Obviously then rangers are a topic that needs to be talked about. You can say talk about it on the rangers forum…but you’d have to dig 6 pages in before you saw the last response for ANet.
What it comes down to is – are you having an enjoyable time or not? I doubt any MMO will ever be perfect, they all have their flaws.
I used to play a druid in WoW, as class which was pidgeonholed into only one feasible role (healer) until the first expansion came out after two years, and due to previous game experiences I was not very fond of being a healer. The game overall still was fascinating enough for me to stay, plus I did not restrict myself to just playing that one class. The devs there got many things right, and improved many things over time. Sadly they also got some things dead wrong (from my point of view), so I left in the end, after being a hardcore player for a long time.
In my opinion the devs of GW2 are making a good effort to fix bugs, so I can’t say I am unhappy on that front. What bothers me most probably are the bot-hordes where I think Arenanet needs to change their approach at least initially and have GMs hunt them down, until they can come up with a working automated system.
To answer your first question, that is why I made this post. For now I can deal with the majority of the bugs and am having a lot of fun. In addition it is also because I haven’t reached max lvl yet so have yet to experience some of the heavier bugs in the game. So for now YES…I am having a blast with the game!
However, 6 months down the line if I am still having to repeat 1/5 dungeon runs because of a bug that prevents me from finishing…then NO my fun levels will have greatly worn down. In essence I am trying to gauge my expectations for the future for what is “reasonable” to expect.
My boyfriends main character is a necro. He is very fond of his beloved necro, loves playing it and is oblivious of the “life siphon healing mobs” bug and other issues. I’m not going to tell him. He stays away from the forum, thus noticing bugs less and enjoying the game more.
For me, I’m thankful that I still have the ability to shrug whenever I encounter a bug or bot. I have played AoC when it was first released, and even though I loved the game, the bugs eventually made me quit, and that was WITHOUT reading any forums whatsoever. GW2 could improve, certainly. But it’s not "critical’ yet – unless you dwell on the forums too much.
Personally, I only surf the forums if there is an issue I observe, to guage if my concern is a big issue or just a personal misunderstanding. For example reading the patch notes and not seeing anything for the ranger, irked me a bit. Pet responsiveness is something you can see just from playing the game. Also in optimizing my character it is of some use to surf the forums and see the studies peoples have done, like the SB-QZ bug so that I can optimize my character for dungeons.

lols im lost
to be totally realistic, there isn’t a forum that exists that doesn’t have excessive QQ. Truth of the matter is that those who truly enjoy/ have time for the game are busy playing it. I RARELY see someone in-game complain about how bad the game is. Although the suggestions forum is a bit better about moderating complaints…try that.
Actually my personal policy is to never buy MMOs or other online games until 3 months after release. Sadly I was suckered into both Diablo 3 and GW2 on release due to friends buying them and peer pressuring me.
But luckily I am a mature person who goes into games (and life) without excessive expectations, so in both cases the games have been enjoyable. Although I’m never going back to D3 so I’ll miss all of the big changes that are apparently coming.
The worse part of both games have been the forums. Really, I should break my unhealthy addiction to reading forums. They really just ruin the game for me. Along with rotting my soul and destroying any remaining faith I have in humanity.
Aha! Got a laugh out of your last paragraph. I will admit that there is a lot of exaggerated QQing on the Forums. You go to any class forum and you will see that apparently they have it the worse. But some of these concerns are justified: personally I have had to restart the same dungeon 3 times in the last 2 weeks due to a progress blocking bug. Due to a job and school I can only play on weekends so wasting 2 hours on a bugged dungeon takes a big chunk out of my fun time.
Let us capitalize on this oppurtunity by raising chest prices on the TP, until they go back to 1 copper after halloween lol.
This is some kind of bullkitten. Someone makes a post about Necros and it remains on the Discussions page. There were two topics about the lack of love for Rangers, which excites LOTS of discussion and it immediatly gets moved to the Rangers forum.
Nothing against you OP, it just seems a bit unfair that rangers are getting shafted.

So I’ve been playing this game since the BWE’s and have tracked the game’s progress. I have never stuck with an MMORPG for more then 3 months and GW2 looks to be the first one to keep my attention for quite a bit longer. However I am concerned with the pace the bugs are being fixed. In it’s current state many of the dungeons and high level areas have progress blocking parts. Many of the classes have unplayable builds (Ranger, Necro…ahem). I have tried to keep most of my complaints on reserve, but in all honestly, how long is a reasonable time to wait before things become unreasonable? 3 months? 6 months? 1 year? For those of you that played WoW, SW:TOR, GW1, Age of Conan, EVE, RIFT, etc; how long did it take before the game was balanced/ had most MAJOR bugs worked out? How long before the complaints on the forums went from an exponential rise to a steady decay? Please provide specific anecdotes if you can.
An honest question for someone who has never played an MMO long term.
They need to rebuild the Ranger. From beginning to end. Only class where skill that gives more damage is auto-attack. This is ridiculous. Ranger is far from dps, far from support, far from anything. Traits wrong, skills buggy, no update, no nothing.
But.. oh wait, im rolling thief. I dont care more ^^
As far as I am aware, across EVERY class the majority of your damage dealing is going to be with your “1” skill chain.
Firstly, I really hate to not be explicitly informative in my posts, but you could literally answer your own question by spending 15 minutes reading through some of the most recent posts. You can either click on the stickied thread above posting all of the bugs for the ranger or you can view the many available recent threads QQing about how the class mechanics are out of whack.
At the time of posting the 5 posts just below yours all answer your question to various degrees.
I second Aresmar, I have yet to see this. Please be a bit more informative Reiko; linky plz?
Yes, as Sleepy said, right now the build up for spirits is not worth the hit to damage that you will take for having to invest all of your points in the spirit trait line.
I believe you also only get 2 backbraces, one from a story mode around lvl 30-40 I believe and another at 80.
I see that you say you are a spirit ranger, but do not mention spirits in your strategy. How do you manage to keep them from dying so quickly, without positioning them so far that their AOE reaches no one.
I can confirm that there are two types of cosmetic change items in the gem store right now, available to random people (my friend was one of those people.) One of them lets you change hair and certain colors (not skin I think) and the other, more expensive one, is everything but race and profession. The lesser one was 250 gems I think, and the other was 350.
What item/items would that be? I don’t recall ever seeing anything on the TP that could do this.
yea, what is up with the CHANCE of a boon?! I heard that spirits used to be very effective pre-release and got ultra-nerfed right before. I run dungeons a lot and would LOVE to sport a Spirit Ranger!
Lol, that is the reason these discussion boards exist. If I wanted JUST an answer from Anet I would send them an email outright. By posting it in the Forums I am trying to:
1) Raise Awareness
2) Stimulation discussion to raise Awareness
3) Gain enough Awareness for ANet to respond
Being cynical about a new topic won’t get you very far.
Could it be that you got overrun? Unlike some of the other failed parts, the gravelings do not go away and you must defeat the leftovers before you attempt the spike room again. Almost ran into the same thing this weekend when no chest appeared…we just had to redo it.
I really wish to get a response from ANet. At first Spirit Rangers seem like a viable alternative to someone who wants to go all out support. Spirits would work awesomely in Dungeons…if the spirits worked themeselves. Is there talk of fixing spirits for the future or are they going to remain the weak, fragile, immobile things they currently are? Even with points invested in the Spirit trait line to allow movement and a TINY BIT of more health, they are still very quickly killed off by trash mobs.
**From my experience the only two viable Ranger builds right now are the Survivalist Ranger and Trap Ranger. Neither of which offer too many direct support abilities.
I am here to represent RANGERS. Typically I support my people in a number of ways:
1) If I spec my engineer for traps I support via crowd control (chilling, crippling, entangling, etc.). Also almost every trap provides a combo field for whatever element trap it is.
2) The third ranger heal is a nice AOE and healing combo field, also removes conditions. Really it is the only heal worth using.
3) Depending on what pet you use; I for one use my jungle stalker the most. He has an AOE roar that adds 5 stacks of might to anyone in the vicinity.
**Really the best support role a ranger could play is a spirit ranger. Spirits are supposed to provide awesome boons and crowd control secondaries. Unfortunately due to the poor implementation of spirits they are the furthest thing from a viable choice.

I have had something like it happen to me in AC:
Did your quest log show Kholer alive even though he was killed? If pulled wrong from his room you can not trigger his “fight” and kill him before the quest updates thus locking the entire instance from finishing.
Those are two different issues entirely. By checking Kohler’s health in the upper right you can see if his health is properly decreasing. Detha not responding seems to be fairly random.
bump for general AC bug awareness
Which one is the flooded temple, the spike trap segment or where you fight the boss? Either way…AC is bugged out on many of the branches.
Happened to me last night…Hodgins didn’t move. We all tried exiting the dungeon and re-enter, but he was still not triggering the event. This is the third bug in AC since this game has released that has forced me to restart.
I run all 3 paths everyday and have had no issue other than the inconvenience of the Breeder not leaving his spawn immediately at the traps in Detha’s path.
Not sure what variable is involved in issues for other people.
I think a big factor is what server you are on. I used to be on Gates of Madness, never had a single glitch for dungeons or anything. Moved to Tarnished Coast and the first day I was there I had 2 glitches happening, the first one being the Kohler glitch, the second one being a waypoint teleporting me nowhere, but charging me for it.
Here to +1 this,
I’ve successfully completed AC about 9 times. About 3 times I have had a glitch that has forced me to restart. Twice Lieut. Kohler failed to trigger (but I’ve found a remedy for that). Just today Hodgins would not trigger the scepter gathering event, had to start over again. Please fix AC…
I can’t believe no one has said this yet. Go into your graphical settings and turn “post processing” effects to none. It takes off most of those particle effects and doesn’t make the game suffer graphically.
I assume it will be added in the future. GW1 had the ability for a character to get a “make-over” (hair, facial hair, skin color, tattoos, etc.) or an “extreme make-over” (race).
Totally Agree.
Bumping this, since a nerf was the LAST thing the ranger needed to the only viable dps weapon.
anyone have a fix?
So I was making some rare daggers for a buddy and promised to put some sigils on them. I finally made the rare daggers and placed the sigils, however it said the daggers were now soulbound. There was no way I could mail them to him. However when I try to equip them, it asks me if I want to soulbind them?!
Please someone fix this, I hate to have to refind/buy 30 vials of blood to remake them. I want to be able to send my buddy these 2 rare daggers I just made.
Also, is there a way to fix them if ANET does not respond? Can I transmute the daggers onto another one to remove the soulbind?
maybe this belongs in the bugs forum?
melee…mesmer…
let me sink that in.
I use a 1h sword on my mesmer, but it is far from my main weapon.
Here to also say I would exclusively game on Linux if the client were available. In fact I think ANet should take a survey to see how strong the userbase for linux would be.
Was doing AC catacombs a few days back. I was leading the team and properly targeting every enemy we would attack as a group. No one else could see my targeting icon, so we all ended up confused when we would get swarmed. I know there is a bug out there that unselects targeted enemies, but this is different. In this case I am the only one who can see my own targeting icon.
Playing on Tarnished Coast for the first day (from Gates of Madness). Decide to play AC Explorable…decide to do third branch, the one where you have to destroy all the graveling mounds. We get to lieutenant kohler and kill him no issues and kill his henchman. However, the event indicator says to still kill him and he has full health. Someone verifies that he is in fact, still dead and lying on the ground. No chest, no waypoint, nothing. We try to continue through the rest of the quest…near impossible since we have to run twice the distance to respawn and regroup. THREE HOURS wasted, hardly any loot. NEVER had these issues on Gates of Madness, and I’ve completed it thrice!
Is this just a server issue or did something recently mess up gamewide?
I find the best one to use as an elite skill is entangle. It is the most useful one in dungeons, pvp, pve, everything!
If I have an external hardrive loaded with the proper .exe and .dat is it possible to run GW2 on one of my campus computers without admin permissions?
I know after the big WvW changes they had free server transfers. They said 1 every 24-hours is allowed, but I don’t remember how long that would be retroactive for. Can I still do it?
Are any of the Tier 2 Elite skills worth anything? So far as I know all of the best forms I have are mostly cosmetic. It seems the only advantage snow leopard has over the others is it can attack and move (def not worth 30 skill points). The other elite skill that allows you to revive people with a spirit is equally useless due to the low range and vitality of the spirit (like every other spirit you summon). Am I misinterpreting or am I better off spending skill points on the much better rounded Tier 1 elites? (Entangle FTW!)
Here to confirm the same issue, all my pet names have been reset multiple times.
It is called Diminished Returns. No one definitely knows what it means, other then that you get less reward the more you kill something or stay in one area.
I think what you are saying is that the time and experience it would take you to earn AC or CM gear would put you well above the wearable lvl. In which case I think that dungeon gear should scale to the lvl at which you bought it.
The irony of this thread is that I created it to get answers from Devs/Mods on how DR actually works. Instead it was moved from the Discussions forum over the the PHP forum, where we are more likely to speculate more then get actual answers.

Even for those that know about DR, the details about it are hazy as ANet has not elaborated. When does it kick in? How long does it last? What is the penalty?

so guys simple solution for DR just log out an log back in it resets….
Actually, no it doesn’t. It seems to accelerate the time the DR diminishes, but it does not reset it. If that were the case it would defeat the purpose of DR.

as much as the haters say that this game is not for farming. I tell you that it is IMPOSSIBLE to craft without farming…unless you buy from the BLTP. Buying from the BLTP requires you to have money. Getting money requires you to grind/farm/repeat dynamic events. To limit us on how we can craft or lvl is super cruddy.
Atm, I am quite satisfied with the number of pets they have in game. What I would like to see more is some sort of pet evolution. Maybe after you accumulate a certain amount of xp using a certain pet, it becomes bigger, looks more fearsome, and gains some sort of pet armor.
