I’d like to see a Cantha based expansion of some sort adding Eastern themed weapons and armor, but no pandas, definitely no pandas. More in line with the Nightfall expansion of Guild Wars 1.
I’ve got an 80 of Thief and Warrior, as I’ve only just found out today, you can actually dodge roll while using the stolen Whirling Axe, which, imo needs an immediate fix to stop the attack altogether just like it does with Dagger Storm, the thief’s other whirly doom attack. The damage on Whirling Axe is in line with where it needs to be, but the ability to dodge roll and keep the attack going needs to go, and this is coming from me being main thief.
Ok, guess you CAN roll while using stolen whirling axe. Then yes, I do 100% agree that that needs nerfed/fixed to where if you dodge roll, it stops. That’s how it works with Dagger Storm, and that’s how it should work with Whirling Axe when stolen. Don’t take from this that I’m trying to keep thieves from getting nerfed, because I’m not. And as for going into melee on dagger storm, I still think it’s your most valid thing to do, unless you started off already out of it’s massive range. A simple charge in and drop your cooldowns or whatever you have to do to put em down fast, or if you are out of range, then fine, keep away from them.
I guess I should have mentioned this is more of a WvW build I’m looking for, as I don’t really do much in the way of sPvP. Thanks for the good base Defektive, you think it’d do well in WvW? I’m still just fresh 80 on my warrior and don’t have a lot of gear for her atm, so any suggestions on quickly acquired gear to fit the stats of the build you linked would be awesome also.
The rifle is mostly there for seiges and runners while out in WvW since it stacks bleeds also and has decent burst.
Anyone have a good sword and shield, with rifle swap condition damage build? Looking for something resilient but still able to put out a good amount of damage through the bleeds of sword and rifle. Been playing around with the Yojack build, but just looking to try something new out. Having trouble coming up with a good compromise on my own. Thanks for any help you veterans can give.
Thieves are NOT invul while doing Whirling Axe stolen from a warrior. Not sure what makes you believe that, but we most definitely are not. When we’re doing Dagger Storm (ballerina throwing blue daggers), we ARE immune to ranged, and reflect ranged attacks, but we are still 100% vulnerable to melee attacks. If a thief is using Dagger Storm, just hop on over to him and put him down in melee. As a thief, I should probably not be telling you that incase you didn’t already know, but there are PLENTY of ways to deal with thieves. As I stated earlier, blocks, dodges, any defensive cooldowns or just the abundance of CC that warriors have access to, can easily counter thieves.
WvW is a great place to look at balance. You’re looking at a much bigger crowd size to take data from. sPvP has it’s place, but don’t go getting all high and mighty because you refuse to play WvW.
I’m maining on my 80 Thief and working on a Backstab crit build I’ve customized for myself, so I hope I can give a little insight. HS spamming for one just shows they’re fairly awful, so use some defensive cd’s, CC’s, or like mentioned, just dodge away when you see it coming. Heartseeker spam will run them out of initiative pretty fast, and then it’s your turn to destroy them.
Another thing to keep in mind, is if they’re sword/pistol or dagger/dagger like this is about, they’re more than likely full zerker geared, meaning they have base HP, so if they’re gonna front load on you, dodge out, wait a sec, dodge again while they mindlessly spam HS till they’re empty, then just charge back in and front load on them with cd’s also. I’m currently just built around backstab burst, but built in some vitality pieces, and I can burst and actually sustain dps on target also, but most aren’t and are running at base HP or neat to it, which is only like 10,800.
In closing, CC is a pretty big bane of Thieves except for a select few survival/defensive builds, most burst thieves are front loaded to burst and hope for that kill. Find a way to throw a block, dodge, CC, or use some cooldowns, then put em on the ground for good.
Edit Oh, and don’t be a 3 button wonder warrior with Bull’s Rush, Frenzy, Hundred Blades.

I like swords… Welcome to Cornelia!… I like swords…
Was thinking of maybe doing Carrion armor, Rampager weapons, and the Power/Precision/Toughness jewelry for a good balance of the stats, while going for a high passive hp regen build to give added staying power to the setup to keep on target for longer times.
She’s remake #4 of my warrior. I was originally making her to be a Greatsword warrior. But every single swing, she was squealing and sounding like she was yiffing. I thought no biggy, I’ll just make her into a Hammer warrior instead. Hammer 1 sounded just fine, but 2-5 all made the exact same yiffing noises. So, I’m left to Rifle, Longbow, and Dual Wield/Shield combos, and Dual Swords/Rifle seem like they’re going to work well together since they both do condition damage. I just don’t feel like re-rolling the warrior anymore, so dual swords/rifle it is.
So the consensus is pretty much Rabid, or Rampager? Wouldn’t the lack of Power from the Rabid set be a problem? If I do go with Rabid, would the Undead runes be a good choice for the extra boost to toughness and the 6 piece bonus of 5% of tough converted to cond. damage also?
So pretty much the spec I linked in first post? Would have like 80% crit chance most of the time. Thinking of axe for offhand instead for the double hit/crit buff attack and extra AoE capability, and running Earth Sigils on both to pretty much always have the proc going.
In doing a full condition build like this, do you think it’d be better to run Carrion to get the extra condition damage, and to sacrifice the crit rate for extra Vitality? I figure that’d make ya extra tanky and give you some more possible uptime on target with the extra hp pool to soak some more.
Does the bleed duration make the tics go faster also, so you effectively are hitting for more damage in a shorter time, or is it exactly as it sounds, and they just last longer? I’ve heard some mixed reports on that bit.
Just starting up a warrior, and as I absolutely cannot stand the squeaking noise my human female warrior makes when swinging 2h weapons, I’ve thought about doing a Dual Swords/Rifle condition damage build.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fIAQNAscUjcO1wBPKPMxBA8BrMP+pohuMoaKA
That’s the build I currently have in mind, while using either 3 Krait, 3 Afflicted runes, or 6 Undead Runes for some added toughness and condition damage instead of bleed duration. Was thinking of either going with Rampagers armor and weapons for the high power, precision and condition damage since warriors already have highest base HP and keeping my crit rate very high this way, or going with full Carrions for the Power/Vit/Cond instead, and just a very low crit chance but higher overall condition damage.
Anyone have any other good builds or critiquing they can do on this for a Dual Swords/Rifle build?
Edit The current setup linked is if I were to do Rampagers setup. If I were to do Carrion instead, I’d consider using Dolyak runes and the passive Heal since I’d have a higher hp pool that the passive regen I’d be doing from the 15 trait heal, Dolyak regen and passive Heal would allow me to be a bit more flexible, but lower overall condition damage.

Extremely low power it looks like, as well as relatively low crit chance. Lack of any points into the Power trait line is another reason. Another big part of high crits is having high critical damage from gear. Check into upping all those and you’ll start seeing a lot higher hits.
Human Female Thief: Valery Underwood. I know a Valery, and Sara Jean Underwood was on my mind. Mmmm.
Human Male Engineer: Admiral Skrewball. He’s a crazy man, with a scarred face due to one of his numerous ridiculous experiments gone bad.
Human Male Mesmer of Cantha: Zhen Wang. From what I found, Buddhist term meaning “Reality and Illusion”, translated into Mandarin Chinese. Fitting for a Mesmer I though.
Human Female Necromancer: Acolyte Darkheart. Acolyte of Grenth, Darkheart because I wasn’t particularly creative at the time of her making and Darkheart was the best necromancer type surname I could think of.
Human Female Warrior: Alice Riot. Riot Alice, only as a Warrior.
Wow, I have 5 humans…
During the story line to find your dead sister, you actually do get asked what ancestry you are both from, but it has nothing to do with the story line from what I can tell. It would be nice if you could pick your ancestry to be a bigger part of the personal story.
The sounds at this point on my low level warrior I mentioned, are so horrible that I can’t stand them and I’m just going to end up doing a dual swords/rifle condition build instead. Kinda disappointing I can’t play the way I had intended without rerolling my warrior once again, but I’ve remade the warrior like 3-4 times already and don’t feel like doing it again at this point.
As a thief main, I do fully understand where he’s coming from. I’ve seen countless times where an invisible thief will eliminate players from a big group, finish them off, move on to the next, wash, rinse, repeat, all without ever once coming out of stealth. It happens, and that is a real thing to complain about. The near instant death though, is due to extreme glass cannoning, and not something to complain about though.
I was gonna do greatsword on my human female warrior also, until I heard this after every single swing and it is ridiculous. It sounds nothing like what a warrior should. So I switched to Hammer instead, and the grunts from swinging Hammer 1 were freaking perfect. And then I swung Hammer 2-5, and she started squealing again just like greatsword. What. The. Heck. This is some of the most ridiculous sounds I’ve ever heard put into a game for a warrior using 2h weapons. I sound like I’m a yiffing.
Kinda creeps me out.
At low level, going for hardest hits, you are going to want to just dump your points into Power and Precision trait lines, and go with dual daggers for the backstab build, or go with sword/pistol for a Pistol Whip build. As with the trait lines to do, you’ll want Power, Precision, and Crit damage if it’s on gear that low.
Both. I mostly do solo PvE, and when out in WvW, it’s usually solo or small groups and working well in both cases. I feel pretty confident taking any 1v1, as well as many 2-3v1’s.
I’ve gone for Carrion in all slots including jewelry. For the Sigils, I’m using Agony for bleed duration on the pistol, and for offhand, using Corruption, to get the stacking condition damage with every kill. Been working well for me.
Sword/pistol is still pretty much a one trick pony. Replace Heartseeker with Pistol Whip. I’ve been using a Pistol/Dagger setup with pretty good results that requires a bit more finesse in managing cooldowns and such to handle self healing and such. Look up “Guild Wars 2 Wild Bill” on youtube. It’s not me, but he’s a hell of a good player and using his build with some slight tweaks, and it’s a fun build.
So exactly how much damage can a burst thief do against high toughness characters?

High power, and high crit damage makes for a very bursty build when you crit. The first would have been a low crit with cloak and dagger would be my guess, followed by the 12k backstab.
If you are going with low vitality builds, you’ll need to be sticking to high power, precision and crit damage to make up for the lack of hit points with heavy burst. I’m currently using a condition/vitality build with pistol/dagger setup and loving it. Good self healing along with sustained dps makes for a fun way to play. I have exotic weapons and jewelry, and only rare armor, and still have 19,205 hp. You can get the hp, just gotta find what you are willing to trade off for it.
Coming from a constant re-roller, yes. It’s worth it. I’ve deleted numerous characters, usually never higher than 20’s, to remake them, but if you don’t like your character, it’s worth it to make one you do like.
Here’s mine. Commando jacket, shoulders, pants, human t1 cultural helm, Noble gloves and boots. Dyed Abyss with Hot Pink. I’m liking the look a lot. Have a God Temple karma helm also for the outfit. Thinking of changing some things around and trying for the Riot Alice look.
Reading comprehension. He said he’s gonna make a new one and go with a different race for his second one. Charr to be specific, because of their cultural armor and their attitude. Why would you ask a nonsensical question like that when you already have your answer if you just read.
Anyone with any notions on a good bursty spec for leveling and WvW small group play? Threw together a mobility build last night, but didn’t care to much for it, just looking for some helpful advice from you veteran thieves that have gone through the leveling process and are now out rocking people in WvW.
That is the rare armor sets. The set is called Noble. Cheapest way to do it is 15 vials of thin blood per piece for the inscriptions, the only costly parts. Starts with this cheap set at level 35.
Starting back on my thief after getting my ranger to 80. Thief is up to lvl 48 now, and just trying to find a good build for it, one that I can use while PvE’ing, and I plan on being out in WvW with my guild on the thief also quite a bit. I’ve heard there are some great permastealth or near to it builds that are good for causing chaos, and that there are some near unlimited initiative regen builds also. I plan on using dual daggers, and either sword/pistol for single target burst, or shortbow for aoe’s and sieges.
I haven’t the foggiest notion of what direction I should be taking the thief for small group WvW encounters (plan on leveling a lot in WvW) and PvE leveling. Any help you veteran thieves could throw out to me, would be very much appreciated. Thanks.
Thanks for the PvP recipe, that’ll help whenever I get around to that part, and ya, pretty disappointed that they don’t have a real good way to acquire this set in PvE, as it’s my favorite armor set in the game, of all 3 armor types.
So, I see it there in the sPvP locker, and I’ve managed to find the Chest, Shoulders and Pants so far from doing the personal story missions in Orr. How can I get the boots, gloves and the awesome helm to complete my set? The Commando helm reward from the quests was just a silly pirate mask.
Has anyone found the other 3 pieces with the correct graphics?
Ya, my thinking on this is change the lower starting zone hearts to give roughly 50% more exp per heart, to make up for the huge lack of events, but to only do this for the starting zones, and to have it only scale to do the 50% extra exp up to level 18 or so. This would give starting characters the exp they need to get up to the correct level to proceed into the 15-25 zones, and there are generally more players in those zones, providing enough events to get through them with decent exp.
My first few characters in the starting weeks, would get to like 17-18 with 100% completion in the starting zones, and now my characters are barely level 12 with 100% completion. The 50% boost to heart exp would possibly have to be tweaked either up or down, depending on the hard numbers the devs have, but this would provide a good boost to new players to help them with leveling in the beginning so they aren’t constantly fighting +2-4’s and way to low level for the next zone by the time they finish the first.
As the title states, now that we’re a little ways into the game, and there is virtually no one left in the lower zones, equating out to far far fewer events and players to fuel the difficulty of those events, is there any plans to now boost exp granted by either mobs, or by finishing the hearts in the zones?
Made a few new characters lately, and both of my last 2 human characters, were only lvl 12 and only just, by the time they finished the starting zone, Queensdale. There is a complete lack of events unlike the first couple weeks when the zones were flooded with players, making it easy to find events to grind for karma, exp and some coin. Now, I’m constantly fighting +2-4 mobs just because I’ve finished the rest of the zone.
Anyone else running into these issues and feel a simple boost to the exp from finishing the hearts would be a good idea? Any dev thoughts/comments on something like this possibly getting this in the works?
Add Calysto.7469, although at the rate of overnerfs and overbuffs to difficulties, I’ve only just started dungeons and am quite possibly done with them. The MASSIVE grind for gear in this game is a huge turn off, and now with all the marks rewarded only at the end of the dungeon, if you spend hours in a dungeon run and just can’t finish it, you are just SOL.
How are queue times for WvW on Blackgate, and how do you typically fair in your matchups? Currently on Stormbluff Isle and queue times can easily go 3+ hours some nights and that’s just ruining the game imo. Looking at maybe transfering with some friends and possibly my guild, just wanting to get a good idea of how it’s going there.
I’m currently at lvl 80, wearing all lvl 80 Valkyrie armor with precision rare runes (4 piece sets) 4 eagle, 2 Lyssa for the runes. All Power/Precision/Toughness jewelry, and berserker Longbow. Stats are pretty good for green gear.
Power: 1910
Precision: 1698
Tough: 1301
Vitality: 1100
Attack: 2990
Crit: 41%
Armor: 2176
Hp: 16,992
I’m 30 Marksmanship, 30 Skirmishing, 5 Wilderness Survival, 5 Beastmastery.
Using Air sigils on my weapons.
My Armored Fish pet is named Captain Fantastic, does that win?
I just want to join my guild on our new server, and to get the heck off of Eredon Terrace where the RUIN guild is doing everything they can to ruin WvW, including breaking multiple TOS rules about server swapping to recruit and sit on siege so they can’t be used, done by their guild leader no less.
Support team, where aaaaare youuu?
I lied, just tabbed back in game and had the network error popup.
Took me a long time to get logged in this time, and the transfer didn’t pop up the network issue, but now my game is locked up on the Transfer window right after I hit the transfer button. Is that considered progress?
Would be nice if we could get some support team answers
So, my guild transferred to a new server, only to find out that the PvP ruining guild, applied known as Ruination (RUIN) was on that server, and now we’re transferring again. I’m attempting to transfer, have 4x’s now, and every time when I hit transfer, I get a popup saying Network Issues, then it closes the game like it’s transferring, but when I log back in, I’m still on the same server, every time.
Any ideas from the support team?
