So much has been said already so I will keep it short.

- overall: I love the Revenant. Big props to the devs. I also loved gliding, that was a stroke of genius.
- major: Please move the mastery UI to the hero panel. If it won’t find integration there, please make finding the mastery UI more noticeable or intuitive to find. Also: opening the current mastery UI can interfere with gameplay.

- minor: mushroom mastery didn’t work. Tried really hard, reloading didn’t work in my case.
- minor: don’t know if intended but the unreachable skillpoint was reachable using hammer skill 3.
- minor: I was unable to ditch the blowtorch in the new event to extinguish the vines. Had to wait for the event to finish, or leave combat and WP.

There are times when I sit, head in hands, wondering what fiendish mind thought of the access route for a particular vista. I look around the lunch room and think “Which of YOU did that to me!”

I seriously, passionately hope that we have vistas in Guild Wars: Heart of Thorns, because they are the best way to see the beauty of the world, and the talent of our artists and level designers.

I just sort of wish they have an “E Z Mode” for people like me.

Spring Rolls stack up to 5.5mins of swiftness

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Buttercup.5871

Swiftness is easy to achieve with most classes.

That wasn’t the question though. The question was: at what price? One utility slot, two? .

One inventory slot, that’s all you need to keep one stack of “Pots of hylek poison” for on-demand swiftness

You forgot to mention the “price” of pots of hylek poinon. You can’t actually be in combat using those pots. And while holding the pot (and being unable to fight), you get 10 seconds of swiftness on a 15 second cooldown.

This all feels like the “I have the right to let the event succeed!” debate all over again, with some slight differences here and there. Yes, the OP can start the event but in doing so, with or without a map warning, will kitten over the majority of the map. He knows it, and his post is a testament to that effect. The way I see it, both he as well as those that are rude to him are in the wrong.

Anet stated openly that failing an event is an allowed outcome; as long as it is reached together it’s a legitimate goal. Flaming those that want to complete the event is, however, not tolerated. It seems to me that in this case though, the goal is not a common goal, just OP and his guildies without the rest of the map. Map chat is a mere gesture of you know from experience it doesn’t reach the majority of players in time.

So OP, you’re allowed. But is it really worth it? You seem to have enough common sense in you to know that the answer is no.

Predetermined and random are not mutually exclusive. If a predetermined result is determined randomly, and one does not know the randomly generated predetermined result, what is the difference?

Without delving too far into the philosophy of random variables, the crux of predetermination is whether or not an outcome is knowable before the observation. If you shuffle a deck of cards and place it face down on the table, the order is determined – they have a physical order on the table – but barring marked cards or improper shuffling the identity of each card is unknown until it is observed (at which point it’s merely data).

So predetermination isn’t so much about whether or not there’s an immutable order, but whether or not that order is knowable without observation.

So if I’m putting that deck of cards to you every day at predetermined timed intervals and in the same order, you think a year later it’s still a mystery when the queen of spades is going to surface?

Predetermined and random are not mutually exclusive. If a predetermined result is determined randomly, and one does not know the randomly generated predetermined result, what is the difference?

The difference is when you find out at which moment the predetermined set of outcomes resets – let’s assume at the usual reset time – and around which time after that reset your lucky RNG number should pop up in the predetermined sequence. Some people who forged an incredible amount of precursors will always do so at a certain time of the day. They do that for a reason.

Anet pRNG is suspect at best. I base this on the fact that I keep getting the exact same items over and over again. There are around 10 named exo I get, never any others, and I constantly get them. Then there are multiple instances where WvW rank up chests give me the exact same 2 green items (level, prefix and suffix). Once I thought it was a fluke, but when it keeps happening. Same with fractal weapons, I keep getting bows, others keep getting daggers.
Then there is fact that Anet hides ALL their drop rates. Why is this important, because it keep people doubts if they suspect that pRNG is rigged. Also to keep people playing and wasting their time and spending gems on RNG boxes. I wonder how many rng key would sell if people knew the drop rates right in front of them.

What he means with pRNG is pseudo RNG. I posted about this earlier in this topic.

When people say “RNG is RNG” they’re wrong. True RNG and pseudo RNG may look the same, but when push comes to shove they’re really not.

Read this. I’ll take 2 quotes to get yor attention:

“These characteristics make TRNGs suitable for roughly the set of applications that PRNGs are unsuitable for, such as data encryption, games and gambling. "

“Because PRNGs generate random numbers by using mathematical formulae or precalculated lists, using one corresponds to someone rolling a die many times and writing down the results. Whenever you ask for a die roll, you get the next on the list. Effectively, the numbers appear random, but they are really predetermined.”

I recommend that OP take a class in statistics and read about gambling and chance before getting much older. It will be a supreme help to him to learn about these things.

You’re wrong. Again, it’s technically possible to never get a pre from the mystic forge, but highly unlikely after 1100 attempts.
My beef is: Why me? Why is my account condemned?

Not just you mate. Try tossing in 2k rares and exotic greatswords and getting nothing.

It’s been explained to me that this is not solely in the realm of statistics though; it’s also tied to an engine that is unable to run “true” RNG. It’s quite difficult to learn a machine how to create true chaos, you need a lot of horsepower for that. So we’ve got a “simulated” or pseudo RNG, still very complex, which factors in certain unique properties affecting the outcome of RNG rolls. Such as, for example, the time of your forge attempt.

"No-grind philosophy"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Buttercup.5871

Buttercup.5871

Their “no-grind philosophy” has been extremely grindy.

This is the most grindy game I have ever played. I mean seriously WoW is a mear fraction of the grind and with their new expansion that is hardly any grind. When I’m away at work I can even have the garrison follower out getting me loot and stuff.

Laughing at those that say mandatory grind. You have two type the optimal people who want to have best in slot and then you have everyone else who is sub optimal. Yes the sub optimal is non mandatory grind because they choose to not be the best they can be. For those that want the best the grind is ridiculous and extremely unrewarding.. I can look back at WoW legendaries and remember the efforts that were put in to get them by the guilds and players. With this game it’s grinding out RNG or pay to win purchases with RL money. Funny for a free to play game. Ohh well we’ll see if they ever bother to fix it. Will have to fix it for free though before wasting money on an expansion to fix what should have been there when payed for in the first place.

Mind you, I don’t play WoW, but I seriously doubt it has account bound BiS armor and weapons. Or complete account bound customization, such as all skins and dyes. Or account bound acquisition of skills and traits; learn it on a class once and it’s unlocked forever if you decide to roll same class on a different race. The new mastery system is account wide as well. So in that sense, GW2 seriously prevents grind. Yes, it takes a while to get certain very desirable items once, but when you do, every character on your account can benefit from them.

I think both are true. While people are indeed in their own world, they once knew talking improves your chance of winning. However, after listening to others and losing, some then did a 180 and decided never to listen to others again. Just saying nothing is also a lot easier, cause you don’t risk being wrong. Other than that it’s rude, it’s really quite gutless and lazy to say nothing.

Same way you get silver doubloons: forging gemstones, looting chests, or from loot bags. Although easier than silver doubloons, they’re not that easy to obtain.

Other than that, you always need at least 3 doubloons to craft your account bound oils, sharpening stones or crystals (output: 5 oils/sharpening stones/crystals).

But I think the real question will be what charged ambrite will do. You can only charge one crystal a day (required component of charged ambrite), which gives you a buff that lasts 30 minutes.

Personally speaking I crafted a large number of oils last night for several of my characters as I think that buff is simply fantastic.

can anyone explain to me what this common expression “hurting the economy” means? What would be the problem if certain items get more expensive/less expensive than they are today?

It is term frequently (ab)used by people to describe an event that will hurt their pocket. Instead of referring to their pocket though, they’ll call it “the playerbase’s pocket”. Or the pocket of Joe Schmoe, the hard working dungeoneer that under different circumstances could just as well have been you.

In reality, of course, an economy cannot hurt, only players can.

Furthermore, any event that is truly bad for all players can be countered or undone by Anet through an infinite amount of measures, including turning the knobs on droprate ratios.

TLDR: the expression is meaningless and can mean just about anything you want.

Edit: I should add that the term is sometimes used innociously, i.e. without knowledge that it means nothing, simply repeating it as a term of art because others have said it as well and therefore it must be true.

I just think that, no matter what system winds up being implemented (if any at all), you have to put yourself into the shoes of the single unluckiest player in the world and see how the system will treat them individually.

Note: not “the least skilled player” – the unluckiest in a strict luck RNG sense (not talking Magic Find either). As players have identified here, you can be a very skilled player but have no luck and still not be well off because of bad luck alone Luck is the problem variable.

If that single solitary unluckiest player is capable of having a bad time then your system is capable of producing a low-side outlier who is not having fun. No matter how unlikely or improbable, with this many players there are bound to be some.

On the macro level it’s all fine and working as intended. And I understand not everyone can win the lottery. But why does it have to be a lottery? Why can’t skill overcome luck? Why can’t perseverance and sticking to it overcome luck? Why do the odds on the ten-thousandth try have to be the same terrible odds as the first try?

Yes there’s a digital economy to protect and no one is saying not to consider that. But there are real low-end outliers and I’d bet only a sliver of them are posting here. And they have been playing for a long time and they don’t seem to be having as good of a time as they could be.

Make a system that throws the occasional bone to the unluckiest out there.

You’ve put this so well.

Sigh.

This post, this is me. You see, after six hundred and nineteen posts, there should really be enough to cut the knot and act. More words… No. Just close this thread and tell us “hey guys, we know we can’t please everyone, but this is what we’re going to do about it”. And then do it.

Though I agree(At least i feel they’re right) with your ideas, you’ve made 2 mistakes i feel I should correct:
30% Magic Find is a permanent bonus. It is not reliant on resurrecting people – only the stat bonuses are.
Moreover, Silverwastes chests are indeed affected by the magic find – though not significantly, since you’re guaranteed to get 1 champion bag out of them in any case.

That’s correct, I tested this.

Pumpkin oils, sharpening skulls and crystallized nougat give a 30% magic find, whether you resurrect or not. And because it counts as a “nourishment” (similar to sharpening stones, maintenance oils, and tuning crystals), you can complement it by another 30% from food buffs raising your magic find by a whopping 60%.

The cheapest option is if you use these with spicy pumpkin cookie (which gives 30% MF, extra condition damage, 15% extra XP and lasts for 45 minutes). It currently sells for only 1 silver per cookie I think.

Well played OP, you made be buy 4 twisters to test it out…Only to have a lvl 79 carrion amulet worth 50silver in return.

I’ll just quote myself here:

The point of this thread was not whether you could make a profit anymore forging jars. The point of this thread is the utter destruction of the jewelry market following the introduction of ONE trinket, twister in a jar

Other than that, I didn’t have jars when writing the post, or even after that. Now, in response to below:

Also .. why has just the price of amulets gone down but not earrings, since the twister
seems to be an earring (accessory) ?

People can use two accessories but only one amulet. If the forge kicks them both out in equal numbers the amulet will crash first.

Also, there aren’t any generic exotic trinkets (only the craftable ones) from the forge, so that market is a lot more constrained, period.

Ascended rings and amulets are far easier to acquire than ascended earrings/accessories (especially if you use WvW badges to reduce the laurel cost of amulets). Hence the increased demand for exotic earrings/accessories. Not all people do guild content, and paying 40 laurels times 2, times every alt you have – is neigh impossible.
