bump for support again, make sure this always stays in the first few pages!
I’m going to build a new computer soon with all the latest hardware and want to set up multiple monitors. Since I have never done this for gaming purposes I have a few questions:
If I want to double my horizontal aspect ratio by using two monitors, would it cut my toon in half where the monitors meet? Does the bezel of the monitors get in the way of anything? Is there a remedy to this, or would I have to use 3 monitors?
How about having the pet’s name stick? They go back to juvenile “Blah blah blah” every time you change pets in the management window.
I think that is what OP is trying to say
I transferred from Gates of Madness to Tarnished Coast months ago. I know it doesn’t help your case, but I kittening love it here. I was a part of Yak’s bend for most of the betas and I liked it too. Any real reason you want to move?
I think they talked about this in the past, it probably won’t be implemented for a long time. Something about it takes up a lot of unnecessary memory to remember 20+ names of pets for each individual ranger (which is the most played class atm). It wouldn’t take a lot of programming, but takes some resource management.
My input is that if they do not plan on having the naming nomenclature work for some time, just take the juvenile part out of my pet’s name. Kind of stupid when I’m at lvl cap and my pet is till considered a juvenile lmao!
Thieves require on their mobility to survive without the defensive options of the elementalist, the distractions and pets of rangers, the necromancer’s durability, or the engineer’s many ranged playstyle options. Face it, of these four classes, Thief needs the speed the most. Thief is the only one of these classes that actually melees. Besides, thief’s are supposed to be fast on their feet.
Disagree. From a rangers point of view, if you are relying on your pets to aggro, you are doing it wrong. Outside of normal PVE, pets die VERY quickly. Thieves and rangers specialize in 2 different things. A thief uses stealth and conditions to control the opponent. A ranger SHOULD rely on movement speed and better endurance regen for dodges (lightning reflexes). I suppose the only reason rangers DON’T have the 25% is that we have an elite that grants 33% speed for a little while.
Personally, I like it this way, since the elite can be specced to have a lower recharge time, so you get a nice 33% speed boost every minute or so.
Problem ic with all Kodan is that , they are all exactly the same. Their faces female /male is exactly the same. And they dont differ from one male to another.
Either way like said above , if i can vote for a race , it would be Largos.
It really wouldn’t be too unbelievable to create Kodan that are varied in looks as much as the Charr. They might introduce brown or black varieties of Kodan for instance. They might, in the next expansion, have new Kodan NPC aesthetics.
A lot is said in this post so I will try to just talk about the third Heavy Armor class you propose.
First, they will add classes to the future and I am sure another heavy armor class will be made (since there are only 2, compared to light and medium which have 3).
Second, Right now the heavy armor classes are fairly balanced. Want a burst damage class ranged or close…choose warrior. Want a defensive/ support melee class…go with guardian.
To create a class that you propose that is excellent both offensively, defensively, close range, and ranged expert is a bit of an imbalance. If all you are asking for is a version of a WARRIOR that uses magic instead, I think it will probably happen in the future.
I will bump every linux support thread I can see. Once this game and Steam officially support linux there will be very little reason NOT to run Ubuntu on my box full time.
either leaving it out of PVP or only allowing a max of 2 or 3 color variations that don’t conflict with other classes might solve it. For example:
-Guardian: Blue or Red
-Mesmer: Purple or Orange
-Necro: Black or Green
etc.
Wow, I am truly interested in what implications this would have to sPVP.
Would people be confused by what class you are based on the spell effect you have?
Can we be allowed to change SOME of the spell effect colors? You can apply this to most any class, but in particular I want to address the guardian. I want to play more of an evil-looking guardian with some dark looking armor. What I find is the immersion is broken when I do any kind of attack and every spell effect is bright blue (in my mind implying a “good” alignment). I would like it possible to change the color of the spell effects into some neutral or evil “looking” colors. For example, maybe having a choice to change your default spell color to just white, black, red, or blue. Same goes with some of the same necromancer and mesmer spells. I would love for my mesmer to have white or green combo fields or butterflies.
Not saying allow a full spectrum, but just allow a few extra colors of color so we can coordinate some cosmetics…thnx!

A fair amount of profession changes this patch, but a lot of concerns I read from players on these forums seem to have gone unaddressed. When can we expect a truly big update to address balancing and bugs?
I also feel communication isn’t that great. Can you guys be better about letting the community know what profession issues you are looking at? Can you defend/justify your balancing decisions to the community? Nobody likes being nerfed, perhaps if you would elaborate on your design decisions that would promote more understanding… and less resentment.
I see nothing wrong with this. It would make for more lengthy patch notes as well as more time on their part to explain the changes, but I think it would ease a lot of tension on these forums.
I too would like COMPLETE patch notes, most players will read them in their entirety, so it couldn’t hurt.
Why is it that the portrait of the marsh drake looks different then the model? In game the marsh drake is just a recolored salamander drake. I love that prehistoric look the marsh drake shows in the pet pic. There are swamp drakes that have the RIGHT character model in PVE, why didn’t they just use that for our marsh drakes?
I was actually leader of AC Branch 2 this weekend. We completed everything and before I had a chance to accept my Ascalonian Tears, it kicked my entire party from the dungeon. Luckily, the window was still opened and allowed me to accept my rewards…but dam what a sinking feeling when I hit the loading screen!
Kind of. The closest thing to it would be to create a Native American looking norn and wearing their cultural armor.
Now this I disagree with. The posters saying the leap has a very obvious animation have a point. It does have a clear animation, if you don’t pay attention to the most dangerous mobs in the entire dungeon then the fault lies with you.
One shot kill mechanics aren’t bad when they can be spotted and avoided if you pay attention to them.
As I said, my problem with scavengers lies with the fact that their full leap/pin animations go through even when their leap is blocked/dodged/whatever. As I said in a previous post, I think it should work like Colossus Rumblus’ leap. It makes sense, it punishes players that don’t pay attention and forces them to adhere to mechanics, and doesn’t create dead zones in the boss/mob area that in my opinion, shouldn’t be there unless the scavenger actually has someone pinned.
Chewing on air shouldn’t be knocking people down, the leap and only the leap should.
THERE IS an obvious problem with trash mobs one shotting you. If I have spent many days and pieces of gold to make myself vitality or toughness armor and am specced to take more then a few hits…I DAM WELL BETTER survive getting hit once by ANY trash mob. If for ANY enemy your toons stats are ignored, that is very poor design. I don’t die from scavengers often, but when I do it is garbage.
Hello everybody.
Thanks for letting us know! This information will be passed on to the team.
Thanks again and sorry for the inconveniences.
Does this mean that the Dev Team didn’t know about this issue previously?!
The last patch I got a 3 hour warning and was in the middle of a dungeon. An hour later it disconnected one person and had kicked me and another fellow out of the dungeon group…but were still in the instance with everyone. ’Twas very odd.
Here is how I run it with my guildies…works EVERY time and both harvesters always stay up. For this strategy you will need 2 elementalists with ice bow:
1) Have each elementalist spawn an ice bow and partner with someone, you should have 2 groups of 2 ice archers.
2) The left-over fellow can kite the mobs that get close to the harvesters, it only takes a few hits before you aggro all the lizards off of the harvesters.
3) Each ice bow group takes turns taking out each burrow using the 4 ability (should be the AOE attack). It only takes 2 shots from that attack to kill a burrow. In this way you can have a burrow done 2 secs after it spawns.
tips:
-you might have to fail the first few times to get the order of the burrows correctly
-helps to do it as a guild with VOIP
well you have 2 options to prevent him from bugging
a) kill oozes before entering the room (yup they are the main reason he gets bugged there)
b) when entering room, turn left to prevent oozes from spawning (no oozes, no problem)
I don’t recall skipping the oozes when we entered the chamber. I will keep this in mind the next time I do this. Thanks for the heads up!
ever heard of stun breaking abilities? useful, in case you are bad luck brian, who gets pinned down a lot. or you could just interrupt them with cc (yes… before they leap)
P.S. if you meant just to whine, then i don’t need your thread. it doesn’t make any sense to me to read some player complaining about mob, which 99% experienced ac farmers have no problem evading.
1) I’m convinced the back to back insta-death tackle is a bug. Stun-locking is not an fun way to win/lose a fight. I have farmed AC enough times to buy every piece of exotic but one and can finish a run in a little less then an hour. Don’t dismiss a “broken” part of the game on the premise that there is a work around. What about people who have never done AC before?
2) If you are going to complain about someone complaining…then why would you comment this thread that you “don’t need”. Blows my mind with the amount of ignorance in that statement.
We’re very aware it is happening with bunches of structures (bunches being a super technical design term). The fix SHOULD fix a lot of situations.
Are you also aware of this bug having to do with targeting?
If the player disables auto-target (so it doesn’t get targeted again), then deselects the burrow and just aims their attacks in its direction, they will all hit without problem. You don’t have to circle or do any weird stuff.Don’t ever have to target the burrow at all just swing/shoot in general direction and everything will land.
That is pretty much exactly what is written in my post.
Its easy to melee something without aiming…but shooting a bow without targeting?! Not a reasonable way to bypass the bug.
Not only this, but if you survive their first wave of “tackle-chew” they stun-lock you into another guaranteeing death everytime you get tackled.
There is no way to open the door unfortunately. I’ve had this happen twice to me. Only thing to do is to BE SURE to have everyone in your group report the bug. We can only fix this by raising awareness.
only reasonable way to do so would be to take a screenshot with the UI enabled to see all player names. You would probably have to email this to ANET directly.
Also all food says it gives you a +10 exp boost per kill. It should read +10% exp boost. Very confusing to players that just begin.
wow TIL, thanks for that insight. I don’t see how that in ANY way would discourage bots, I don’t think anything but the most sophisticated bot programs are able to salvage materials.
I bought this game so that I could play with my friends. But we couldn’t even do a heart together.
why couldn’t you do a heart together? Also if you want to play with your friends:
1) Get to lvl 35 and start running dungeons with friends. You should gain lvls rapidly
2) WvW
3) PvP
Good question…just got a halloween skin for shoulders, yesterday…I thought that the time to obtain halloween things had passed.
Staves are already in the game. But I’m guessing 2 Hand Axes will eventually make it into the game. I’d also like to see Crossbows, Polearms and flails.
Sorry, I meant like a melee staff. One used for the thorough pumelling of another’s skull.
That would be a quarterstaff
I think it would be a great weapon for a guardian for some reason.
Or possibly a rogue. That way, I can play as Robin Hood xD
Sorry, I’ve always called it a Bo =P
I’m guessing they will implement these new weapons to compliment the introduction of new classes. I could def see the quarterstaff coming with some kind of sage, monk, or martial artist role.
I have well over 500g + dusk, and thanks for your input
As Slark says above, with that much gold…just craft up to 80, shouldn’t take more then a day. . . map completion should be a breeze.
I was just saying why I don’t like hitting up low level zones. Picking up items that sell for 6-10 copper sucks. I’d rather have grays because at least they stack.
I agree, but it would allow a lvl 80 to hit up lvl 60 areas with a minimal hit to loot chance. A lvl 70 to farm lvl 50…etc. etc. It would encourage SOME redistribution of the populace.
I don’t like playing low level zones because they drop low level loot. I’m fine picking up some of the crafting mats cause I can drop those in collectibles but almost all the low level stuff that drops isn’t worth picking up. Making them drop only high level gear would present another problem, though, as low level gear could then only be obtained by low level characters. Maybe a way to toggle what kind of loot you want dropped? IDK.
If I understand your point correctly you want the ability for a higher level character to pick up lower lvl loot? I don’t quite get why you would want this, other then the context of crafting materials (I think crafting mats should stay to the lvl relevant to that area). Any other loot should scale to your lvl. If you want lower lvl items from the same area, just farm with your lower lvl character who will be using them.
high level characters do pick up both high and low level loot when visiting lower level zones. When I go through a low level zone I get a mix of 72-80 gear and 1-10 gear. Most of the 1-10 gear just plain ain’t worth my bag space.
But then high level character can just cheese their way out in low lvl zone hoping for a rare/exotic as compare to farming in curse shore.
Nah. There are other ways to motivate high lvl players to return to a lower lvl zone, and changing loot drop isn’t one of them imo.
That is why a system should be put in place so that the likelihood of getting a rare or better loot is a function of lvl difference. Meaning a lvl 80 farming a lvl 20 area would have a much lower likelihood of getting a good loot drop then a lvl 50 toon. However, the rewards they DO get would still be scaled for their respective lvls (i.e. a lvl 80 would get mostly white loot in a lvl 10 area)

I don’t remember if it was character specific or not. You’d have to look at the experience decay to be sure.
As for salvaging globs, do you mean that you have to farm mats on different characters? As far as I know actual salvaging of items is not related to DR.
There’s no reason to revisit the areas you’ve done. I think they need to give incentives for people to return to the areas.
They need to make mult-tier heart vendors. First time you finish it the heart turns yellow and you get to buy something from NPC. If you go back, and redo the quest and help the NPCs, the heart might turn red, green, blue, purple etc, and should all have better rewards that you can buy, like dyes, maybe new armor skins, hats, hair pins, weapon skins that you can apply dyes, or maybe even one time temporary things like bulk buying certain foods for cheap etc.
That is good design.
the colour of the heart could fade over time as well so you can keep going back to do them. And every time you do you recieve a nice reward. Something like 3 U-dye or 1 R-dye. Fine transmutation stone…. etc.Something people generally need.
Not some green weapons the only thing they’re good for is vendoring.
I LOVE THIS IDEA!! Also I think it would be a good idea to have loot be upscaled. Perhaps it could have less of a chance of getting something good compared to your current lvl area or something. That or uplvling for loot could be implemented only when involved in a DE. Right now 75% of the DEs I run into don’t have anyone else in them, so I pass them by.
As someone who has tried map completion as I lvl up, it’s not as worth it. I will usually outlvl the rewards for that area before completing it and end up just moving to the next lvl area. Get as far as you can with map completion for each area, but continue moving on. Once you get to lvl 80, finish up what was left over.
Once people hit level 80 and finish getting their gear, you’ll find people going to low level zones again for 100% map completion and dailies. Population of areas depend on timezone, server, popularity and luck. You can’t base your case on some empty patches you hit. I’m on my way to 100% map completion and usually the low level Human, Norn and Asura zones have plenty of players. Usually 4-5 people per event.
Its all about timing my friend.
I beg to differ. I am usually on in the mornings for a few hours and again later at night (CST). One of my alts around lvl 30 sees maybe half a dozen people in passing for zones of her lvl. I can usually be in an area for several hours and see nothing on the map chat also. They NEED to implement some kind of uplvling for loot in lower lvl areas to redistribute the populas.
ANet has been very hush hush about the specifics of DR. If you have DR on you it effects both experience and loot drops for a particular area in PVE. Best way to keep track of DR is to keep a record of how much xp you get per kill. Once that starts to dimininish greatly…you know you have hit DR. Expect loot to go from mostly junk (normal), to total junk, to nothing at all.
The entire DR system is ridiculously designed and does absolutely nothing to what it set out to do. The purpose of a drop/ exp DR in pve is used to prevent botting, as well as forcing player to do other content of the game.
But botting still exist – all botters have to do is set their pathway long enough to cover different zone and they can farm to their heart’s content. Meanwhile legit player who wishes to farm are forced to travel long distance so they can bypass the DR.
And to add oil to the fire, the entire game is based upon the premises of farming. Don’t believe me? take a look at the ridiculous amount of things needed for dungeon skins and crafted items. You have a DR on glob. You have a DR in dungeon. So you are forced to salvage items SLOWLY, and grind through dungeon SLOWLY.
Anet wants you to play every part of their content, and they’re punishing you for wanting your own ways to make money, having your own ways to have fun. How about a little less “communist manifesto” and a little more freedom? How about a little less grind and a little more rewards? How about making your legendary weapon actually obtainable by the common mass?
Have a look at all the other leveling zone. They all feel empty. Tons of dynamic events are left unfinished. How are new players supposed to have fun with no one to play around with and forced to do events all by themselves, especially when only few of the dynamic events are scaled by the number of participant participating?
I agree with most of what you say. I was one of the louder objectionists when they first announced DR and left the details of it out. TBH, they should take the DR out completely and find better ways to manage bots, mainly just hire more GMs and volunteer GMs (paid with gems or something). However, since the release of DR I have yet to hit it once, especially with the more recent tweaks and bug fixes to it. Case in point: there was a bugged area in Gendarran Fields on my server that infinitely spawned undead. I sat there an farmed the area with a dozen other people for more then an hour without hitting DR.
Again, I am not a proponent of DR, but I think most of the concern about it is sensationalized.
Staves are already in the game. But I’m guessing 2 Hand Axes will eventually make it into the game. I’d also like to see Crossbows, Polearms and flails.
Sorry, I meant like a melee staff. One used for the thorough pumelling of another’s skull.
As time goes by more weapons will be added. A two handed axe sounds nice.
Agreed. Weapons I see on the horizon: Staff, Spears, Halberds, Glaives, 2H Axes, Crossbows, Gauntlets, etc.

came here to actually post this…+1 for you
well, we rangers got an official reply from the devs. THE POWER OF CONSOLIDATION! If you could get necros to rise up, I’m sure you all will get an official message as well.
Where do you see gem cards on sale at gamestop? I tried looking on their website to no avail. Last I heard gem cards were only being sold to one chain in some EU game retail franchise. If they were on sale at gamestop, they should have prices listed on their website.
The first month or two. If there was a subscription, I would’ve put it down already. That’s long enough for me. An open beta for a few hours is long enough for me to tell what the game is about, since I don’t play any game I’m not enjoying much longer than the instant I’m not enjoying it. When you’ve been playing them long enough, you can spot problems instantly, because you’ve seen them all before. It all comes down to how quickly those problems are fixed and if its fast enough to keep you playing. Luckily, rolling an alt is enough to keep me playing for a little while longer until endgame issues and Necro problems are addressed. Since there’s no fee, I can pop back in to see whats being fixed. In the past that was never possible due to the subscription, so I guess its a bonus.
A month or two would be unreasonable to the majority of people. To manage several thousand people over dozens of servers…the miles of code…droves of complaints…do you mean a month or two before major fixes are being implemented? I was trying to ask how long before I should expect a game without MAJOR flaws (ie bugs that break class mechanics, progress blocking bugs, etc.).
you are right about raising awareness. Unfortunately ANet moves all of the ranger concern threads to this limbo forum, where Devs are likely to never reply. As we speak there is a thread about Necros on the discussions page that still remains (it is about as old as the ranger threads).
Brazen, I doubt they’re just trying to stick it to all Rangers. It may just be bad luck, or there may be a reason they’re leaving this open.
In any case, they can do both at the same time. A content maker can’t necessarily fix bugs efficiently, and vice versa, that’s why I bet they have two teams that do it separately—in which case it doesn’t matter how much content they add.
I think the main concern here is primarily the silence regarding rangers from ANet. It would be nice to see some fixes, but would satiate our hunger if ANet would at least tell us what is in the works for a fix/ what will never be fixed/ future for rangers.
