I’ve seen it a couple times. ooze just goes right past oil slick. I’ve reverted to running directly into the middle of the oil slick and standing there soaking up the burn damage while waiting for the ooze to start doing it’s job. sometimes works…

ITT: players complaining about the fact that they don’t have an HOUR to spare to play the game and expecting some sort of compensation.

Really? an hour? There are very few games that i can think of where you would be able to accomplish much of anything in less than that amount of time. Even single player platformers would take an average of an hour to solve a level from start to finish. I dunno, maybe a game of bejewled or one of those facebook games… (insert elitist response of: "it’s takes you an hour to finish a platformer level!? NOOB)

Anyway, this isn’t a platformer. It’s an MMORPG. The entire idea behind this game is that it be able to occupy your FREE time and keep players logging in. And honestly, this game is more casual friendly than most single player rpgs that I’ve played.

I am in fact casual. I have been playing since launch, I have only 2 level 80 toons and ZERO ascended weapons. I play at most 2-3 days a week with an average play time of about 2 hrs. BUT, if I log in and know that i don’t have an hour’s worth of FREE time to spare, then i don’t jump into an activity that takes an hour and then QQ about not being able to finish it.

I have to apologize, I am ranting. I don’t mean to attack or offend anyone. I just see threads like this and I think to myself, “seriously? wtf”

And if you split it up, they’ll be able to do it in 20 minutes. There’s a reason that the most popular dungeons are sub-10/20 minutes. That’s not just for hardcore farmers, I think most casual players prefer shorter dungeons that can be done in a time crunch.

Hell, if you wanted to be super lazy, just have a chest pop up at the halfway point indicating that that part of the dungeon is done and you can continue on to the end if you want, and just have the option to start at the halfway point when you first enter the dungeon. Obviously the gold reward will be cut in half (though I think it should be 1.5 g because of the difficulty level, ala Ascalonian Catacombs.)

It’s a win-win: It’s exactly the same except you get a chest in the middle, and you can start at the halfway point. If you don’t have time, or you don’t particularly like a section, or it’s just easier to farm one part, everyone is happy. Even if you hate short dungeons, you can still run the whole thing at once.

OMG seriously? Well if that’s the case why don’t they just send us a chest in the mail once a day with gold, loot and dungeon tokens. That way, all we have to do is log in and check our mail! YAY!

Ill admit, the ooze room is a PITA. But, the base game is already like 100% faceroll so it’s super refreshing to start seeing some end game content that offers a challenge and requires communication, thought and strategy. (I am referring to both the tequatl update and the new TA path) IMHO, end game content not only should, but NEEDS to offer a challenge for end game play. I for one wouldn’t mind seeing a dungeon that takes us a month to figure out and finish as a community. It’s the kind of thing that should foster conversations and strategies. And once we are able to finish that dungeon, i would like a new one, even tougher. This is the kind of stuff that keeps end gamers coming back. Not new faceroll achievements that can be grabbed in a few hours and forgotten about. Finishing a new encounter or dungeon should be a huge achievement and should contain huge rewards.

And please don’t get me wrong, Im not talking about exclusivity or “NOOBS not welcome” etc. Heck, Im casual by any definition. I’ve been playing since launch and only have 2 level 80’s and zero ascended weapons. So it’s not about being hardcore. It’s about having a reason to keep logging in. It’s about that dungeon calling you back and taunting you, saying “yeah you and your friends may have made it this far but you’ll never reach the end of me!” lol, i know, kind of weird but i imagine many will know what feeling im referring to. Nothing beats the feeling of jumping back into group with your friends and saying “ok guys, so what did we learn last time, what are we gonna try this time, and is everyone ready!?”

So i guess, TLDR; If you are getting frustrated, try changing your perspective. Embrace the challenge, enjoy the journey. For if you do, the reward at the end will be ever so much sweeter for it. And if your not careful, you may even find yourself having a lot of fun along the way.

Is it live? has anyone tried it yet?… A lot of angst for what is essentially something new to do. And, as for rangers, or any other profession in dungeons, send me a party request. Ill go with anyone, that’s what makes the game fun. Playing with others and figuring out how to succeed. I personally am looking forward to it.

I hate to say this, but the living story is really not much of a story at all. The plot is a twisted patchwork mess. The characters are cardboard cut-outs with no discernible life, depth or dimension. Honestly, I can’t even recall what has happened so far because it really is not interesting enough to even register in my brain. I mean hell, we had a freaking election and it takes a second to even recall Elen’s name. This is such a beautiful game with such a vast well of existing history and lore but it’s just not being utilized. I feel bad saying this because i know that ANET works really hard to bring us consistent and fun content. And so far they definitely have. Updates have brought some cool features but the “story” is really non-existent and extremely disappointing.
That being said, Mad King is coming and im super excited about that! Best lore and Villian in the game if you ask me. Can’t wait to see what tricks he has up his sleeve this year.

I am actually happy about the fact that they are showing a bit of cohesion and carrying the story thread through the updates. Also, Scarlet is the most memorable character to come from the living story yet. Rox and Brahm are lifeless and boring at best and that girl who won the election, what’s her name?… Bring it on I say.

I have to agree as well. I don’t know if instancing is the answer but there has to be a solution because this is definitely counter productive to an encounter of the magnitude. This really is raid quality content and requires planning and coordination. The current overflow system definitely doesn’t allow for that. Spawn windows also don’t allow for that. While I think that this encounter is exactly as it should be, the way it is accessed doesn’t seem to work with the difficulty level. If it is going to be this difficult, (which i feel it SHOULD be, i mean its a freaking dragon! RAWR!) then we should probs be able to organize and try multiple attempts with planning. Sounds like im describing an instance. crap, i just argued myself out of my first sentence… lol

What is this? I don’t even… Srsly? THIS IS A VIDEO GAME. The entire point of it’s existence is to be PLAYED. It’s not about getting a freaking chest full of digital baubles that don’t mean anything. I mean, come on. The rewards are not kittenING real! Play the kitten game! If you don’t like the game, then don’t play it! it’s as simple as that. @unleashed, Yeah i have been thinking about adding dhuumfire. It seems pretty good for pve, especially if you can time your epidemics with it. But i have a really hard time giving up that vitality, the life siphon is really secondary in my opinion. It’s the vitality im after in that trait line.

Hmmm…this is really making me think about adapting that build a little for more duration beyond the traits. That way, when doing something like a temple, I can focus less on maintaining the 25. We have too many options to just pew-pew. And, open world mobs usually don’t need even 15 stacks….usually. Starting to think that bleed build might be overdoing it.

It is pretty standard aside from a few small differences.

For one, I prefer the Afflicted Runes with a sigil of Doom slotted in the staff. I agree with the fact that the common build tends to over-emphasize the bleed. I can still cap a bleed stack and at the same time get a significant increase in poison uptime. IMHO, i feel like this increases my overall DPS slightly.

I also like to mix Rampager’s with the rabid gear. Give’s me a power boost and makes if feel as though im not quite hitting with a totally wet noodle when swinging my scepter. (especially for structures)

Slot skills should of course change with situation. I tend to swap Locust Signet for Spite Signet during any decent encounter. And of course i drop flesh golum for something more reasonable whenever im not just running around exploring.

I also agree with Gnat in taking a bit of vitality. When you are running corruption skills that extra vitality can make a significant difference when you miss a transfer or cleanse and are stuck with a couple of your own bleeds or poison for a second or two.

So that’s pretty much the bulk of my build. It is surely not the best but has been very reliable and I’ve had a lot of success with it and it can adapt to any situation just by switching around a couple utility skills.

Bleed caps at 25 stacks, but running solo if you’re capping the bleed stack then it’s a good thing! EXAMPLE: taking a fairly low average 1300 CD gives you a bleed that hits for about 107.5HP/s. If you can maintain an average 15 stacks of bleed then you’re bleed alone will cause ~1612HP/s damage.

I think guild wars 2 style raids fall more along the lines of difficult event chains. Like Balthazar. Not only do you need a ton of people to complete this, even a zerg can have a hard time succeeding if there is no communication. The only difference is, you don’t have to instance to do it. Moreover, with proper planning and communication the chance of success goes up exponentially. The really great thing about this system is that participation is open to everyone and the fact that completing it changes the environment for everyone on that server is the real reward.

Now, as it stands currently, things in this system are not perfect and they can be vastly improved. BUT, the potential for events of this style that are VASTLY superior to raids is a very real thing. And i would bet that this is what ANET is working on. Remember, this MMO is absolutely breaking new ground in this type of area and the ride can be a bit bumpy at times.

Take moment and imagine something with me… There is a new area available in the game. At the heart of this area lies “XYZ_BOSS”. Said boss guards a giant chest which contains a specific item needed to, i dunno, craft precursors or something, whatever. We all want to get to that chest. Problem is, we can’t because the area is overrun with the bosses minions and champs and its locked up tighter than a frog’s butt. We have to unlock the area, fight our way to the bosses lair, and get that kitten chest… /map goes out for a call to arms. Use LFG Tool to start forming groups, Put “XYZ” into group name to designate which commander you will platoon with… See where I’m going with this?

TLDR: Anet’s got something up their sleeve.

Tequatl will have anti-zerg mechanics. Numbers will no longer guarantee victory.

When the event has mechanics that make just trying to burn him down useless.

If the Hyleck guns are not used to cleanse the aoe poison pools, debuff the bone stacks preventing the bone wall, and defended the event will fail. If the Batteries are not defended and the large asura gun not fired, the event will fail. If all this isn’t done in 15 minutes multiple times, the event will fail. Just because something requires lots of players doesn’t mean it’s a zerg. When it involves lots of players and requires coordination between them, then it’s a battle.

People keep thinking that pressing 1 and standing in front of him will be enough. Tequatl’s Fingers are buffed now, and can no longer be ignored. The new Tidal Wave attack will probably down everyone who doesn’t pay attention. Etc etc etc. In fact, people with the zerg mindset will probably be the first ones to complain that Tequatl is too hard now.

From the preview video, it looks like servers will need to organize at least 6 different teams to cover the Fingers, defend the Turrets, attack Tequatl, debuff armor and cleanse poison pools, and even power rez downed players. And that’s only the attack phase.

I REALLY hope this sort of thing starts to happen. Commanders could take control of squads and squads STICK WITH YOUR COMMANDER. This is the sort of thing that really makes me excited about playing. Zerk war squads for dps, CC squads to protect the people manning turrets, turret squads, Condi squads to melt trash around batteries, etc, etc… The possibility for organization and team play is awesome. But then again, look at WvW. The possibility for that type of play exists there as well but it’s always been nothing more than a ridiculous roving spam zerg.

Oh look, this thread again! LOL, sorry, Im just being a troll at this point. But really, @Tom Gore makes a great point. I watched the youtube vid and the encounter looks awesome! Tons of different stuff to do, plenty of roles that need to be played to achieve success. I for one cannot wait to take my <<insert whatever class/build you want>> into the fight and have a blast killing a dragon!

No I am aware of the changes, but I don’t see what that even has to do with it, the boss is not the adds. If I want to be part of the group that goes toe-to-toe against Tequatl, why should I not be able to do so on equal footing with any other class and build?

This is a major flaw in the games very system that stretches over encounters in every single game mode. And it is seemingly being completely ignored in all new content added.

While i agree that the current system is less than perfect, I wouldn’t say that it makes a whole set of stats worthless. You are pidgeon-holing yourself into thinking ONLY about DPS. But if you’re not playing a warrior, then then you should be thinking about other things as well. How about support? How about boon stripping? The classes in this game become the most powerful when we adapt and work together, not when we all butt heads and get in each other’s way. Im not trying to bash or flame or whatever, Im just saying that you can have a METRIC-kitten-TON of fun by playing other roles and end up being R9K times more useful and effective all at the same time.

Um… how is boon stripping affected by Condition Damage? That stat is definitely not going to help you do any that any better.. His point seems to remain strong that if you specced into CD you’re pretty useless in world boss fights because of the cap.

That doesn’t help the issue in any way whatsoever. That’s like saying I can improve my condition build by dropping all my condition stats and gearing out in zerkers. My build is condition damage and duration, those are damage-based stats, there is no logical reason why I should be barred from using them in a DPS build.

Ok man, it’s not worth arguing over and Im not going to tell you how to play your character. But your entire line of thinking is completely one dimensional. I play a fully condition specced necro, and if you think that there aren’t other things that i can be and furthermore, SHOULD be doing in an encounter like this then your just plain wrong. You comment about “improve my conditional build by dropping all my condition stats and gearing out in zerkers” only serves to prove how uni-laterally you are thinking. As a matter of fact, my condition necro can really shine in an encounter like this without me ever even thinking about the bleed cap. But that’s because i’m not auto attacking with scepter #1 and i know what utilities to slot before i even run into the fight. But i digress, like i said this isn’t a flame war or an argument.

Even more importantly, this is a CONTENT update to a VIDEO GAME. Try and enjoy it.

From the dhuumfire wiki page:
Notes
Only affects one target at each 10 second cycle, even if more than one target is hit with a critical hit.
In PvP, the burning only lasts for 2 seconds.

As an aside, you can spread it with epidemic, but epi has a 1s cast time. So even if you’re REALLY fast, best case scenario is you get a ~1s bleed on 5 targets every 10 sec in PVP. In PVE it’s a bit better, but really to trait and gear for Dhuumfire, IMHO requires a ton of condi duration to make it worth while.

Personally I’m holding out hope that the new legendary scepter will be worth using and will be getting that. Therefore i’m getting the dagger first and then staff. Skipping scepter altogether and going for the legendary one.

I agree, the karma nerf is way over the top. They nerfed the crap out of supply and then added a bunch of crap that we need karma to aquire. Decrease supply OR increase demand, but both at the same time? wow, wtmf

Just FYI, it’s a pretty common complaint that karma was way too easy to get, and had minimal things to actually use on.

I’m personally sitting pretty on 5 million karma with absolutely nothing to spend it on. This is a great change.

Yes, if you are sitting on 5 million karma then it IS a great change. Unfortunately, not all of us are sitting on 5 million karma. But meh, im not mad about it. just saying it’s a pretty significant move on ANET’s part.

Also, now that obsidian shards are required for ascended crafting, I imagine quite a bit of karma will be drained after this update.

I love my condition necro. I have tried power and hybrid as well and always go back to conditions. I feel like i can do things with my condition build that will always send me back to a WP with the other builds. Epidemic is your best friend. Invasion content; 25 stacks of just about everything on the champ? Perfect, epidemic->25 stacks on everything else now as well. Spam area loot, Profit.

Not everything, just 5 targets.

Epidemic is a joy button no other job has but it has no use outside of crowd control

I sort of agree with you but you state this as if it is a weakness. I contend that when building a condition necro, you are explicitly choosing to build around the ability to handle multiple targets, and handle them very well i might add. When viewed in this light, your comment about epidemic having “no use outside of crowd control” is the same as saying that a bomb has no use outside of exploding…

Ayrilana, this issue is more about FoTM than sigils.

It’s still def an issue with sigils though. I’ve always thought it was odd that 2h weapons didn’t get 2 slots. IMHO they should.

You’re probably one of the many who don’t understand how sigils work. They only affect that weapon’s skills. The exception being stacking sigils.

123 is right hand, 45 is left hand. 12345 is both hands for 2h weps. Balanced.

I thought that sigils effected all weapons in the weapon set? IE:
-Say i have a superior sigil of accuracy on main hand and a superior sigil of earth in offhand.
-When weilding this set my crit chance goes up by 5% (effecting both weapons)
-Also, even though sigil of earth is slotted in offhand, both offhand AND mainhand have 60% chance to bleed on crit.

Am i wrong about this?
