so today i went into Vexa’s lab.

most of it was already solved (or it had to be, because i just walked straight into the first portal i saw every time and appeared on the right place, literally following a straight line), and Vexa herself was already on her final stage, at 1/3 health (despite not having any players around).

the entire time i couldn’t help but feel that it was wrong, it shouldn’t be like that. not having it instanced ruined the dungeon for me.

I think if you try unlockign weapon skills later (via using a new weapon at a higher level area), the skills unlock much faster. I noticed my underwater skill 5 for my speargun on my thief filled up from 0 to 100% instantly when I killed a lvl30 fish.

I believe the weapon skill locks are intended to prevent you from being swamped at the start of the game, nothing more.

but it takes far too long with the ele, and the ele is incredibly boring when you can’t change attunements because you need to unlock skills to a specific attunement. whereas most people need to unlock 5 skills in a weapon combo, and by the time they get a second weapon combo they’re high level enough to make it go faster, the ele has to unlock 20 skills per weapon combo. it takes eles 4 times as long to get the skills he needs to make the game actually fun.

^ i think they regrow from the crystals, because as far as i know, no living creature has become branded since kralk created the brand itself and branded everything in the way.

if the brand really corrupted by itself, no one would stay inside it and build forts, the effort would be in keeping what’s in the brand, in the brand. what we see are forts inside the brand, with people living in these forts, patrolling the area, and so on.

yeah it’s VERY frustrating to have mobs in jumping puzzles because of the combat speed slowdown. it’s even more annoying when you’re forced to kill the mob, but you can’t roll, or use any leap skills, or any skills that move your character around (hello death blossom), because your character will fall to his death.

either make jumping puzzles all about the jumping, or fix your in-combat/off-combat mechanics.

Evaluating armor damage against the philosophy of fun

in Suggestions

BrunoBRS.5178

oh yeah, armor repairs are also a way to punish graveyard rushing. if you just graveyard rush through the entire dungeon, you’ll not only take like 20 times longer to beat the dungeon, but you’ll lose money instead of winning.

if you play effectively, you don’t die, don’t pay repair costs, finish the dungeon faster and profit.

Fair point, but I think there are other ways to avoid graveyard rushing. Things like boss lockouts, etc. I’m all for completing challenges “as intended” And I think there are a lot more you could do to curb this. When making this suggestion what I really had in mind was being able to get a group in there for some insanely crazy hard content, where frequent death is actually part of the learning experience. I don’t think that content exists today, but I want it to. I just see repair costs as a barrier to being able to add that content.

boss lockouts are a horrible idea. there is no time to rez a dead player during a fight, so if you make a mistake early on, you’re stuck dead the entire battle, watching your party take out the boss. it would just make things more frustrating.

keep in mind that your counters to graveyard rushing also affect people that die only once, by accident. you think that the group either wipes, or keeps cycling through the graveyard.

meanwhile armor repair costs ONLY punishes people that die too often, while letting someone who commited a mistake in battle to join (with a one minute delay) instead of sit tight and wait for 10 minutes.

as for group content where frequent death is part of the learning curve, all you’re doing is alienating and causing frustration. the tougher paths in dungeons are already full of people that ragequit halfway through.

yeah, the ele is a really fun class, but i was put off from it more than once during the betas because of the incredibly lengthy skill unlock system. considering that eles are no fun until you have all skills on all attunements, it makes for a really “grindy” experience to unlock everything.

kralk and jormag corrupt the living, kralk faster than jormag. jormag’s transition may be instantaneous, but there’s an evolutionary system of sorts in it. the icebrood start out still being flesh beings, only slowly turning into their final, icy form, whereas branded corruption has no ‘stages’.

maybe their sensitive ears let them listen to the sounds coming from the ground more easily, rather than having to put their ears on the ground to listen to it.

or maybe they just grew big for no reason at all. chance is as much of an evolutionary factor as adaptation. so maybe they randomly evolved big ears, and not having any disadvantages caused by it (and the fact that it seems other asuras find the ears to be rather attractive), it stuck around.

just like us humans lost our fur due to evolution, but because we could make clothes, it didn’t matter.

Stealth - Finish Them!, Needs to go.

in Suggestions

BrunoBRS.5178

Removing Quickness and Stealth from finishing opponents would completely unbalance Thief. Thieves CAN’T finish people reliably without those abilities. We are extremely squishy, and we have a hard time finishing people if they have teammates around even with these tools. If you took them away, then Thieves would not be able to finish people after downing them, which would not be balanced.

You may want to try to play something else than a thief before posting such nonsense. If thieves are squishy while finishing people, what should cloth wearers say?
We understand it’s hard to lose some OP abilities, some people are just happy to be able to faceroll people, but for the sake of balance, some thief abilities need urgent modifications. And the ability to finish people while invisible and quickened is one of those.

did you know that necro and mesmer have higher base health than the thief? did you know the necro has a freaking second health bar, and that the mesmer can have 3 NPCs looking exactly like him around, as well as THAT DAZING DUELIST providing cover for his stomp?

did you know eles have a bunch of invulnerability and stability skills to choose from, or can just nuke a downed player from a distance?

maybe YOU should try playing a different class, say, thief, and see how well you fare with a melee class with 16k health at most.

You do realize 90% of the complaints here come from 8v8 sPvP and not thiefs stealth stomping in WvW, right?

the point stands? 8v8 means you have 7 teammates you should be sticking with, because, you know, there are only 3 points to worry about, so you shouldn’t stay alone.

Minidungeon discussion, opinions, critiques, etc.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BrunoBRS.5178

BrunoBRS.5178

thought one of my favorite features from GW2 (though there are hardly enough of them) deserved a discussion thread.

personally, i love them. they have this zelda-esque feel to them, with puzzles to solve and traps to avoid as well as enemies to kill and treasure to find. they often employ environmental weapons, and at least on the dredgehaunt cliffs minidungeon, defeating the boss involves making use of what you learned through the dungeon (read: using the light to keep the beacons lit, and keeping him from blowing it out).

in other words, minidungeons are what i wanted out of the actual dungeons in the game. challenging fights, clever puzzles and platforming, traps, creative level design, etc, rather than corridor fights with the occasional twist (but always centered on ‘just kill more stuff’)

that’s all really cool, but it comes with one glaring flaw: despite being 100% isolated from the rest of the world, and requiring a teleport (usually through an event), minidungeons are public. well what’s the problem with that?

imagine you found the passage to the minidungeon. “hey look, it’s open”, you think. you walk in, and to your surprise all you see is a boss fight right in front of you. there seems to be a lot of other stuff, but none of that matters, because someone else was there before you and solved everything, so you’re left with the boss fight. or so you think.

that “someone else” was actually a player enjoying the dungeon by himself, until halfway through he was joined by another player. that new player apparently had already beaten the dungeon, because he was sprinting everywhere, solving everything before the lonely player could even get to it. the lonely player misses half the puzzle solving due to that, and when he’s about to face off the boss, an entire party walks in and takes the boss down on a fight far easier than it should have been.

this could’ve been solved if the minidungeons were limited to you and your party only. this would NOT require any balance changes (as from what i’ve noticed, they are very much soloable), or even structural changes to the world (since you already have to teleport in).

so what are YOUR thoughts on minidungeons? what do you like about them, dislike about them? what do you think could be improved?

LegendaryMythril/Zihark Darshell

in Suggestions

Posted by: BrunoBRS.5178

BrunoBRS.5178

no fun getting into a minidungeon and seeing all the puzzles solved by another player, and getting an achievement for doing nothing.

these minidungeons are already isolated from the world and require teleporting to a different location, i think it would be much better if they were balanced just the way they are right now (doable by yourself, but not facerolling easy with a few extra people), but only you and your partymates can enter a same instance.

this is my only issue with minidungeons so far, and they’re probably my favorite feature in the game.
