drops in game have been cut in half in even the best of circumstances. Not saying if that’s a good or bad thing, but the legendaries are as hard as they are right now because they should feel legendary doesn’t hold much weight for me, considering the majority of legendaries floating around were quite easily made compared to what people venturing out to get them now are faced with.
You need to PROVE all of the above….you stating it does NOT make it fact nor even close to ACTUAL truth. Your perception of how “easy” or “hard” something is or “was” is only “the TRUTH” in your own mind (and I will agree that is all that matters for YOU).
I hope I’m no the only one here that thinks the above quoted paragraph is pure delusional tripe and in fact mostly the direct OPPOSITE of the current status of the game.
The only thing that may be “harder” is obtaining the Precursor.
So because your opinion disagrees with his opinion you are stating yours is the actual truth, but still based on no facts. You are racking him/her for making an opinionated statement, but are actually doing the same thing…. ^^
What was Brother Grimm’s opinion?
It seems Brother Grimm is pointing out a fictitious statement. It’s not an opinion when it’s factually incorrect, especially when stated as fact (lacking ‘I feel’, ‘I think’, ‘maybe’, ‘perhaps’, et cetera). You cannot disagree with fiction, it’s just not fact.

I made 150g from Crown Pavilion, without selling Tier 6 crafting materials and keeping all the silk.
If I was determined to have the precursor I want immediately, without selling Ascended materials (because that would literally get me the money instantly), I would wait for an update. Most updates, ArenaNet seems anxious to just stuff gold in your (or at least my) pockets. Every time I think ‘whoa, this is an incredible amount of gold to make, they can’t possibly keep doing this with future updates’, they do. I would wait for an update, and just keep doing the open world content. I fall asleep whenever I attempt to farm, though.
… the wind jump and its own bugs.
You are so funny!
Sadly quantity is different in people’s perspective.
In the end no matter how big the content is people will still blaze through it and then start complaining again the content wasn’t big enough.
This is a rather typical response to these threads and I feel it misses the point completely. Yes, rushers would be done with the expansion in a few weeks. Why should we normal people care? Playing GW2 until it had very little content left took me over half a year and an expansion would probably occupy me for just as long. However, even for me, the new content in LS tends to take a day to complete. It’s a very small amount of content, unless you’re really fond of farming.
I don’t like that Episode 1, specifically, is being used as the standard for updates, when everyone, even the anti-ArenaNet players, recognizes that Dry Top is really small compared to past updates. But I would argue that it contains the same amount of content, just condensed/restricted to a small map. Dry Top lacks in chain Events, but there’s quite a variety for a Living Story map, they’re just quicker to get to.
So I returned to the game a couple months ago. I stopped after I became extremely frustrated trying to farm…
Therein lies your mistake.
… constructive…
You keep using that word…
maybe actual physical sex wasn’t necessary. Perhaps Mal had a heated dream and nine months later a bouncing baby god was born.
I would feel so cheated. No wonder he jumped.
That is the Necromonger way.
It is not ENOUGH!
If Malchor couldn’t look at the gods for too long without going blind, how did he bone Dwayna? Just wondering.
I don’t see how that is related. Blind people can have sex you know
I am almost certain that blind people can and do have sex.
I think he might be asking, that if looking at them makes you go blind, what happens during sex.
Ahem.
I already know this post isn’t gonna be constructive, giant red flag.
My recommendation is approach this game casually.
Proofread and condensed the advice for you, most of that was pretty confusing and incorrect.
Lazarus might also be the last Mursaat alive. If you’re the last of your kind, and revenge is all you have left, why NOT burn down the world around you as your funeral pyre?
They appear to be an immortal species, so he probably likes living. I know if I was immortal, I wouldn’t just burn everything around me as a last laugh, I want to laugh forever. Especially if I just had a sip of subservient, religious fanatics.
So, Lazarus has limited resources, a ton of time on his hands, and is extremely angry. Where would I hide?
I don’t understand how you can be surprised at the lack of new content. Since launch, content has been transient- impermanent. They’ve just developed the story journal so that people can access missed content, but it has required a massive overhaul with how the living story functions. So, stuff has happened since you’ve been gone, but most of it is no longer in the game. Nightmare tower, Marionette and defense of Lion’s Arch are all big events that have since gone away.
They implied having only been gone for six months, so I think they may have caught Marionette and Tower of Nightmares.
Video game. Not real life. Don’t take it so seriously.
I chuckle, because I wish the anti-KasmeerxMarjory crowd could be told this.
Assuming, for the moment, that Lazarus is still around- remember that we don’t even have a point of reference for a mursaat’s lifespan- then it might well be that he can’t phase out anymore. Remember, the whole reason that he swore revenge is that we managed to somehow turn his own power against him.
I read about that on the wiki, one of his portions of self was destroyed or somethin’. I imagine that would be detrimental to his power, but I didn’t think about how it would affect his abilities.
More or less. For all intents and purposes, we poisoned a part of his power, so that when he reclaimed it it somehow turned on him. We don’t yet know what effect this had, since he promptly fled and hasn’t been seen since, but it’s within the realm of possibility that his magics were hobbled in some way.
Whatever he has planned, it must be terrible to behold; not a word for 252 years. Or, like you mention, he has to be extremely cautious with his moves.
I don’t mean to sound dismissive…
Too late, you’ve already done so with the title.
What you think of as quests in standard MMOs are dynamic events in Guild Wars 2.
‘Dynamic’? – meaning, characterised by constant change?
Seriously?
So many of these quests are now so ‘dynamic’ there are websites dedicated to timing the spawns, so whole armies of players are lying in wait for them to happen…which makes the biggest challenge of many fights getting a hit in before the boss is rolled over by the train.
I still enjoy playing this game – but lets be real…dynamic it ain’t.
Kill twelve Marrd Apes.
You missed it. Go to Lion’s Arch.
some quaggan guards were overwhelmed by a krait incursion during this rant :\
I hate passing by quaggan settlements, because I feel a strong compulsion to help them when they’re in need.
Neat suggestion, we’ll see how it influences Season 3.
… the most grotesque armor sets…
Fight me.
I like Dry Top’s tiered merchant because Tier 3 is quite easy to achieve and it’s all you need to have every item available. Obtaining the currency is based on my own ability, which, hilariously, is also the reward, so it’s not out of reach like a Bronze Boss Blitz Chest.
Although, it seemed 50/50 to load into an instance where no one is doing anything in the Pavilion, or there’s a mob duet achieving Bronze.
Are you telling us the entry for Season 2 isn’t in their Story Journal, or that your Story Journal is completely blank?
No, just the season 2 Story Journal.
….. What?
Oh hell, just screenshot it.Lolz, ok, all my characters have completed Personal Story, they’re all level 80, so all that is in order, The personal Story Journal is all there.
The part i’m missing is the S2 story. These 2 characters in question have no story Journal for S2 story, it isn’t there. It did not activate it when l logged them in and the green star for S2 Story on UI isn’t there for them either.
When I take them to gates of maguma, there’s no instance entry point on that map to start the story for these 2 characters.
Not really sure how to explain it any better.
When I asked “are you telling us the entry for Season 2 isn’t in their Story Journal”, you typed “no”.
ahh, ic ic
i always felt my female armor was too skimpy and non-intimidating
i mean, look at how uninspiring this is.. it looks like she is going to the beach rather than deep into the battlefolds of tyria
Why can’t I hold all this tongue-in-cheek.
Are you telling us the entry for Season 2 isn’t in their Story Journal, or that your Story Journal is completely blank?
No, just the season 2 Story Journal.
….. What?
Oh hell, just screenshot it.
They are working on looking into making the first living story available through the story journal, it just may take some time/may not be possible since it was not designed with the journal in mind.
Anet should have considered this problem when they first came up with the Living Story idea. If a new or returning player comes into the LS, how do they know what is going on? Since this new Season is a continuation of the First season, how do new players know what happened in the first season? Yes, they can read the Wiki but there should be a in-game resource that not only explains the situation but gives some cinematics to provide the flavor of what has gone before.
It’s in the name, man. They wanted this world to be like a real world, so if you wanted to know about something that happened, ask someone. There hasn’t even been anything about Season 1 placed in this first episode that’s out of context.
Why can’t you be happy they’re working on it in the first place, everyone keeps crapping on them, for the love of god stop. If there’s anything constructive about your post, it’s drowned out by the condemning tone.
All non-playable races are like that.
I don’t really buy that. There’s a world of difference between the Kodan and the Quaggan- why would being non-playable be a good excuse for poor development?
It’s like you read my mind! WITCH! Burn this warlock!
Yeah, quaggans are so much more fleshed out than kodans. It would be silly to have quaggans as a playable race, but being so adorable, quaggan wouldn’t mind.
Are you telling us the entry for Season 2 isn’t in their Story Journal, or that your Story Journal is completely blank?
this thread was so incoherent and vague i have no idea what it’s about
you want the male characters to have more feminine armor? {sorry, that was me throwing my best guess out there}She wants female characters to be able to equip the non skimpy male versions of armor.
See the bolded —
When my female guardian prances around PVP arenas in nothing but an array of bones, held together by what I can only assume to be prehistoric gum, I don’t feel as intimidating and spectacular as I did when I put the same outfit on my male character
Please, please, please make it possible for us females (real life females or those playing one of us in game
) to choose between the bikini and bad-a versions of armors.
I love this game, but come on…Arah gear on a female with a skeleton holding their goods..nooo. Please consider an option to equip the “male” version of armors…would you storm into battle with a golden brazier that focuses all of the impact on your sternum…or leap into a brawl wearing a tiny non-skirt and a garter?…No, ArenaNet, you would not…
To the poster, I agree with what you said. Don’t replace the skins just give the alternative, makes everyone happy.
Sounds like a good idea. Thanks for summarizing that, I sure as hell was not gonna read it.
I was hoping for a gold sink update that would dictate what portions of the city were constructed by certain contractors. If the player base was in-sync, the entire city could be done by a single contractor. But likely end up with structures influenced by multiple cultures (dredge, asura, sylvari, et cetera).
We can still keep the idea that Elder Dragons are just unintelligent forces of nature…
Do you consider holding conversations with ants intelligent.
They’re a tad silly. And their culture is too little and too strict to be open to playability, which makes kodan fans annoying.
You’re a couple months too late to make a suggestion for something that is releasing in 2 days.
Beat me to it.
Scarlet’s diary from season 1 talks about whispers from the forest. The entity most associated with forest is going to be the jungle dragon, of course.
What about a Pale Tree.
I like that the success of Events is tied to something most people want. I rarely get to see the fortification in Southsun Cove successfully defended.
Assuming, for the moment, that Lazarus is still around- remember that we don’t even have a point of reference for a mursaat’s lifespan- then it might well be that he can’t phase out anymore. Without a doubt, he’s still around, though. Likely his Agony ability is terminated, though.
Except the Mursaat have shown no desire to aid in killing the Elder Dragons presumably because they don’t think it can really be done. He would just phase out of the world like they did last time, why on earth would he help the other races – even if it meant he could make them suffer later. No make sense.
How is waking up another one so it can rampage about helping?
They were replying to the post directly above their own, without using Reply.
What could a Mursaat do to be so a part of Tyria that their machinations are visible in the Eternal Alchemy.
The Blood Thorn theory seems to have no peer.
Dunno how often they release feature patches but i think is like twice per year and after i read that post it sounds like we wont see anything new about precursor crafting til next feature patch that will prolly come at the end of the year, by that time i’ll prolly play some other mmo.
Is sad to see it takes so long to get anything done in this game.
I was expecting this post. I would call it “cleverly” inflammatory, but the thread hasn’t really exploded. It just looks like two people made friends.
