I’m also loving the sound design of this game. I started two topics about things I like in this game but nobody seems to pay much attention to threads that are not about grind, endgame, (insert your whine here).
The reason why you have better FPS when looking directly at the ground is because there’s nothing on screen to render, it will be the same if you face a wall.
It has nothing to do with DoF.
I think some positive feedback is needed in this forum so here are my 2 cents.
The sound: I think the sound design of GW2 is one of the best I’ve seen in any game in the history of anything. The cities feel alive with all the NPC chit-chat, kids running around, yelling, laughter, gossip, etc. Sometimes I’ll just stop and listen to NPC’s conversations. In the world map it’s not different. You hear mosquito buzzing, crickets, running water, the wind, it’s amazing.
Also the soundtrack is spot on. It gives the right feeling of epicness to the world of Tyria.
The Dynamic Events: I was walking around Claypool (I think that’s the name of the village) the other day and out of nowhere a farmer came running towards me asking for help because his farm was taken by bandits. I run to his farm and there they were, already being killed by other players. I joined the fight and we sent them running away. Then I see the same farmer coming down the road with his bulls and cows to retake his farm.
The beauty of this is that the bandits were only able to take the farm because there was no one around to defend it in the first place, things are happening everywhere no matter if you’re there or not. This is the real notion of persistent world.
The Crafting System: I love how you can combine different materials intuitively to find new recipes. Also the way you can transfer collectibles from your inventory to the bank without having to constantly travel to big cities only to free space on your bag is amazing because it doesn’t break the pace of the game.
I’m still level 14 and I haven’t even left Queensdale yet. I haven’t been in any dungeons, haven’t killed any dragons, haven’t tried WvW or SPVP, but if those are anything as good as what I’ve seen so far then I know I’ve put my money on the right place.
I wouldn’t upgrade just now. If you look at the Tech Support forums there are dozens, if not hundreds, of topics like this about people with all kinds of system specs having completely different results. So you can upgrade your system and end up with worst performance.
Some Anet staff said they are already looking into the performance issue and untill they say they’re not doing any further optimization I’m not buying any upgrade.
Instead of just saying “awefull” over and over why don’t you just give some examples of what’s so unbalanced
i actually did tell what was the issue if you read it. go read it again then -_-
stating every setup, wvw issue, dungeon issue, class balance issue etc. would take hours of my time writting example after example of what needs to be looked at.the fact there is so rediculessly many things that needs a serious look at balance wise is why i state that its in an awefull state..
the balance team of anet needs a kick and then hire some decent people to do this.
Nah you just whined. If you actually had given some examples of classes and skills that you feel are unbalanced then maybe ppl would take your post more seriously.
Instead of just saying “awefull” over and over why don’t you just give some examples of what’s so unbalanced
That’s strange cuz I feel I’m leveling very smoothly so far. I’m level 12 and I haven’t uncovered the whole Queensdale map yet.
I craft very often and go to every point of interest, vista and waypoint I can. Maybe that’s the difference?
I’m creating this topic to congratulate the sound designers on the job they’ve done, specialy in crowded cities.
It’s amazing the amount of different NPC chit-chat we hear while walking around big cities. It really brings the place to life and makes the world of Tyria feel like a more believable place.
NPC1 – Do you think it is safe to open a shooting range so close to a tavern?
NPC2 – We haven’t had any incident for the last couple of weeks.
That’s what I’m talking about. And it’s all beatifully voiced over by very talented actors.
Great job folks.
Your CPU and RAM are serious bottlenecks on your system. Your VGA is good tho.
Try adding another 1GB of RAM if you want to stay 32bits and upgrading your CPU to an i5. Just keep in mind that upgrading the CPU will probably require you to change your motherboard aswell.
I have a Q6600 running at the stock speed of 2.4 GHz with a GTX460 1GB.
During PVE I usually have 30-40 FPS. In larger events with 10-15 players it drops to low twenties. In very deserted areas and instanced personal story it’s always above 40.
I never touched PVP so I can’t tell how it is.
I don’t get it. Sometimes I’m in Divinity’s Reach and it’s sunny, then I head outside to Queensdale and the night falls in the blink of an eye.
Is it random?
You need to post your specs for us to give you give any feedback
I’m not sure if this is a bug or intended but I usually hear a strange and loud noise when walking near the swamp area in Queensdale. It’s like a huge airplane falling from the sky, like a loud turbine sound.
It’s pretty creepy.
I think it’s because the Vistas are just what you said, cutscenes. They don’t require much in the way of power from the GPU to play.
Someone on reddit posted an interesting “workaround” for low FPS, maybe it will work for some of you;
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/zvv45/if_youre_struggling_with_fpsperformance_issues/
Make a shortcut to GW2.exe on your desktop if there isn’t already one. In the “Target” field in the “Shortcut” tab, add “-dx9single -nomusic -nosound” (without the quotation marks of course) after the quotations of GW2.exe. ;
Wouldn’t that remove sound and music from the game? I don’t think playing the game with no sound is a viable solution.
Peformance results are all over the place at the moment, we see high end machines with low fps and the other way around.
What I’ve noticed is that Nvidia 6 series VGAs are the ones getting worst performance. Also this game is heavily CPU dependant and yours is very good.
Having said that if I had to guess I’d say your machine will handle it just fine.
@Amos – I’m an engineer aswell, we don’t have as many combo skills as the elementalist but I’ve already found some interesting ones.
@jayderyu – I think combo is short for combination and considering you have to combine at least two skills… well, you get what I mean.
Hi,
The good news is your CPU overclocks well and easily – the bad news is an overclock isn’t going to buy you another 10fps – maybe 5 if your lucky.
My system is very similar to yours, but with quite a heavy overclock
Q6600 @ 3.2Ghz
4GB DDR2 RAM @ 850MHz
GTX560 1GB (mild factory overclock)I’m typically seeing 25-35fps in crowded places (PvE only – WvW is a disaster) and 45-55 in many places out in the world.
However, i’ve also spent a fair bit of time playing with a hardware monitor running, and typically when my FPS is low, my hardware usage is also low (4 cores at 80, 50, 50, 40 % and GPU at 30-50%)
Actually I would beg to differ. I had decent FPS in towns but I knew I could do better. My rig is similar to both of you (i5 760 and GTX 460). I found a place that gave me 48 fps if I turned my camera a certain angle (I was looking for a place where my FPS wouldn’t cap at 60 as I had VSYNC on). I turned VSync off, had 48 fps. Restarted my pc, applied a overclocking profile I set up (from 2.8GHz to 3.8GHz), went back into the game and shifted my camera the same angle and I had MORE than 70 FPS. If you don’t believe me, next time you go into WvW, take a look at your cpu load of all 4 cores from Task Manager :P
Hmmm… this is very interesting. I think results may vary from system to sytem. I’ll have to give it a shot and see how it goes for me then.
Hi Amos, I’m reading the wiki this moment, thx for the tip.
Hi Andicus, we really have very similar fps. If it’s gonna give me only 5 fps than I think it’s not worth the risk.
Thx for the reply.
It looks like GW2 doesn’t go well with Nvidia 6xx video cards. It’s not official, but a pattern we see in this forum.
Hi there, new player here heavily confused about the combo system.
How do they work? What is a combo finisher? Do they deal extra damage?
Any info will be most appreciated.
Thx in advance.
Hey guys, first off I’ll post my system specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bits SP1
Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4 GHz
3 GB RAM
GTX460 1GB
Currently I’m running the game at 20-30 fps in crowded areas like cities and 40-50 fps in places with less activity like small groups and events.
I’m ok with these numbers , buuuuut I wouldn’t mind if I could get another 10-15 fps if OCing my CPU would get me that.
I have zero experience in OCing but I’m sure there are dozens of online guides so I think I can handle it. Also if I burn my CPU that’s the reason I was looking for to upgrade it anyways
I’ve started playing yesterday and here’s my experience so far.
System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits SP1
Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz
Geforce GTX460 1GB
3 GB RAM
I unparked the cores, I run Game Booster and disabled Avast before entering the game. Evey setting is as the system suggested. Except for reflections that I moved from “none” to “terrain and sky” because the game looks so much better this way at the cost of only 2-4 fps.
I’ve only visited Shaemor and Divinity’s Reach so far and my FPS varies from 20-50, most of the time it’s 30-ish tho.
I don’t think it’s a bad frame rate considering the specs I have, even tho I can play other recent games (Skyrim, Dead Island, Alan Wake, Borderlands) with everything maxed out and constant 60 fps.
It’s far better than what I got back in the BWEs but I think there’s still room for improvement. Also I haven’t touched WvW yet.
