One of my mates plays Ele, he loves it and we win very regularly in team queue.

Don’t let the forum heroes drag you into the circle-jerk. Ele’s can be excellent and they are fun as kitten to play.

Besides, they’re only going to improve from here.

So let me get this straight.

Condition damage and direct damage are about equal damage wise. Only conditions have a lot of cleansing against it. Where as direct damage, well, nothing really. You get hit, and that health is gone.

And a lot of people are concluding from this that there for, conditions should be weakened? I am puzzled by this.

Most people have no idea how they work and absolutely refuse to even attempt to understand.

There is no logic to the typical anti-condi arguments, the devs are smart enough to know this and make changes accordingly.

often complaints come from ‘zerkers, who can kill in 2-3 hits yet complain when they can be killed easily themselves. It’s a tired case of wanting to have their cake and eat it too.

If only people would try out what they think might be OP before complaining, we’d get so much less of this.

They try to keep the differences minimal though, which is obviously the right choice both for player intuition and staff development time.

Maintaining 3 versions of every skill in the game is ludicrous.

The clone change would have been really good, I was looking forward to it.

Better for skilled play, keeping phantasms alive and improving deception. Too many Mesmers seem to believe deceptive evasion made them harder to spot, when in reality it gives them away.

I’m disappointed the forums got their way on this one.

I’ll be glad when playing other classes though, would have made skilled mesmers stronger.

I think:

Untraited: 3 ’nades at 10% reduced damage.

Traited: +300 range and a 10% damage boost (brings it to current traited level).

Or to make it really cool:

Untraited: 3 ’nades.

Traited: +300 range, really low chance of blast finisher.

This way the trait is still really cool, but not mandatory.

Leeching, Tormenting, Battle, Earth and Hydromancy are probably the most popular. With a stacking sigil for offhand.

I have the absolute least time for the community on these forums when players argue against complexity of gameplay.

Thumbs up to the OP, it is great to hear the voices of players who rarely venture here calling out from within the dark.

The great positive of this thread is the developers will see your post, hopefully feeling a measure of satisfaction they well deserve in the creation of this game and specifically this excellent map.

It was made for roamers, small group WvWers and large scale battlers all at once.

You would find there is an overwhelming number of players loving this new map, should you dare venture outside the forums for more than a brief moment.

The choke points specifically promote spartan defense far more than zerg tactics…

Expecting solo queue to be as competitive as team queue in any PvP game is a little ridiculous my friend.

If you want to get legitimately competitive in any PvP team game you’ll have to try get together with a few friends, whether from in game or out.
Even queuing as a duo/triple for team queue can improve your win rate significantly (assuming you and your mates are decent players of course).

Automated Response needs to change, but so do ALL immunity skills.

Reducing durations of conditions by 50% or cleansing all existing conditions seems more reasonable for an automated skill.

If you’re planning on ignoring PvP, look towards something which will maximize your DPS and use dodges to survive.

Perhaps something like this

Auto-attack with bomb 1, use toolbelt 3 & 4 to trigger Static Discharge and rotate to Rifle for Blunderbuss/Jump Shot combos.

Someone with more Engineer PvE experience might be able to refine this build further.

Please don’t ignore PvP though, it’s far too excellent in this game.

The common misconception is that this has anything to do with PvP balance.

Condition stacks simply prevent multiple players being effective together.
Imagine if direct damage had the same caps. 3 burst players attack a target, one does full damage, one partial and the other none. This is exactly the case for condition builds with these caps.

The cap exists purely to maintain server stability, so until ANet come up with a creative solution (something called for by the playerbase since before release) nothing can change.

ANet know about this issue, they agree it sucks and hopefully one day we’ll see a fix. Until then, try not to think about it, it’s too frustrating.

  • Engineers have been getting nerfs the last few patches and that theme continues with the upcoming “feature patch”.
  • The only major issue with Engineers at the moment is Automated Response (condi immunity). Immunity skills need to change across the board however.
  • For strategy vs Engineer, try CC or condi. Most have little to no cleanse and little to no stun breaks.
  • For your typical MMO forumer gluteal soreness, apply cream to the affected area.

Finally and most importantly, do please in future play the class your are intending to whinge about, helps to gain perspective. Typically you’ll learn that you were wrong/playing poorly.
We’d get so much less “Nerf X” kitten-posting if people actually made the effort to try what they assume is over powered.

I agree, the class is in a good place.

I’d like to see Automated Response changed along with all immunity skill cheese, but otherwise the class seems in a fair place.

Obviously Turrets are still kittened, but hopefully they’ll get there eventually.

Also

Obviously the net turret that no one used was too strong.

Byproduct of the terrible immobilize stacking change, however, the turret is powerful regardless. We’d have to see how it goes when they revert immobilize back to the original design…

And since engis are decent in pvp they’re fine in every game mode beside them being completely different, … unlike warriors and guardians, that aren’t seeing sensible nerfs anyway.

The PvE issues aren’t because of classes, but rather encounter design. Once the mechanics of some of the newer living story mobs see wider implementation things should hopefully improve drastically.

All that needs to happen is the implementation of a clever way to bypass stack limits without blowing up the servers.

Condi will always be pretty much useless in endgame PvE until a solution to the stacking issue is found.

PvE as a whole needs to change in complexity, but going by the mobs they’ve been releasing through the living story, they are working on that and it’s looking absolutely excellent. When they eventually implement some of the mechanics of those mobs to original mobs throughout the game, things will get very interesting.

My personal favourites are the shield mobs which shield themselves and allies forcing your party to endure for a moment. That is exactly the mechanic which would fix the zerker meta.

CC mobs and confusion mobs are excellent too.

So ive come up with something we can do to these troll threads. Idk how many of you watch collegehumor on YouTube, but they recently made a video called “Internet troll under a bridge” so whenever someone makes a troll post or thread, everyone just link that video.

I am actually keen to see this happen.

Every week this forum (probably all class forums to be realistic) sees people claiming the class is either terribad or OP as fug, it’s probably a waste of time responding with anything other than jokes now there is a specific balance sub :P

Too address your specific complaint OP:

Elementalists were so powerful because they had EVERYTHING at once.
Plenty of cleanse/multiple stunbreaks/Perma boons/Insane healing/great DPS.

Engineer can have a couple of those at a time, but typically the class gets #rekt by CC and has always done so due to little/no stunbreaks and weak cleanse.

The current immob stacking change is particularly painful for the class.

And Lastly Please actually play a class before crying OP on the forums, we have enough kitten-posting here without you spouting even more ignorant rubbish.

Firstly, Engineers on the whole are fine.

But, since we’re on the topic:
Engi autos are typically pretty poor relative to what’s on offer, but FT auto is undoubtedly kitten-tier.

Not only are the damage and range terrible, but retaliation will absolutely shred you.
At five hits per second, against 3 retaliating targets you’re taking an absolute minimum of 4500 damage a second from the retaliation boon alone.

Flamethrower needs a looking at for these reasons.
The balance on the kit as a whole is close, but with the terrible auto it’s just not close enough.

Until the kit sees changes, it’s fun to mess about with in the predictable safety of PvE, burning living trees and roasting small forest folk.


P.S. typing the number five, space, then “hits” triggers the forum censor. I know what it “spells”, but perhaps the filter is a little over zealous in this case?

I rarely agree with balance suggestions on these forums, but putting immob back to 1 stack is the right way to go.

We’ve given it a serious trial now, it’s had the time to settle in and immobilize stacking still feels like a terrible, terrible change.

At the end of the day, it’s just not fun and that counts for a lot.

I also genuinely love Skyhammer.

The week it was first introduced I spent a LOT of rare late nights playing it over and over again with my mates (this was back when tourney queue was a single map per week).

The variety to the gameplay on that map is simply brilliant and aesthetically it’s gorgeous, in all honesty it’s my favourite MMO PvP map of all time.

I think it’s sad that these forums aren’t receptive to the additional positional strategy the map brings to PvP, in my opinion it’s GW2 at it’s absolute finest.

Just saw this other thread where someone suggested a 1600 gem item for the retrospective reward.

Since I guess it takes some time if someone would program these retrospective rewards it would be ok for me to pay for it. I mean sure, we should have just gotten for free but if this increases the chance then I am fine with it…

I’m not gonna lie, that would set a pretty ugly precedent…

There are much better things to throw up onto the gem-store to pay the bills than something so controversial.

Because – and they’ve mentioned this many, many times – it takes time to see how the little changes affect the game/meta.

There have been many times where a tiny change has gone in, a class is considered terrible for weeks/months, then all of a sudden a build is discovered and now the class is OP.

The waits are necessary, unfortunately.

I don’t know about spvp, I only play hot-joins as I’m not interested in the 5 minute waiting queues. If it doesn’t apply to Spvp then maybe it’s a non-issue?

Mate, you can queue up for tourneys from the PvP tab while in hotjoin or PvE/WvW.

Muck about in hotjoin while you wait for the queue to pop.

Just increase the auto range to 600 so there’s a better chance to actually land that final tick and apply the burn.

Additionally, having Flame Blast explode on contact with a surface rather than disappear would be excellent.

Those relatively simple changes would do wonders for the weapon.


Fixing the whole “shooting into the ground” thing that affects every ranged weapon in the game will also be great when ANet get around to it.

The problem of Berserker dominance was never one of stats. It was one of game design.

When 90% of PvE damage is avoidable and instant-gibs, then it’s no surprise that players opt for the only edge that matters in such a scenario. And that’s damage.

Exactly, but ArenaNet never sees the root problem. Instead it seems like they do a mind map and take everything that is just remotely related to the problem and nerf it while totally ignoring the root problem.

Watch the stream dude, this is a small part of a larger incoming solution. They know what they’re doing.

I’ve bug reported this a fair few times since launch, I’m sure a boat-load of others have done the same.

Cosmetic changes come extremely slowly in this game, look at Charr for example (most armours are totally kittened on the race).

We’ll just have to wait and hope that at some point they decide to start making an effort to fix their old armour assets.

Unfortunately it seems the art department doesn’t even have the resources to do more than stretch-to-fit copy-paste jobs of even the new gem store armours for non-human races.

Lucky the gameplay here is unmatched, I guess…

Wintersday has been a legendary patch this year, a plethora of great changes as well as the surprisingly decent finish to the Nightmare thing and the return of the excellent Wintersday mini-games.

One negative it has again brought to the forefront however, is a kitten-tonne of lag due to the extra particle effects, highlighting once again the dire need for some serious CPU optimisation.

So ANet, give the staff working on optimisation a pat on the back, a few beers and perhaps a boost in resources. We would love to see some noticeable performance changes start rolling out soon!

Also, any chance of a cheeky, rough ETA?

I think different. Human, Norn, Sylvari have different armors between male/female. Its just that they don’t give a kitten about charr.

Probably true, with the plethora of other issues Charr are stuck with (2-handed backpacks floating, Animations being bigger than their range, etc) it’s probably just general disinterest in the race.
They need a dev playing Charr who can pester them to lift their game.

Medium, as with light, is almost universally terrible on Charr.

Rox uses Mist Walker Shoulders (WvW), Seeker’s Coat (low level PvE drop I think) and T1 Cultural boots. Not sure on the gloves/pants.

Would love to see some optimisation of the game code.

Similar to what they have been doing over at PlanetSide 2.

That game used to be severely CPU limited as well, but now, still early in the process, I am already seeing massive increases in FPS even with all the settings turned way up.

Perhaps this is something we could really benefit from in GW2 as well.
I know most people run WvW at ~20 frames due to extreme CPU bottlenecks.

Undoubtedly there are already people working on optimisation, but maybe it is something that could go faster with more hands at work?
