CONFIRMED: Ventari and Ronan had kids…. Wait.
I haven’t read Game of Thrones. I tried, but it just wasn’t my taste…
I hate the story, so much. But it’s a nice read, I’m interested in how the Others will be dealt with.
yes bone i’m a lackluster individual!
Not at all, i’m just saying you can make stories interesting without adding in factions and enemies all the time—look at jr tolkien, he wrote LOTR with only one bad guy basically and minor supporting bad guys—and that book has more lore than all of gw2
If you want a discussion, keep the snark comments to yourself.
I think you mean one bad faction; Sauron wasn’t the top evil, nor the most devastating. But yes, that story did seem cut and dry, “point A to B”. Personally, I couldn’t get past page 16, that book is boring as hell.
I’m just saying you can make stories interesting without boiling down whose the good guy and bad guy.
Well don’t ask me loaded questions with backhanded implications. I wasn’t being snarky but trying to be a soothsayer for your even more snarky question =)
My question clarified what you seemed to enjoy in storytelling, I was asking your confirmation.
If you feel insulted, perhaps it’s best you avoid the forum completely. A simple misunderstanding and you seem ready to burn down your own thread.

So you like stories that are point A to B, or with complexities so subtle you miss them?
… to every month.
Ah hell! Where did I skip that?
This story has nothing to do with Trashearne, luckily.
You don’t know for sure. What if we got to kill him?
Trahearne will be Mordremoth’s champion.
He’ll corrupt and merge with one of Glint’s babies.
Kills Braham.
Sorry if this is a repeat, I’ve checked through several pages and haven’t seen similar threads on this exact topic…
I’m very dumbfounded at how they chose to end the first thrilling chapter of LWS2. Instead of some dramatic event that leaves you excited for the upcoming months and breathless for more, you sit in a room. And listen to people talk.
A lot.
Then you click on some stuff and listen to more talking.
A lot.
Then there is some more talking. And you get to poke around a room when everybody leaves. If the end-of-story graphics didn’t pop up in your face you’d have no idea that you’ve been dismissed.
Now I know that we’re not in the age where you can catch a nice Republic serial at the movies anymore, but the cliffhanger trope still works well. I can’t believe the Anet story editor thought that having people sit in a room was a good climax for an introductory chapter. Even the tiny bit of drama that it set up has no payoff… there is all this talk at the start about what kind of defenses might be set up to enter the room, so in theory you could have had some sort of battle to go out on, but after all the hand-wringing from the NPCs you just `pew pew` down a door and that’s it. If there was really no content left for part 3, they could have just ended things after the boss battle in part 2 and saved the part 3 stuff for the opener next month.
Maybe this would work on paper since if I was reading a book I could just continue on to the next chapter. If I have to wait a month for the next piece of story, I wouldn’t recommend putting people to sleep first.
So when you read a book, you come to your conclusion after the first few pages? If you took the time to dive into the story, you’ll have found many clues and lore hidden within. If story is important to you, it can be really boring if you skip or miss all the good parts.
It’s the same “issue” some people expressed during Season 1, which clearly never got around to any explosive chapter. No suffocating, red mist, no burning city, no massive, flying drill. BoringNet.
Well, since the story marks itself as complete once you finish that part, yes, I’m pretty sure. Other things you can do around Dry Top are supplements to the main story as it is being presented.
It is the ending of the first CHAPTER. It is not the ending of the whole book so to speak.
They state as much that they realizes it’s the first chapter, in the initial post. But their wording could use some work.
We…
I want more Tyria, and realistically, the rest of us should, too.
Josh does mention it’s likely years away.
… I’ve checked through several pages and haven’t seen similar threads on this exact topic…
lol
Remember, when Ceara views the Eternal Alchemy, the Pale Tree is there and even speaks to her. She is too much a part of Tyria for any distance to affect her and her brood’s link.
Aerin clearly became Soundless at some point, according to his journal. And that same page, coupled with tracking down Master of Peace, suggest he wanted some specific power the old man has. I feel like it’s way too obvious that Aerin isn’t using any tracking abilities to find him: Mordremoth (or a champion?), thanks to Scarlet’s entry to the Eternal Alchemy, can now actively influence sylvari to it’s will.
A bit of a stretch, maybe a Mordremoth-influenced sylvari can properly corrupt a Glint broodling into a champion.
People just built themselves up with too much hype and BAM!
I don’t understand why, though, this was a pretty typical update.
Personally, I wouldn’t have had any problems with their dialog if they kept their “lovey-dovey”-ness to the beginning, back in the Seraph camp after we defeated the Inquest. That was, in my opinion, the perfect moment for them to work all of their “oh I was so worried about you” and “oh I’m fine”. I really think there is a time and place for such things, and the middle of a rescue mission is neither the time nor the place for such dialog.
I mean, like someone else mentioned, having to wait for them to work their issues so that they would give me a crystal to continue progressing really annoyed me. Maybe if they hadn’t spent so much time fawning over each other while we were climbing we would have been able to save that lady instead of arriving just in time to hear her last words…
To be honest, I’m liking the writing of the characters in this start of season, except for these two. Right now, it kind of feels to me like they are going “did we mention we are a couple today?”. I really hope Anet writers think a bit more about when it’s appropriate for these two to start talking about their relationship so that this does not develop into a full on Romantic Plot Tumor.
It doesn’t become a rescue mission until after the torture victim is discovered. Before that, it’s an investigation. Typically, investigations aren’t in too much of a hurry, lest you overlook something.
When they’re confronted with Inquest a second time, during what’s suppose to be an investigation, some people will want to voice concern about how sudden their loved one’s death could be. Especially someone like Kasmeer, who has lost everything.
Some people keep their relationship private, others like PDA.
Probably got the PvP weapon from the achievement chest before the changes.
I feel like I would’ve remembered that, though.
I’m gay…
So?
It sounds more like they are trying to please the LGBT community
I am part of said community. I do not consider this relationship as pleasing me. It displeases me. If we’re going to pretend this couple is meant to serve a community, a member of that community has every right to stand up and say, “You’re incorrect.”
I’m not pretending anything; I’m adventuring with a couple. End of discussion.
Any significance placed on their sexual orientation is player figment.
Game is no where near dead.
We got lots of content today, more coming soon. And the majority of people seems to be enjoying the patch.Again , another opinion implying the majority like this (‘seems to’), guess you haven’t read the negative comments or you just don’t bother counting them as legimate. Many more ‘seem to’ not care for many aspects of the update, specifcally the forced jumping.
I go to any zone, I see other players. Not dead. Fact.
Judging from the story, I’d wager that we’ll get a fair bit, if not all, of Maguuma unlocked in S2.
Then it’ll be "why didn’t you do this on day one, ArenaNet’. And ‘ArenaNet is wasting their and every player’s time in Maguuma, there’s so much more of the world to explore. (sigh) I’ve lost all hope’.
Returning player needing some assistance. What does the endgame include for GW2? I’m a 76 atm!
Anet’s idea of endgame is doing the same stuff you did when leveling up.
Have fun!
kitten , I can’t imagine ignoring all the fun to be had in low-level zones, hoping it will all be somewhere else when I’m max level.
I’m sorry.
Or he’s thirsty because he’s in a desert area with the closest water on the other side of a quickstand river… and he’s of an aquatic race.
That was my first thought when speaking with him, terrible place for a quaggan. Then he had no thanks for my gold. That’s when I walked inside the building and noticed it’s a bar..
Yes I would also say that this walking punching bag is a freeloading drunkard. Gave him 1g and he still isnt satisfied (a drink costs less than 1 silver).
Blood Whiskey, no less. He must have ten livers.
I’m gay…
So?
… her own story…
You are mistaken; this is the World’s story. You are only here because of your merits amongst your people, the recognition of an Order, and your abilities when faced with Zhaitan’s minions. Just because you see these people as stepping stones, doesn’t make them not people.
I’ve never gotten my hands on Final Rest, and I didn’t want it. Why do I have the skin? I discovered this before today’s update, I should check if it’s still in my Wardrobe.
Wait a bit. It’ll be in gemstore in 2 weeks.
No, no, SHUT UP! Stop taking my gold! Have you no heart, ArenaNet?
I think he’s a drunk and this is just a lesson in giving alcoholics your money. I gave him 1g1s1c.
This release is perfect, my sap is definitely rising.
I think I speak for everyone in this thread when I type ’we’ve had enough of Kasmeer and Marjory’. We all clearly want a male couple, that will set things right, the majority of this thread identifies more with a same-sex male couple.
This is fantastic, just keep pouring this kind of update on my eyeballs, please!
Or it’s coming back this update.
Maybe it’s to see how badly people want it back. Which I do, but I wish I could get that sort of attention for Black Lion underwater skins.
And why would you not want Tengu as a race or another continent to explore? Why is this so appalling to people?
We haven’t even finished the one we’re on.
Logan Thackerey asked me where my line hails from. I chose Elona.
“When is the update”? That’s it?
You know kitten well there’s people here not even looking to have fun; they will tear this update apart.
“Why is the sun out during the daytime!? TrashNet can’t run a successful game, you are losing players.”
… the best that GW1 had to offer.
What was that, please?
They simply learnt from the all of the trouble they had in GW1.
No one here will appreciate this line. Except me, of course.
No.
It’s pretty simple : the player base seems (key word) to hate underwater combat.
How many times did you get in a HotW group to find out that 3 players didn’t have an exotic underwater weapon ? Or an under level 10 breathing apparatus ?
Sometime it’s because they neglected upgrading it (for the rare times it’s useful) but a lot of the time it’s because they simply hate underwater fights. And it’s no wonder why : look at the fights we’re given. HotW p2 and p3 bosses might be the dullest dungeon bosses in all of the game. Even Tazza is less boring.
Then there’s the fact that a lot of utility skills can only be used on land, forcing players to choose other skills instead of giving us water-only skills with similar effects.
I’m convinced that this is why we aren’t ever getting news of the DSD : Anet seems to think their players hate underwater fights.
I wouldn’t know about other’s equipment, we usually destroy enemies underwater without issue. Unless my team decides skipping (shudder) is better.
I find the Plunderer and Zealot quite fun. I haven’t been in a group that doesn’t exploit Tazza’s line of sight, which is boring.
Underwater needs more skills, yes.
The conclusion I came to was that any forthcoming zones simply wont have any underwater content associated with them. Maguuma looks to be pretty arid and dry, so there is a high chance of no lakes or rivers etc. They may have thought of the crystal desert beyond that, which also will have no water areas.
They simply may not be wasting artwork development time on them, which even if true, would still be a big shame.
Crystal Desert’s suppose to have some water, though, thanks to Palawa Joko. He cut off water to the rest of Elona and now the Desert is lush with plant life.
But yes, future content lacking underwater sounds plausible. Until we reach the Underwater Dragon..
Don’t have particular issues with what you’ve posted OP except for the very last point, about saving the world.
We’ve known about all the dragons since even before launch. We started learning about them in Guild Wars 1. The dragons aren’t going away. The battle with have is with them.
Until they’re gone, the world is in danger.
I’m not sure how Anet could back away from that now, and I’m not sure they should. It’s the same threat we had at launch. We’ve handled one of six elder dragons. There are five to go.
The problem as I see it is.. with this you have a sort of countdown…
1 dragon down… 5 left.
1. Either you kill off the dragons one at a time til None are left…or you do Not progress to kill the 6th dragon.
A. You kill off all the dragons One By one til None are left. What do you do then?
B. You never get to kill the 6th drafgon. How does your player-base feel?
It’s like the Dr Who corner the writers wrote themselves Into….
Only 12 Doctors .. that was the story going back to the 70’s…
Then the 12th doctor dies.
A. End the series.
B. Continue wih a 13th Doctor. But that means retconning all those " Only 12 doctors" storylines so that they make sense with a 13th doctor.." oops we were wrong"?
See what I mean?
What do you do if you kill off the 6th elder dragon? Turns out there was a 7th? an 8th? " oops we were wrong"?
Horrible analogy. The world still has problems, despite the Elder Dragons, they are not wholly motivators for the issues with bandits, centaurs, grawl, Inquest, Flame Legion, Nightmare Court. We’ll keep turning, like 250 years earlier when Shiro Tagachi harnessed the power of ten Vin Diesels.
So instead of One major Over-arching danger " a New elder -dragon" and destroying them, we focus on a lot of Little problems…“bandits” and fixing the farmer’s fence?
If you think bandits are a small issue, you have not been paying attention.
This is kinda becoming upsetting, since I just looked back at the April patch and saw that underwater PvP is a ghost. I had somehow hoped Raid on the Capricorn’s removal was temporary.
I think they want to get rid of underwater combat entirely – at least in PvP.
They have continously removed underwater elements of the game: Raid on the Capricorn, Temple of the Silent Storm, and the big lake in the WvW Borderlands.
Definitely in PvP. The April patch notes suggest that underwater combat is difficult to manage for developers and players. It angers and saddens me that it seems they chose the easy way and hardly anyone is disturbed by this.
What would keep them from eliminating PvE underwater; suddenly the Underwater Dragon absorbed most bodies of water or Primordus evaporates it.

There are five Elder Dragons to kill, I think we have time. You don’t think they’ll tie into these issues?
No one wants an underground starter zone? They are battling Destroyers.

Not what I asked, but it sounds like ‘no’.
In the runs I have done, they do stack…
Thank you.
You are welcome, but it still doesn’t make it a good mechanism even if many use it. It is IMO just another way to grind your way to loot. I’m all for better/bigger dungeons, but my only point was that with the current way they are designed, you won’t get more bang for your buck, just more grind and I expected more from ANet is all.
Yeah that’s cool, I just wanted to know if there was a guild that doesn’t stack. It was an off-topic question.
Not what I asked, but it sounds like ‘no’.
In the runs I have done, they do stack…
Thank you.
Super elite dungeons?
With the current mechanism in play DEEPS!! with a smattering of ice bow, it would only mean stacking and spanking 15 times (on the designated spot) instead of 5. What they need to do is re-address the whole philosophy of dungeon design making those that visit there encounter a unique experience every time.
Until they do that, your super elite dungeons will be, sadly, just longer versions of what we currently have, requiring more players, but still the same old kitten.
edit: clarity
Are you in a guild that doesn’t stack?
I’m in a guild and play a necro main. And although I have been invited to do a few runs if they don’t want to do a LFG, I usually bow out because I find the mechanisms both tiring and monotonous, and would rather fight in WvW where every day is a different experience.
Not what I asked, but it sounds like ‘no’.
Every time I see cries for a new playable race(s), it’s for an immediate release, as if no one is taking into account the volume of content that would entail:
- New starter zone
- New Personal Story
- New City
- Free pizza
- New racial Skills
- Re-fitting armors
This would be massive. A simple screenshot of a portal would not herald the addition of new allies (probably a city’s silhouette of semi-recognizable architecture). Can we finish exploring Tyria first, please.
And a new first half of the personal story…
An entire Personal Story. Zhaitan is dead.
