I agree, the story immersion in this game just isnt there sometimes. Tybalt got on my nerves so often I was actually glad when he died, same for all the order mentors. They come across as really weak, shallow and forced characters, although this is more to do with the fact that the story missions in this game are so spread apart at times. Its kinda hard to feel for someone you dont see for 2 levels at a time.
If you played GW1, meeting Mhenlo and his gang throughout the campaigns were a nice touch. One wouldn’t experience it with the “I’m the world’s salvation” but “I’m part of something larger trying to fight this. I’m not the only hero.”
- Kind of like “Lord of the Rings” or “The Hobbit” – There were more than just one character there, and they all supported each other and had a relationship with each other and developed throughout the story. In GW2 I feel like I meet characters that are either left behind or killed in action.
- I must, however, say that when fighting alongside Trahearne at the end of the Personal Storyline (before the Arah part) and the sound becomes all silent and “Fear not this Night” is playing while you fight off an army of undead? THAT was actually pretty epic.
Yes, the second to last story mission with Trahearne is the pinnacle of the story line. The fight with Zhaitan afterwards is quite the letdown really. On the topic of Orr story quests, it was kinda nice that so many people from the various storylines came back. Thing is, chances are you’ve never met them in your personal story and yet they act as if you’re meant to already be aware of their backstory when really I couldn’t give a Koss about them. Then most of them die at some point anyway and the game plays sad music like im meant to care. I never even knew who they were in the first place! And then someone else dies next mission, and the mission after that… and it just loses all effect and cheapens Orr for me.
For the record, I know what devourer he’s talking about, and it’s entirely possible to get one-shotted by it. I ran a full defensive guardian, highly over-leveled for that zone, with appropriate gear, and it still two-shotted me.
So I’m sure lower leveled, lower geared, NOT-defensive guardians can easily get one shotted. I had to do that event myself, as well. He’s not exaggerating about 15 minutes. Not every monster in the game is perfectly scaled and perfectly balanced. Some of the champs and even a few vets are absolutely ridiculous for the zones they’re in.
I’ve been saying this for months… Thank you, I thought I was the only one who experienced this. For this reason I think my preferred PvE playstyle of self imposed permadeath is impossible.
I’ve experienced the veteran devourer of insta-death too. The attack that causes it is an AOE caused by a rock it throws. The rock travels slowlyish through the air and a red circle allows you to dodge the attack. However, if you’re a melle class, like a guardian, and are thus stood toe to toe with said devourer, there is almost no warning of this shotgun rock of death to the face. This is the cause of the one hit kill to newbs in the area. Sad thing is this devourer also guards a skill point.

Both corrupted earth elementals and corrupted oakhearts exist. The elementals are branded earth elementals found in the fields of ruin and other dragonbrand locations. The corrupted oakhearts are part of events in queensdale and caledon forest.
Its the herald.
Always watching, guiding us. We are his seeds of purpose sown into his field of plots. Maybe we grew too fast, outlived the plans he set for us.
Im surprised you cant buy keys with laurels, they seems like the perfect solution.
Looks like my small guild of friends has no chance of ever unlocking these :/
Five characters, three level 80. Mesmer and Necromancer were my favourite to level up, and remain my fave to play.
Rift had something similar to this and it was universally loved by all.
I could see myself using this feature to have seperate trait setups for PvE and WvWvW.
Theres already a system in place that rewards players for everything they do, its called karma. I dont understand why laurels were intoduced in the first place rather than offering us the same rewards but for a karma price. New karma rewards every so often is all the incentive people need to go out into the world and gather karma.
And before anyone brings up the point that people just farm the same events for karma until specific events were nerfed, the same thing is happening with laurels. People go to areas they know are likely to be populated with dead NPC’s just to get the daily healer done, or fling themselves from tall places for their friends.
Yes, I would like to see this happen. I would also like trade system that doesn’t rely on mail.
Just throwing this out there: As part of helping the refugees I travelled along the path through Diessa Plateau, it was my first time playing in this area. Near the path, I thought I saw a single steam minotaur running around. As it was my first time here I didnt think much of it and figured they must be here as well as Lornars Pass. However, people in this thread and the GW2 wiki say they only appear in Lornars Pass.
Now I’m doubting what I saw, but I was so sure at the time that it was a steam minotaur.
In my view, the only reason it would seem quieter than other MMORPG’s is because there is no serverwide chat channel for people to talk in. That being said, individual map chats always seem to have at least a few people chatting in them. I bet if you added all the map chats together this would turn out to seem like quite a busy game.
I kind of like Trahearne…
Necromancers have a similar issue with the Hemophilia trait (+20% bleed duration). 20 points in the necromancer spite trait line grants +20% condition duration, however, having both 20 spite and Hemophilia does not grant +40% bleed duration. It remains at +20%, making it pointless to have them both for extending bleeds.
It could be that Master of Misdirection (+33% confusion duration) is not stacking with 20 points in domination, only taking the higher of the two values.
Of course, I could be completly wrong in all this. This is just from my own observation.
Actually, you can use both scepter air 2 and 3 while channeling 1 (in PvE, if this is not the case in sPvP I apologise).
In keeping with the theme of the water attunment on the other Elementalist weapons, Ice Shards would have to apply vulnerability rather than weakness.
the problem with that is shatter stone already gives 15s of x4 vulnerability on a 2 sec CD so it can be stacked up with ease already..
Create a shatterstone at the target area that explodes after two seconds, inflicting vulnerability.
Damage: 252
4 Vulnerability: 15 s
Radius: 180
Range: 900so why do u need more on your auto attack?
I dont think there should be any vulnerability applied with Ice Shards, sorry for the confusion. I was just pointing out that weakness is not a standard water attunement condition and shouldn’t be made one.

I use D/D, it kills fast and builds up life force faster. I’d prefer focus but the condition transfer utility on the off hand dagger is too useful throughout the game.
I wish there was a use for axe, I’ve tried all sorts and it just has nothing special going for it.
As other people have said, corrupting their boons does slow them down an awful lot. If they’re busy getting rid of conditions for a moment then they’re probably no longer on the offensive while they do so.
A little trick I stumbled across, if they use frost armour and you use an off hand dagger, attack them like crazy. Stack up as much chilled on yourself as possible and then send it back to them using Deathly Swarm. Works best if done after they have recently used a condition remove skill.
A boon destroying necro build sorts out most elementalists I run into in WvWvW. Same with guardians or anything that likes to stack boons really.
In a world of waypoints and asura gates, I dont think engine powered mobility solutions for personal use are much of a priority. Hence why they’re only seen for transporting goods. Dolyaks seems to be the load bearing animal of choice in GW2.
With dungeons relying on teamwork for success (sometimes), Magic Find is the only stat that is completely selfish and doesn’t help the team in any way.
but it doesn’t gimp the team in any way either.
If the person using MF gear is able to keep up with the rest of the team and not provide a hinderance then yes, MF would not be gimping them. However, we’re all human and are prone to mistakes. Those extra stats in place of MF may be the only thing keeping you in the fight. If the player with MF gear is not able enough to contribute equally then they are indeed gimping the team, which is the more likely scenario due to the lack of defensive stats.

Just to clarify, while it says it heals allies it also heals yourself. This trait combined with the Harmonious Mantras trait gives you a total of 4 small self heals from Mantra of Recovery.
This was always going to be a problem, I dont know why they didn’t see this coming. Whatever happened to the environment scaling with the people in the area? I’ve yet to see people on their first character successfully solo a champion, no matter how skilled they may be.
If anyone played rift, they had a similar problem with their events after a while. The low level areas were not populated enough to overcome the events and thus no one got any rewards for them as they were never completed. Rift events took over the whole map when they happened meaning if they couldn’t be beaten then whoever was there on that server was screwed until it despawned. They fixed this by adding a rolling debuff to event creatures making them effectivly weaker the longer they remained in the world, or just depawn faster. They also made the rewards relevent to people of all levels, which got people organised in global chat (something GW2 lacks) and travelling around the world to help clear things up.
It’s like the guardian focus skill ‘Shield of Wrath’ except worse in just about every way.
I remember the good old days of BWE1 where traits were not locked into tiers, meaning you could choose a powerful trait from a trait line with only 10 points in it. Now, while this could be very unbalanced, it was also very free and allowed much more creative builds. The mistake of this system was making the madatory traits (minor traits) not the defining feature of each trait line and not powerful enough to justify putting more points into a trait line to obtain.
I miss how they populated the world. I liked that there were small groups of AI running around killing things, it made the game world feel more alive. I would honestly love to see some Anet made AI doing what the bots did, without the looting and economy part.
But, they already do. Mobs and NPCs aggro off of one another. I’ve already seen scenarios where two event bosses were duking it out with one another.
Wow, I would love to see that
Sadly, the only none event NPC’s I’ve come across can never hold their own against enemies out in the field and are often dead already when I find them.
I have yet to eat bacon.

At the start I loved the idea of the mesmer, and he is my highest level character. However, I’ve recently started a necromancer and I am surprised by how much I like it so far, despite what their subforum thinks of them.
There’s no need to be jelly of Caladbolg (his sword), I used it once and its worse than some of the experiemental asura rifles out there.
They should make a /city chat so all city chats would be linked together. That way you wouldn’t have to just sit in Lion’s Arch.
I always thought this game was a bit quiet without any kind of server-wide chat channel. Even a trade channel or something that allows people to chat where ever they are in the world.
I haven’t touched this event yet, nor did I do much of the halloween event. There probably aren’t many people who share this opinion, but I think they’re bringing out new content too fast. Certainly faster than I can play it.
Sceptre/sword is the most defensive weapon combination we have I think, however, success using it relies on your knowledge of how enemies attack and when they are likely to attack.
This really wouldn’t work with things like dynamic events and big world bosses as the targetting system makes spells and other projectiles hit the first enemy in its path rather than passing through all other entities before hitting. The sheer amount of friendly fire would cripple any sort of teamwork and make actually hitting enemies in large events almost impossible.
The only way around this I can think of at the moment would be grouping up, but unless you shell out 100g for a commander tome then you’ll be stuck with only 5 players that won’t be affected by each others attacks.
I’d rather see the vulnerability condition replaced by the weakness condition, which stacks in duration rather than intensity.
Yeah it’s always appeared, even when you’re underwater and the bird leaves a trail of bubbles behind it.
Karma buys all my salvage kits while levelling multiple characters.
I’d say Ritualist, but now that I think about it, the existing Necromancer class functions how I envision a Ritualist would. (I haven’t played GW1)
I know it’s already been suggested, but I’d like to build on the idea of a shapeshifter. I could imagine it working like an elementalist does now: 4 different forms based on F1 to F4, lower amount of weapons available than other classes with weapon swapping disabled. Each form would have their own trail line with the 5th trait line granting increased speed between transformations. Each form offering a different playstyle.
The only other idea I can think of right now would be some kind of medium armour wearing ranged weapon specialist, who makes use of shortbow, longbow, pistols and rifles. And daggers to use as throwing knives, like the thief.

As others have said, I’ll be playing the game until I’m bored of it. I’ve yet to run into this DR system myself and I regularly play the same maps for hours at a time.

Don’t you know that hyphens aggro grammar nazis?
If a skill is instant cast with no channel, it can be done during a channel. It’s like this for all classes, on my mesmer I can activate signets or switch targets and throw a feedback bubble while maintaining a confusing images channel from a scepter. Reviving someone is one long channel really, makes sense that you can do other things too. Just because your reviving an ally does’nt mean you cant turn the camera towards the enemy and still fling a few abilites at them. It’s the same principle behind using lightning flash during a churning earth charge-up.
Take the copper and throw it off the diving board in lions arch, see if you can kill a fish.
The power of the internet compels me to make no contribution to this.
I honestly can’t fathom why people are offended when they see other people speaking in a different language. What is it that bugs these people?
I think you get either the nearest waypoint or the last waypoint used for free.
