I’d be really excited to see this issue finally acknowledged, being forced to wear cultural or nothing as a Charr is pretty ridiculous, as is almost every single piece of gear being designed for humans. There are 4 other races in this game, why not start adding more armour based on their cultures too?
Because LS every two weeks. No one cares about small changes like that.
Except the majority of the posters in this thread, and the plethora of Charr and other races voicing their opinions in their specific race forums. Also everyone who participated in the Charr Armour rally in Lions Arch a month or so ago…
Unless by no-one you mean 13%+ of the community.
Living Story updates don’t change the fact that new armours are constantly being worked on, (different teams and all that) we are simply suggesting that those people take the extra time to make sure it fits Charr and if possible, build armours that suit the culture of races other than humans sometimes in the future.
I am asking for “the general opinion on Guild Commendations only being rewarded to players from the specific guild that started the mission, despite participation”.
Another way of wording it:
Reward all players who participate in guild missions with commendations! Good idea?
Thanks for the bump

Hey all, what is the general opinion on Guild Commendations only being rewarded to players from the specific guild that started the mission despite participation?
Originally the pitch was that missions would bring the community together in tackling these fun new challenges, but the implementation doesn’t succeed with that goal.
Additionally, people like myself who can’t be available on the weekend when everyone runs missions are essentially unable to participate in the content at all.
Allowing everyone who participates to be fully rewarded would help to spread the guilds running missions out over the week, as they could invite everyone in the server to participate and only a few guilds would need to run them each night.

Engineer is the best class in the game in my opinion.
As far as WvW builds go, as with any class you build toughness and defense first.
So:
- All toughness stats (Knights/Cavalier/Rabid)
- Picking up ample condition cleanse allows you to totally ignore vitality (the worst stat in the game). Engineers have a plethora of cleanse available to them which is great.
- Build to maximise boon generation and uptime, boons make a big difference.
Fortunately, engineer excels at defense, so this is how you would want to build the class regardless.
Always remember, zerker gear is for PvE. Pure DPS builds are bad in general and TERRIBLE in ZvZ.
As a Flamethrower Engi of some 400 hours experience,
The Flamethrower might not seem useable at first (it didn’t to me, being basically the guardian staff if it were nerfed roughly 50% across the board) but it can be an OK kit when compared with our others. Despite, again, oddly doing less than half the damage and hitting 3/5 the people at 2/3 the range of the guardians staff auto, the most comparable autoattack
Here’s why:
- You are more likely to hit your target than with Bombs/Nades which are easily walked away from/slow to cast and travel respectively.
- You proc on-crit effects more often (5 hits per second)
- Knockback is extremely handy for saving downed allies or simply controlling your opponent.
- The instant cast pbAoE blind is great for preventing CC while casting your finisher. (Plus a lot of people don’t realise what happened and drinking those sweet, sweet rage tears gets the testosterone flowing…)
The current big issues with FT are also issues other weapons/skills suffer from in this game:
- Cone attacks are affected by targeting, thus if a target moves too close or too far to the side the cone will fire into the floor and result in the renowned “miss, miss, miss” rubbish.
The above is a huge issue for all cone attacks not just related to the FT and should really be looked at. I personally have been intermittently posting on the suggestion forums and through in-game bug reports for some months in regards to this issue.
- The flame jet animation fires to about 600 range , while the skill itself is only effective to 400 range. This is just such a glaring and simple bug that should have been fixed before launch or at least during the post launch bug squashing. Simply fixing the effective range to 600 would bring the skills range on par with other similar skills, whilst still hitting less targets and doing less damage.
The above bug also effects other similar jet attacks in the game i.e. elixir guns fumigate and the pick-up Flamethrowers
- Any elevation can cause Flame Jet to “miss, miss, miss…”
Again, an issue for all cone AoE skills
I feel like a lot of the issues regarding specific skills on the FT will be resolved when ANet starts rolling out the earnable skills for progression, giving players the choice over what to use with the FT if abilites like skill 4 or 5 feel out of place for them.
As an interesting aside, skill 4 “Napalm” can be combo-ed with rifle 5 for a 5 second flame shield which deals burning and stacks might, but the fire field on Napalm is tiny making it frustrating at times. Napalm is definitely a skill I would personally swap out for another in a heartbeat.

Just increasing AoE abilities available to the champs as part of their scaling.
Zerging is part of any MMO and it’s something a lot of people really enjoy. Massively Multiplayer is the genre after all…
Designing systems that allow this type of play without restricting others (although in this case it isn’t unless they are unfamiliar with the guessing feature) is where energy should be focused in my opinion.
Farming locations should have no effect on getting into Arah, even if you do have to guest, just in case you didn’t know.
Depends on race, Charr look terrible in anything other than cultural in my opinion (clipping, stretching, floating shoulders, etc).
The other races tend to look great in everything, with Aetherblade/Magitech/Rascal/Dredge and the medium karma stuff looking the best for engineers.
The truth is actually the opposite, conditions are very weak in WvW and indeed any large group play.
Bringing appropriate condition mitigation is part of the skill involved in creating a successful PvP build. If you are getting wrecked by conditions, you are running a bad build.
You only want one of the two. I prefer FT for PvP (oceanic lag+cast+travel time = very easy to miss Nades) but Nades are better for PvE, putting out more damage and hitting more players.
So just pick your favourite of the two and use your extra utility slot for some utility.
Engineers have a lot of build variety and anything with AoE is going to be great for PvE but at the end of the day damage is king in that area. Perhaps check out a Static Discharge build (Static Discharge trait in tools and pick low cooldown toolbelt skills), it’s the best burst build for Engineer that I know.
There’s nothing you can really do about PvE retaliation (it’s often non-removable right?) so just be careful there, boon striping is more other classes role than engineer too.
If you want to be a part of the zerg you need toughness. WvW is about being extremely durable to outlast the other zerg, as in PvP survivability is actually greater than damage, given equal skill.
If you want to roam, remember that skill > anything else. Thus, all the videos of 1v2+ you see are great players vs abysmal players. Anyone who loses 2+v1 is terrible in this game, that is the simple truth.
I won’t post my open world build (almost identical to my tPvP build which I want to keep private for now) but I can tell you that engineers excel at survivability. Really look into the rune/trait combinations on offer and you can do some great things with engineer or any other class for that matter.
As a starting point I would suggest you run Knight’s, consider how to counter your weaknesses and get a rifle because it’s better than dual pistols in a power build and gives you decent control.
If you do intend to run a high damage build as an Engineer in WvW, I would suggest getting utilities that allow for maximum mobility, as you will be running away a lot and will need to be good at it. Good luck!
P.S. Conditions for damage are trash in fights larger than maybe 5 people (2 in PvE), when compared to direct damage equivalents. In WvW, everyone decent either runs Melandru+Lemongrass for -65% condi duration or lots of condi removal. There is also constant AoE removal in zergs, so conditions last 2 ticks at best in most cases from my experience.
Conditions are for sPvP.

It would definitely be torment walking with nails through your feet!
Fellow engineers, what would be your opinion on a patch that removes the effect of autotarget from cone AoE?
We all know that turning off autotarget solves the miss-thrower issue, but targeting anyone brings it right on back. Mouse turners will agree it can be quite the hassle to deselect your target mid fight as well.
Anyhow, opinions?
Autotarget causes cone AoE attacks to miss all the time and also angle into the ground when close enough to a target.
Turning off autotarget in settings proves a hassle as whilst it is easy to tab target, without a target any projectile skill will fire into the ground and deselecting a target can be quite difficult in the heat of combat (mouse turning) when you again want to use a cone AoE without the standard “miss, miss, miss, miss, etc” as soon as the target moves slightly to the left or right of your characters face and the cone starts firing directly at the ground.
Anyway, what are your thoughts forum?
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Seas is right, when you just mouse over the BLTC icon it just says “Coins for Pickup”.
This could be a cool little feature for some time down the road, absolutely.
Fair call.
The skill is basically useless as we are downed nearly as long as the enemy and when we do get back up they are often out of range anyway.
The skill does cure cripple/imob/chill though, which is only helpful 1v1 with the self CC but still…
Had a lot of fun reading through this, usually have no time for class suggestions but despite being OP as fug it’s well thought out, original and really sounds like fun!

Go to The Heart of the Mists and preview:
Charr T1: Shoulders, pants, coat.
Charr T2: helm, gloves, boots.
Enjoy, you’re looking at the only light gear that is legitimately excellent on Charr.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
So there was that big protest a while back in LA regarding Charr armor being pretty ess-ache-eye-tee, has there been any mention of that from the devs since then?
I’ve noticed the 2 sets which came out post protest all look terrible on Charr, ravaged by the standard issues (tail clipping, floating shoulders, terrible stretching, making a member of a gruff warrior race look like a poncey butler, etc)…
So given that those sets were probably already finished and set aside (clutching at straws here) what’s the forecast for our future attire? Hope to be had or we still have no idea?
P.S. Queen’s Gauntlet is fun as fug though ANet (Ha, look at me pretending someone actually reads this… mfw optimism…)

Not at all Donner, the more the merrier!
Now we have a build for Power Engi’s and one for Condi Engi’s
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
I really wanted to beat Liadri with my Knight’s rifle/FT engineer so I messed about until I came up with this build which was successful in beating her.
For phase 2:
- Kite her wraiths in around in a clockwise pattern.
- Use high endurance regen to dodge away from skyfalls.
- Plink away at her with rifle auto for the best damage, blunderbuss when shes close.
- Use healing turret and elixir C to cleanse all weakness (otherwise you won’t be able to kill her in time.
So if you’re in Knight’s or possibly even Soldiers gear and can’t be bothered grinding out condition gear, this is a build that is effective against Liadri.
Enjoy and good luck!
Engineers downed definitely needs a fix, our 2 is actually a negative in most situations which is totally ridiculous.
A realistic suggestion:
- Skill 1: No change
- Skill 2: Replace with 3
- Skill 3: Something original, perhaps an elixir which halts natural hp degen a couple seconds or a device which blocks projectiles a couple seconds.
Skill 3 should not be replaced with something extremely OP like a full supply drop, just something which can help keep you alive a couple seconds more.
OP, as far as your balance concerns go, I can vouch that engineers are in a good place. I play a lot of tPvP and WvW as engineer and can assure you we are balanced. Specifically on stability, we have traits to deal that weakness.
I honestly consider Engineer the best class in the game, but GW2 being so skill based, perhaps Engineer is just the class that works best for my playstyle.
Everyone must remember that a clever build is part of the skill factor almost as much as playing to your builds strengths.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
I’m not noticing this issue, even with effect LOD on… Perhaps it’s an issue with some hardware?
Your all going to be better off trying to help solve the issue than simply complaining alone.
From SoR btw, so this is in big zerg v zergs.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Either AoE damage/heals or AoE control are my favourite.
Get yourself a tanky build (PvE damage specs are not your goal in WvW, running zerker/rampager stats is for noobs, seriously, you will get your zerg killed)
For AoE dps/heal:
- Healing Turret
- Flamethrower/Nades
- Knight’s stats for max toughness
For AoE control:
- dual pistol for glue shot
- Nades for freeze
- Bombs for glue bomb
- Knight’s stats or Soldier’s since your damage isn’t important
Damaging conditions are weak in zergs, they’ll be cleansed instantly, receive -80% duration from food/runes or someone else will have already used conditions on that guy thus you do 0 damage, but AoE control spam is still effective.
Enjoy your bags.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Aside from the turret bugs theres nothing to really be concerned about.
Engi are in a pretty good place, although all classes are really looking great these days.
Bigger the character the more you will notice this.
Pity this new armour looks trash on Charr, again.
Does no-one notice that Arah medium clips through Charr legs? Looks just as terrible as everything else to me
Thought it was lag…
The reason rifle sucks in sPvP is that there are no decent power stats in sPvP besides berserker which are terrible for engineer.
Knights and Soldiers both have vitality which is a total waste of points, as all it does is devalue your healing.
Knights in PvE is a brilliant stat however, giving toughness instead of vitality the combo becomes viable.
Unless you plan to exclusively PvE, I’d not use berserker stats.
Great utilities though.
For WvW and PvE take injection. For sPvP, take both if you can, with priority going to injection.
OP, my suggestions:
- Those sigils run on the same cooldown timer. Pick one (fire) and then change the other to a passive or ‘on kill’ sigil (corruption).
- Switch to Rabid stats for vastly superior survivability, pure DPS stats only really work for Thieves or Mesmers (tonnes of evade, invuln, stealth and/or distractions).
Good luck!
OP,
Congrats on your PvE HGH burst build, it probably melts face in dungeons. For PvP success however, try:
- Toughness
- Protection (protection injection and/or protective shield traits)
For future reference:
- This wasn’t done in 1 second, it’s simply too many moves.
- Vitality is a trash stat. Ignore it unless you are going for a very heavy bunker build, as it devalues your healing and takes points away from other stats, which are all much better value. Toughness or healing power are how you build survivability.
Try sPvP as a way to optimize your build and improve your skills. Good luck!

The contest is completely RNG. There is a small amount of strategy in trying to guess when to belch and avoiding heals when his belch is up, but his extremely high health, unlimited special ability and random moves mean that you HAVE to get lucky, and multiple times at that, to win this fight.
It’s not a good minigame against these npcs, against a player it’s great, because it’s even, but the npc contests are terrible, either ridiculously hard with adnul or 2 spam fests for every other character.
Allowing players to use all special moves in this fight might introduce enough strategy to make it enjoyable.
I love the backpack. I was so jealous that I couldn’t transmute one for my thief that I ended up rerolling an Engineer just for the coolest looking backpack in the game.
You can transmute the starting Engi starting one and wear it on any class! I have done it
Best backpack in the game (It’s an actual backpack! How else do your characters hold all that loot! haha)
With barely any old sets fitting Charr, the newest sets STILL not fitting Charr and no word from ANet on this issue at all, it’s pretty safe to say these new armors will look terrible on Charr.
Charr cultural doesn’t even fit the race it’s designed for… Light Cultural T3 (check that tail clipping)
- Swap Tool Kit for Elixir S.
- Swap invigorating speed (alch 1) for protection injection (alch 6)
- Take your points out of tools, put them in inventions for Elixir Infused Bombs
You lose: a block, some speed, some vigor.
You gain: better stats, invuln + stability/stealth, protection when you most need it and healing bombs.
P.S. One thing about Cloaking Device: all decent players know you’re still there, so they just keep swinging. It’s not worth it in the slightest.
Good luck in your future games
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
Just watch how BAD those players are… This is a fairly skill based game even in WvW, if you come up against players barely capable of hitting anything but auto-attack, you’re going to win fights.
You can duel anyone, anytime in an empty sPvP map (there are always plenty).
This just got way easier with custom arenas, as there are not dedicated dueling servers popping up…
Enjoy your duels
Mike,
GW2 has a LOT of endgame for a wide variety of players.
For those who like strategic planning and coordinated builds or just challenging content:
- WvW
- tPvP
- Fractals
- Current story dungeon “Aetherblade retreat”
For those who like to test their personal and small group skill to the limit against other like minded players:
- tPvP
- WvW
For those who like to explore:
- the entire massive world
For those who like to grind:
- Dungeons and fractals
- Open world bosses
GW2 has had vastly more endgame from launch that any other mmorpg has to date, enjoy!
OP, why not learn to play?
Such an obnoxious post deserves a response in kind.
Here’s a secret:
- Burst/Regen War add lifesteal on crit food and what is that? Oh look, now you’re invincible in PvE…
Gee, thanks Brew.
P.S. for those who care, key traits to this build are the minor “adrenal health” as well as the two majors “lung capacity” and “vigorous shouts”. Use the Soldiers runes for the condi cleanse and the regen heal skill.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
This is the build I run on my tPvP warrior: Burst/Regen War
You gain very significant regen and tonnes of condition cleanses whilst maintaining great maneuverability and that dirty warrior burst.
To play a warrior in PvP you will need to take advantage of your superiour mobility, with GS and mainhand sword, you can escape any engagement to give yourself time to regen or catch any moving target with ease.
PvP is not like CoF1, do not expect to be able to stand in front of an enemy player and facetank all their attacks.
Build right, play to your strengths and above all, learn to kittening dodge.
Enjoy your wins xx
I was under the impression that if you were dead when the boss died or perhaps even died at all during the encounter then you would not get a bag…
No idea whether this is/was fact, but I liked it…
Absolutely agree, this new dungeon is the business. Had an excellent time running through this one, best dungeon in GW2 to date and definitely one of the best PvE experiences available across any current MMORPG on the market.
Great work ANet and thanks for the great times!
They have implied that they will get around to fixing the other dungeons also, CoF hopefully being at the top of the list.
If you are worried about finding groups for the dungeon, in my experience an AC exp group is being put together roughly every 5 minutes on gw2lfg.com, so this is a non issue.
For now, AC is way BETTER. They increased the challenge, thus made it a far more entertaining experience. It takes some semblance of skill and coordination to complete, especially to complete quickly.
If you do not want/can not handle increased difficulty, there is always CoF or open world PvE grinding available to you. Then once you have improved your skills, you can return to the dungeon and try again, to reap the rewards that your greater ability will bring.
Perfect.
(edited by Brew Pinch.5731)
You all do realise that we need to compare this with other available elites? They are almost universally trash skills… We have supply drop, perhaps one of the least pathetic elites in the game… Relax fellow engineers, we have it far better than most.
kitten kitten stats (as if they really matter, don’t go vitality and your all good)
For tPvP you need condition cleanse and heals for a bunker. Try 20 in alchemy for 409 (cleanse) then run elixir B and S.
Use Rabid stats with Elixir gun and dual pistols for damage and a fair chunk of survivability.
Good luck.
In this game, skill > anything, so if you practice you’ll do well
