There is no way all the people in a raid are going to be able to wear toughness gear and beat that timer.

Yet most people I’ve pugged with seem convinced they need toughness gear for raids and are geared that way. So DPS is low overall.

Just doesn’t work.

So... dailies...

they just need to roll dailes back to ver.2, i think it was v2.

basically there were a slew of maybe 20 items from:

kill 5 veterans
dodge 10 atks
kill 5 players

but u only needed 5 of the 20 or so for the daily, or something like that if i remember rite

what i did:

i play thru the game to get, levels, boss zergs, just regular exploration, maybe some wvw and pvp in there.

the result:

i usu managed to get the daily w/ regular play w/o specificly “ok now i need to go here and do X” check, “now lets go here and do Y”, check then. zzzzz….. lame because now its a checklist/chore rather than just natural daily u got as u played the game… daily

I also liked previous versions because I could get 1 AP point for each daily I chose to do. I’d like to go back to that, but I’m not hopeful on it. lol

Idea: Raid design to mimick Fractal design

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

I disagree. Raids are not for everybody. If you are not adequately gear for it…farm gear and then go back to it.

See, this is what I thought GW2 was trying to avoid with their original gaming philosophy – not having to deal with a gear grind in order to play content.

And the way the raid is right now, it looks like everyone is going to need multiple sets of gear and runes/sigils in order to match the needs of each individual boss encounter, something that takes gear grinding to a whole new level.

Playing raids is fun. Grinding lots of gear for them? Not so much.

you are not supposed to play a game while watching netflix (on the Ipad). A good game doesn’t require netflix on the side not to keep you bored.

Well, tbh, I wouldn’t need Netflix on the side if I could solo all the Hero Challenges and didn’t have to spend so much time waiting to get into a good map or waiting around for DS to begin.

I basically watch youtube while playing GW2… My country doesn’t have netflix you see… I find it helps me focus when I have more than one thing to focus on :P

That’s great. But my point is, having to do something else because you’re always waiting to play the game you’re playing is bad game design and not something I really want to be doing.

GW2s New Direction

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Catering to only one playstyle has only one direction.
Down.
Straight Down.

IF they really are moving in the direction of catering only to hard-core players, then this isn’t going to end well. One of the reasons for GW2’s explosive success when it launched was its massive content playable by the casual gamer.

Casuals outstrip hard-cores exponentially in nearly every gaming community. They spend plenty of money. Keep the game going. And don’t burn through content in a week. If this were not true, none of the MMOs would have catered to or made adjustments to their games to make them more casual-friendly. Yet nearly all of them did so.

Catering to hard-cores only is not going to work any better for GW2 than it did for Wildstar. So we’d all better hope this isn’t the only direction this game is going or there soon won’t be much of a game (or gaming community) to play with.

LOL, how can’t you get a single bladed coatbox? I got already 4 and salvage the rest. Just LFG and find a full map, it’s super easy. Gives a box every time you kill all 5 bosses which always happens when map is full, even with about 7mins left.

It doesn’t give a box when you kill all 5 bosses. It only gives a guaranteed box when you have T4 at night AND enough participation.

And it’s not “super easy” to get a full map or a full map that finishes to T4. I’ve been on plenty of full maps that didn’t even make it to T3. The LFG may help, but it’s not a guarantee of anything.

It is really not needed anyway.
By the time you finish the skin collections from earning LOTS of currencies from events, you’d be lv161 already.

Why would you assume everyone is completing these collections?

Because I haven’t really spend any currency on Chak/Auric weapon skins and Bladed armor set yet and I’m level 137 already…

My point is, people that aren’t trying to get any of the weapon skins aren’t going to have this as something to gauge their progress by.

They should just put a portal in LA, similar to the one for fractals. It does break a bit of immersion but currently more damage is done by ruining efforts of people trying to work on VB meta.

Well, if we could just walk into the raid area and congregate in there and wait for groups, etc, then it wouldn’t affect VB, would it?

I guess that would be one solution if the location HAS to be in a HoT map.

Considering how hard a time I’ve had the last 3 weeks getting into populated maps where the metas succeed, I have no idea how we’re supposed to get anything done once the population moves on…

Meta events and group Hero Challenges will be something new players and alts coming to the game in the future will never have a chance to get is what I’m worried about.

[Feedback] Guild Halls and Scribing

I am not trying to rag and rant and gripe and complain. This is structured feedback from a guild leader.

Of course you’re not. Why would anyone read your post and think that? Oh, are you talking about the white knights that think anyone who has any feedback other than “Anet is perfect and can do no wrong” will flame you? Don’t worry about them. No one listens to or likes white knights, anyway.

Your post was very organized and coherent and fair. It’s one of the best rundowns of Scribing’s issues that I’ve seen. If these are the requirements at 125, then it stands to reason that 400 Scribing or even higher will be completely ridiculous when it comes to materials and upgrades.

It’s tough even for a large guild, and the small guilds are really hurting. Their “9 months to an upgraded guild hall” is way off base. For some guilds, 9 years is a more likely scenario, which imo, is outrageous, even for a long-term gaming goal.

And I was getting 5-10 of them in a row (like in less than 10 seconds) every time I was in a city. If I switched to another character, even though it’s the SAME account, I’d get another round like I just logged into the game for the first time.

Guild tax idea

In the current system you have people in guilds of variant sizes meticulously tracking contributions. It’s an administrative nightmare.

You’re not constantly telling people “hey it would be great if you could donate X” or having uncomfortable conversations like “I noticed you haven’t really been sending our scribe any shards” etc.

First of all, why would any guild keep track of every little thing or amount of money members are donating? That’s a nightmare people are imposing on themselves and doesn’t really seem necessary.

Second, why would a guild want to harass its members for not “sending our scribe any shards?” That’s just a jerk thing to do.

Guild tax idea

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

I would be ok with something like this under a few conditions.

1: The player, and NOT the guild, determines what/if any they are donating any percentage of -raw gold- income.

Definitely would need things like this. Otherwise, many guilds would tax 50% or more of income, punish members they think aren’t doing enough or giving enough by setting their percentage at 100% until they deem enough punishment has been meted out, guilds would arbitrarily or silently change the amounts while people are playing or distracted and thus leech more gold from them than they realize, etc.

The list of abuses is endless, so all control should belong to the player not the guild.

That’s not at all a problem with the system. That’s a problem with the guild. We used a tax system for years in EVE, everyone did, and when you started trying to shady shenanigans all over it you lost your members pretty darn fast.

As long as it notifies people of changes, it should be fine. We have a system in place that already does that with big giant letters when the guild levels up. Just have it print tax changes. If members are offline, have it send a system mail.

If some guild jacks up your taxes, leave. If you don’t want to pay taxes, join a guild that doesn’t use them.

Seems like a pretty simple and optional system.

Personally, I think the player having control is simpler.

Some people claim they get VB T4 night every single time.

I don’t really understand this discrepancy, but for those of us that almost never see it succeed, it gets to be very old, very fast.

Why did they make Maguma so hard?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

This game has been steadily moving away from relaxing gaming content and becoming increasingly “challenging.” Some of the challenge I would more readily define as “tedious” and not really challenging, but there you go.

That’s why the HoT content is harder than LS2 and LS2 was harder than LS1 and LS1 is harder than the base game. I assume this bar is simply going to keep going up.

And yeah, I don’t like the non-soloable Hero Challenges. Spending time sitting around waiting for help not being fun is something Anet claimed they understood when they created this game. But they seem to have changed theri minds on this.

After all, one of the reasons they didn’t want a trinity was because sitting around waiting for a healer wasn’t “fun.” But apparently sitting around waiting for a group for Hero Challenges no one is doing any longer is “big fun.”

lol No logic.

Yes. But if i don’t like game content i don’t play it, i try another game. Literally you just go to a shop, buy a piece of meat and complain “it is not a candy QQ, add sugar plz”. What the point to play a game based on collecting skins, achievements and relaxed gameplay if you don’t like it?

First and fore-most time waster is the bugs. Last night we were doing Bitter Harvest and attempting the achievements. Long story short. I as the instance owner had to jump off the spinning helix to go forth and clear the second path for the achievement. This how ever didn’t stop you from spinning even whilst gliding. When you land on the ground, you get throw into a wall and stuck with no way to get out. That’s an hour wasted to re-do over.

The Personal Story has always been one of my favorite things on this game, but I’ve had to take a break from the HoT story for a while.

The bugs in some of them are bad, and I don’t enjoy repeating the same instance over and over, hoping to get one without the bug or having to do some workaround because of the bugs. I want to wait to do the majority of the story once it works as it was actually designed to work.

Second thing about the story – I’m doing it with some guildies, but we can only ever get so far where we have to stop because of the mastery blocking. This is really annoying if you’re doing the story with friends (I mean, it’s an MMO, right? Play it with others, right?)

But it’s like they didn’t think through how everyone is going to play the game at different times, for different amounts of time, doing different things, so getting everyone back on the same page because we all earn our masteries at different paces is really hard and is going to more or less wreck the ability to do the story with others for some people.

I find a lot of the story challenging enough that I want to play it with friends, but we keep getting stopped because of the need to go earn our masteries and we don’t earn them at the same rate.

I think because I don’t want to struggle with map finding, don’t find it so fun to play with a map full of strangers, or want to spend 2 hours straight keeping up with same events I’ve already done more than a few times now, all with a decent chance to fail and feel completely unrewarded for the effort I put in because maybe there wasn’t enough people on the map or enough people simply didn’t care.

HoT was just released. I don’t want to be feeling like this yet. :/

I was in Tangled Depths recently and was trying to do the meta. It was on a map I joined because the person advertising said it was an organized map. Just before the meta began, people that were still taxiing in others started saying the map was full. Great. The map’s full, so we should be able to get the meta done.

But it failed. The map was full, but there weren’t enough people doing the meta for it to succeed. So, what happens? People in map chat start blaming and insulting the people that weren’t helping with the meta specifically but that were playing in the map.

I mean, I was doing the meta; I joined this specific map to get it done, but I still don’t think it’s fair some of the things I’m seeing.

People telling others to “get out of the map and go do something else if you’re not going to help with the meta” or telling everyone that’s in the map doing something else, like Hero Challenges or their map completions, that they need to drop everything they’re doing and “come help with this meta event.”

Have you tried making your own LFG group, it fills up in less then a minute.

See you

Actually, this isn’t true for a lot of the dungeon runs. It can be a very long time to get even 2-3 other people and then often enough, we can’t get the final person before the first ones to join decide to leave because waiting around isn’t any fun.

It seems like there’s not much in the way of interest in dungeons any longer from my recent experience.

If you always get a group in less than a minute, that’s great for you, I guess. But this has never happened to me since the dungeon nerf.

Exploring in Heart of Thorns. It’s like when you visit the Louvre without guide and chased by a pack of rabid dogs . Alone or in group , you will not be able to enjoy much.

lol This pretty much describes it for me, too. On most of the previous maps in the game, I feel like I could really take my time and enjoy looking around, checking out the artwork, leisurely getting my map items, doing the DEs I like and skipping the ones I don’t, etc.

HoT maps feel very different. I spend a lot of time killing (or dying) and just trying to survive or running desperately where I want to go to get something I need for map completion. I do a lot more dodging events and overall feel less relaxed. There are less waypoints than on most other maps, and the ones that are there are so often contested, that I feel like a lot of things require a long, annoying slog to get to them.

  • The new maps have killed WvW.
  • Can’t get mastery credit in WvW or PvP.
  • Dungeons have been killed.

WvW being more or less dead in the borderlands is something I really didn’t see coming. Even groups in EB are small compared to what I was seeing pre-HoT. People have said that the numbers will return once people have finished all the HoT content (whatever that means), but the WvWers I’ve talked to mostly don’t think that’s the problem, so they don’t think time will fix it.

I wish I could get mastery XP on my 80s playing in WvW the way I could get skill points doing it pre-HoT and before the skill points from leveling were removed. WvW would be so much more fun if I could play it and simultaneously work on my masteries.

The dungeon thing is sad. I was working on my Dungeon Master title when they killed the dungeons and that was really disappointing.

GW2 is the only MMO I’ve played where they don’t just add new stuff to do in the form of expansions and updates – they actually nerf what’s already there. In other games, the previous content is either left as is for new players or is made easier for them. It generally isn’t altered in such a way as to punish new players or to take away what they had before.
