Please keep your useless off topic opinions to yourself.

I am asking for a workaround for a technical problem.

There is no technical problem here. Delta is spot on the money & I agree with him 100%. Doesn’t matter how much tweaking, driver/Windows installs you do. Nothing is going to make a slow laptop faster. By all means, feel free to waste your time trying (I’m sure you will), but it won’t get you anywhere. You’ll realize sooner or later, I’m tipping probably later because you think there is a magic fix for slow laptops.

If you extrapolate benchmarks (vantage -> 06) from the 435m to the 8800gt to the 7800gs, the 435m is below the minimum.
The CPU cant really compare directly because of turboboost, but on single-threaded apps (superpi) it matches a stock q660, while on multi-threaded it will be ~35% weaker. But because at 2 cores loaded the speed will be 2.2GHz, that may as well be minimum.

4 cores will be used playing GW2, which means he’s stuck at 1.7ghz. Which is well under min.

According to this:

http://media.msi.com/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=35558
And http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_AMD_Phenom_microprocessors#.22Agena.22_.28B2.2FB3.2C_65_nm.2C_Quad-core.29

You can buy this:

http://www.pricewatch.com/gallery/cpu/phenom_9600

You will also want a modern graphicscard. Which one depends on how big your powersupply is, sad to say. New computer would be best as it becomes expensive just to upgrade.

Very bad advice. That old Phenom 1 will be even worse than his 5200. You also tell him to put a modern graphics card with a 6yr old processor?? C’mon man…

Aye that fluctuation is caused by those power saving things in BIOS. However disabling them does not help me gain any more fps… O/C’ing to 4/4.3 or higher will give you better performance if you can keep it cool but not much in WvW because the problem has nothing to do with the hardware…

It’s 100% hardware. Amd processors can’t cut the mustard with this game. End of story.

@Cubzz it sure is Guild Wars 2 because the clocks are stable in any other game. The FX processor has turbo mode where it clocks the processor up and down. What ever programming Guild Wars 2 has is freaking out the CPU.

Also before I did anything to the PC the CPU was going over 65*C after I got the CPU the temp was 35*C. Now that I manually set the voltage the temp is staying around 25*c. That’s a 40*C difference and just for reference the CPU ran @ 49*c with the old tower and CPU fan. Guild Wars 2 is causing high heat in the FX processor!

I ran some more tests last night and running the game stock @3.1GHZ I am getting 45~89ps and it hit 109fps a few times but its mostly in the 80fps range. And the CPU is running 25*C, so I see no need to overclock!

No… it’s not. Faildozer’s are renown for downclocking whenever they feel like it. If the cpu is >65c then you’ve got a problem with your cooling.

PC is VERY low end OP. Do you really expect to run a brand new MMO perfectly with 5yr old hardware? C’mon now…

I do so just fine. /shrug.

Yeah it chugs a bit when I get 50 people on screen and am trying to watch netflix at the same time, but with my OC at over 3 ghz, it generally does just fine.

A 3Ghz overclocked quad is far from a Stock 2.33Ghz quad like Op’s. Not sure why you are comparing here..

What I am comparing is that he has a much better processor than I do, and is probably running lower settings for graphics.

His CPU can run 3.0 ghz all day long, should he choose to do so.
His cpu is better than mine in literally every single way except for the clock speed.

That mabye true, but not many people can/know how to or even care to overclock. A lot of factors are involved with overclocking, not just run it at 3ghz done…

@Cbuzz
i5-2500k running at 4.7-4.9GHZ. I’ve tested extensively with my OC multiplier and it doesn’t really matter past 4.5GHZ.

Like I said in, WvW you are going to get 35FPS max no matter what you gpu configuration is. There is no getting around that CPU bottleneck. Even though your CPU is insanely powerful it’s not really going to matter in those situations weather you have SLI enabled or not.

Are you speaking just for your system or EVERY system? Very rarely does mine drop below 50 even in decent sized battles.

Don’t waste your time waiting for new drivers, the current ones work fine & have done since GW2 was released. If you want better Sli performance you’ll either have to overclock that 920 (highly recommended) or upgrade.

Swedemon.4670: You pay for what you get. The AMD cpu has dismal GW2 performance compared to Intel. If OP wants even a half enjoyable experience playing GW2 then Intel i5/7 is the only way

OP: Your system is very unbalanced, such a strong Gpu with a very weak cpu. This is a recipe for extremely low FPS in general. You definitely don’t need to go SLi as a single 660Ti eats Gw2, I know I’ve got one. You just need a strong processor that can keep up with it. Currently, no AMD processor can do that, your only option is i5/7 Intel.

If your on a budget, i’d go for something like the 2500k. Highly overclockable & cheap.

You are going to experience the same lows no matter what. For example, in WvW if you are getting 20 FPS you are going to get the same FPS with one or two GPUs enabled. This is because at that point your CPU is a bottleneck. There are a lot of moments like this in the game so unfortunately you are not likely to see the benefit of SLI (especially if you are using a frame-rate limit).

A nice, stable CPU overclock can help a bit. Though you mileage will vary. I have an i5-200k @ 4.7GHZ and my frame-rate goes to hell in heavy players moments no matter what.

That’s just wrong. Sli is working very well (for me anyway). Disable SLi & my FPS plummet to almost HALF.

Your going to need a strong i5/i7 to feed the two. What is your processor?

The problem is, not everyone has $1k to drop on hardware when all the other games they play work fine.

This game does run on minimum requirements, but it’s definitely not an enjoyable experience. Not even remotely enjoyable with minimum requirements. WvW/Zergs are out of the question totally unless you can game with 1fps.

Change character animation to low. Also, disable “High Res Textures” as Swordbreaker has already suggested.

Update your motherboard bios to start with, I think there is also a MS hotfix as well. Turn of LLC/Eist/C1 & 2 states in bios (if applicable).

Also check Catalyst Control Center, it also has it’s own overdrive for the processor.

0 problems with the torture test.

As u can see the freq was jumping all the test from 1400mhz to 3900mhz is that normal?

Not normal, known bug/issue with bulldozer processors. They downclock underload. Let me try find a link to fix it.

I had the same prob when I had my BD rig.
