I “invested” time in 9 characters so far. Love them all. As a matter of fact the 9th was not supposed to be, I just wanted a starter skin. I should not have played with the character editor. But I blinked. I looked. And the sylvari looked back at me.

You are putting too much pressure on yourself. Recently I’ve decided to mainly play my charr warrior. What do I need conditions for when the mobs drop? Besides, mine are bleeding like crazy, must be my claws.

No class should do everything exceptionally well – that would have to be considered “overpowered”.

Close your eyes and wait which character rises to the top in your mind – you say you’ve played them all and done well with all of them (sPvP).

Hold that image.

Now be. Be ButterOfDeath and command butterflies or let arrows rain from the sky. Your time is now.

Here, consider listening to (something like) this.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WU7SGn0MeP0

if i could COMMAND butterflies i’d be level 81 by now…lel…and actually my time can’t be now cause the PC is broken

lolololol anyway…if i close my eyes i see a Mesmer, but then i see an Engineer too,and then i see this image (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/9/92/Professions_reveal_12_%28highlighted%29.jpg) but with ingame characters instead of drawn characters…what now?

Let’s cut down the decision between Mesmer and Engineer…Mhmmmm…

@mercury: My idea of RP in a MMORPG is mostly my role while “on duty” i mean,i could either be an archer or a mage, but if both do the same thing (example: kiting to death enemies) then i tend to group the two.

Like you said,i have to invest time, that’s the issue: after a few hours of gameplay, even while enjoying it,i ask myself if the time i’m investing is invested right (of course i could be doing something more useful than playing on a computer,it’s relative)…so my mind gets puzzled.
I do not feel a bad player,i’ve done well with any class (in sPvP,where i tried all of them, deeply enough), but i don’t feel to have that balance between power, versatibility and viability.
Example: The engineer and the mesmer are worth it,however will they get nerfed/buffed? Will they get the bugs fixed? Wich one has the best look? Wich one does feel the better? and so on.
If i’d be a fan of cleric classes i’d already be a level 80 guardian, instead i like “fancy and twisty” classes, what now?

I feel like a little boy who has to choose between chamander, squirtle and bulbasaur…just…hurr…what now? You like all 3,but only one will be yours;that’s where i get blocked and bumped back :s

You should just play warrior. They’re very strong in dungeons.

What about condition damage? isn’t it lacking?
Other than signet/shout/100blade build,is there something truly viable?

ButterOfDeath.2873

Hello everybody,i have one of the strangest issues ever: My brain keeps dumping decisions whenever i wish to play a RPG game,so i’m asking a little help to GW2’s community.
Long story short: in almost 1 year none of my toons reached level 80 XD
That’s because i can’t decide my identity…i already asked some tips to decide, but it’s an infinite cycle…and i’d like to end it,now, while my PC is broken so i can reflect a bit.

Now,the kitten’s got real: what to choose? I’m looking for serious tips, wich can eventually help me decide…
So,this would be my main,Asura,of course, and i’d use such character for PvE,WvW and a bit of PvP,i don’t care about how hard it is to reach level 80,what i care about is the late game, when the real kitten shows up.

So…Mesmer: It’s fancy,disturbing,butterflying…and slow…
I like the feel of the mesmer in my hands, how abilities react, they’re fast and reactive…however the lack of swiftness is a big pain in the kitten, and seeing how the mesmer is a popular hate,i can smell nerfs, slow nerfs, turning a dangerous mesmer into a butterfly spammer…that’s what hold me down…

Now,the Engineer: fancy(ier),doesn’t give a kitten and can do about anything…however that “anything” stops him from excelling,no weapon swaps, turrets aren’t powerful enough and kits reclaim an utility slot.
I’m fine with that,i love kits, however tht’s always the same appearance and…the stunbreakers? Whenever i used my engineer,i rocked until a nasty stun managed to smash my awesome hitbox, turning me into dead flesh.
So,kits are fun but 1 stunbreaker is needed…what about elites? the mortar ain’t great, neither the elixir X,however the supply drop is really good.

The necro: someone told me “just pick the class you’d like to be!” and i’d like to be a necro…a forever alone guy with a few minions,a few marks in mah pocket and shiny black light (wut?)…however the necro disappointed me.
Condition control is amazing, really,if a guardian uses the all boons shout then you’ve already won, however, physical damage sucks, the axe is awkward, the dagger isn’t the best option either and many abilities just feel wrong.
The DS is a half-fail too: it’s boring, and only works well once, then good luck getting back your life force :s
What hold me from scrapping the necro are the cool animations it has and the condition control it provides.

The ranger: i like bows,i like pets, seems all right, however the utilities really feel wrong, really wrong.
Traps feel awkward, spirits don’t even move without a grandmaster trait and other classes support much better than a spirit build ranger.
Apart from that (totally not a little issue, lol) weapon’s abilities are really cool, except the axe wich i don’t like and the sword’s 1,i mean, why does it snare you?

The elementalist: it’s abilities feel great, probably the best support class, can tank alot and also do high damage…the thing that holds me down is that it doesn’t have weapon swaps, the attunements are all from the same 1(or 2) weapon(s) and so it lacks the engineer’s choose, with the payoff consisting of 3 free utilities(or 4).
What really holds me is the D/D weapon set: that’s just much more powerful compared to other weapon sets,it offers much more versatility and it’s much more used, however this means the “flexibility” gets dumped into D/D bunker build with cantrips as utilities :s and the conjured weapons are so bad

Last: Warrior and Guardian.
The guardian is te go-to class right now,it has damage, tankyness and condition removal, can support, burst and defend at will and it’s special abilities are just too good.
While the warrior doesn’t have the condition damage the guardian gets for free,it has much more cc (mace+shield…) and can support using banners, wich can also be used to “gift” swiftness to who doesn’t have it (hiya mesmers!) while providing good AoE buffs.
Stances feel awkward, most weapon abilities are boring a shouting gets repetitive.

So,these are my concerns about the professions in this game, right now i’d say “mesmer or engineer”…but things change and i’ve been changing mind for over 10 months,so i only scrap the thief, for it’s lack of versatility.

If someone who has a nice experience can give me tips about choosing,i’d be glad to read such tips…cause… kitten 10+ months?!?

Thank you for reading, sorry for the wall of text.

OPINIONS?
God yes

for necros: a legendary fix to the minions (sarcasm)

no seriusly,how about:
necros> dark aura (similiar to the one that happens when you summon a minion) that leaves a black shadowy trail, wich makes special effects when attacking (i’d think of spheres of dark magic coming out from the ground when you attack, aaaw yeah!)

Thieves> a hood that makes you do emotions in a red-magic style while fighting/doing
emotions yourself;your face should be obscured, and replaced with a “:)” …it’d be so kitten cool X)

Guardians>holy glow .

Warrior> flame glow + fire burst when shouting -

i’d love that

Hello everybody,my pc broke just a few days after the beginning of SAB (so i even lost all the limited skins,gg) and i was wondering how’s the situation out there with the recent patches.
I was thinking to start off a new character to do something new and fresh,so i was thinking to do a necromancer or a ranger, however i’ve no idea what’s the situation.

I’ve heard the necromancers have a huge amount of serious bugs, while almost every time i’ve seen a ranger it didn’t go very well (for the ranger) but i’ve heard about nice buffs…by the way,any big nerf for the other classes?

Hello, just a moment ago i’ve done a sPvP match…and i’ve notices there was something strange with the combat log: often, another mesmer, managed to deal me 8-15 damage (almost irrivelant) using an ability called “Proximity Anguish”…What is this supposed to be?
There is no such thing on the wiki, and on gw2db (http://www.guildhead.com/skill/11458/proximity-anguish) it is way too generic.

Does anyone know anything more about this?

many players talking about turrets...

ButterOfDeath.2873

…So i’ve spent a little of my time to try to find that so talked turret build.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQFAUlIqSVnrSbF1LJRIFJWwgeY38iXRFu8nCsF;ToAAzCpoCzAmAMbRuwkFNE4UC here’s the result.
It is a build based on turrets, hard CC and condition damage.
It is easily countered with stability, and high range attacks.

Rifle-sigil of smoldering / sigil of purity,at your personal preference
Elite supplies can be swapped with autotool installation.
Any heal skill is fine,i prefer the heal turret for the cleanse.

So,about the build:
Traits 10/30/20/10/0
Explosives: incendiary powder,to apply burning when critting
Firearms: sitting duck, cause you’ll rely on hard CC alot
hair trigger,to lower the rifle’s cooldowns
napalm specialist, cause we’ll deal mostly burn damage
Inventions: metal plating,to increase turret’s survival
elite supplies/autotool installation,to have a better elite or make your turrets heal.
Alchemy: acidic coating, cause it’s nice to apply poison during a fight

Runes
2 runes of the forge-for burning duration
2 runes of the baelfire-for burning duration
2 runes of lyssa-for condition duration

Gameplay
Of course, this is a sPvP build,so your objective is to defend and secure capture points.
The turrets shouldn’t be placed immediatly, instead, they should when the enemy is already in a short range.
The healing turret should be positioned last, and in the back of the fight.
The first turret to be placed is the flamethrower one, near the middle of the upcoming fight, and the rocket tower near any edge, away from the healing turret and far enough to don’t take AoE damage that was aimed to the middle.
Lastly, the net turret, before placing it be sure to use your toolbelt skill, and while placing it overcharge all your turrets. It has to be placed in any of the remaining edges.
When you’ll deploy the net turret, the enemy should be inside the area of the c.point, and this is where the fun begins: while the net turret will stun your enemy,go near it,do a double jump(5 skill of rifle) and use your blunderbuss; then use your overcharged shot to pull him near the net turret, and wait for the turret to immobilize him again when he comes up,then you’ll do the same once more.

This chain of abilities should lead to huge condition damage, while having the enemy crippled in place for a long time.

I tested it once just now and it seems to work well: i’ve been able to tank a guardian and an engineer for about two minutes, but then the net turret got destroyed :s

ButterOfDeath.2873

I have experience with the mesmer, and i’d suggest you to choose that one:
awesome burst
defensive
both condition and physical damage
can tank well
if paired with a few guardians is OP
in WvW and dungeons they are awesome
very fun to play

The awkward thing is that closes actually don’t exceed 40 dmg each hit…but they apply conditions!
Early on they’ll be useless, but after reaching your best traits,so level 40,they become really, really good at spamming conditions.

The elementalist isn’t played as the highest dmg class, instead,it’s played as support-tanky class: it has a lot of heals, regens and buffs, that can apply to allies, while healing itself with small heals, that are released over a long time.
Actually a well played aura elementalist can buff a team better than 3 guardians, wich is amazing.
However,it feels like the best weapon set is dagger/dagger,and it might also get nerfed…that is what holds me from using it: i want to be able to do well with any weapon set equally.

Not sure about the necro,it can have 5 minions using heal skill,3 utilities (them all) and the elite golem, maybe more using traits/runes. however i don’t really like that profession.

I know you asked for scholars, but you may also like the Engineer:it’s hard to master, mostly used as a tanky-support applying heavy CC.
There are a huge amount of good builds, and it’s very fun to play, however armors aren’t exciting. Doing PvE with an engineer is as easy as possible.

IMO: mesmer/engineer>elementalist>necro

I have both and enjoy them both. My main love is and will always be the engineer. But both in dungeons as in PvP and WvW the mesmer is better.

The reason I prefer the engineer more is the playstyle wich is less chaotic then that of the mesmer imo.

That’s the same thing with me: i feel the mesmer goes better all around, but the engineer is more appealing to my personal taste,by just a little.

IMO the warrior is boring: if i were in ANET’s position i’d have made the 1st game without a boring warrior: using as special ability combos.(attack 2,then attack 3,again attack 3 to apply the combo status, then one of the aviable finishers. or something like that)

However, right now it is,IMO,the most boring class.
I’d rather go guardian, but i prefer more articulate(does this word exist?) gameplay, such as ele, engineer and mesmer.

Giving turrets a clear purpose

in Engineer

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

How about:
Turrets do much more damage and fire much faster
Turrets have a 20 seconds deploy time
The more time they are deployed, the more health and armor they’ll have
You can manually stop the turret deployment
Turrets will stop deploying, becoming ready for use,if the player gets downed
Turrets have 10 seconds cooldown if the deployment is anticipated
Turrets are invincible for X seconds (i’d suggest 5) from their deployment

This way them will also be able to be used as last resource defense system: almost dead? cool, your turret you just deployed is shooting enemies…however it has like 500 hp and no armor…better than nothing!

That’d finally make me roll turrets in my kit…specially in PvE

Then there could be traits like:
if you get downed turrets will be automatically deployed with X% health
turrets deploy X% faster
manually deploying a turret creates a blast finisher
manually deployed turrets will deal electric damage to nearby enemies/while deploying turrets deal electric damage to nearby enemies
if you get downed all turrets are healed to full health and armor
healing turret will try to revive allies if fully deployed
turrets will absorb X% of damage you’d take instead
while deploying turrets will have reflection
Being in the range of a deploying turret buffs you and nearby allies

How cool would it be?!?

ButterOfDeath.2873

Yesterday, after a long and pretty hard format of my computer(for tons of reasons) i’ve finally been able to get my hands on GW2 again, and i’ve seen engineers have been slightly buffed: kits now have a different way to scale, and they can be swapped in mid air,so i immediatly thought to this super-bunker build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fcAQJAqel0pyaX3SyF17IxoHfuzbOkiCbYRKyvlB;TgAA1CtoKyUkoIbRuikFB
It uses kits and it’s designed for PvP.
The purpose of this build is to keep yourself alive, while denying enemies control.

How it’s played and how it works:
I’ve chosen speedy kits,invigorating speed,adrenal implant,kit refinement,backpack generator to give me a 250% total endurance regeneration (so 150% bonus) with a 100% uptime,together with a 100% uptime of regeneration.
Also, healing mist, the elixir gun swap, and the super elixir will provide regeneration to nearby allies too.
Also, runes of lyssa and kit refinement will be a great pain for your enemies:providing both damage and healing while not even needing to attack by yourself!

Protection is given by protective shield, your elite and randomly by your Q,however this build isn’t based on protection, but on regeneration and dodging instead.

It is played by spamming your Q,to keep yourself mobile and apply vigor, then the best thing to do while in combat is to spam all the keys: it may not be effective to the max,but works pretty well even if you play blind.
However by using your skills correctly you’ll be able to outstand anyone:
to keep someone at a distance double tap your pistol 4 twice, use your pistol 3,swap to flamethrower, active the toolbelt skill 2,use the flamethrower skill 3 and 4,swap to toolkit, use toolkit 2,swap to medikit.
if the enemy attacks back (you’ll deal very little damage,so it will probably happen) pop your pistol 5,swap to flamethrower, flamethrower 5 and 2,swap to toolkit, toolkit 3 and 4,swap to medikit, swap to flamethrower, flamethrower 3,swap to elixir gun.
At this point, you can keep going by:elixir gun 2,toolbelt 3,fumigate,super elixir right behind you, then acid bomb, swap while in mid air to pistol, then swap to medikit.

The cooldowns are low,so you can just keep doing that over and over.

When an enemy can overcome you (generally happens when 3 or more thieves with hearthseeker build attack you) the best option is to run in circle around the capture point: if any enemy is trying to catch you, you’ll get much more survivability from that: dodges, blocks, heals and regeneration make a perfect way to gain time, additionally if you healed back you could swap to elixir gun and use acidic bomb,to be again in the face of your enemies ready to tank it all again.

Remember to save your pistol 4,5 and toolkit 4 for burst enemies,or dangerous situations.
Of course, dodge anything you can! while someone will dodge 2 times you can dodge 5 times! it’s almost a 100% uptime of dodge!

In case your team comes to aid the fight, drop the supply crate, swap to elixir gun, healing mist and super elixir: the result is yourself having all sort of buffs, with the enemies stunned and the allies having a huge heal over time ready to use.

What do you think about this build? how would you improve it? i’ve tried it a little yesterday and i’ve been pretty happy with the results.
First i’ve met a life steal warrior:the fight lasted up to 12 minutes then he stopped attacking me…lol
Then i’ve met a backstab thief…i didn’t even have to dodge to keep myself over 80% hp
And finally i’ve met a guardian and a bunker ele, both were a long fight, but i’ve been able to keep my control point.

I’ve had issues with a conditionmancer(cause i’ve forgotten about medikit 4) and two hearthseeker thieves,it was the only time i died.

Looking for a fun class

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

I’d suggest Mesmer:
while fighting they’re the fastest, maybe on par with Thieves, with blinks, dashes, teleports and such things.

A mesmer can pick his staff and build tanky, becoming a very nice tanky-dps-support.
There are also a lot of (imo viable) builds: glamour builds, crit build, condition build, mantra build, bunker build, shatter build and so on.

However, they lack blocks(they only have aegis provided randomly by chaos storm (and maybe by chaos armor too) and they really lack mobility while not fighting.

imo the funniest class to play.

New idea to fix all the kits easily

in Engineer

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

People, the kit won’t replace the toolbelt skills,it will only swap with them!

if i have the wrench kit equipped to,let’s say,the 7 key,i can swap abilities nonstop between the wrench throw and the 3rd kit ability!

Also, this means that the #1 ability of each kit would be lost,as the toolbelt only has 4 abilities,so in exchange there could be:
a) a slight buff for kits
b) a (much more interesting) passive effect!
example: equipping the bomb kit we’d lose the ability to place the 1st bomb, however there could be a passive ability that every 3 seconds, for example,we drop a bomb, how’d that be?

New idea to fix all the kits easily

in Engineer

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

I’ve heard that…however in that discussion the suggestion was to put the kits in the toolbelt, while i’m suggesting to remove the #1 ability of all kits, and put all the other abilities to the toolbelt when the kit is equipped,so 1 kit would give us 8 toolbelt abilities.
What changes is that while using a kit we could still use the equipped weapon! wouldn’t that be awesome?

Well, the thing is that that can already be done if you have a sharp wit, quick fingers, and good keybindings. Because the kits don’t have lengthy cooldowns on swap, it’s entirely possible to open with a few Hip Shots, wait a moment, Net Shot, swap to flamethrower, unload a flame jet, air blast, swap to rifle, knockback shot, swap to flamethrower, use 2, lay down a napalm, etc. etc.

Using more kits is doable too, and all this without losing any abilities. While true that we could save a small amount of time in these rotations by placing the kit skills over the toolbelt skills, we lose immediate access to our extra utilities, which could be much more important than a rotation skill.

Yeah, but then you’ll be able to use a kit while using your weapon at the same time!

bomb kit on your f1-f4,and weapon on 1-5,for example, while now you have to swap every time, and still couldn’t use both as easily.

I don’t see what your idea adds in terms of versatility. Unless I’m understanding it wrong. You could already use your weapon skills by switching out of the kit.

Edit: I really like the pick your own toolbelt skill idea. Now that would add some versatility. The tech already exist more of less. Just gotta make them work like utility slots and list all the toolbelt skills. Although it gets a little complicated when you have utility skills “stealing” the toolbelt slot in order to detonate.

using a flamethrower VS using a flamethrower and a rifle…wich is better, and by conseguence, more versatile?

The versatility is added by having kit’s abilities and weapon abilities all ready at once.

some toolbelt skills, like the turrets’ that make the turret esplode after you’ve placed it wouldn’t replace your kit’s abilities, meaning that if you have the rifle turret in the 2nd slot, and the flamethrower equipped, you’ll have the flamethrower’s #3 ability (because the #1 gets removed) and not the turret detonation.
To access that skill, you’d have to unequip the kit.

If you meant Gurt’s suggestion,i do agree it’d be really nice, but then how would we select the toolbelt abilities?

New idea to fix all the kits easily

in Engineer

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

Don’t like it myself. I’d much rather see the toolbelt and utilities separated from each other and kits become skills that we could put in the toolbelt if we wanted to. But most seem to think that’d make us too much like elementalists. (Bollocks if you ask me.)

Engineers are supposed to be versatile, however engineers aren’t at all, this would change many things!

Or…maybe we could choose 1 kit and use it as weapon swap, but then we should be limited to 1 (maybe 2 with the heal kit) kits…and i like having tons of kits :<

edit

your suggestion,to pick toolbelt skills at your free choose, would be very hard to realise.
A selection area made only for that profession, reworking all other utilities to fit this change,i’m sure ANET wouldn’t do it.
Instead, the already have made a “change toolbelt skill” mechanic, for example while placing a turret or changing utility skill,so it should be much, much easier to implement,in a much faster way.

However, your idea might be better if made real.

Staff + GS Rotation?

ButterOfDeath.2873

greatsword: 4-2,3 (shatter here if you can finish the enemy),some auto attacks,5 when the enemy is close, swap to staff, chaos storm, walk inside it while doing at least 1 autoattack, use 2,use 3,4 when your chaos shield wears off, swap to GS,4 again,2 and 3.

Meanwhile you can shatter stuff while doing so.

edit

IMO,this weapon set always works great! i used GS from level 2,Staff+GS when i unlocked the 2 slots…and still using it at level 21.

However,i miss focus’ swiftness and reflection,so i use the feedback bubble for the reflection (and spamming confusion!),pain inveter to be used with the chaos storm, and decoy.
works wonderfully imo.

When you’ll have to deal with conditions, you can swap radiation field with arcane thievery or null field, the decoy can be swapped for the blink, and the feedback bubble can be swapped for the mimic ability.

How does Condition Damage work?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

What i’ve understood is that it stacks time, and based on the time you applied it will use your condition damage for that time…example:
A has 200 condition damage and applies poison for 5 seconds
B has 300 condition damage and applies poison for 10 seconds

the enemy,will receive 5 seconds of A’s poison,with A’s condition damage,and then,it will receive 10 seconds of B’s poison with B’s condition damage.

IF(it’s not like that, but let’s say that it is) poison has a base damage of 10,and scales 1:1 with condition damage (each second),A should deal 210X5 damage, while B should deal 310X10 damage, with a total of 4150 damage, that is distributed this way: 1050 damage in 5 seconds and 3100 damage in 10 seconds.

Think at it like a queue…

New idea to fix all the kits easily

in Engineer

ButterOfDeath.2873

Hello, today i had this idea,i’ve never seen such idea in the forum before so i’ve decided to post it here.
The idea,is that when you use a kit,it will no more grant you an autoattack ability, and will replace your toolbelt abilities.
This means you’ll always have your weapon equipped, making yourself much more versatile and it will require much more skill to use kits in a useful way…and the engineer would probably become the profession with the highest skillcap!

A note about the static discharge: the bolt should activate only once each kit, with a 5 seconds cooldown each kit, else it’d be really overpowered,so,it’d be possible to: apply vulnerability+surprise shot+wrench trow+heal with the toolbelt ability+swap to the heal kit and use any ability+swap to the wrench kit and use one more ability…to a total of 6 bolts…all while being able to use your equipped weapon!

What do you think about this idea? Any constructive commet is really appreciated

This was my bunker build when I still played tpvp. You won’t be killing anyone though lol

You can swap the shatter = remove condition for shatter = heal and replace mimic with null field if you want.

Why would you ever use Warden’s feedback without a focus equipped? O.o

Since you were happy with your build, I stopped repling.

http://goo.gl/ASQtD

This is the build I thought would fit your liking, without ignoring the mesmers main mechanic shatters, or not using our most powerful skill portal.

It is similar to the build FLIMP posted.

If you want to be mobile defending two points, or the situation requiers it use portal.
If you want to defend one point, use null field.

But maybe the worst build ever for you :p

You might want to switch Chaos III to Chaos V.

That build looks interesting,i’ll check it out soon ^.^

I threw this together taking your basic build, and mixing it up.

http://tinyurl.com/cg387wl

Without restorative mantras i don’t see the need of mantra of recovery; ether feast might be better for this build.
Except for that,i’ll check that one too ^.^

Ahh you people and your terrible mantra builds. Keep trying, one day you’ll realise they just don’t compete vs other classes for bunker.

Mantra builds may give you random success in your typical sPvP match, to be truly fair regarding the builds’ usability you will have to run it in the environment it is intended for.

You want to run tournaments? Use it there. My guess is that your build is going to fall apart in a real match. One of the main strengths of a mesmer is the ability to adapt which Mantra’s allow BUT they have a major downside too and they’re frankly not nearly as good at bunkering as Ele’s, Guardians, Engi’s. The upside is that they have amazing team support so if you want to use this build in conjunction with a Condi necro/engi/ranger you can seriously kick was butt.

I didn’t want to focus on mantras, and i didn’t want to make a mantra build: i’ve tried to make a build that could sustain long fights (i love those long, endless fights) and restorative mantras plus the mantra of recovery made me think about a great way to recover HP during a fight, also mantra of concentration is a mesmer’s best source of stability, and i’d have used arcane thievery instead of mantra of resolve, however restorative mantras made me prefer such ability.

IMO,what this build is truly missing,is a reliable block: right now the only way to block melee attacks (or any non-projectile attack) is to use chaos storm and hope to get a few aegis…

Ok,done a 3rd game…and it went horribly: 3 thieves were running around together with a full crit build: even with the armor i had and the heals they could kill me before i’ve been able to pop my mass invisibility…what the…i wish i had a block such as warrior’s…

(i’m so sad i managed to script some modifications for pokemon fire red…lol…)

edit
done another 2 spvp games: in the 1st i’ve tanked 4 players while we passed from around 230 points to 500…3 rangers and 1 necro
in the 2nd one i’ve died once because of a mesmer who morphed me while casting mass invisibility x.x

now i’m confused :s

I believe that it works, I just think this build can be refined further.

How much did Restorative Mantras help?* Greatly: they heal alot and kept me from death once (while kept me healthy during hardest fights)*
How long is the uptime of your Phantasms? Depends about wich phantasm and against wich class, also against wich enemy:
an iWarden against a ranger can last over 10 seconds, while a iDefender against a crit build warrior gets melted in a bunch of seconds.
Anyway,i always had at least 1 phantasm up,and usually 2 of them.

Do you feel you are a better bunker than an ele or guardian?I didn’t really try bunker ele and bunker guardian, however i’ve met a bunker elementalist in my 2nd match and i handled it quite well.Probably not better but as viable.

Wich is the weapon you use? also, wich utilities do you use? wich runes? and wich sigils?

It looks nice, but conditions may be a very serious problem!
Also chilled and poison will greatly reduce your effectiveness,do you have a counter for that too?

by the way,i’ve tested the mesmer build in two sPvP matches…it rocks so hard O.O

Tested it in 2 games sPvP:
1st game: 6 kills,never died,5 points neutralized,6 captured. top captures.
2nd game: 7 kills,never died,7 points neutralized,7 captured,top points neautralized,top points captured,top kills.

It seems to go very well imo x)

Once i’ve been sorrounded by a thief, two mesmer and a guardian, that was the only time i’ve popped mass invisibility, then i survived alone about 20-30 seconds, after that time i had 40% hp and my team reached the point.

Oh and the team points:
1st game: 500/355 points
2nd game: 500/277 points

I guess i should’ve recorded it,but i’m too lazy to download any software (or it can be recorded from gw2 itself?)

I use restorative mantras to heal when i need to recharge my mantras,i don’t waste my mantras on purpose: i plan to use this build for very, very long fights to defent a point, mantras recharge fast enough and can be used at any time after charged,so with a good amount of healing power they heal quite alot.

Regeneration can also be obtained from chaos armor, wich can be obtained in two ways:with the ability or the leap finisher.

An enemy can’t have an unlimited resource of AoE,i guess, and phantasms are never near each other for much time, also,i have 1 phantasm with high health that i can spawn at any time, one that reflect bullets and one with the staff, one stays melee, one stationary and one ranged.
Also,if an opponent takes time to destroy my phantasms,i’ll have more time to spam clones with the scepter, apply condition, heal myself, and if needed to charge my mantras.

I know they are two flaws, but if you outplay your opponent they aren’t anymore i guess

and, generally each phantasm stays very, very far from each other, unless just casted.
Oh yeah, and killing phantasms with AoE abilities will also kill the clones, that will result in continue conditions…

Anyway, later i’ll test the build in sPvP,thank you for your thoughts,i’ll see how the build performs without restorative mantras too

Thank you for the feedback,a little of time ago i’ve realized a build for the mesmer (thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/What-do-you-think-about-this-bunker-build/first#post1082870)
It deals wonderfully against conditions, ranged attacks and heavy crowd control,it heals quite a lot and the damage is dealt using confusion.
almost 100% uptime regeneration,a nice amount of protection,iDefender for absorbing more damage and mass invisibility if you’re in trouble.
If the enemies ignore your clones, they will spam conditions to them,if they care about clones you’ll be able to recover most of the damage they’ll deal to you in the meantime.
I’ve only tried this in the mists against the profession bots, even without using any phantasm and elite my health couldn’t drop under 50%. It is designed for pvp.

The only thing that’s lacking is a reliable block, however with chaos storm you can get the aegis anyway, while also using your scepter #2 to block.

Should Mantras Be Changed to No Charge time?

in Mesmer

Posted by: ButterOfDeath.2873

ButterOfDeath.2873

IMO it’d be very helpful to change the cast time to 2 seconds: mantra of stability can be used to cast other mantras safely, while the trait that heals when you ready a mantra will be much, much more reliable and helpful.
