Return of the Mursaat?

in Lore

BuddhaKeks.4857

Yeah, pretty much what I ment actually, but my wording was rather ambiguous. All I was saying is that the main focus of the prophecy was someone (the Flameseeker) opens the Door of Komalie. The Mursaat just happened to know enough about the prophecy that they knew it would kill them, so they tried to prevent it and maybe in an “you can’t trick fate” kind of way, actually mada it happen, since they are all (or atleast many of them) on the fire islands, while the titans come out of the portal.

Human and Norn Romance?

in Norn

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Uhm Tarn, how can you know that? Only because Norn think differently than humans doesn’t mean they wouldn’t “boink” a human they liked. In fact, boinking someone not of your species because he is different, seems to be the more human mindset. (there are exceptions to the rule of course).
Anet never ever said that Norn wouldn’t boink humans, they only said they can’t procreate. Huge difference.

Why can't Humans help the grawl?

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Well humans aren’t very fond of Grawl, they never were. Charr don’t like them too much either, but they were even during GW1’s times, known to ally with the Grawl due to their shared dislike for humans.

Btw: I liked that Norn couldn’t pick Quaggan, those cutie-pies have enough friends. Grawl ftw!
(Does anyone else think it’s unfair that 4 races can choose Hylek, but only 2 ogres?)

What is a lich and why can I be one?

BuddhaKeks.4857

Well a mummy is only different from other undead in the way they were burried. Note that all of Joko’s forces are mummies (except carven effigies, who are elementals), so it’s more a general type of undead. In short, Palawa Joko is a mummy lich, while Khilbron is a normal (draconic?) lich.

@Lechtrixx: Lich is not a profession but a type of undead. They are also always dead (well undead) never alive.

Norn as exiles

in Norn

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Well the Norn don’t exactly strike me as the people who care where they are, as long as they can do their thing. That’s why so many of them go on adventures, they want to see the world and do stuff legends are made off. A home is, were they can enjoy their mead and tell their stories, no matter where that is.
The reason the Norn were so shattered by Jormag taken their homeland, was not that they lost the land of their ancestor, but more that they had faced a foe they could not defeat. They want revenge on Jormag and show the world that nothing can stop a Norn. Taking back their old homeland is merely a bonus.

Return of the Mursaat?

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Well the Flameseeker prophecy was not about the Mursaat and how to kill them, it was merely a part of it, because they opposed Abaddon and his plans. He had to get rid of them. The core of Flameseeker prophecy is about the opening of the door of Komalie and the subsequent release of the titans. This is what fullfills the prophecy.

What is a lich and why can I be one?

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Well there are two liches we know for sure, that they are liches. Khilbron and Palawa Joko. There is also Zoldark, who I think is said to be a lich, but not all the rules of the other liches seem to apply to him.

Now what are these rules. First of liches are powerful undead, who keep there personality and can control huge amount of lesser undead. Check in all 3. However Khilbron and Joko also can not simply be killed. Their souls just wander back into their bodies after being slain. To kill Khilbron we had to lure him onto a bloodstone, so his soul was absorded by it, before it could return into his body. Palawa Joko was never killed, only sealed for a very long time. Zoldark however seems to be simply killable.

How does one become a lich in the GW universe? We don’t know. I personally have the theory that Khilbron tapped into Zhaitans magic while using his cataclysmic spell, therefore comming back in his rather draconic lich form (I’m not saying he was a Risen though, he shows no signs of that). How Joko became a lich is completly unknown. It is asumed he was a king in Elona, as I think it’s mentioned during a Halloween quest in GW1. And he had feud with King Oscar Thorn of Kryta, that’s pretty much all we know about his live, pre-Scourge of Vabbi.

Maybe Konig knows some more on the topic, he seems to be a lich himself.

Nobility/Civilized-ness of Monster Races?

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Uhm humanity knew about Grawl and Dredge before they knew about Norn. So they really build their opinion themself.
Charr probably knew Grawl before Norn too, it can’t be said for certain, but is highley likely. And since Charr and humans are calling the Grawl related to the other, it shows that both races aren’t too fond of them (as being related to Grawl would be degrading).
Asura probably knew Dredge before the other races, since the Dredge were slaves to the dwarves (not entirely sure if they were slaves to Stone Summit only or to all dwarves, Ogden makes it sound like the latter) and Asura and dwarves had contact for a while before the Asura went to the surface.
So the only race that really could have been influenced by the Norn in the way they look at Grawl and Dredge are the Sylvari, but even this I find unlikely, since the Sylvari are more like the “go and experience it yourself” kind of people. They wouldn’t just believe what other people tell them, they would want to see for themself if that is true.

We don’t even know if the weapon work on all EDs. We know they use different means of corruption, which in turn could mean they use different magic and are weak to different things. You have to keep in mind that the weapons used by the Pact were mostly tested on Risen, only in Frostgorge Sound we see them used against Jormag’s Claw. However we don’t know if the weapons used there, are actually like the ones used vs Zhaitan, or if they are more like regular weapons.

@Gaudrath: Okay, when tell me how cheap you can mass produce lasercannons. You just don’t get the premise of Guild Wars 2 it seems. It’s not standart fantasy “get the biggest magical McGuffin and everything will be fine”. Which I think is good, because that has been done to death. The races however actually putting thought into developing a weapon (which is clearly a process, if you follow the storyline, it’s partly based on Gorr’s research) feels fresher.
Now let me say this, no I’m not happy with the ending we got, I already posted my version in another thread (seriously we have too many of them), but what we got is still better than the Pale Tree just producing weapons that kill a dragon. The laser are a asura invention yes, but building them needs time and money, with only the Charr being able to mass produce anything of that kind. But again the Charr technology works different when asuran technology, meaning mass-production might be logistically impossible, at least for now.

Yes magic was used to make the cannon work, that doesn’t mean it fires a bolt of magical energy at Zhaitan. Though as Clarke’s law goes, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

But you know, if you want the Sylvari and the Pale Tree to handle that, go ahead, lets just scrap the other 4 races, we don’t need them, the Pale Tree alone can handle all the dragons, because she can produce magic dragon-slaying swords out of thin air.

Hi. It’s gonna be a long text since it’s the complete backstory of my character, I hope you don’t mind. xP

Tyr Snowmane
Bio:
Tyr Snowmane was a young Norn, when he first encountered the Asuran engineer Krugg, on a hunt. Krugg and his Krewe were attacked by Jotun, which Tyr helped to chase off. Sadly Krugg’s assistant was killed and his Golem destroyed. However the asuran scientist agreed to use the young Norn as his new assistant. Krugg was exiled from Rata Sum since his experiment was deemed to dangerous. He chose to do it in the shiverpeaks, because only idiotic bookahs lived here, so if it went wrong, nothing of value was lost.
However while working on his project he realized that Tyr was incredibly intelligent… for a bookah, he simply lacked the magical understanding to use Asura technology to full effect. Deciding to test his assistant’s abilities, he gave him some scrapped charr technology he aquired over the years. It turned out that Tyr was a gadgeteer genius and he soon build various tools and weapons out the given material, among them a flamethrower.
Finally the set up for the experiment was completed. Krugg tried to create a stable portal into the Mists, like the human mage Lord Odran did centuries before. And it seemed to work. Confident in his abilities Krugg pranced through the portal, followed by his stalwart. Unfortunately they ended up in the Mad Realm. The portal closed behind them meaning they were trapped.
Krugg quickly succumbed to the madness, Tyr however kept his sanity long enough to flee on fateful Halloween day, when the barricade between the Mad Realm and Tyria was at it’s weakest. Little did he know that this would also bring back the Mad King, a few years later.
Devasted by the experience Tyr decided to devote his live to a cause, in honor of his asuran Mentor. He would become a legend, fighting by using technology, instead of brute strength like kin does.
And thus beginns the legend of Tyr Snowmane, Norn engineer.

The megalaser only worked because it was technology and specifically modified to hurt Zhaitan. Please pay attention to the story.

Continents of Tyria

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

The gods, maybe, it’s save to say, they reside in the Mists and they have a certain degree of power over it.

The EDs are not from the Mists and they lack the ability to go there. Only some minions of Jormag managed to get into the Mists by capturing the Wolf Havroun.

I personally think this is the reason of the god’s silence. The EDs basically consume magic and the human god’s are magical beings, meaning they could potentially be eaten by a ED. However they have the ability to go into the Mists, which the EDs lack, so they can hide there and wait until the threat is dealt with. They are basically helping humanity and the other human races, by not risking to make the EDs even stronger than they are.
I also think mosts of the animal spirits went into the Mists after owl’s death, only 4 stayed to guide the Norn, minimizing the risk of the EDs getting even stronger by consuming them.
Just my personal theory though.

Edit: Forgot to mention, not all spirits are lost, besides the big 4, minotaur is also still running around and maybe wurm too.

Continents of Tyria

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

The mists are more or less the universe in which GW takes place in. (Possibly even multi-verse). I can’t really say where they are, except they are not in Tyria, more likely around it.
You have to keep in mind that the Mists are a highley magical place, that can spontaneously create live and places. Whenever you play PvP, either sPvP or WvW, you are in the Mists. Fractals are of course also set in the Mists. Also the black-green portals in the Godlost Swamp and Lorna’s Pass lead to the Underworld, which is part of the Mists. Norn Havrouns have the ability to phase into the Mists, granted by the animal spirits.

In GW1 there were even more ways to get into the Mists. Usually it was one of the human gods inviting an adventurer into his domain (Grenth = Underworld, Balthazar = Fissure of Woe). However a human mage called Lord Odran managed to open more portals, all across Tyria, leading to the Mists, with the goal of reaching the Hall of Heroes. This hall is the center of the Mists, a place were the souls of the bravest heroes would hold eternal tournaments to proof themselves worthy.

The last way into the Mists, led into the Realm of Torment, the realm of the fallen god Abaddon. The portal was in the Desolation, in Elona and was possibly closed when Kormir took over the realm.

The world is named Tyria, as is the continent we currently are on. Elona belongs to the same supercontinent as Tyria (the name of this supercontinent is unknown). As you correctly said, there is also Cantha to the far south.

The other continents are unknown to us right now. There is one that could have possibly been the setting of the canceled Guild Wars: Uthopia campaign. It was assumed to be influenced by mesoamerica. All speculation though.

The only other landmass we knew were the Battle Isles, somewhere between Tyria and Cantha.

We also have no idea what planet humanity came from.

Haven’t played Vigil yet, since I hold no connection to them or their plans, but I heard Forgal is supposed to be a good character (I expect no less from a Norn!).

The size of the Charr

in Charr

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

I’d say in general humans are more magical inclined than Charr, which gave them the edge in over them in early wars. Later the Charr got their hands on more powerful magic too and at that point they started winning again (okay humans were also weakined due to the Guild Wars, basically a large chaotic series of wars of the 3 human kingdoms and the human guilds).

However overall I would say humans are better at using magic than the Charr, lore wise, not mechanic wise of course, since they are used to do it since houndreds of years, while the Charr, frown upon on it a bit. They are still way to opportunistic to not use it, but they prefer physical strength and technology.

The Norn are pretty much a race of bad*ss fighters. They may be too less inclined to use magic, but the average norn is certainly a much better fighter than the average human and maybe even Charr.

Norn, most peaceful playable race?

BuddhaKeks.4857

Asura : Self-destructive race. One of the major political bodies attacks and is attacked by it’s own citizens on a daily basis.

replace asura with Norn and it stil fits.

Not at all, for the reasons Son of Elias already explained.

Sylvari have a chance of this while Norn are pretty guarenteed.

I’d rank sylvari the most peaceful with norn and asura tied for second.

Asura tie with Norn for the second. That made me chuckle. You should really look better into the races, the Asura are atleast, if not more powerhungry when the Charr. As soon as they can, they will try to get dominance over the whole continent.
Norn might be more violent, on average, as individuals compared to individuals from other races, but they are pretty peaceful as a race. Unlike the Asura for example they never tried to commit genocide on another race (the Skritt in the Asura’s case), in fact it would go against their hunter/legend philosophy to eradicate a species. If they eliminate them all now, in the future no one will have a measurement of how strong they were, meaning your legend could become worthless (or greater if you manage to successfully exaggerate). The major exception being the dragons here, they are too dangerous to leave them alive, even the Norn know that.

Margonites

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

I know ArenaNet has stated in the past that Abaddon is certainly dead. I don’t dispute that. What I don’t understand is how a dead God can still inspire followers, as seen in his sunken temple in Orr when we go there during the PS with Sayeh. His religion seems to be very much alive, and the enemies that we battle within that temple definitely seem to have some kind of power related to Abaddon.

Alive? Not even in the slightest. All enemies in this mission are undead, either Risen or ghosts. Those challangers were orrian priests (not Margonites) who bound their souls to the temple in order to protect it.
“This is the ancient temple of Abaddon, built before the gods made war on each other and Abaddon was cast out.” This is what Sayeh says, the temple was build before Abaddon was cast out, meaning the people that worshipped him here were orrians, however once the god was banished, they abandoned the temple. The priests however, look like normal orrians, meaning they bound their souls to the building, before it was abandoned.

Are Margonites going to appear in GW2? Maybe, but only in sidequests/events I guess, or at a few quests of the main storyline in Elona. I highley doubt they will get a big role again, their part is done. At best we get to see a few to now what happened to them.

Norn, most peaceful playable race?

in Lore

Posted by: BuddhaKeks.4857

BuddhaKeks.4857

Humans are pretty warlike, they have a history of wars and fights among themselves and with many other races. Pretty much everywhere they settled they drove out the indiginous population. Charr in Ascalon (even though they themselve conquered it from the grawl), Tengu and Centaurs in Kryta. We don’t know if something like this happened in Orr, but we have again, Tengu in Shing-Jea and Centaurs in Kourna. However we have to keep in mind that Balthazar appereantly drove the humans to war with many races, as the orrian history scrolls imply.

The Charr are of course rather prone to go to war, they conquered Ascalon several times and tried to do the same with the Norn homelands, were they failed. They also invaded Kryta and Orr, both times failing. We also know they waged war against the Forgotten at one point, and like the humans, they have fought with other races, like Ogres and Grawls.

The Norn seem rather peaceful in comparison, since they don’t go to war. However, keep in mind that they strife for becoming legends, and the most common way to do it, seems to be, kill something that is very strong. However, in broad terms they are one of the most peaceful races in Tyria, since they don’t judge groups, but only individuals by their actions, meaning besides not building armies, they also would never go to war with another race simply because something a few of them have done, is no reason to be hostile to the whole race.

Asura are known to have tried to eradicate the Skritt, so no they aren’t really all that peaceful. We have no sources about them ever going to war, don’t forget though that we know almost nothing about asurian history. Judging by their rather arrogant and at times even supremacist character, I would be surprised if they never fought anyone.

The Sylvari are too young to judge, they are just around for 25 years and haven’t had much interactions with other races. They don’t even have a racial foe like all other races have (humans-centaurs/norn-dredge/asura-skritt/charr-ghosts/harpies?). However the Sylvari are also somewhat the creator’s pet, they are very rarely shown in a bad light, almost anything about them is ment to show off how great they are. That’s the reason why they are so unappealing to me…

The dragons are the six human gods

Uhm to be honest, there could have been EDs killed before, it was just done before the last cycle, meaning we have no records of it. Also there could be way more than six ED, as the Jotun path in Arah implies.

The Six human gods came to Tyria while the dragons were sleeping and they did not know of them. Except Abaddon who may found out about them. I don’t see any direct connection between EDs and gods, besides there number, but in fact as you said yourself, there are more than 6 gods too, it’s just the 6 that are worshipped by humans.

Besides that, the number of playable races in GW2 could easily increase, maybe even up to 8 (Tengu, Kodan, Largos). So this play on the numbers 5 and 6 makes sense now, but it could soon loose it’s meaning.

@Konig: That bit about psychological warfare is exactly what I said.
