BLoodlust without rewards = Abandoned?

My guess would be there’s no WXP reward for capturing a point to avoid rank boosting.

Imagine it’s late at night/early morning, very little people online on lower tier servers. Person A and Person B are on opposing servers. Person A stands in the point and captures it, then moves out of the point. Person B stand in the point and captures it, then moves out of the point. Repeat until their hands bleed from excessive cross server high-fiving and they both walk away with lots of WXP earned from doing almost nothing.

Ye Olde Condition Cap

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

If increasing the 25 stack cap is not possible, they could experiment with adjusting the scaling of the condition damage stat and the amount of stacks each player skill inflicts on an enemy.

By increasing condition damage, decreasing condition duration and amount of stacks applied, it might be possible to allow a single player to do the same damage with 7 stacks of bleed as they would with 15, giving more room in the potential stack for other players to add in their condition stacks and not be brushed off.

This idea is only based around small scale encounters however, huge world events would most likely be unaffected.

An indepth analysis of WvW meta

in WvW

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

These changes would only further unbalance WvW against an outmanned server. Seige being so easily deployable in its current state allows small teams of people to at least attempt to defend themselves and their towers. If supply cost per seige went up to those extreme levels losing servers would almost never be able to defend themselves, further increasing the score gap between winning and losing servers.

It only takes a few people to flip a camp and deny someone resources for a while and people can only carry 10-20max supply per person. With constant camp disruptions from the server with most people online, it could potentially take an hour or more to build even a single treb. When seige despawn timers are factored in, some seige in these situation might not ever be built. Infact, if a winning server had all the towers/keeps on a map, all they would need to do is zerg supply camps whenever they were contested to ensure complete and utter dominance over an outmanned server.

It’s a nice idea in a perfect world, but server population unbalances do exist and not all servers can muster night crews to defend their land. In short, your anti-zerg themed changed would only benefit those with the biggest zerg and the best coverage.

One thing I noticed while reading through those links is that, like this thread, several people are complaining about only finding a few keys through drops. However, those links you provided are from the first few months of the game. A few keys in 3 months is a far better drop rate than a few keys in 8 months.

I can confirm that at the very start of GW2 the keys had a decent drop rate. It was not rare to get at least 1 a day just from normal questing within the first few weeks of playing. Infact, during headstart there was a point where I had more keys than chests.

The drop rate of keys has been fiddled with since launch, as was the drop rate of dyes.

Writing Out Trahearne

in Lore

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

I really hope Trahearne isn’t written out, he’s the best character in this game and by that I mean he’s the mose convincing. He’s like an adult in a playground of children, the only NPC with his head screwed on right. Most characters in this game are far too pantomime in my opinion and just dont feel fleshed out or serious enough at all. Trahearne actually has a personality, he isn’t some great hero of legend and doesn’t seek to make his mark on the world, he just seems to want to get his head down and do his job most of the time. I find his voice a refreshing change from other NPC’s shouting and spouting cliche lines with every breath, walking around in a perpetual cloud of cheese mist. I think people misunderstand the perceived ‘pessimism’ around his dialogue entering battle. To me, “This wont end well” always came across as a warning to his enemies if they came any closer, rather than a prediction of his own performance. Some may call Trahearne bland, but I call him believeable.

For the record, I also quite liked Tybalts character. I just wish he wasn’t part of the order of whispers, he really doesn’t fit there and his presence with them seems to be one of the main reasons people dislike the GW2 order of whispers compared to how they were portrayed in GW1.

Engineers can do most things, just not as well as other classes.

Necros can do most things, just not as good as other classes and for twice as long! So there!

Haha, possibly. Care to elaborate?

In turn ill make make my post clearer, but keep in mind this is all my opinion based on my personal experience.

Engineers can do a few things that other classes/builds can do, albeit not as well, in a single build. In the same weapon, trait and utility set up without having to swap any of them between fights. I would rate a 4 kit engineer as more versatile than an elementalist.

Necromancers can do what other classes/builds can do but only when heavily traiting and speccing for it. And then, unlike engineers, necros are stuck like this and only excel in this one aspect and suck at everything else. Situation changes mid battle? Too bad, better run awa… nope, looks like you didnt bring Spectral Walk or Flesh Worm to this party, looks like you get to eat dirt. Anyway, ill cut this short here before I go off on a rant.

Necro Changes

in Necromancer

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

wbonetwo makes a very valid point. Fighting at 1200 range in a 1v1 situation in WvWvW is a pain. We’re only able to use marks reliably because they they’re quick to lay down. Necrotic Grasp moves so slowly it doesn’t even need to be dodged to avoid it, just a quick change in direction. Spectral Grasps fails more often than not in my experience and Dark Path has only 900 range (when it works).

If Necrotic Grasp isn’t ever going to be sped up I would at least like to see Life Blast given a 1200 range, or even a trait that increases the range on all Death Shroud abilites.

How long did it take to find your playstyle

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

Within each single character, I find I cant really stay in one fixed set of weapons, armour, traits and skills. They change based on the situation and what I think will be most effective at that time. However, for general multipurpose use, I found it best to equip a shorter range weapon with ‘cleave’ and a long range weapon as backup to cover a wide range of enemies.

GW2 classes arnt as fixed in definitive combat roles as classes from other MMORPG games, with all GW2 classes being able to do at least a little bit of everything. So instead of each class bringing their specific use, each GW2 class comes with their own playstyle, themes, mindsets etc. Because of this, I would suggest you ask people what class they beleive best solidifies their preferred playstyle, if any. To answer this question, I would say none, I am an chronic altaholic. :p

Better lore implementation

in Lore

Budg.3064

I would like to see an improved book interface in GW2. At the moment, books use the same box as NPC dialogue which only allows for around 2 sentences per box. It was quite dissapointing when I got into the Priory library the first time expecting to be there for a long while. It’s been done in MMORPG’s before, both Aion and Rift had books scattered around the world with nice, large peices of text in them which allowed them to actually tell a short story or at least include enough information to make up a small magazine column. Infact, in Rift each player picked up a copy of the book and kept it with them at all times in its own area on the UI, which is GW2 would equate to a literature tab in the hero window.

I know it’s a small nitpick but it’s one I feel would really improve the way developers could scatter lore around the world. Those notes and journals and scraps of paper left lying around places of ruin or at the end of crypts etc. could have multiple entries and really flesh out the area.

Life With Minions: A Discussion

I mostly WvWvW on my Necromancer these days so I never really had much use for minions, however, I have found myself using the Flesh Wurm an awful lot recently. If our zerg runs into an enemy zerg I normally place it at the back of our zerg and use it to escape if things go badly for us. Another use I found for it that I dont see anyone else doing is casting it on top of walls. While it might not last long it does attack people caught by your staff marks and can continue to damage them when they run out of view. From this position you can also use Necrotic Traversal to poison anyone around it on top of the wall.

What’s the point of the stealth nerf if taking damage doesn’t de-cloak you? This is the only online game I’ve played with a stealth mechanic where people can take hits and still be invisible.

Name one game where stealth targets gets revealed when they take damage? Just from top of my head Dota/Dota 2 – works like GW2, Planetside 2 – works like GW2, Mass Effect – works like GW2, seriously i cant think of one game where invisible targets gets revealed after taking damage. The way how is it in GW2 is pretty standart mechanic imo…

As people have already said: Aion, TF2. Also Rift and a F2P game called Requiem that I doubt anyone has ever heard of.

Edit: To add to this, if you were cloaked in these games you moved at a reduced movement speed unless traited or using a higher level stealth skill. Some classes in Aion had stealth detection skills. In all of these games it was impossible to stealth while in combat bar the use of high cooldown skills that could be used once per fight at max. And in these games people still managed to wreck with stealth classes, yet thieves in GW2 cry about how about how nerfed and unplayable they are despite them having, by far, the easiest and most abusable stealth mechanic in any online game I’ve come across.

Grab a staff, grab the greater marks trait, stick with your servers zerg and plant marks all over any walls your zerg happens to be attacking. Stay near the back of the zerg and be one of the first people to run when things go bad, otherwise you probably won’t escape. Use staff marks wisely and dont blow them all at once. Bathe in a torrent of loot bags from tagging so many enemies.

I got my mesmer to level 80 and came to the conclusion that they were not what I was looking for. So I tried the necromancer and have been playing him since. I’ve dabbled with every other class except ranger and I keep coming back to the necromancer.

Not a great idea for such a young MMO

in Living World

Posted by: Budg.3064

Budg.3064

I can’t help but agree. This method of content updates just doesnt have the same substance as previous games. The very idea of something happening or changing in the world whether you’re there or not is not going to grow fond memories for any kind of casual audience or players who miss out on such events due to other real life responsabilities. Southsun cove is a good example, any new players joining the game around now will probably have no idea of the relevence behind the karka and will probably wonder why there is an empty level 80 zone in the middle of the sea.

This method also greatly reduces the amount of time people will be playing the game. Older games with expansions of new areas etc. still have those areas open to new people joining the game late. At this stage in GW2 there is just the personal story and the living story. With the living story constantly progressing and removing the old living story content to make way for new content, a new player will only ever have the personal story and the current living story available to them. Older players will have had the entire living story up until that point, with the experience and the memories of what happened in them. New players get shafted, feel hard done to and decide their time is better spent elsewhere. I know it sound ridiculous but in my experience, this is what happens over the course of the life of such MMORPG games.
