How about it could be broken with stunbreak, like basilisk venom (a thief elite stun that actually lasts 1.5 sec instead of moas 10)?
difference is basilisk venom has a 45s cooldown, and can be brought even lower with traits, and can be applied on everyone nearby with traits, and can have a myriad of other effects with traits.
basilisk venom works on a whole different level from moa morph. being stun-breakable is the balance to “party-wide 3s petrification with a 30 second CD”.
.
and as for the original suggestion, can’t say i think it needs any balancing, but then again, i haven’t done much PvPing since launch.
i just find it odd that there is no underwter gear anywhere in the game, except for your starter and some lv27 ones you can find on one or two karma vendors.
the combat itself is fun or boring depending on the class. rangers are really fun to play with the speargun, but thieves are boring all around.
you should’ve checked it on the PvP lobby first.
personally, the only one i like is the heavy one. medium one is the caudecus manor armor, and light one is as bland as it gets.
they should allow you to stamp the guild emblem somewhere in your existing armor, rather than reskin it.
I’m likely necroing an old thread, but with the advent of the Halloween event, I think it’s worth mentioning that one of the ghosts from the first part of the Mad Memories quest met her demise when her horse trampled her:
(possible spoilers) :http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Serene
that was 500 years ago though.
charr totally ate them all.
your TL;DR and your edit are as long as the rest of the post lol.
and to ANet’s credit, they don’t really use the term “quest” in-game as far as i can see. there are dynamic events, group events, dungeons, personal story, hearts… but no quests.
as for quests in the way you ask for, well the halloween scavenger hunt was a very awesome thing to do, had a relatively cool reward, and had you run throughout tyria in search of clues, doing tasks that got you progressively closer to your objective.
we don't need another game that bloats the numbers to the point they lose all meaning and break all balance all with one single swing.Bigger stats? Nope.
More skins? Please.Think you missed the point of his post. There saying they dont want gear progression but they do want more armor skin’s.
poorly put out post, it’s 3am >.>
i meant to agree with the quote, THEN say what i said to the OP.
EDIT: wait… i did say that i agreed with the quote. why did you remove the “this” from the quote? well, i added a paragraph there to make it even clearer.
i think being able to kill enemies from places they can’t defend, or being able to essentially one-shot them with knockbacks are both wrong ways to deal with the situation. sure it sounds cool, until you realize that suddenly you’ll have a completely broken PvE balance where finding a spot where you can fight for as long as you want without risking damage is the first law, and always bringing knockbacks is the second.
the solution would simply be giving players the same immunity as mobs. if you’re being knocked back, feared, pulled or even just trying to roll out of the way or using a skill that moves your character (hello death blossom), you shouldn’t be allowed to fall. you should only drop by walking out the ledge or by jumping.
my suggestion is not one i particularly think would work, but it’s a nice direction they could go with.
eventually, we’ll run out of weapons to give the players. then comes the time where you need to expand on the existing weapons. how? my idea are actually two, and i think it’s a “one or the other” situation. together, they’d just mess everything up and be too complicated.
the first idea is give alternate skill sets to a weapon. so if a greatsword gives you certain 5 skills, you could opt on the hero panel to use another set of 5. you could pick either one set or another, but not mix and match them. that way you have essentially two weapons in one weapon type. for all practical effects, picking which set to use would function just like picking which weapon to use, so you wouldn’t be able to switch between skills unless you have the same weapon on both weapon sets
.
the second idea is adding weapon traits. if you’ve played diablo 3, think of that. essentially, you can equip each skill with one of a few “traits” that change its properties. for example, a thief’s unload could have a trait that makes the skill fire in a cone, rather than forward. this kind of improvement would add a lot of depth to weapon skills, and could potentially lead to a myriad of new combinations.
of course, the downside here is that a revamp of that magnitude to existing skills would shake the balance heavily, and many weapon skills just aren’t interesting enough to have all these different “flavors” added.
i’ll be honest, this thread is full of posts that are way too long for me to read, much less the devs that have hundreds of topics to go through as well as work on the game. keep it condensed, keep it a core concept. devs aren’t going to copy your posts into the code no matter how amazing they are, so instead you should focus on giving concise suggestions.
good thing i don’t like mass effect, because this suggestion is just stupid.
“but level 80 is a whole different thing” no it’s not, and that’s your problem.
Bigger stats? Nope.
More skins? Please.
this.

i’m on 226. didn’t try rushing the rest after i found out costume brawl is staying forever.
Don’t worry I believe you will still get your titles after Halloween Event ended. Just a small bug.
a small, but very worrysome bug, because the devs haven’t commented on it yet. maybe we need a thread with a clear enough title and first post?
awesome. would be even better if there was a WvW cooldown for transfers.
yes please. i’ll give you my firstborn for a quaggan piwate, ANet.
they need to keep the limited skill bar.
what they could do is look at diablo 3, where each skill can be tweaked with a unikittenfect (not necessarily better or worse, just different), and apply that to weapon skills.
i have all but the “Attend the Party” achievement missing, but it says i’ve only done 3.
when i do the attend the party achievement, i’ll have every halloween achievement completed, and yet the counter will say “4 out of 5” :/
mad king thorn was absent from 250 years of halloween, wintersday likely evolved from its origins into something else.
easy solution:
add an equippable minipet slot. frees inventory space, doesn’t get deposited by accident, stays out even when you hit a loading screen.
i’d just carve every pumpkin on my path. early queensdale has plenty, so does the labyrinth and lion’s arch.
Fiddlestyx.9714Attend the party isn’t out yet.
sigh…
do the math. if i get attend the party, i’ll have 4 achievements out of 5, but no achievements left to complete.
that’s like complaining that Hyrule in Twilight Princess is surrounded by a canyon.
it’s just gameplay over realism. suspend your disbelief, and you won’t even notice the mountains.
QUAGGAN’S A PIWATE, YARR!
i wanna hug it until i accidentally strangle it to death, then mourn its death until it respawns, so i can hug it again.
the camera could use some improvement, but jumping puzzles are some of the most fun you can have in the game. i can’t complain about seeing more and more of them.
you can right click their icon in party and join their overflow xD
there’s no party icon in PvP. you can’t join your friends like that on lunatic inquisition or reaper rumble. we’ve tried.
anyway yes i support the idea that a game about playing with other people should let you play with your friends.
(edited by BrunoBRS.5178)
picture proof that my achievements are bugged. as you can see, the only thing i have left is attend the party, and yet it says i’ve only done 3 out of 5 activities.
^ it sounds interesting until you’re stuck a mile above the ground, on a tight passage, fighting dredge (which have no tell for their knockbacks, and even if they did, it’s not like you can roll without killing yourself), because it’s the only way to a vista or some other important thing.
it’s just frustrating. especially if you remember that fear is easy to pull and has no counter to it.
i messed around with the settings for about an hour until i got a Shadow of the Colossus look. i don’t actually play the game with those settings, but it’s nice for some artsy pics, plus it’s pretty easy to switch back and forth between settings, since you don’t have to close the application to do it.
how to improve zhaitan:
watch this video, see how fighting a giant monster while inside an airship should feel like, take notes, redo the battle from scratch.
notice how he’s always visible, a clear threat, without standing still. notice how you have to actively aim and gather ammo to fire at him. it’s hard to see in the videos, but notice how it’s the players that activate ropes that tether him to the ship, allowing for some easy free damage, and how it’s the players that have to time the giant spear of death to deal massive damage.
notice how the players actually CAN take damage during the fight, while fighting the main enemy itself, and how that main enemy is attacking, not just sending minions or summoning insta-death giant rings.
Found that if your trying with a few larger players it was a non starter.. dont mind it being hard just would like it to been on me own with out every one getting in the way.
eh, when i beat it i had two norns with me. i just used really vivid colors (orange and black) to make me stand out, that way i could spot myself easily.
as hilarious and creative as it is, it just kind of proves my point that players shouldn’t be feared/knocked back from ledges, just like with mobs.
yeah it looks kinda lame… and on a side note, it also kills any hopes of a scythe weapon type being added in the future :P
me and some others agree.
Ah I probably missed when i did this..what do we get if we win in either spvp themed maps?
some trick or treat bags, though i wouldn’t mind getting glory instead.
i would like it, yes. though the game feels rather slow for villagers until there are plenty of ghosts around. you’re just strolling through the same route, picking the items to deliver on those places, for like 10 minutes.
also mad king says is ridiculous. if someone uses it, the villager can either die, or get 25 points and then die. it gets rid of any sort of defense you may have (which includes the stealth), and the animation locks you into place for 3 seconds.
>make a mesmer
>learn portal
> find a really tall place
>lay portal
>find a bear brigade
>lay portal
>watch
i like it.
then again, i dyed it black and green, and replaced the hood for the phantom hood.
^ i suggested something like that before, would be nice if we could have it. i wouldn’t say just your personal choice, because really, how are you supposed to know that you won’t be able to ever pick the other option later on?
If you are in a group with someone and you right click their name, you should get an option if you are in the same area to join their instance if they’re in an overflow
that has absolutely nothing to do with the issue here, which is to let people play competitive activities (such as reaper’s rumble and keg brawl) with their friends, because right now, it’s mathematically impossible to join the same game as your friend.
bc you need 5 bruno. it says you need 5.
i know you need 5. but i have 3 out of the 5, and it says i only got two of them.
Bobobejumbo.4951ANet has stated, I believe, that they actually don’t want people to be able to group up as a coordinated team against what is most assuredly a group of PuG’s as the opponent.
wait what? that makes as much sense as kids in school not being able to form a team to play a game, because it would be unfair to the kids with no friends on the other team.
whatever happened to “reducing the social barriers in MMOs”? it’s a big turn-off to not be able to play with friends. with friends, it’s an incredibly fun activity. without them, it’s something you’ll enjoy for a couple hours at most and move on.
well, to put in the word of the actor playing thorn on the circus stands, " ’twas all in good fun".
^ make them islands. i wouldn’t mind a tropical archipelago-like scenario.
Yes, but one has to wonder how long it takes a race to learn how to procreate. I mean the only thing that they have to go off of is the sex that they see those of other races having, but who says that this is the way in which plants reproduce? It seems quite possible that though they may have the reproductive organs that humans and other races have, these are merely for show, in the sense that their muscles and such are.
it doesn’t take long at all, as in “if you aren’t born knowning how to procreate, you’ll go extinct”. the very first generation of anything had to know how to procreate, because you don’t “learn” that, just like you don’t need to “learn” that you should try and stay alive.
it’s mind boggling. didn’t start with halloween either, keg brawl is like that too (which reminds me, please keep these two activities all year long).
i have friends. i bet you do too. so when people want to play together, why can’t they?
so if all three count, why is it not working? :/
for the record i also have the two that don’t count.
so right now the title tracking says i only have 2 achievements done. but that’s not the case.
*i have completed the hunting achievement
*i have completed the events achievement (even after they updated to 15 events)
*i have completed the trick or treat bags achievement.
so what gives? shouldn’t it say i have 3 achievements? the events one is definitely counting, because it said i only had one completed until i finished the updated version.
one thing super meat boy taught me is that you can be as infuriatingly hard as you want, as long as you put the player back in the action as soon as he fails, so he can worry about the platforming more than the punishment for failing.
so i spent about 7 hours, and now i need to sleep. i’d say about 3/4 of the time i was either lagging a lot (random slowdowns and resets), or had a huge amount of chars in the way of the camera. after those 7 hours, i just learned to do the commands without even looking at my character, so i can get past the mass of people when they die and worry about platforming again.
i’ve won a match of rumble, been to the tower, been to the labyrinth, and last i checked i was on 2/4. i aslo played plenty of lunatic court (great game modes BTW, i hope they get non-halloween versions that can stick for the rest of the year).
