what questions do you want answered?

Boneheart.3561

So i want to compile a list of questions the community has about the lore of guild wars 1 and guild wars 2.

I will attempt to answer as many of these as possible, and will go and look through the games to find the answers

Obviously i wont be able to answer questions like whats gonna happen next(don’t let it stop you from asking though, speculation is fun), but any questions regarding the current release or anything prior, i will take a stab at finding it out.

What a misleading title.
Maybe Josh Foreman has a fanmail address.

i hope its something new and not something that can be easily made via the stockpiles some people may/do already have

I’m not seeing it mentioned often, but it’s certainly on my mind and some others: the back piece scavenger hunt. I’d guess the items involved, at their current value, would be around 112g, about a tenth of the average precursor. So imagine what the scavenger hunt times ten would be like.

Personally, I’d rather they make Legendary crafting a scavenger hunt, as well as the precursor, I guess. I think this would have to be implemented with an entirely new set of Legendaries, though. That might even be a better idea, you could profit off the new scavenger hunt to buy an old precursor.

… it was a fun April Fools update.

I was actually kittened when it first came out.
“Oh boy, what’re we gonna get into next, gimme some clues to investigate toward a skull to cleave open…. 8-Bit virtual game? You sons’a—”

But I played it, it was pretty neat and puzzle-y, I like puzzles (so much so, that I’ll normally attempt to find an intricate solution to a basic, almost non-puzzle, puzzle). So I looked forward to rescuing the princess, but even more interested in the anomaly mystery. Even though world-2 level-2 attempted to crush my spirit under it’s keen-edged heel, I came away with only a broken limb (solving the gong puzzle was a good feeling, but wasn’t well-rewarded).

World 1 was this lighthearted throwback / tribute game. It was relatively fast and easy content that was a fun change of pace. I thought it was well done.

World 2 was a mess. The levels were very long and punishing; while world 1 levels were straightforward to complete in 10 minutes or so, world 2-3 could easily take hours. It also featured the hardest jumping puzzles in the game as roadblocks, sparse checkpoints between instant death traps, and so forth.

I get why that appeals to some gamers, but that’s not up to the standards of a modern game, and it changed SAB from this fun diversion to a very niche piece of content.

So what’s your point? You think that niche content that already exists should be denied to those who enjoy it simply because you do not?

I believe his point was explaining why the numbers weren’t very high for world-2.

Likely the single biggest reason for the low metrics, was because W2 was released at the same time as Ascended weapons and legendary weapon updates. So most people were focusing on those.

Doubtful.
Ascended and Legendaries aren’t going anywhere. Personally, I made it to level-3 of world-2 and discovered I needed a new item to progress, which required a Wallet to purchase. After the sadism that was level-2, I decided to wait for the release of world-3.
My friend repeated the frog boss fight until being able to claim the 8-bit greatsword. They played Super Adventure Box harder than me, they loved it. Spirit was completely broken after Pain Cliffs, I could only convince them to accompany me to level-3 because they knew about the new item neither of us had.

So you can’t stun lock them to death in other games but you want to be able to do it in this game or am I not understanding you correctly. Defiance is a good mechanic and is unique for this game. All MMO’s do not have to be cookie cutters of each other.

Well, he mentions that they shouldn’t be able to be stunlocked, and thus the Defiance is a “band-aid”.
So the boss creature is immune to all stuns, until they begin the animation for a skill that can only be dodged, or only interrupted. With the skills we have, this would be incredibly boring.

In My opinion there must be 2 kind of spells just like in the rest in the MMO world. Some that have to be dodged. Those must be non-interuptable mechanics. And other that must be attacks that can be interrupted.
You can’t just put something that blocks the CC only because Anet don’t know how to deal with it properly.

One can only dodge so often, and if the attacks are planned for your ability to dodge then why have Endurance.
There’s only so many devastating attacks to interrupt (or dodge), we have so many skills to stun (and break stuns) it would make the attack seem pointless.

This game is really the only MMO I know that doesn’t release substantial content for the more dedicated player, i. e. no additional dungeons or raids. Yes, we got fractals – that was a good start, but then? Nothing. Almost every other MMO releases a lot of new dungeons and raids. We just get nothing, and I feel the urge to change the game just be cause of that: there is just simply nothing to do after world completion and the dungeon title which I got after a couple of months after release.

Other MMOs let you know months before what they will implement and then release it. GW2 won’t tell you months ahead what they want do and if they did it, they haven’t delivered it. Something is just completely wrong with this company. I am a bit sad, since GW2 (and GW) is/was my most played MMO franchise so far and I wish this will remain for the future.

I could swear this was marketed as a casual game, that you could just put it down or pick it up whenever you want, no?

There is no confirmation that SAB is definitely not returning, which I would suspect be the only case in which support is going to even open your email.

Now watch, as no one pays attention to that.
I had to hammer someone in-game with question after question, most of them repeats, before they would acknowledge that they didn’t have all the facts and were incorrect. I can’t stomach fear mongering.

I cant stomach anet not giving any real information but instead explaining things in a way to manifest fear. Instead of rewording it to make players understand there are certain things they wish to get done before adding these other features back into the game or creating new ones.

Simply put, Anet chose to give bad news when in reality if said in a different way would give hope and joy.

I don’t think anyone’s afraid Super Adventure Box isn’t showing up when they want it. Demanding refunds, being surprised by vague answers, this is more akin to a tantrum.

I wonder what the demographic would be like for Super Adventure Box in China.

So the alternate character, they don’t get the Achievement buffs when entering the instance? I know I can see the Achievement details on other characters, but I’ve never gone to an instance.

Correct. Say, for example, I’m trying Dragon’s Reach P2 for the first time on my Mesmer. All achievements are locked, so I can just focus on the story.

Now, my Mesmer isn’t exactly built for high DPS, so for achievements, I normally turn to my Ranger or my Warrior. However, despite the achievements now being unlocked on my account since I completed the story once, I STILL cannot complete the achievements on my Ranger or Warrior. I must complete the story once on either of them before I’m eligible. Likewise, if it turns out that my Warrior has high DPS, but an achievement requires a lot of dodging and thus my Ranger will be more useful, I now have to complete the story a THIRD time on my Ranger so that she becomes eligible.

Unlocking the Achievements account-wide sounds like a neat idea. But I’m not fond of your example, you seem so inflexible with how your characters operate.

It’s a side effect of having many alts, I have it too sometimes.
If you play 8 characters you can afford to stick with 1 build per character.

It’s like for fractals I normally join with my engineer but if I die too much because of whatever reason I’ll switch to my warrior because i’d lose too much dps on engi if I made him tankier while my warrior doesn’t lose dps. If the whole group dies I’ll switch to my guardian because a warrior just can’t do the job of a guardian.

You get used to the strenght and weaknesses of your alts and you switch appropriately. It’s a fun way to play because it gives you a reason to play with your alts instead of sticking to one character and letting your alts gather dust on character select.

I have nine.

Who is running the Inquest?

in Lore

Posted by: Boneheart.3561

Boneheart.3561

I wouldn’t think the Inquest has a council. From what I can remember, the Inquest don’t have krewes, everyone is working toward the same goal and individualism is absent.
I think we can safely assume there is one person at the very top.

The Inquest can be thought of as a meta-krewe. The name is simply an umbrella term for many different krewes who simply ascribe to the Inquest’s methodology (namely, “Results are everything. Morals are unnecessary. All data, information and inventions should belong to the Inquest. If other researchers won’t share, take it.”) Within the Inquest, there are dozens, perhaps hundreds, of different krewes working on multiple projects at the same time.

I’m inclined to say that the Inquest functions similarly to terrorist cells. Each cell is largely self-contained and has a leader (e.g. Kudu, Teyo and Tazza), but the cell leaders rarely have much to do with each other unless their projects happen to overlap.

I very much remember an in-game NPC (likely an Inquest defector) mentioning that they joined the Inquest thinking they’d be able to explore their own project or something without politics getting in the way. They essentially told me the Inquest treats them like a cog.
Maybe I remembered it incorrectly.

in Living World

The compromise would be achievements are locked during the first run, but once the first run is done, achievements are unlocked account-wide. You don’t need to do the LS on an individual character in order to use that character to get the achievements if it turns out one is better suited to the task than another.

So the alternate character, they don’t get the Achievement buffs when entering the instance? I know I can see the Achievement details on other characters, but I’ve never gone to an instance.

Locking the achievements until the story has been completed once is just a thinly-disguised attempt to increase replayability in a fake manner.

Seems like one group doesn’t want them unlocked during the first run, and the other group wants them unlocked by default (at the least, hidden but achievable on the first run). What’s a compromise?

Please get your head out of the clouds. This game is not an Esport and will never become one. The vast majority of people play this game for the PvE aspect of the game.

Over 3 million PvE players have been begging you for new ingame armor sets for almost 2 full years. We have gotten none.

Now you are implementing a PvP armor set that can only be obtained by winning tournaments in tPvP mode? There are currently <1000 players who actively participate in tPvP.

3,000,000 > 1000. Please re-evaluate your priorities.

Thank you.

I’d rather this be a small scale compared to what Legendary crafting could be. After all, the prestige is meant to come from the unique skin and not the crafting material. But yes, precursor crafting could be just as costly as the precursor itself.
