^ the problem with fear and knockback is another entirely, and can actually be very deadly on PvE (being knocked out of a tall place and dying, namely). they should give players the same invisible barriers they give NPCs when feared or knocked back (or rolling).
here here! I private dueling system or private arenas would be amazing!
see? this i can back. something set in a separated place, away from the crowds, preferrably in the mists, with a whole system to back it up. not a duel request button you can press anywhere.
So you don’t support any way for two casual friends to “privately” duel without a crowd of people around?
So me and a friend can just mess about and fight each other without embarrassing ourselves in front of “hardcore” players?
who said anything about that? having an entire structure built into it includes having special duel maps. the mists lobby would serve as a place to pick random fights or join a friend, among other things.
As did skelk, drakes, giants, and quite a few other creatures.
Though what makes me curious is the fiery look on them.
(waits patiently for the “they’re tied to Primordus” speculatory shouts)
EVERYTHING RELATED TO FIRE IS TIED TO PRIMORDUS. THE HOUNDS OF BALTHAZAR ARE ACTUALLY DESTROYER PUPPIES.
Alright thank you all for the explanations. I really hope that we get to fight Drakkar in the future then, even though he is weirdly shaped for a dragon.
have you seen zhaitan? lol.
Males don’t have leaves covering their chest. They have no nipples.
males also have even less reason to have a nipple than a female :P
i think the insanity and the chaos counter the balance. plus, it’s a for lulz activity with no downside to losing (you don’t even lose your racked points).
me personally i find the witch’s costume to be pretty kitten good, and i love placing cauldrons to lure players :P
only thing i noticed is that males ride brooms the “normal way” (as if it was a horse), and females sit on their side. haven’t seen any charrs though, might try experimenting later with my charr.
eh, i managed to figure it all by just following the game’s instructions. it’s kind of confusing at first, yeah, but nothing that a little experimenting doesn’t fix.
Thanks for the info! Maybe something to be considered for ANet to fix the disappointed role players!
like i said, an option to trigger town clothes while in town (and a fix to not drop them whenever the slightest hint of combat shows) would solve that problem, even for roleplayers (i assume roleplaying still uses common sense, and that adventurers wear their combat gear when exploring :P)
you know, i thought about making a joke thread begging to nerf a random costume.
then you went and posted a serious topic about it :|
also, i went on a 20 champion streak (as in got 25 points 20 times before being taken down) with the witch’s costume, and i have access to a free immunity skill for as long as i want.
doesn’t it show at the bottom of the UI together with all the other minor stuff?
EDIT: just checked, and nope.
but i worry about the KDR freaks that this would create, even if it only show your own deaths.

I was under the impression that town clothes an be transmuted to armor, is this incorrect?
you can’t transmute anything into a different class of item. so it is incorrect.
the problem is that 1- town clothes get unequipped way too easily, especially in a city with as much water and steep ledges as lion’s arch, and 2- there is no easy way to re equip them.
if they stayed equipped when i fell or went underwater, and if they had an option to equip as soon as i’m in town, they would be just fine.
they are glorious. i went for the witch’s costume, so i made sure to tell all my friends to buy the mad king’s costume instead :P
disabling shot is the ranger one or the thief one? ‘cause my issue with the thief one is how clunky it is. often you’ll just rubberband back to where you were before the shot, especially if you’re spamming it to cover ground while snaring the enemy.
costume brawl: proof that dueling should never be implemented in GW2.
don’t get me wrong, i love costume brawl. it’s hilarious and chaotic. but it’s only fun while it’s done for mischief and kept as an isolated, temporary activity (namely, you only see it happening in lion’s arch, where large groups of players brawl). dueling would spread that special effect spamfest to the entire map, everywhere, all the time.
not to mention the rendering issues. in costume brawl, it’s harmless, but if you’re one on one against someone and you can’t see that someone anymore, how does it work?
You saying that is proof you apparently have never played an MMO with dueling. Because what you predict will happen doesn’t actually happen.
Every mmo i’ve played that has dueling ends up with people who really enjoy duelling finding an out of the way place to duel each other. Usually sort of “unofficial” dueling groups gatherings start happening in out of the way places where the fighters will have lots of clear space and line-of-sight.
Because for one, duels tend to be 1 on 1 things. you don’t WANT to duel in a big crowd of people standing on top of each other. you can’t SEE the person you’re dueling that way. you need empty space to fight right.
Costume Brawl does not work how dueling works in any game i have ever played.
oh i have played MMOs with dueling. what i get is a bunch of people either in the city or as close as possible to the city (if the city is a non-hostile zone) fighting against each other, and the city’s chat flooded with people begging for duels, and random duel requests popping on the UI every other minute.
and my costume brawl example is just pointing out what would happen, from an outsider’s perspective, if a bunch of people were dueling too close to each other. and considering lion’s arch is the hangout place for absolutely everyone, it’s where the crowd would be doing said duels.
(edited by BrunoBRS.5178)
this is SO annoying, especially considering that costumes are now being used in costume brawl, where fear and knockback is common, and it’s mostly done in lion’s arch, a city surrounded by water and build on top off cliffs.
if you consider that actually being attacked by a mob doesn’t remove your costume, why should falling damage remove it? what is the reasoning behind it?
considering that exotics (aka top-stat items) are given away upon completion of certain maps, can be created via mystic forge, AND can be crafted, as well as being dropped by enemies, and they are all tradable, i don’t see the point.
i just made money with what i dropped, then spent 2g on each piece of my exotic armor.
i think the price of gems themselves is a bit high. it’s almost 10 dollars for a costume. that’s a lot of money for a skin.
however, i feel like arenanet has done a great job and gave us a lot of content without asking for anything in return, so i did what my friend does, and gave them a “tip” for the quality service. so i bought some gems, bought a costume, and have been celebrating halloween in game with it.

i’m not getting any “halloween events completed” thing either, but i assume that it’s because we’ll be doing something bigger in other acts, something that’s more of an event and less ‘oh this mob spawned, kill it’.
everyone visible in this (mildly humorous) picture is part of my guild, which i lead and am actively representing. i noticed earlier in the day when i spotted a guildie doing the scavenger hunt, but i figured he wasn’t representing us or something. but all of the people on that pic, as you can see on chat, are also representing the guild (and as it turns out, that guildie was representing us the whole time).

wait what? pics please? i mean… that doesn’t sound like it should be happening.
I’d imagine weed killer would be super effective against sylvari. /endjoke
As Bruno said, I haven’t seen any racial-specific poisons mentioned.
drink some weed killer to see what happens :P
how would you even know? they have leaves covering their stuff. and what would be the point of nipples if they can’t breastfeed because they’re not mammals? and why do these creepy questions keep showing up when i login?
We got confirmation from the developers that they do indeed have genitalia.
The reason they don’t have nipples is because they don’t have mammary glands.
i know they have that.
i don’t know how anyone got to the conclusion sylvaris have (or don’t) nipples, given that there are those leaves covering their breasts.
and it’s still a very odd topic to discuss >.>
they are griffons on fire. i thought of that too, but i think that those aren’t the gargoyles you know from lore.
primordial means ancient…
that’s a better translation
primordial is also derived from prime.
depths is not… deep enough :P and i know the reason they’re there, but it’s not entirely impossible for there to be seafloor caves that primordus can pass through. after all, destroyers are pure magma, and primordus is an elder dragon, pressure is nothing to them.
also i’d like to remind everyone that Primordus comes from “Prime”, which means “first” as well as it does “best”. in other words, Primordus’ power is hinted on the name :P
prime/pr?m/
Adjective:
Of first importance; main.
Noun:
A state or time of greatest strength, vigor, or success in a person’s life.
Verb:
Make (something) ready for use or action, in particular.
Synonyms:
primary – main – principal – chief – primal – capital
notice the noun definition. a state of greatest strength, vigor, or success in a person’s life.
none specifically racial poison as far as it’s known, lore or mechanically.
^ well duh, svanir was the first icebrood, and he shows up in eye of the north, which is shortly after nightfall.

That’s actually the reason why I believe the Inquest have entered an alliance with the Nightmare Court. They get assistants for handling dragon minions and draconic energies, Nightmare Court gets more torture (sadistic/masochists that they are), and the Inquest probably get the double helping of studying sylvari immunity.
And by the curiosity being satiated, I actually meant for the initial experiments – you don’t really need to dissect a sylvari to find out why they’re immune to dragon corruptions, and the vast majority of asura would frown upon such just as much as they’d frown upon doing the same to humans because they originate from the Mists.
i know the average asura frowns upon it.
but the inquest isn’t the average asura.
^ don’t be so certain. we did kill cadeyrn, founder of the nightmare court, and we did kill kudu.
don’t you love when everyone’s so excited we crash the servers out of sheer enthusiasm?
^ can’t they just tell us all the awesome stuff meanwhile? :P
we can’t tell for sure. we also don’t know how much the souls of the dead influenced the seed, or even the place it was planted. there are inumerous factors that could have affected the outcome. the ritual is just the known way to do it, and it’s obviously more immediate and powerful (since it works on a full grown champion, rather than take hundreds of years and starts before the champion is even created).
why wouldn’t you? the sylvaris are a great “tool” against the elder dragons, since they don’t turn on us as soon as they fall dead. the inquest does a lot of dragon research. having access to that immunity would allow them to take their research that much further, without any of the risks of permanent corruption of the mind and body. hell, they could use it to manipulate just how corrupted someone gets. the scientific potential is there, and if the inquest doesn’t take interest in it, no one ever will.
so i’d say that the curiosity is far from saciated. there are still too many “hows” and “whys” to the sylvari, and they are, like i said, somehow closely related to dragons, although not necessarily minions. of course the inquest would take interest in them.

i always forget that guild wars is one of those games you can’t shorten “underground world” >.>
and that’s exactly what i mean. we see minimal activity. instead of going with the flow, creating as many minions as you lose, primordus is quietly building his army, becoming stronger and stronger, like a tactician using the fog of war to hide his troops.
and keep in mind that the underground world might just as well pass through the bottom of the ocean. we did, after all, have tremors caused by destroyers as far as elona and cantha (remember how you got to boreal station? my canthan assassin does). primordus has access to all of that, and he’s just stocking more and more destroyers in there, with the occasional pack leaving the underground through natural holes (i.e. volcanoes). if cities weren’t supposed to be permanent safe zones, i wouldn’t doubt we’d see primordus and his army of destroyers crawling out of the great chasm (poor foundation my kitten there’s something else about that huge hole).
(edited by BrunoBRS.5178)
don’t be so sure, there are sales on the gem store already.
i want to know if the keys will go on sale. they’re too expensive for merely “a chance” of dropping a skin.
i’m not asking for a 50/50 thing, just something more balanced. there’s way too many day for way too little night, as a result, you barely see night time.
just because that’s the only known way, doesn’t mean it’s the only one. ventari and ronan could have been just as effective as the spell, we can’t know for sure because it’s speculation.
i stand corrected on the amnesia part, but it still implies a possible second tree (as well as all that crap on the echovald forest, but that’s completely unrelated to this discussion)
^ if i recall, in early sylvari days, the asuras were awfully curious about them, and experimented. then they realized sylvaris weren’t just weird plants. but the curiosity wasn’t saciated.
crucible of eternity is a major inquest lab. they have no morals. just like they capture kodans to turn into icebrood, they could be planning to vivissect sylvaris to learn more about them. after all, sylvaris have one factual tie to dragons: they are immune to it. the inquest could, for example, be working on an anti-corruption serum to immunize themselves.
i’m not saying they are wrong, just that they are as reliable sources of information as a moa.
Sure they’ve devolved and most of them have forgotten and almost all of them don’t care. However I don’t believe that every shred of information beyond what we have already been told by them has been lost., otherwise the entire flavor behind their purpose in the grand plot would be meaningless.
i think it’s the contrary, it adds to it. you don’t know what can and can’t be trusted, you don’t know what is truth and what is pride making up stories. it makes them more… human, like a person covering for a loved one.
they might have retained some of their knowledge, but how much of it is pride exaggerating half truths?
The Crystal Desert isn’t a wasteland. There are hydras, giants (possible ogres by GW2 standards), minotaurs, scarabs, griffons, centaurs, and by now probably undead. Furthermore, as shown with the Shatterer and the Branded Lieutenants, Kralkatorrik can turn the land itself into minions too. There’s also Glint’s children to consider.
And while Jormag’s losing minions, he’s also gaining them – similar to how Zhaitan gained minions from killing foes, as some Icebrood have shown to have crushed in faces (Edge of Destiny), so it seems evens corpses can be turned into icebrood.
i know jormag is generating minions as well as losing them, but who makes more? someone who builds and destroy or who just builds?
as for kralk, he’s losing minions on the brand, so all he has to purely build with no loss is the crystal desert, which even if he had enough life to create at the same minion-to-square-meter as primordus, who doesn’t need “base models”, primordus’ area of effect is huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge. he owns the entire underworld. that’s a whole lot more area to create minions than the branded crystal desert, or the entire brand for that matter.
Sort of related – I think they’ve kind of messed stuff like this up:
There are few immunities, and conditions seem to affect all things equaly.
My warrior makes everything bleed…ghosts, earth elementals, undead, doesn’t matter. I have yet to find an enemy that doesn’t bleed.
gw1 had lot’s of things that had resistances to conditions. gw2 seems to be a little lacking when it comes to such things.
that’s because GW2 is much more focused on conditions than GW1. while in GW1 conditions were an assist to damage, in GW2 they can be the only source of damage of a build.
combine that with the fact that you’re not walking around in groups anymore and you have the current system, where enemies are immune, at most, to a single condition, and i don’t think anything is immune to bleeding (since it’s the main damage dealing condition).
oddly enough, my 10 year old cousin asked me why i could bleed golems and ghosts :P
sounds so promising. i like the idea of DEs being more complex as more players show up. i just wished they’d make some of the existing DEs more manageable by lone players, or just smaller groups (i’m looking at you, diessa plateau giant)
And you think Kholer is hard. If Kholer is hard then what is Subject Alpha?
I know; he is just plain ridiculous. I thank god that I have Blink on me. I can easily escape from those crystals.
last time i shadowstepped out of a crystal, my character remained frozen, but in a different place.
i guess thieves can’t escape our crystaline fate ;_;
