The Worst thing that has happened to GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Buttercup.5871

OP: let me explain what happened to cause the “inflammatory posts” you so loathe.

Example 1: Anet promises to do X, but never to do Y. Anet lays down this promise in a very important document. To stress its importance, it calls it a “manifesto”.

Anet does Y.

Players want security. They bought the game, invested time in the game, because they wanted X, not Y.

Anet says nothing.

Players, with nuance, say to Anet: hey, what’s happening? What are you doing to the game.

Anet says nothing.

Players become anxious. They want an answer. With more vigor, they want to know what’s coming. Speaking for myself, I convinced an entire guild to come to this game, because of promise X.

Anet says nothing.

Players become desperate. What do they have to say to get an answer? They now become rude, because they are angry. They feel they have been lied to, because the decision to do Y is not reversed. Even worse: Anet STILL says nothing.

This is just one scenario that is happening right now. Another example promise upon promise upon promise to the ranger community that things would be fixed for their class. Instead, they get severe nerfs to their class due to the introduction of “bug fixes” which introduce more bugs, lowering their overall damage by about 15 to 20 percent.

You have to understand that silence, as well as repeated broken promises, lead to anger. And rightfully so. I followed many posts on this forum from its very introduction until now. I read very quickly, so I’m able to read a LOT. I could see the shift. Heck, I could feel it! The players are, in my opinion, in no way to blame for the turn-around on this forum that you detected. It was a gradual process which, at many different points, could have easily been stopped by Anet had it decided to answer the core questions of its playerbase.

Ecto's moving up fast reason: farming

I too, noticed what the OP stated. I think it’s due to three things:

1. The magic find stat either no longer works, or its effectiveness has been significantly decreased.

2. An overzealous, very rigid anti-farming code has been implemented. The open world droprate has been temporarily decreased.

3. Fractal droprate has been temporarily increased to bait people into doing that dungeon. Once people have a small stack of those fractal insignias, the fractal dungeon droprate will be decreased and the droprate of other places is reinstated. (Although now, people have fractal insignias, and it would be such a waste not to do a few more runs in order to get fractal insignia reward X/Y/Z).

- new ability: “Melandru’s transformation” (elite, cd 240 secs)

Become your animal companion: The ranger becomes his animal companion, and receives the abilities of his companion. The animal companion becomes the ranger, and receives the abilities of the ranger.

If either the ranger or his companion dies, the bond is broken, and Melandru transfers the ranger’s spirit back into his former body. During this process, the ranger is unable to use any skills for 1 second (debuff).

There is a 20% chance that, instead, the ranger activates ability: “Melandru’s confusion” (elite, cd 240 secs):

Become a random class for 240 secs.

There is 5% chance that, instead, the ranger activates ability: “Melandru’s favored subjects” (elite, 240 secs):

Become a thief or a warrior for 240 secs.

Despite a busy family life with three kids, I attended the first event, (DC’d a few times, extremely laggy for all my guild members involved) and was able to complete phase II as well. Then, when I wanted to enter phase III, I couldn’t because an NPC (Myani) didn’t allow me to start phase III.

I really wanted to complete this event. But come on. An NPC doesn’t have a conversation bubble, so I can’t complete the event? What the heck is that? A let down, and a complete waste of my time on an event which, despite the lag and bugs I wanted to complete.

And now, in this thread, I read that I didn’t even have to complete the previous steps (is that right?) to participate in the final event, which I really wanted to.

Very, very disappointed.

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Buttercup.5871

First of all: I am not a fan of a gear-grind either. I had recently bought a second exotic set, this time with karma (240k karma), on the assumption that it would remain the best gear. I was wrong.

However.

I have played Guild Wars 1. Having played that game, I know that the Underworld was such a huge success, for years and years and years, because it was actually HARD. You could lose something when you entered (1 gold entry fee). You could be ruthlessly kicked out if the party died. But if you succeeded, it was rewarding. It really was. It had some cool, exclusive stuff.

I have played a few dungeons in Guild Wars 2, and all of them are simply not that difficult if the entire group is max geared. So in this respect, I applaud Anet for their efforts to introduce an “Underworld” kind of dungeon. Something worth exploring, something that is increasingly difficult, but which is ultimately rewarding.

The only major problems that I see with the new “ascended gear” are:

- the negative effects on crafting (however, if players will be allowed to upgrade existing exotic gear to ascended gear, and if they will be allowed to add an infusion slot to existing exotic gear – with mats from the new dungeon – this could remedy the inevitable crash of large parts of the market);
- the inevitable emptying of the majority of Tyria (which crashes the concept of DE’s), and, perhaps most importantly
- WvW. As Anet stated, PvP should be on equal terms. WvW, of course, is PvP, especially if you like skirmishing away from the “zerg”. When fighting 1 vs 1, you want to know that, at the very least, you’re on equal footing with your opponent, and that you didn’t win/lose because you had better/worse gear.

If the above concerns are/have been addressed, I am positive that the Lost Shores will be a huge success.

Drop rate of giant eyes

After opening hundreds of those bags from events in cursed shore (the grenth event is fairly generous with those bags, I believe), I only received only one giant eye. One! It’s still in my bank, in case I ever need to use one. I distinctly remember opening it and thinking “What. Is. This?”, at first thinking it was part of the halloween event.

If you really want to get one from a bag, good luck with that. I sincerely doubt it will happen anytime soon.

Will asc. gear reduce value + purpose of crafting?

in Crafting

Posted by: Buttercup.5871

Buttercup.5871

The question in this thread “will ascended gear reduce the value and purpose of crafting”? is based on my understanding of below unedited quotes from Ms. Linsey Murdock’s blog post:

“Players will be able to acquire Ascended Rings in the Fractals of the Mists dungeon”
“[…] Ascended items. This new rarity type falls between Exotic and Legendary on the spectrum of rarity and has slightly higher stats than Exotics.”
“For now, Infusions slots can only be found in gear of a new rarity type: Ascended.”

Question no. 1: what will happen to crafting, and crafting materials?

Very simple: what will happen to crafting? Will it be for skins only? People fear this development will crash the market, and rightfully so. Players will always go for the best item, in the fastest way possible. Any grade you can skip to get the highest grade item will be skipped. Items of “in-between” quality will plummet in value on the TP. Crafting materials needed to craft “in-between” gear will do the same.

Question no. 2: what will happen to (insanely expensive) mystic forge items?

Corollary to the first question: some mystic forge items are insanely expensive. They are listed on the offical wiki page: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mystic_Forge/Other_Items

These are not legendary items. Will these items simply be reduced to act as skins to ascended weapons? Please note that one of these items, as other posters have mentioned, is an insanely expensive pendant, which is not a skin but an item.

Possible solution?

- Please let the new dungeon drop an item which allows players to bump their EXISTING exotics to ascended stats.
- Please let the new dungeon drop an(other) item which allows players to create an infusion slot on EXISTING gear.

There. Still “progression”, but crafting market slightly saved. Somewhat.

My background: I came from two MMO’s where crafting was killed through bad decisions. Directly following those decisions, in both MMO’s, the community left very quickly, and by the thousands. If a dev/community rep reads this and is interested in the story, I am happy to elaborate on what happened in those MMO’s. For the purposes of this dicsussion, however, my background is irrelevant.

Compare the average price of a rare (gold) shortbow vs that of a rare (gold) knife. I was amazed that I could sell a simple rare (gold) knife on the TP for 49 silver. Versus the normal 14-16 silver of any given rare shortbow.

That’ll tell you plenty about what class is the FotM.

Mmm. Yes that cd on “protect me” is indeed too long. Maybe one could avoid it by using a sigil of blood on the offhand axe, so that whirling defence heals you enough to not use “protect me”. On the other hand, it’s not very reliable, because a mob manages to prevent you from using whirling defence, you’re very dead. AND the cd on whirling defence is 25 seconds. Mmm. Maybe not a good idea after all. I’ll try the GS instead. On that note, did you see they managed to produce Volcanus?

@ Robyn: your response is very mature, thank you for that. To show you that I haven’t completely ignored what you wrote, I will admit to taking your (PvE) advice and work on getting a nice greatsword with a restoration sigil. I was thinking though: wouldn’t that also work with an axe/axe combo? So basically, you pull 3 mobs with your axe/torch, kite/burn them down to half health, use the 5 torch skill (bonfire), quickly switch to dual axes, use “protect me”, and stand in the middle of the mobs using whirling defence (which then combos with bonfire)? I’m simply asking because I haven’t tried it out yet.

You lost me when you thanked Anet for introducing yet another bug (which, incidentally are two bugs, (i) auto-attack speed and (ii) QZ stopped working properly).

I know that’s probably my loss. That doesn’t mean, however, that I don’t try to find ways to make my ranger more effective. But I would not even dream of posting it on the forums at this time, as I find that any positivism on account of the introduction of serious bugs, followed by incorrect patch notes and a complete /ignore of the majority of the passionate ranger player base that takes the time of coming to the developer’s forum to write down its serious concerns, wholly out of place.

I admire your positivism. I don’t, however, share it at this time, despite my undying love for this game. I do not believe that change is achieved by silence and humility, or calling the community to “adapt” to yet another bug by which this profession has been plagued since launch.

So let's do it "in a constructive way".

Buttercup.5871

I find it appalling that the very company that ignores its customer base for days on end, accuses that playerbase of not being contructive.

How is ignoring hundreds of people that are passionate about the game, for days on end, constructive in any way?

Pot —-> Kettle.

Now, for the constructive feedback: please fix the bugs introduced with the 11 October patch. What more can you say about it? They introduced 2 bugs: (i) unintended shortbow lower attack speed and (ii) unintended QZ bug, which now does not function properly in combination with the Shortbow’s 1 skill.

As for the rest: please fix the other bugs. There’s a very very long buglist, and it’s stickied. Let’s see how the class looks when that list is fixed. THEN let’s talk about “changes”.

Gameplay footage request: Pet attacking moving targets

in Ranger

Posted by: Buttercup.5871

Buttercup.5871

I recognise this. Some mob vs pet fights really become laughable because of this.

For example, when you target a mob and hit F2, your pet will run to the mob to do his attack. But the mob also wants to do his attack. Both pet and mob need the other to stand still to do their attack. So they keep moving to eachother, back and forth, trying to do their skill, but neither can do it because both are moving. This will literally go on forever until you either aggro the mob yourself, or run away + swap pet.

This is why I switched to pets that either (i) can open with an F2 leap (e.g. lynx, snow leopard), or (ii) which are ranged (e.g. devourers). The other pets are simply not as reliable in combat. You lose so much dps by when a pet constantly tries to attack your mob, fails, and/or performs its F2 attack to noone in particular – all because the mob moved.

In fact, I think we should write a petition to all mobs in Tyria to please stop moving. I’m sure they’ll understand.

My goodness docmed you’re so full of yourself. You presume that you have more experience in PvP than those that post in this thread, or ANY other thread for that matter where you spam links to this thread.

You’re like one of those guys on the titanic that’s playing the music while the ship is sinking, shouting “WE’LL BE OK, REALLY, EVERYTHING WILL BE ALRIGHT! TRUST ME! I’M VERY EXPERIENCED!”

Docmed. Everything is NOT alright. When a class loses some major burst capability, which with your unparalleled experience in PvP will appreciate is very important for any class, people will be up in arms about it. And, yes, RIGHTFULLY so. Yes. Because the coding mistake and/or false patchnotes are not their mistake. They’re being lied to in the face, left and right, by the devs and forum reps. This is not the time to spread YOUR love for the ranger. It’s misplaced. I don’t care how many tournys you won with your ranger. Noone cares. And while I truly doubt your stories, and suspect you’re being carried by his teammates, that is utterly besides the point. In fact, your whole thread is, as I have stated earlier.

OP, yes I can read. I read how you think there are all these things that are great about the ranger, which is why all of us shouldn’t “QQ”. But you see, those things are beside the point. The “fix” that you see people “QQ” about was a mistake, either in SB coding or by patch notes, or both.

Whether or not there are OTHER things that ARE good – or not good – about the ranger is utterly beside the point. I’ll be the first to point out the beauty of this game, as I have in another thread. Heck, I’m actively persuading my entire guild from another game to come play this one. But this is neither the time nor the place for it.

Oh, and did you know that you insult people when you describe their rightful cries of anger “QQ”? In the very TITLE of your thread?

Less QQ - State of the Ranger

Buttercup.5871

OP, your premise is wrong.

You’re assuming it’s an intended nerf. But that’s not what A’NET told us. We’re told it’s a “fix” to a “graphic bug”. Now, any “fix” that lowers the DPS of the shortbow by 20-30 percent, and which bugs QZ so that it doesn’t double the attack speed anymore, is clearly wrong.

So stop your “QQ” and L2P attacks on people that are rightfully angry, and direct those at the people that messed up the patch notes and/or the shortbow coding instead.

Quickness doesn't affect Crossfire correctly?

With no response on QZ as of yet, the “other” threads are clearly not being read by the powers that be. It was blatantly ignored in the “7 % reply”.

This thread has the problem in the title. That’s why I posted here.

Buttercup.5871

Why is everyone bashing on shortbow users when in fact, you should be bashing on the developer that either (1) made a coding error or (2) stated a flat out lie in the patch notes, or (3) did a combination of both?

It’s supposed to be a “fix” to a “graphic bug”, not an intended nerf. Stop bashing on people that are angry about this, whether they are right (which I think they are) or wrong. If you want to use a different weapon because YOU believe it’s viable, by all means please do so. Just because other builds/weapons can ALSO be effective doesn’t mean the SB should be flushed down the toilet. If you want to promote versatility, defending an ERROR that nerfs the SB’s damage by 20-30 percent won’t help you, because it just means you that’s a(nother) weapon you WON’T be using anymore.

The devs should be bloody proud of their Norn work. And wow, their snowy mountain area, it’s simply mesmerizing. Levelling up through that area was a treat. I really enjoyed looking at the cutscenes from those waypoints, with the accompanying music from that area; it’s everything you hope for when doing PvE, and more. And I’m a PvP’er at heart, so it was a real surprise to see myself enjoy PvE that much.

A big giant kudos to the devs that worked on the Norn and their area. It is, in one word, awesome.

All ports are open, I triple checked with the Portforward utility. While these “fixes” worked for me for about a week, yesterday evening the problem came back with a vengeance. Best ranger pet?

Best tanking PvE pets for my playstyle: Arctodus and Murrelow. I prefer them over brown bears because their F2 skill significantly adds to my dps. The Murellow actually creates a combo field for everyone around. Particularly useful during all these dynamic events, when people are hacking at same elite your are.

It’s weird though, all bears should have the same survivability, yet to me, it feels like the Arctodus survives the longest each and every time?

For PvP I agree the Brown bear is more useful. Keep it close to you, let it absorb your conditions and damage, and use its F2 ability to shake off that cripple/immobilize.
