This is something you would pick up in one single run through during playtesting. Was there seriously no testing AT ALL on this release?
This entire patch has been an embarrassment.
It still looks absolutely kittening kitten on Charr mate, they still have absolutely no idea how to build gear for the race.
The state of armour aesthetics in this game is a complete embarrassment.
Whoever built the Charr cultural needs to be re-hired so they can fix/build armours that aren’t kittening disgusting for once.
Game is turning into a kittening cash grab farce by the looks anyway. What a waste of solid gameplay.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
The whole thing is a disgrace. Instead of kittening over the players by hatefully retexturing skins, why could they not spend the now wasted time fixing the plethora of kittened up skins for non-human races?
What the absolute kitten is happening at this company?!
Either one would have been entirely up to the quality of the writers and content designers, I haven’t played this one yet but if it sucks total kitten like the rest of this ridiculous, hateful patch then I’m confident that the Abbadon fractal would have been just as kitten.
The class feels very “Charr” and their voices/attitude are more appealing in my opinion.
Charr have massive issues aesthetically, however.
From backpiece issues to horrendous clipping/warping on armour, Charr are generally unpleasant to look at.
If I had the abilityto change race, I would in a heartbeat. I thought things would improve our at least new armour would fit, but every set released since launch has been hideous.
The aesthetic issues will get to you eventually, trust me.
ANet have mentioned nothing regarding effort towards fixing these issues other than to say that Charr is the least popular race, thus not worth the effort.
I doubt things will change any time soon.
Would love to see fixes start rolling out for the plethora of aesthetic issues suffered by Charr. (Clipping, Warped textures, 2-handed backpiece floating, etc).
Is this a commitment the team is considering for any time in the near future?
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Same as in any team PvP game with a solo queue, yep.
I’m confident you get the reward for your achievements.
I assume you won’t get the three bonus win chests from BG though, you will get the number of chests that IoJ have earned from the season.
I think body type has a bit to do with it. The warped textures look worse on larger body types, etc.
Personally the armour is too rigid, it looks natural on other races but too obvious it’s just a quick stretch to fit job for Charr.
Tail clipping really shouldn’t be an issue like it is, why the devs can’t build armour to actually fit any more is strange.
Regardless, check the armour out in the sPvP lockers to see if it’s something you could put up with.
On Charr, back items will move from the standard back piece position on all races to sit on the character’s shoulders and float when wielding a two-handed weapon.
Very nice, great vid!
Anything involving Perplexity that isn’t a fix for the 6th rune bonus is extremely unwelcome.
I would like to see Knight’s amulet/jewel come to sPvP to allow more balanced power builds.
I assume they’ve been trying to figure out a way to check if you have ascended weapons and scale appropriately.
Pure speculation, though.
You should play one OP.
The best strategy for both improving your PvP skills and maintaining a reasonable understanding of power distribution between classes is always to play the builds you feel are the most powerful.
Additionally you must always consider the player skill factor. Too often this is ignored.
Right, so you’ve arbitrarily decided that it’s always good to spam your condition cooldowns but not your DD cooldowns.
There are plenty of times, just with direct damage, that using a condition cooldown will be sub-optimal. They are generally the exact same times you wouldn’t use your DD skill.
The current issue with conditions is players expect to NEVER lose against a condition class. They expect burst DPS to be the one and only spec for PvP, just as it is for PvE.
- They refuse to slot cleanse
- They refuse to accept that blocks/dodges/blinds affect conditions just the same as DD
- They refuse to accept that DoT damage is slower than DD burst thus NEEDS higher defensive stats to allow time to wear an opponent down.
Please for yourselves and the sake of these forums: Go build and play a condition specced character.
If you are suddenly an unstoppable PvP god, congratulations.
What you will undoubtedly find however, is that you are not suddenly invincible, that cleanse is extremely powerful and that you have to play well, just as with your previous DD character, to achieve success.
Good luck out there.
Separated by class, but more importantly RACE.
The current state of armour for non-human races is often abysmal, especially for Charr.
Any attempt at legendary armour absolutely must not be the warped copy-pasted human models we’ve seen with every new set since launch.
Homogenisation wouldn’t be fun in my opinion.
The relatively solid balance would be thrown off, or at least much harder to maintain.
It sounds cool, but when you consider the truths above, I for one am not particularly keen for this.
If it could be done without homogenization and massive balance issues though, I’m absolutely all for it.
Improving my skills and optimizing my build, mostly. I spend the majority of my time in sPvP or WvW. The hunt for the perfect set-up is what keeps this game infinitely entertaining where others slow down.
I have also been mucking about in fractals every now and then to get my ascended back one day, looking forward to the next patch breathing some life into them. I’ve been playing through on my zerktard Mesmer too, gonna be nice to dive in with my Engineer when levels are account bound.
I personally enjoy the living story as well (gameplay wise, the story has left much to be desired so far), GW2 is the only MMO in which I’ve actually enjoyed PvE (holy trinity/tank and spank combat of WoWesque games is mind numbingly boring in experience) and the PvE has been improving significantly through the fortnightly updates.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
I prefer anyone who tries to stay within melee range.
DD Ele, dagger Thief, most Guards, most Warriors, power Necros & FT engineers.
I do well with Mesmer in sPVP, but engineer i cannot figure out how to do it?? Any tips?? I like condition builds but i know sPVP doesnt really offer that.
Actually the opposite, sPvP is almost the only place you’ll see condition builds outside of WvW roaming. Condition are terrible for PvE because of the stack restriction due to server performance issues.
Consequently, this is possibly why many people consider conditions OP when they enter sPvP, having not experienced condi builds in WvW, especially where AoE cleanse is spammed for near immunity, they expect to get away without taking conditions into consideration.
Rabid and Rampagers amulets are available for condition builds. Check http://intothemists.com/ for build guides.
Here is my favourite build, although the december patch will kill it, so I have been playing around with this in preparation for the upcoming changes.
Good luck.
I thought the same when I first gave the Engineer a go. It takes some getting used to and requires a lot higher apm than most other classes, at least for kit heavy builds. From my experience, if you can play Engineer well, you’ll have the mechanical skill to play anything.
If you prefer more complex gameplay, Engineer is a lot of fun and the class is just as good as all the others once you’re familiar with it’s mechanics.
There tends to be a rotation of players complaining the Engineer is OP, then a few days later, maybe after people try to jump on the bandwagon, players complaining that the Engineer is terrible.
Pretty hilarious.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Account bound levels is fantastic. The majority of players could not be kittened leveling new characters all the way back to max, and anyone already at max already understands the encounters. Playing a new character changes nothing.
Most importantly, you can already jump to max level on a fresh character without having leveled there.
On the rewards, they are keeping the daily for every 10 levels. It’s too important for keeping lower levels populated, it would be a huge mistake to remove it. I doubt they ever considered it.
The only change here is a convenience one.
/thread.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
There are Necromancer NPCs in the Ash Legion
Unfortunately even many of those still suffer from really ugly stretched/contorted textures, etc. Most of the non-clipping medium/light still looks absolutely terrible for this reason.
Heavy is generally pretty decent though.
So armour that actually looks OK:
Med (coat slot):
- Assassin
- Rascal
- Cultural
Light (pants slot):
- Orrian
- Tactical
- Cultural 1 & 2
thus people mostly only play Charr heavies

As with every class you have to BUILD for cleanse. Engineers have a plethora of options available to them here.
The reason condi is occasionally proclaimed OP on these forums is because some players (ridiculously) refuse to incorporate cleanse into their builds and then, as should be reasonably expected, have trouble with condition pressure.
Additional cleanse is utility, thus costs a utility slot, as it should.
Also, passive cleanse (ranger style) should absolutely be kept to a minimum, it’s weak gameplay.
Step 1: Play condition specced character.
Step 2: Realise conditions aren’t OP.
Step 3: Go back to whatever class/spec you prefer.
Good luck out there.
There have been class and game breaking bugs in the game since Beta and they have still not been fixed. It took the developers months and months to fix Necro downed state health – which was a massive issue.
Given the time it takes to resolve said issues, I would not expect action quickly.
Those were presumably difficult bugs to fix. They can just straight up remove perplexity until they’ve had time to look at the runes, something you can’t do with an entire class.
honestly thinking about just maining my engi or necro and sheling my other classes.
You should.
So many hotjoin heroes coming to the forums complaining about whatever they aren’t playing being OP. It’s the same with every game but that doesn’t make the behaviour any less ridiculous.
Try every class. Try as many builds as possible. It helps you gain a realistic perspective.
I think perhaps everyone is missing the sarcasm.
OP is saying he doesn’t want PvE kittening with our PvP.
Perplexity confusion duration (not the buff, the duration on the stacks) is way too long (over double the duration of class confusions skills)
Perplexity stacks have no cooldown, given their power and duration this is ridiculous.
So:
- Reduce perplexity confusion stack duration from 10sec > 5sec. (brings duration in line with other confusion skill).
- Force cooldown on confusion stacks, 20+ seconds. (longer than similar “on hit” effects due to being vastly more powerful).
- Living world skins free from unlock bank
- Other skins cost Trans crystals to withdraw to preserve ANet profits.
Perfect solution guys, devs lose no profit while providing a huge boost in convenience to players. Hopefully ANet sees this and makes it happen
How the kitten are these runes still in the game? It’s been months…
Why are we still forced to pick between PvP or PvE for living story meta achievement items?
Have you considered placing living story rewards in the same “unlock” bank as the achievement chest rewards?
Cheers.
I remember when people played PvP games for fun rather than “rewards”.
2k hours for half the price of a new Xbox game… That’s some serious value.
They’re working on a new sPvP reward system, so hopefully that solves the problem.
Good luck in whatever games you hit up until then!
…Ah, basically forcing everyone to run 30 in explosives.
Such diversity. Wow.
Constructive feedback:
- Take the third ‘Nade off grenadier so we aren’t forced into 30 explosives to use Grenades.
- Commit to work on Flamethrower to make it a viable alternative to Grenades or Bombs
- Commit to work on actually seriously fixing turrets.
- Elixir F on Elixir gun is a terrible skill, desperately in need of a significant increase to travel speed. (Currently ~80% chance to miss initially, 100% chance to miss bounce).
Options for FT fix:
- Reduced FJ cast duration, reduce direct damage accordingly (5 hits over 1.25 sec), leave burn.
- Napalm only line DPS skill in the game? Why? AoE circle please.
- Range > 600 (FT becomes mid range weapon instead of melee which we already have from Bombs/Toolkit)
- Incendiary cooldown currently astronimical, consider an edit.

Every class has a bunch of good builds dude. Find something that works for your playstyle.
You’re perhaps forgetting the latency issue OP.
Being able to work towards earning the resources to craft or buy skins
Getting the perma finisher banners are enough reward to keep the rank system in my opinion, just don’t lock skins away behind a rank barrier. This is particularly important as some races only have ~5 sets that don’t suffer dire clipping/stretching issues and all of these sets are locked behind huge rank grinds.
There needs to be more connection between PvE/WvW and PvP.
Having no stat progression is excellent and that must stay, but in regards to everything else sPvP may as well be it’s own Free-to-Play title at the moment.
This connection could be achieved through shared rewards, earn something in one and you can use it in the other. (Especially for living story one time skins, having to choose between sPvP and PvE isn’t fun).
Providing a way to earn gold through PvP is irrelevant if we can earn gear through it.
Glory can remain as the sole PvP currency, but it should have some value relative to gold and be able to be used in the TP and exchanged for GEMs.
It is probably important to be able to earn paid currency through PvP currency, as that draws a larger audience and we all know that player numbers are extremely important if you’re trying to enter the eSport scene.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
1vX is all about skill disparity. Any class can 1vX.
If you are skilled and your opponents are keyboard turning auto spammers, you will do well.
Gear/stat disparity helps as well, obviously.
So you can’t defend against them after they’ve already hit you? Kind of like direct damage attacks then?
Exactly. The point is that an attack that does 3000 damage instantly and an attack that does 3000 damage over ten seconds are no different in regards to dodging. It just feels different because the badly missed dodges happen before you actually die.
This is a very important distinction to understand when discussing power vs condi.
Its been documented and replied to in the “bug” section of the forums that there is an issue with the system not registering then you have hit 25% of your health pool. It an all around bug that is effecting many traits and not just this one. They say they are working on a fix.
Assuming this might effect 50% and 75% traits as well? I seem to be noticing reduced regularity in the activation of those traits also. Is this new or old?
Can’t find the thread after a quick search, was any of that mentioned?
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
We don’t have perma stability.
Engineers can get stability from “toss Elixir B” and I think Thumper turret.
Condi removal is offered through Healing Turret overcharge, EG #5 “super elixir”, elixir C and the trait “cleaning formula 409”.
Perhaps run HT, ’Nades, Elixir B and then a choice of Elixir S, Elixir C or EG?
Good luck regardless!
I don’t think anyone wants statistical progression, sPvP is just not the place for that.
Everyone does want a reasonably functional rewards system though, and the possibility to earn rewards otherwise locked to PvE.
People don’t like that they aren’t progressing towards earning their desired aesthetic while in sPvP.
Some are describing the mode as “a waste of time”, which doesn’t help to bring new players into the community.
It is important to appeal to a wider audience if the gametype is to reach a population capable of sustaining an eSport scene.
For lulz <—- Warrior forums complaining Rifle is underpowered.
To hit that hard the Warrior is running maxed out zerker (meaning dies very quickly) and you were running no/minimal toughness.
People recommend high toughness in WvW for good reason.
It’ll be very hard to hit a decent player without forceful explosives.
At least, that is my experience playing against/using bombs.

EDIT: entirely off topic ramblings:
Here’s some numbers from the other thread. Necro scepter average damage = 1109:
Ignoring the very important fact that the majority of this damage is dealt over 5-6 seconds.
In that time:
- Regen may be running, mitigating the damage.
- You might cleanse, preventing that damage.
You forget to mention that a direct damage auto-attack is capable of critical strikes in excess of 1k damage without taking traits/sigils into account.
In short, I didn’t read the topic!
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
…These forums.
Does anyone realise that a power/crit auto-attacks hit near 3 times the damage of burning per second?
Does anyone realise Engineer have the weakest auto-attacks in game?
Does anyone realise Dhuumfire is a grandmaster trait in a power tree?
The hyperbole in this thread…
The League of legends “ready” system that kicks you from queue if you don’t press ready in time would be an excellent way to help solve this.
