Honestly dude, if you enjoy FT, you will LOVE nades/bombs. FT is our weakest kit by a looong way imo, the animation (of flame jet) reaching double the range of the actual hits doesn’t help either. (why the fug is that still an issue 9 months in by the way? Perhaps it is only an issue for large races? i.e. Charr?)

Pick up the elixir gun and run a condi/elixir build, you will thank me, seriously x

For WvW where you can pick up real Knights (power, prec, toughness [vitality is trash in PvP without tough]) run a nade/bomb build and enjoy some of the most brutal AoE in the game (although, hardest to land).

Advice for those who have undue trouble with thieves:

  • travel to the heart of the mists
  • fix your build and improve your skills through playing sPvP
  • realise you were probably just bad
  • enjoy killing thieves

thieves with near perma stealth are a total kitten, and hopefully will be slightly adjusted with mesmer (the other berserker class), but it’s a fine line and thereforetheyare still very much defeatable

Lets hearken back to a time when culling was in the game. A lot of people went on the forums talking about how it could never be fixed and would never be fixed. As we know now, culling did get fixed.

Well yes but that’s a different thing entirely. Culling was a ‘feature’ that could be turned on/off with a single switch at any time. They tried to make culling work but in the end they gave up and turned it off

um… not quite brobeans. They spent a kittentonne of money and engineering hours to make it possible to run the game well without culling. It wasn’t a feature, itwas a necessity.

This is why you see and will see culling in other current and all near future mmos.

Personally, I really like the backpacks… Honestly one of my favourite things about my engineer, I wish I could use the starter one in sPvP…

I’d be pretty devastated if they got rid of the current backpacks completely. If anything changes, it should either be a show/hide toggle and/or alternate pack styles to choose from.

Honestly, Mesmer is OP, just not at all to the extent suggested.

Mesmer is so stromg due to their abundant stunbreakers/stealth and trash clones which create physical barriers between enemies allowing them to run full zerker stats and maintain very significant survivability.

Shatter combo’s are capable of near instantaneous takedowns and the iDuelist is extremely hard to counter whilst hitting very hard.

Realistically, mind wrack and the iDuelist should scale slightly lessefficiently with power to balancethis.

Nades aren’t considered OP by anyone, with the ground targeting, slow cast and travel plus being affected by reflects and their susceptibility to causing death by retaliation. I wouldn’t expect a grenades nerf ever to be honest.

Just like the title says, a little tick box like we have for helm/shoulders/gloves that hides the shield when sheathed so we can see our back slot items.

Speedy kits is brilliant, 10 points in a good trait-line for 33% speed and a free utility slot is a far better deal than the 25% speed from signets . Could not be happier with the speed set-up we have.

Remember, some classes have no access to speed outside one single offhand weapon…

Firstly for anyone wondering: the bleed cap doesn’t actually exist as a balance tool.

It is a significant issue for PvE content due to the fact it renders more than 1 condition dealer per encounter totally irrelevant, meaning the second player may as well not exist, as they do no damage.

Fortunately this issue doesn’t really factor into sPvP as it’s really difficult to stack 25 bleeds on a single target here anyway, but it does create problems in WvW, albeit to less of a degree than in PvE.

The reason it exists is apparently related to preserving server performance, so there’s really no need to devise alternatives to bleed, ANet just needs the time to figure out how to handle the calculations, probably a complex task.

It would be nice if conditions over the cap just did some form of balanced direct damage as a temporary fix in the mean time though…

Balance wise, the condition cap needs to be fixed. It was mentioned months ago that some sort of change was in the works, yet this is obviously a complicated problem (the cap exists to preserve server performance or some such thing, it is not a balance measure, clearly).

As far as PvE goes this video does a pretty good job of explaining reasons why PvE isn’t any good in this game. It’s not really a class issue, it’s a content design issue.

Dodge is one of, if the the MAIN reason this game is so skill based. It would be absolutely disastrous to the quality and success of this game in PvP and as a whole if dodge were to be removed or messed with as you suggest.

Classes with addition endurance regen through vigor/traits require it as part of their PvP survivability balance, this is blatantly obvious. Please take a moment to actually consider how quickly and easily you would simply demolish those rangers/ele’s in your example as a full shatter Mesmer if you remove their main source of defense. This eventuality would not be balanced, nor fun.

You will get used to timing your attacks and baiting dodges as your skill improves, don’t stress too soon.

If you’re desperate for simply seeing the highest numbers, you’ll probably have the most success with a full zerker Thief or Mesmer as you can rely much more on stealth and deception for survivability.

Personally I’d recommend you find a class who’s mechanics you enjoy and head over to their specific forums for related advice, they are all viable and effective in both PvP and WvW.

Hey guys, has there been any word on why the Knight’s stats in PvP are V/pow/prec instead of T/pow/prec as in the overworld?

Personally I’d prefer the high toughness over the vitality, has there been discussion in relation to adding a T/p/p version as well? (Or even using a 4 stat split with vit and tough in addition to the power and precision, which would be ideal :P)

Having additional hardships and events attached to weather + day/night cycles would be incredible, both for game-play and immersion. I’d love to see this level of detail present in GW2 or a future MMO if it remains too far down the list of intended expansion for this game.

It cannot be emphasized enough how important it is that any new content (and also preferably the existing content) is balanced for reward vs difficulty. This is one of the current major issues with the game.

My spvp character is dressed exactly the same as my pve/wvw one except it isn’t carrying a legendary…i don’t see a problem.
Maybe you should actually try spvp one day. Takes 1 day to get a nice suit.

I think its a great idea. I dont think the devs thought about it really. Probably the arena gametype automatically equips us in such gear equal to what we have in sPvP so most of it was probably automatic. Maybe for future events they can take a look at changing the structure so that others can look cool

Reward disparity and the Dragon BaII Z

In the 7+ minutes it takes to play a round you can get WAY more dragon coffers grinding PvE, players are currently making 100+ an hour.

This game currently sees such vast reward disparity between grinding out ezmode bland PvE trash content (CoF/openworld trash farming) and the more challenging/engaging content (WvW/Fractals).

How about we change that at least ONCE on something minor and see how it goes?

Make the Dragon Ball reward:

Winning team: 6 coffers + 3 for top score player, 2 for second, 1 for third

Losing team: 2 coffers, 4 candy + 3 coffers for top score player, 2 coffers for second, 1 coffer for third

This would potentially alleviate all the AFK/‘quitting if team is losing’ bullkitten we are seeing while making the mini game built for the kitten festival actually worth doing on a reward level.

Of course the farmers can still make more coffers per hour so they stay happy but the rest of us get to enjoy the festival game as compensation.

Sound fair/reasonable? Discuss.

Veteran Shatter Mesmers: 2v1? How?

You cannot win 1v2+ against good players as any class/build, period.

All the WvW roaming vids where you see players destroying multiple dudes to electro tracks, those enemies are terrible players, or at the very best are terrible in comparison to the guy posting the video.

You can test this yourself, head into WvW and go roaming. Assuming you are pretty decent you WILL win a lot of 1v2+ fights, but in tPvP against strong players with decent builds? No chance.

This probably doesn’t apply to you so much, but I’d like to put down anyone it might help: Beating multiple players for me I feel is firstly and primarily about simply being quick. Having strong mechanics – that is always moving, always doing something, always having the next move ready – is the most important factor dividing strong players from the weaker. 1v2+ is all about the difference in basic skill between you and your opponents.

No it doesn’t…

You get a box for every tournament you win, netting you a full set of gear faster than running dungeons. If you are actually skilled and play with a consistency even slightly resembling the slavish devotion PvE farmers show to CoF, you’ll have a full set inside a “day”.
No-one gets gear from the kittened glory grind…

Yeah, no offense, but you played really badly in that video. Even wasted BOTH dodges before any attacks came your way then wasted your stealth…

You also use no stun breakers and took then entire stun right to the face…

The condition damage didn’t even begin to factor into that battle, it’s definitely not a good example video when calling for a condition nerf.

You have to remember that skill and familiarity with a class/build factors heavily into fights, you were fighting a better player here and were completely outplayed. A 100b zerk warrior could have killed you just as easily here with basically the exact same tactic and you’re not calling for a nerf to stun.

I agree that a strong Phantasm build is hard to beat but it is entirely possible.
Perhaps there needs to be nerfs to phantasm builds somehow, but certainly not to condition damage.

No-one should be having undue trouble vs a GS/sword-pistol mes. Without even considering the fact that GS currently has very heavily bugged damage, that weapon combo has NO survivability.

AoE and terrain cause huge amounts of trouble for phantasms and a phantasm build is basically only good in 1v1 play for that reason.

If you are having significant trouble vs Mesmer I would recommend playing the class to get a feel for it. sPvP provides the option to mess about with a maxed rank 80 of any class really easily. It’s great for getting a better perspective on class balance, because the reality is that all classes have some really solid builds.

The thing I really like about GS/Staff is that it allows you to build zerker and still be extremely effective in zerg vs zerg where you can use the range to survive and absolutely melt your targets with high dps.

Are you using the correct guy? There are two NPCs. One is by the exit gate, the other is by the mystic forge.

Just making sure that you’re not mistaking the sPvP guy for the tPvP guy. There are two modes and they’re not the same thing.

Lel… Yes. I know, hence why I mentioned the recent-ish change in tourny style (3 round elimination to 1 round) that came with the vendor for free tokens. Thought the change might have also removed paid tokens from the salvage tables…

I prefer a GS/Staff zerk shatter to anything else.

I have had a very significant amount of success with this build: Probably Best Build Ever

For sPvP I run divinity runes, for WvW and PvE I run Melandru runes with lemongrass soup for the reduced condition duration.

Played well this build can be confusing to fight and hits hard.

In WvW I would also recommend swaping Mirrored Images for Feedback when zerging.

Good luck finding a build to suit you, and remember: a focused build that suits your playstyle will be far more enjoyable and probably just as effective (if not more so) than whatever the community has deemed is the current ‘meta’. x

Really? It can be hard to tell in the heat of PvP battle but I’m 100% sure mobs in PvE block summons at least with dodge, surely it’s the same for players…

Zerker Mesmer?

Mesmer’s can glean a lot of survivability from the confusing nature of their clones and multiple teleports, therefore they are more free to build full zerker than most classes.

The current meta is:
-full zerker
-ogre runes
-energy sigils
-staff + sword/focus
-20, 20, 0, 0, 30 spec

There is always room for variation though, I personally still love the Greatsword playstyle despite the iZerker phantasm being kittened at the moment. I swap sword/focus for the GS (slot and air sigil) and keep the staff for survivability to play a ranged nuke mes with a great deal of success.

Phantasm Spec Mesmers are not really some mystical level of OP. I certainly never have any particularly unusual amount of trouble with them.
Perma stealth thieves are much more challenging IMO…

It’s not “elitist” to try to educate people on why trash builds/gear are trash compared to what’s actually good. Big problem in this game is that there’s no hard comparisons between builds so everyone runs around thinking they’re awesome just because they see a few white numbers popping up that of course are larger at 80 than they were at 50.

I don’t get why so many bad players in this game take it so personally when they’re told their favorite class/build is total garbage compared to what’s actually good. It’s not a personal attack, so just suck it up and blame the game and developers for not having a better way for you to know how crappy things are in relation to the best of the best builds. It’s ridiculously easy to re-roll as a better class and build.

Also, just as a fun extension, this is the exact reason people whine so much about class balance. In reality it is simply NOT possible to even 1v2 a pair of averagely skilled players with decent builds. The PvP in this game is heavily reliant on skill and the players ability to make a focused build which has synergy with their play-style.
If you are getting owned, it’s very unlikely to be a class issue.

Any chance we’ll ever see dungeon loot scale with the difficulty of the run?

It seems quite odd that the easiest dungeon in the game (CoF) provides rewards equal to the other story dungeons which take significantly more time and effort to complete. This being particularly problematic in the case of high level Fractals of the Mists which far eclipse Citadel of Flames in difficulty and required play time yet provide ridiculously inferior rewards.

Should there not be more emphasis placed on improving your skills to tackle the most challenging content and in return earn the greatest rewards? In it’s current incarnation the game encourages exactly the opposite, funneling players into the simplest, most boring content.
