We tested 4 jars last night few times and we did not get a better profit. Most of the items are below 80 and cheap as before so I don’t see what’s the fuss all about.
The point of this thread was not whether you could make a profit anymore forging jars. The point of this thread is the utter destruction of the jewelry market following the introduction of ONE trinket, twister in a jar:

This is just amulets. The graphs on crafted rings and earrings and jewels look exactly the same. The graphs on dropped exotic trinkets now look exactly the same, too.
One item literally destroyed them all.
The possible outputs will be limited to jewelry that can be dropped not crafted.
This is entirely incorrect. Go and forge them, you’ll see.
Well, it can’t be salvaged, but apparently it can be Forged. No idea what the output is though.
Output: a random exotic trinket.
This item is singlehandedly mashing nearly every item in the jewelry business to a pulp. Just so you know and all. Well you probably know, but anyway. The droprate needs to go wayyyyy down. Even after the imminent Silverwastes chest farm nerf this should probably still happen.
What mystic said. Furthermore, if you want to craft end game (“ascended”) armor and weapons in this game you’ll need items of nearly all levels. Hence the relatively stable and decent prices on them. Although the lowest tier is not used to craft them (jute, copper), there are mystic forge recipes through which you can bump those into items of the next tier, like jute—->wool (which is used for ascensed crafting). That’s why even the lowest tier items sell relatively well.
I’ll take your word for it. And buy 6 for 100 gold. I’m not sure how many people stock up on this though. It used to cost 3 gold? each?
Hahaha. Hahahahahaha! Haha. Oh this is funny.
Ok. Ok. Phew. Ok.
So, at the crafting cost of 30 silver each, selling maizebalm will always come at a loss, right? But, hahahaha, ok ok… Sorry. But you know what the best part is? You can only craft 1 maize balm per day per account! Hahahahaha! You’d never get the 100g back before the next Halloween!
Trick or treat!
We are talking about the recipes for the maize balm, not the maize balm itself.
I already made over 400g profit on the recipes during the first buy out of supply.Joke is on you.
Why would it? I didn’t buy an item you inflated for an hour through your post – from 5 to 458 gold to 7 gold. I was talking about the buyers of a recipe that will never make a profit. And yes, of course you made a profit, you’re the one who caused this bubble in the first place!

I’d like that option tyvm. In fact I was hoping that option would one day come along and, specifically for that reason, bought it.
Actually it’s quite simple. Since Sonder still sells 20 slot bags for 3 candy corn cobs (no crafting involved!), and you can still convert candy corn to cobs, the base price of candy corn should start to hover around 38 copper at a bare minimum. This, in turn, means that the price of a trick or treat bag must, at a minimum, be more than 6 silver due to the remaining guaranteed content of those bags.
Once the masses figure out the Sonder the Seller story, the price of candy corn will shoot up. Add the massive advantage (buffs) offered by the gobbler and candy corn should be at 40 to 50 copper within two months. (Edit: I forgot to add the candy corn ice cream that – looking at the Halloween achievements – we’ll undoubtedly need for the upcoming wintersday achievements).

300$ is peanuts compared to what I’ve spent in the gemstore over the last 2 years.
In Defence of the OP: it’s a big psychological hurdle to buy gems with the purpose of buying gold directly. Many prefer to spend it on RNG items to justify their spenditure whereas ultimately, buying gold directly with gems would have been the more logical choice.
Same here.
Nice huh. There’s a buff but we can’t PvP. In fact I can’t do anything now. This bug effectively locks you out of your account.
Same. Doesn’t matter what character i choose, all characters are ported into the foefire, all crash.
Yes. And I opened 10k bags and did not get it. It makes no difference if one guy gets it on his first bag or his 259th bag. Most don’t. At all.
Yes. The chance of getting the mini Gwynefyrdd is close to zero. It’s nuts. You have to go so many numbers behind the decimal to describe the odds there’s simply no point to even try.
About the mini:
There’s another thread where people had to open approx. 86k bags to get the mini. Others had opened over 1 million bags among 6 people, and only one of them got the mini.
In other words: don’t count on getting the mini.
Probably gonna give them away to friends.
Ok, that is an impressive amount of stuff; I take my hat off to you sir. Too bad you’re leaving though, I prefer vets sticking around.
I won’t endulge in complaining. I don’t like it. Instead I will give you a tip I discovered which made my life 10x easier on this issue (proud owner of several legendaries, discovered every map solo): if you have an iPhone, get this app called “War Reports for GW2”. You won’t actually have to enter WvW, or even turn on your computer, to see if the POI you need is under your realm’s control. If it is, hop in and go get it. I think the app even has an alert function.
You’re welcome!
I like this outfit. I like it a lot. Despite the hooves, which are cool but probably become quirky in the long run.
Sorry, I just don’t believe it’s random. And if it is random, it’s broken. I don’t see how one person can “randomly” get 10 precursors, while I get 1, and I play WAY more than they do. And even if you do believe this is truly random, do you understand why this might be frustrating to the players that don’t get precursor drops?
Yeah, that’s the important bit. We can believe it’s random, or not, and argue about the laws of averages all we want. The problem is it doesn’t FEEL good to be on the receiving end of a bad luck streak. ANet should want their players to feel good, and while it might be nice to have a lucky player feel super good about getting ten precursors, it feels bad to not get any, and it would be in the best interests of keeping everyone happy if they cheated with the intention of having everyone “win” over a reasonable period of time, rather than to let random chance create long-term “losers.” “Hot Streaks” can be cooled down a bit, they’ll never notice, and “cold streaks” could use a little extra heat, which they’ll definitely notice, all to the better.
Even if the distribution of Precursors does fall into statistical averages, they shouldn’t.
I fully agree. But can we get back to the first part of his quote? Did someone actually get 10 precursors? I really hope that’s a figure of speech.

This is idea is worth a lot of money. I smell a new cash-cow.
Reminds me of the kitten desert outfits from Raiders of the Lost Arc.
I had the association with that film too when seeing the female human version. Problem is, that’s really not a good association. Can’t get any worse, in fact.
Cause the only army featuring in that film is that of Germany during 1940-1945.
And now I understand why your post probably says “kitten”. The word describing the WWII German ideology is on a filter.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
This seems like blatant censorship. I mean, I can see how they removed the code that rendered your character completely naked, but this is ridiculous. And dull. Really dull. Please let this be a bug. Please don’t numb down the most basic movements of our characters.
They’re very nice indeed, will absolutely get two of them. I do agree that some are a bit too artistic, but overall this set is a great addition.
Today, I just had 2 dc’s in one match. I don’t even recall ever having had a single dc in tpvp in the last 2 years. It’s become unplayable. And yea, there’s insane lag, too.
it’s supposed to be an exclusive or sacred item. now it seems like anyone could have it. this is dumb as kitten anet
Wait what? The buy price is at 2600g currently, and you say anyone could have it?
You know most people don’t own a legendary, right, but want to? And that for 2600g you can craft almost any legendary you want?
No item should be “sacred” in any event, that would be really messed up. Some things can come close to that, if they are items that can only be obtained through the display of extraordinary skill (e.g. winning a PvP world tournament). But certainly not some random drop from a black lion chest, that’s simply bunkers.
Which I agree with but Anet shouldn’t have said that it was only going to be available for 2 weeks and then just leave it on the loot tables when those 2 weeks expired.
I wholeheartedly agree that Anet should not have done it in this manner. I believe they should have simply announced it was back in the loot table to stay. And I’m very glad they did just that, in the end. Were they allowed re-introduce it in this manner? Well, it’s certainly not pretty but according to the contract we all signed, they most certainly can. But let’s not forget the end result here. It’s a really nice addition to the chest’s loot table, and a fun item that players truly appreciate.
I was never one of the lucky ones to receive one (I tried really hard though!) but I’m glad for those that did and still do.

You cannot make any accurate comparisons by going off bolt prices. There’s often a lag between bolt prices and scraps. Scraps sell much quicker than bolts. Most people would sell the scraps rather than refine them first and then sell.
This dodges the OP’s issue though. The real question is why scraps are more expensive, too. Or, specifically, why the low level salvage materials producing those scraps are sold less.
Assuming you have unused/leftover BL kits:
1) Check our TP prices of armor and weapons with good runes/sigils on them.
2) Check out said rune/sigil prices.
3) Place buy orders on items for which the difference between 1) and 2) is considerable.
4) Salvage.
5) Profit.
(6. Craft high level items with left-over dark matter.)
(7. Even more profit.)
I have a few theories. One day, about a week ago, I saw several commonly traded items plummet in demand by tens of thousands of pieces. Not a curbed line, no, bam all in one go. Obviously they were fake 1 copper bids that could be used to feign demand or curb it at will. So I was thinking, the new TP isn’t exactly easy to handle when dealing with large buy orders like that. And I don’t think you can place a buy offer for 1500 items anymore by clicking “place buy order” several times really fast (haven’t tried either, I may be wrong). So it’s possible some big traders gave up on that tactic. Another possibility is that they were banned, or the new TP was set to detect them with new built-in detection tooks (one can hope, right?). In any event, there may be other factors that previously influenced demand falsely, but they no longer do.
Regarding supply: could it be that there was another botwave ban that led to decreased (read: actual) supply? Or could it be the change of the personal story system, which some redditors have said was abused by people to farm low level materials excessively?
The sole purpose of removing low level cheap cooking materials and recipes is to make it harder and more expensive for people to farm keys. The ‘new’ way to do that, since the level cap for the personal story was raised, is to level your character through cooking and then do the personal story – which gives a black lion key at one point. I think the current record in this new way is 16 minutes to get one key.
The price of making ascended set increased by approximately 100g as a result of the silk price increase. It was already expensive to craft a cloth set, but now it’s simply insane. About 600g I think?
I don’t think this was a mistake but intended. It’s their way of evening out the gap between TP traders and those who buy a few keys once in a while. Second reason is they want people to sink all their keys into chaos skins to clean the previous key runners from their tickets. That will take a while, probably only after about two new weapon sets have been released. Third reason is people for some reason want to complete the chaos skin collection for 7 tickets which is insanely expensive, they just don’t realize it yet. And last but not least, the chaos weapon set is a huge gold sink any way you look at it.
I expect prices to tank hard after the ticket price has been adjusted.
Put out buy orders on fine/masterwork dyes and start forging! Unlock a few colors on the way; as someone who has all colours unlocked (including gemstore dyes) I can honestly say I hardly ever use abyss. True story.
Nothing special, mostly those exotics that are in the exotic collection category, so the most expensive one is around 200g (I think karka weapons and razah’s nightmare were the most expensive ones when I picked mine – and sold it during the hype).
Gratz dude, your open gratitude on this forum shows you fully deserved this gift.
I thank the gifter as well, it’s good to know there are still people out that can slow down from the hype, listen, and make someone really happy when they have the ability to do so.
Salvaging for silk is even cheaper than buying scraps. A bit more work though, but not so much.
Edit: looking at the linen supply right now, back to normal. It’s probably quite hard to even dent that market in the long run.
(edited by Buttercup.5871)
I think people will still prefer to focus on their legendaries. The only price I see going up is orichalcum. Any further speculation is entirely dependent on Anets choice for the next LS locations and rewards.
I agree with the OP’s conclusion though, the prices of BL skins are too low due to key farming. They should correlate to the gem—>gold price which obviously they do not.
No more easy mode manipulation of base material prices! I know I did this from time to time when I needed huge amounts of wood or cooking materials (e.g. the F&F recipes require a ton of materials).
Being able to see the sell listings may become a game changer for the prices of many materials. This is good news.
The forge doesn’t distinguish in output between sets 1, 2 and 3. In other words, forging 4 minis from set 3 may result, for example, in a jackalope (set 1) or an enraged twisted nightmare (set 2). Or simply a random rare mini from set 1, 2 or 3.
Maybe that helps alleviate some of your concerns.
What do you think about the mini market in terms of supply and volatility ?
It’s not one of my favorite markets.
Why not?
I can’t remember exactly what caused it, but 2 years ago black lion chests rose up to like 1s each in price because of speculators. When they realized that you still needed keys to open them, and that the chests themselves are useless, the price started dropping to their original 3c.
My guess is on speculators. But black lion keys will always be useless without keys. People are too easily influenced by hype.
I think you’re referring to the effects of that_shaman’s data-mining on reddit last year:
“Rusty Black Lion Chest
109854_0768 Your unlock is being processed… Please wait.
109854_0769 Rusty Black Lion Chest
109854_0771 This chest has seen better days… It needs some work before you can even attempt to unlock it.
109854_0786 It appears you have some jammed chests. I can fix that for you.”
In the pickup queue of an account made only for that purpose.
Apparently, someone knows something we don’t. Because it’s entirely illogical with the current info available to all: namely, that keys will become scarcer, hence chests should start flooding the market. I bet it has to do this move is related to info from China.
I’d be happy to bet that the price will not budge.
Maybe by a silver due to this thread. And then it will crash into oblivion again as no one will buy 5.000 runes. So weird?
“But I don’t want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
“Oh, you can’t help that,” said the Cat: “we’re all mad here. I’m mad. You’re mad.”
“How do you know I’m mad?” said Alice.
“You must be,” said the Cat, "or you wouldn’t have come here.”
Awesome, so nice. Here’s another:
The Mad Hatter: “Have I gone mad?”
[Alice checks Hatter’s temperature]
Alice: “I’m afraid so. You’re entirely bonkers. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
You will only really see the effects about three BL weapon sets from the current one. The excess keys from key farms need to be dumped completely before we can start with a clean slate.
Anet is not your parents. Throwing a tantrum until they give in just to shut you up is not going to work.
You know where the matter stands – they are still working on it. It will be ready when it’s ready, not when you want it to be ready.
I don’t like these semantics. Customers are right in saying “promise = promise, so what’s going on?” That is nowhere near throwing a tantrum. Nine months have passed since the original “worst case scenario” deadline elapsed. And everyone is still kept in the dark.
Either give a deadline and keep people informed, or give nothing at all. But not both; you can’t start with one and end with the other. People “work” on a legendary for months, they want to know what’s going on.
When you tell your customer product X will be ready by Y date, you need to keep to that date or provide a new deadline. And stick to it, while keeping your customer in the loop of progress made.
There have been a number of announcements made about precursors, the latest happening before the April patch. You have as much information as the devs are permitted to give you.
The decision to hold back discussions of long-term plans came from above the devs, and happened largely due to just this kind of reaction from players. Anet has many dedicated professionals and I’m sure they would love to talk about their work and are just as disappointed (or more so) as players when something they’ve worked on for months gets cancelled or taken back to step one.
But that is how this kind of business works, they are not developing entirely new, stand-alone products, every piece of the game has to work with every other piece and sometimes that’s just not possible. The devs are well aware of players’ dissatisfaction with these policies, and the progress or lack thereof made in various areas. Continuing to complain when you know that they are not allowed to talk about these things just contributes to the “noise” of the forums and makes it less likely that other matters will receive the attention they deserve.
I know Tolunart but there comes a point where that’s not good enough anymore. I’d say we are well beyond that point after waiting more than 1,5 years and still knowing absolutely nothing on where matters stand now.
“Oh NO my inventory is OVERFLOWING with RARE level 73-80 armor*!!!
When does that ever happen? Never, right? So where’s the convenience in this, for which you pay through your nose and pay nearly double each item you salvage an item with it?
* note that rare weapons should not be salvaged, you will often get far more selling them directly on the TP.
