This is a bit offensive. This armor (if my research serves me well) is the same as Heritage Armor, which I get at my hall of monuments.

So I played the kitten out of GW1 and my reward is then given to every noob who buys the game new. Dissapointing.

No, it isn’t the same as heritage armour. It’s a free copy of (one of) the first Gem Store armour skins.

Carzor,

DO you have the ports open to one system and not the other?

No, I thought of that but the router is on default settings for both. The problem is just as bad when the other system is turned off, so it can’t be a case of the router ‘automatically’ reserving the ports for one machine either.

The really weird thing is that it’s only an enemy zerg that causes the problem. I can be with dozens of my own team, but as soon as say 15-20 enemies come within targeting range (and it literally is as soon as they come into targeting range) all hell breaks loose – or really just breaks :P

Edit: Networkdiag results (excluding the first hop, which is just to my router and suffered 0% packet loss)

This is very weird, and seems to be a computer issue after all (though what kind of computer issue I have no idea). I was able to successfully login and play within targeting range of a zerg (‘successful’ in the non-lag sense, not in the staying-alive sense!) on a different computer. The weird thing is that the two computers are connected to the same router by the same method (ethernet cable), and even have the same network chipset (they were bought around the same time). Does anyone have any ideas that don’t involve ‘full reinstall of Windows’?

Carzor Stelatis.9435,

This user is in the EU as well and seems to be having routing issues with a company called Tele2.net

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Frequent-GW2-Disconnects-Provider-related/first#post3226628

I seem to have similar problems (I used the server IP from that other thread rather than getting my own server’s IP ingame) from one IP registered to my ISP (109.159.250.40 – BT) and one registered to a telecoms company in Barcelona (89.149.164.62).

Gandara EU. At peak times (which really means 4pm – midnight, and all weekend) I get unplayable lag (30s+) whenever a group of enemies comes within targeting range in WvW. It can be small groups (20 or so) whereas 3-4 months ago I’d only get the usual 2s or so skill lag – and that only when it was a 60vs60 zerg fight. Basically described in my tech support thread:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Unplayable-skill-lag-in-WvW/first#post3222491

I can’t say exactly when this problem (whatever is causing it) started because I haven’t played the game much in the past 2 months or so due to work, but it’s certainly much much worse than it ever was previously (even the Abbadon’s Mouth gigazerg never gave me as much lag as I now get from a 20-man group).

Gandara EU. I would always get the ‘traditional’ skill lag (2s or so delay on skillcasting when it’s a 60v60 zerg fight), but this is 30s+, essentially my character being completely disabled (seems to rubberband me as well as affecting skills) whenever a group of even 20 or so enemies comes within targeting range.

I’ve come back to the game after not playing much the last couple of months (for non-game reasons) so this could have developed at any point during that time I guess.

I know skill lag is an ongoing game-wide issue that Anet have been trying to fix since release, but since I seem to have a particularly bad case of it (30s+, with much smaller zergs than ones that would only give 2s or so skill lag 4 months ago) I wondered if there’s anything I can do on my end that might help make the game playable again? I’ve already tried:

  • Giving the game administrator privileges (in Windows compatibility settings)
  • Repairing the game archive file (ie adding -repair to the shortcut
  • Reducing graphics quality to ‘best performance’ (even though skill lag has nothing to do with graphics settings, I was desperate enough to try anyway and it didn’t help)

Anything else I can try? Or is it just ‘wait for the servers to suck less’?

Some other assumptions I’m seeing is about our server hardware and inefficient use of communication between them and the game’s database. I’ll go ahead and put these assumptions to rest. Our server hardware was actually purchased new right around the launch of the game, rest assured its not out-dated.

The hardware can be as new and as powerful as you like. The problem for EU players is that you chose to locate your ‘EU’ servers in Texas, and no matter how powerful the server hardware you’re going to get more lag if the data has to go from (say) France to Texas and back than if it had to go from France to the Netherlands and back.

The way I see it no one deserves to be there more than anyone else. First come first serve.

Think about it you were saying “dungeon” instead of “wvw”. Basically you’re just being an elitist.

Dungeons are instanced, so one player playing dungeons does not reduce the ability of other players to play dungeons. The complaint is not about ‘bad players’ but about people who have no interest in WvW nonetheless being forced to go there in order to get access to certain PvE content.

People get “misplaced” into overflows from people doing things other than the world mega bosses in a zone while the boss is active, really no difference.

It’s very different, because there are no overflows in WvW.

Besides, the GvGers who want their own private server but are too cheap to pay for a custom arena are the only significant ‘capacity issue’ in WvW, not the odd random digging up Iron Ore.

or elitists refusing to allow players in dungeon parties unless they’re donning full ascended gear, but I’ll let you guys decide whether or not these are worth including in the discussion.

Solution: just lie. Keep pingcodes for Ascended gear handy and put them into chat when these idiots demand you ping your gear.

You will need Ascended if you WvW. Unless you just like getting curbstomped and giving other players easy loot.

In 1v1s possibly, but if you’re in a 40 vs 40 zerg fight it won’t really make a difference if you have one or two pieces of 9% Ascended bonus missing.

Think about it. If every big MMO title became B2P from now on, people would have no reason to be loyal to any game anymore and just hop around like crazy. Where would they spend their money? It’d be a battle of the cash shops rather than the games. Not sure if that would be a good development really.

With a buy-to-play model people might buy the game and then not stick with it. On the other hand, with a subscription model (requiring a £120 per year commitment, and losing all your progress if you stop paying for one month) most of those people would never have played the game at all. So instead of getting £30 from someone who then leaves (and therefore isn’t costing any resources), they get £0.

If the might of the Star Wars marketing machine couldn’t make the subscription MMO work, that’s a pretty sure sign that it’s the last decade’s business model.

1% chance to get a 1% mf boost. Sounds allright to me. With some diminishing returns after X magic find.

They want greens and blues to be worth salvaging. I dunno, lets just wait and see…

It’s not like we can change their plans

-_-

Possibly to try and reinflate the ecto price? If greens can suddenly be salvaged for MF (or sold on TP to people who salvage them for MF), that means fewer greens being mystic forged for rares which are then salvaged into ectos.

As for magic find, perhaps it’ll be permanent but with a cap (say 200%?). That way there’s something for people to work towards (particularly if Essences of Luck are a fairly rare drop) without feeling that they’re constantly having to grind for temporary boosts. I think temporary MF would be seen as a scam to sell cash shop MF boosts.

I understand the confusion. The facts do agree with each other when you consider that ArenaNet is the god of GW and has decreed that what was once is no longer. They decided to change the game by removing Magic Find from gear. They decided that some sets were to be removed completely and replaced with other sets and that Celestial gear would only have the Magic Find removed. They also decided that by doing so, the sets would be balanced based on the new line they created.

Yes, exactly. Thus the confusion. Because they changed the balance, and insist that it remained unchanged. If celestial sets were balanced then, and are balanced now, it is only because the word “balance” got redefined to a different meaning. Especially since the celestial sets were actually inferior to the rest even before MF removal.
Which is completely beside the point, by the way. The point is, that lot of people made/bought celestial gear only because it contained MF stat. many did that even before Anet reached decision about MF removal.
In other words, they did exactly the same thing as people that bought/crafted double stat + MF sets. And yet they are treated differently.

By ‘balance’ they mean combat power. Celestial gear will have exactly the same killing power, survivability and so on as it did before the MF removal.

We should go on strike, me and my friends are no longer buying gems untill the dev team wakes up.

Yes, go on strike to limit Anet’s resources further, getting less work done. Why are people so impatient? Why do people not understand how long it takes, and how expensive it is to create and maintain an MMO. Anet’s doing the best they can. If you can’t wait, take a break and play another game. That’s the genius behind a F2P system. Come back when things get better and stop QQ’ing.

First off, Guild Wars 2 is buy-to-play not free-to-play. That aside, declining to give more money to a company you’re dissatisfied with, in order to encourage them to sell you what you do want, is how capitalism works.

Whatever is causing this, I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a fix folks. Arenanet has been having these problems since the release of Guild Wars 1 – anyone else remember having to login to the Wintersday finale 30 minutes before it started because the lag was so bad? Much as I love Anet, if they haven’t worked out how to fix their ‘crippling lag at peak times’ problem in eight years then they probably aren’t going to.

Edit: It could of course just be a latency issue. EU servers are hosted in Texas according to the address the /IP emote gives me. Perhaps big zergs and lots of skill cast / damage messages between client and server just can’t travel across the Atlantic Ocean quickly enough?

With 6 pieces of armor, 5 trinkets, and 2 weapons there will be a significant difference between Exotic and Ascended sets of gear. If each piece makes your set 2% better, then all 13 pieces makes you 26% better!

No, that’s not how it works. Ascended gear is about 2% better per item – in other words the Ascended Sword is 2% better stats than the Exotic Sword. So if you have Ascended in every slot, your set is 2% better than someone with Exotic in every slot. If you only have Ascended in one slot, then your set is 0.15% better (2% x 1/13).

That of course assumes that Ascended is 2% better than Exotic, I haven’t checked the numbers myself.

Hey all, no worries, we got you covered.

Weapons, armor and trinkets with magic find will become account bound, lose their current stats and will gain the ability to be double-clicked to select one of several stat options depending on the item.

For example, if you have an Explorer’s Pearl Staff, you can now double-click it to change it to any other crafting stat.

We will have a blog post about it with more extensive information as well, keep an eye on the website.

So wait… ….WAIT WAIT WAIT…. * urnfff…. think I just dropped a brick here *

On Explorer’s… MF is THE primary stat. Being able to change that stat, means picking whatever PRIMARY STAT on whatever Gear set you want. This is a potential level of PowerCreep that not even Zerker4Lyfe minmaxxers have asked for.

You won’t get to change the primary stat on its own, you’ll get to choose from the existing combinations. So for example on an Explorer’s Staff you don’t get to make it Condition Duration / Power / Precision (because that combination doesn’t exist), you have to choose from one of these:

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Explorer%27s#Triple_attribute

Not all of those are armor crafting stats.

Still no confirmation on Sentinel & Celestial though but they are both armor crafting stats.

Point. All the craftable ones then :P

I’d guess that the ones requiring a special unlock (Celestial, Giver’s etc.) won’t be available. Especially Celestial.

Directors and producers don’t tell community managers anything because like this guy, he posts only part of the information online and causes a ****-storm. So, take what he says a grain of salt. All we know, now, is that we will be able to switch MF gear to another kind of gear. We don’t know anything beyond that.

I’d be very, very surprised if Utility Infusions still work. A refund of 20 laurels for anyone who has one would make much more sense, and would also not contradict the ‘no more gear-based MF’ announcement.

The one problem I have with rallying is that it punishes you for playing better, at least in PvE. Say I’m fighting three monsters. If I only get the first one down to 5% health remaining (ie I do ‘95% of a monster’ in damage) then if I get downed, I get to rally and don’t have to pay death penalty.

If on the other hand I manage to kill the first monster and get the second one to 90% health (ie I do ‘110% of a monster’ in damage), I don’t get to rally and do have to pay death penalty. So I effectively get fined 4s or so for playing better than I did in the first example.

Aside from some classes having few decent downed skills (Ele great, Engi and Warrior not so much), that’s the only real problem I see in the system.

One action per keystroke is a keybinding, not a macro. ‘Macro’ means more than one action per keystroke.

….it concerns me that this game could be heading places that discourage having lots of characters on one account.

Your question is a good one, but it is coming from a twisted point of view. I have 8 characters myself but I realize it SHOULD take me 8x longer to outfit them compared to 1 character. Despite what many think, time gating does not exist to punish anyone (it’s there to maintain some level of “rarity” for at least some limited time frame).

Even if you don’t think it’s an intentional punishment (as some here will post…“ANet HATES ALTS PEOPLE!!”), you viewing it as a discouragement is just a point of view that you should re-examine.

But if it’s time-gated, it doesn’t take you 8x longer. It takes you more than 8x longer, because you have to (say for a full set of armour) wait through 48 time gates as well as the extra time needed to farm the gold/mats/etc.

What happens to all magic find gear, ANET? I have a set for farming that I’m upset if I will have to just… Destroy. Can a developer answer any of these questions? What about the infusion on my amulet as well? Thanks.

Your MF% will not change (much if at all) they are removing MF from gear and putting it as permanent/comsumable bonuses account wide.

I’m also curious to what they will be replacing MF on gear with. the sets have to have something in its place.

Most likely option is that the gear will become whatever the closest equivalent spec is. So for example Explorer’s gear (MF, Power, Precision) gear will become Zerk (Power, Precision, Crit Damage), Wayfarer’s (MF, Toughness, Vitality) will become Soldier’s (Power, Toughness Vitality) and so on.

I just hope they keep “There With Yakkington” available for crafting – I always wanted it for the RP value rather than the MF anyway

It did take me a while to adjust to GW2, but I really like it now I have. What a lot of GW1 players didn’t realise was that it wasn’t really an MMO. It was an RPG that you could play with a party, with the towns essentially serving as a (very nice) lobby system. It was really much more like Diablo 2 (with better graphics/setting/storyline/gameplay etc.) than World of Warcraft – which possibly isn’t all that surprising since supposedly some of the original Arenanet devs had previous worked on Diablo 2 at Blizzard. That I think explains a lot of the ‘culture shock’ type criticism that Guild Wars 2 had at release, and the OP is spot on with his ‘completely different starting point’ argument.

I did like the epic storyline of Guild Wars 1, the sense that you were actually playing through something (even when just randomly running around Lornar’s Pass with henchies), but Guild Wars 2 is fantastic in its own way. Making the same game over and over again doesn’t work, and ultimately bores fans – see Unreal Tournament 2003 – Unreal Tournament 2004 – Unreal Tournament 3 for an example.

Very Concerned with Trebuchet Mastery

poison removing supply worries me,as now ppl will just ninja from the garrisons when they can.
it’s hard enough now getting pugs ect to take supplys from camps.
This is going to make things worst imo.

I think this is partially intended (particularly with the broken matching system) to reduce the frequency of worlds getting roflstomped in their own borderlands. If a couple of trebs in Garrison can keep Bay low on supply, that gives the world whose borderland it is a distinct advantage.

Thieves have ONE thing truly zerg worthy and that is blast finishers. Their DPS is nice but their squishiness offsets much of that.

Their dagger storm elite (haven’t levelled my thief yet so I can’t remember the real name) can cause panic in less organised zergs. Especially if it’s right before a push by the heavies.

trebuchets... WHERE'S THE FUN?

Carzor Stelatis.9435

Although trebuchets are a very useful piece of siege, they are the most mind-numbingly boring piece of siege to operate (only exception is when counter-trebbing). Holding down the 2 button for hours on end to take down a T3 wall and then receiving no reward whatsoever when your teammates run in and cap the tower makes the experience even more… “enjoyable.”

A couple of months ago (I don’t treb often, largely for the reasons you describe) I got a Gold event reward for trebbing the Anza wall down in EBG. I mean I know 2 silver isn’t great, but there are some rewards.

Perhaps trebbers could be given a loot chest when the tower/keep/castle is taken, equal to the average loot bags per player who was attacking – so if the average zergling got 5 loot bags from attacking the fort the trebber opened for them, the ’Sieger’s Chest’ would have 5 loot bags worth of stuff in it.

Ideal server match up system?

What the OP said. It would be better than the current system which almost invariably results in at least one (sometimes two) of the three teams getting a blowout week and nobody playing WvW from Monday onwards. We in Gandara have for once got a reasonable match this week (with Underworld, the first genuinely equal match we’ve had since the new system), but I can’t imagine it’s been much fun for Ring of Fire most of the time.

Clarification: You need to get to the overflow within 10 minutes of the invasion starting or you will need to wait about 45 minutes for the next one to begin. Please tell me this is a joke?

No. The event lasts 45 minutes, so if it started any later than ten minutes past the hour it would get cut off (on the hour) when the next event started.

If you can, do so.

Fallacy I’m afraid. The inability (due to lack of gold) to turn on a commander tag does not mean that person is incapable of accurately identifying poor use of a commander tag. Same way that most people couldn’t build a car, but if the car catches fire on the way home from the showroom they know that the folk who built it did something wrong.

Disable Champion spawns during invasions

Various members of our guild saw 3-4 different overflows of the Frostgorge Sound invasion sabotaged by commanders who were all grouped together and only interested in farming champions. This resulted in players who didn’t fully understand the event congregating around the commanders, and then failing the event. Could there perhaps be a change made to the event setup, so that no champions spawn until the event is completed?

You know who else is alienated from this event?

People without internet.
GW2 alienate all those who can’t afford internet.

Stop alienation.

They’re not customers who’ve paid Arenanet $60+ for the game, so the comparison doesn’t work I’m afraid.

Still, not being able to do the Gauntlet doesn’t bother me. In fact, I’ve yet to even try it as it just isn’t the sort of content I like, any more than DoA hard mode was in GW1.

It isn’t ‘exclusionary’ to have a massively overpowered, luck-driven boss fight any more than it’s ‘exclusionary’ to have jumping puzzles. Neither are compulsory, neither are required to obtain max-level gear, so to each their own.

Or maybe because most people are already at 80.
I’m already at 80 and with lots of objective to go for. Explain to me why I should roam around and kill grawls with you?
Whatever happned to expand the world? exactly, that’s because the world is expanding, you don’t see alot of people in one given area.

I think that’s one of the problems with the GW2 end game. It leaves out the open world with the exception of Orr/Southsun and the new champion rotations. You can explore the open world all day and you won’t make as much as someone who chain farmed in the Pavillion or ran champion routes in a zerg. When your goals are to acquire gear, lodestones, weapon skins or gold, there is no incentive to explore every nook and cranny of the open world. Karma is almost worthless, DEs are devoid of unique rewards, you can’t acquire unique items from unique locations, everything is just some silly RNG gamble which promotes efficiency over exploratory gameplay.

That could solve the problem: make a level 80 character get level 80 loot regardless of where that character is in the game (rather than getting say lv12 drops most of the time, with maybe a 1/10 chance for level-appropriate loot). If the concern is a drying up in the supply of items for levelling on TP, then make it optional: when you spawn in a zone you get a one-time choice of ‘level loot’ or ‘zone loot’ which is active until you leave the zone or relog (so basically the same way Hard Mode worked in GW1).

Could your gaming habits survive in only 80GB?

Mine did, way back in the days where games were only 2-6 GB! I had a 90 GB HDD.

Pfft, kids these days. 2GB hard drive and Fifa 97 taking up 110MB of that were the real golden age!

The OP has a valid issue though in that the game design/architecture choices made for Guild Wars 2 are creating a population problem where none need exist. For the MMO areas in Guild Wars 1 (ie the towns), the population in each language region (USA-English, Europe-English, Europe-French etc.) was only segmented when there were more players than a single District could support. So if there were only twelve English-speaking European players in Shing Jea Monastery, for example, then all twelve of them would be in the same District and able to play together rather than being divided up into twelve empty Districts.

Whereas in Guild Wars 2 players are permanently segmented into Worlds, meaning that any region not called Orr, Queen’s Jubilee or the Troll Cave will be empty most of the time even if there are actually dozens of people playing in it.

Still, at least an artificially empty zone is better than the insufficient-server-capacity clusterfail that is Crown Pavilion.

This is a game where a ‘Blunderbuss’ shot is fired from a ‘rifle’ (Engi skill #3) despite only smoothbore weapons being able to fire metal scraps. It is not a game where the real-world meanings of words, or real-world physics, have any particular importance.

TL;DR – just enjoy the content, and have a little private laugh at Arenanet not knowing what a jubilee is

I’ve managed to reconcile it all now to a point that there will be no quitting (not over this anyway!) but I’m still not very happy with the way its all worked out. I was going to copy over a quote from your other thread but everything there I agreed with and you know what you wrote. But I lived through the various incarnations of SWG and this nothing on what happened there so I’ll still be here.

I can’t think of my people as very individual now, which is quite poor for a game that is easy to alt in. There’s a picture of an amorphous beast that’s all eyes and mouths in an old Conan comic. I wish i could find it…

That’s pretty much where I am right now. I still think it’s dumb to make gold-sharing compulsory (some of us actually roleplay in this online roleplaying game, rather than min-maxing everything), but it’s gone from ‘utterly game-ruining’ to ‘a minor faff’ now that I have the personal guild workaround properly understood.

Thanks. I’m only interested in stage 1 (will only be using it as a workaround to the ‘gold sharing’ aspect of the next update) so that’s reasonably manageable. I’ll just stick to my main for the few days required to get it!
