You can’t use any of the mastery stuff in wvw.
You mean the new legendary weapons won’t be allowed in WvW? I can go along with needing to obtain ingredients for a legendary weapon in all aspects of the game, but why not allow WvW players to generate EXP for that mastery in WvW?
I’ve never heard a good reason for this.
Getting 10k iron ores, 5k platinum ores, and 15k mithril ores.
Wait a minute. Are these the ACTUAL numbers? I haven’t farmed 15K of anything the entire 3 years the game’s been around…
I have to admit that one of the things I like about LOTRO, for instance, is that, while they have multiple races, they don’t require you to play them all in order to fully experience the game.
My favorite is getting yelled at for not helping with META events and people saying HPs should be disabled during them. Well if the HPs didn’t take 4+ people and 20 minutes to gather a group i’m sure people would be more willing to do them at a more convenient time.
Yeah, I believe the map completion items should be soloable. I’ve been camping Hero Challenges, waiting for help, more often than not. Problem is, once the meta is successfully completed, most people seem to move on and do something else on another map and again there isn’t much help to call upon.
How many mastery points are needed to max them out?
I haven’t done the math, so I’m not sure if we needed all available mastery points to reach max or if there is a significant surplus of mastery points available.
I think it came out to 112. I’ll count the remaining mastery points that I have available to earn plus any excess points I’ve already earned when I get home.
EDIT: You have a buffer of 19 mastery point achievements for HoT masteries.
Okay, thanks for doing this.
I’m not asking for a Legendary/[insert rare item here] today. But I don’t want it five months from now, either.
When does waiting becomes waiting for too long? That’s the question. There’s a boundary where the whole experience becomes off-putting.
Yeah, seems reasonable to me. The thing is, from the evidence, it looks like Anet may believe it’s supposed to take far longer. I don’t know what their number is. 6 months? 9 months? A year? Two? Do they have an average?
I simply don't feel inclined to play HoT

Some group of mini dinosaurs: dead.
I’m totally with you on this. I hate those pocket dinosaurs. You can’t hardly outrun them, either. They seem to be everywhere in Auric Basin.
If you have HoT, all you need to do to unlock masteries is reach level 80.
Wait, I’m sorry, you also have to complete the Story: Torn From the Sky. But you don’t have to finish the previous seasons to do it.
(edited by Celtic Lady.3729)
A someone who did not buy HoT, I see remarkably little reason to want to become a late adopter.
I’m curious. Since you didn’t buy HoT, how do you like to spend your time in game?
There are 4 total levels of security, right? I’ve seen Tier 3 a couple of times, but I’ve never seen Tier 4.
Never getting to level 2 is super bad.
shrugs HoT feels plenty challenging to me. I don’t see too many people saying it’s much too easy.
Raids are coming, and they’re sure to be challenging, so maybe wait for that?
Yeah, I’d love some more categories. Right now, the list is so long and it takes time to find what you’re looking for, and a lot of times, the group I want has filled by the time i find it. lol
Organization is good.
You don’t have HoT? I don’t think there are any good ways to make money then.
Only thing I can think of would be to complete multiple world completions on alts because while you do all those hearts and other map items, you kill enemies and get loot.
Of course, it will take several lifetimes to get significant money this way.
It slows down the earning of masteries and attempts to prevent farming.
You know, the F word.

Precursor crafting would be a lot of fun for me if it was more along the lines of a scavenger hunt: do certain events, kill certain mobs, get certain ingredients, etc. I wouldn’t mind a long list of things to do, but for it to be fun for me some things would have to be true:
1. Items from killing certain bosses and mobs would have to be a given – I kill it; I get the item.
2. Events would have to work in such a way that if I participate in the event, then I receive the item or trophy or whatever.
3. Getting items from nodes would involve farming the right item and getting what I need without a lot of guesswork or grind.
4. Materials would have to be in amounts that it wouldn’t feel like a huge grind to do.
I don’t mind a long list of things to do, but I like the rewards to be a sure thing, not something I MIGHT get if I repeat the action dozens of times.
How am I supposed to be leveling masteries?

The Maguuma masteries are far more annoying to me than the Tyria masteries despite the Tyria content being old. There’s just so much more variety in what you can do to level Tyria masteries.
For the Muguuma ones, you can finish your 4 maps and grind through the events on those maps over and over. Or do the maps multiple times on multiple alts. This is all I can think of to do for those. The lack of variety of events just makes this feel longer and grindier to me.
if they were too hard I would just not bother trying for gold. They seem just right for pretty much every one I have tried.
Your tolerance level is different than mine. There are a few that I’ve given up on getting gold from. I might be able to get silver if I devote a lot of hours to it, but I’m not sure I want to do that.
The timers would have to be adjusted on some for me to not feel as though they were too hard.
I’ve been working on the jumping puzzle mastery point in Verdant Brink. On some of the jumps, my wings come out when I don’t want them to and throw off my aim and then I have to start over. It’s kind of getting frustrating.
Anyone else experienced this phenomenon while trying to jump in the jungle maps?
Have you talked to Explorer Loana? She starts the quest chain for this.
You could try the right click consume all option they added for luck.
lol Yeah, he just said that.
I like footprints, too. I wish all the legendaries had them.
Is this new? I didn’t know there were craftable aquabreather parts.
Engineer is my favorite. Necro is my second favorite. Warrior is a close third. I like my Engineer in PvE really well. I like my Necro for WvW. I tend to use everything for PvP based on my mood.
I’ve done both of these again, but neither one will register being done on my map, so I have 2 Hero Challenges in Verdant Brink that won’t update for me.
Oh do NOT make me remember this nightmare……
Yeah, it’s the only dive in the whole core game I haven’t completed yet.
A couple of decent guildies of mine (you know, basically good-hearted, friendly, moral, and hard-working people who therefore make up a decent guild) worked on it for a while but needed a break because it was, you know, frustating.
I have this problem, too. Hero Challenges that I’ve done over and over but the map never reflects it.

Is WoW the only MMO out there that hasn’t gone F2P? I don’t mean free to play to 20 or whatever. I mean, free to play the whole game.
GW2’s F2P seems more restrictive than any I’ve experienced so far.
At least it could be account bound. Having to keep these on all my different characters is just…pointless.
The wallet, of course, would solve the whole thing, though.
this is not a post to improve gw2 its just an " i gotta blow off steam post " that being said after over 3 days trying to get through the aetherblade puzzle to get to the diving spot and still have not done it. who was the sadistic son of a gun that said hey lets make this jumping puzzle a requirement to get a hero point? i am also not trying to make any one mad i just needed to say something and although i am very frustrated i do like GW2 and really appreciate the game. again i just really wanted to release this tension. bless each and every one of you and thank you for allowing me this opportunity to scream
I feel the same way about the diving spot for the Silverwastes jumping puzzle. It’s not that hard to complete, but it’s so long that if you’re not hugely talented at aiming for the itty bitty pool at the bottom and have to repeat the whole puzzle just for another go at it…repeatedly…
Yeah…they say a bit of yoga and deep breathing is good.
Same boat, Have a small guild and tried to get help in lfg and asking larger guilds no dice.
Yeah, same here. Spent some considerable time in LFG asking for volunteers to help us claim our guild hall, but no one answered. Offered 1 g to every person willing to help, but again, nothing.
Was kind of discouraging, actually.

So you want to take away what we have now and lock us up in some dungeon
I admit there are several forum users I would LOVE to lock up in a dungeon.
Probably shouldn’t have said that out loud, though.
I don’t really get the point of this. I have all the crafting professions and they’re all maxed out with most all the recipes. How does this benefit me?
I guess if you take the new Scribe crafting it would be useful. Or if they update jewelry or cooking later.
Can I get the new scribe profession without claiming a guild hall?

it’s reasonable for people to make monetary decisions based on the evidence they have. In this case, the nature of the PvE maps available. People that can reasonably expect more of the same.
On the other hand, if one’s tolerance or preference for challenge is restricted to what was presented in the core game, then it might not be reasonable to buy an expansion which has been advertised as being more challenging. Of course this point is exacerbated by the pre-purchase model.
To be fair, “more challenging” is kind of vague and doesn’t necessarily tell me that specific content (such as completing map items) is going to be so very different from the previous maps, including the ones that were added after launch. I assumed (wrongly when I pre-purchased, in this case) that it meant the enemies would have more challenging AI and the DEs would require more cooperation. It didn’t tell me several other things that I wouldn’t have automatically known from the term “more challenging” and others similar to it.
I don’t really get the point of this. I have all the crafting professions and they’re all maxed out with most all the recipes. How does this benefit me?
Sell the boxes. Don’t buy the keys. You will make money that way. It’s a garbage system.
Pretty much this.

And what of those of us who like the difficulty? Are you suggesting we should stand idly by and let those with grievances suck the fun out of the new zones
The fact that you like the maps the way they are doesn’t invalidate my point that it’s reasonable for people to make monetary decisions based on the evidence they have. In this case, the nature of the PvE maps available. People that can reasonably expect more of the same.
There can be both kinds of content – new content similar to what people experienced when they made the decision to buy this game in the first place and new content that is different and more challenging. It’s a balancing act.
What exactly is abuse of a mentor tag though? Surely just popping one up can’t be considered abuse.
For a lot of people, “abuse” of a mentor tag merely means displaying it when someone else has their commander tag on. I’m hearing about commanders in maps sending whispers to any and all people with their mentor tags on, saying to tag down because they won’t tolerate anyone else on a map tagging up when they’re already tagged.
I’d wager “deserted bordelands” syndrome stems mostly from people wanting to try out the pve and the need to get some guild upgrades from said content to level their scribes and fill out those war room upgrades.
Well, that’s optimistic. Maybe long term you’ll be right. But the WvW people aren’t saying they’re waiting for upgrades in order to play these maps. They’re saying they don’t like the maps at all and therefore are not playing them. If this is true for the majority of them, then it isn’t gonna get better with time.
Wow. That totally sucks.
I mean, everyone makes mistakes, so I’d think they’d want to help you out with that since it’s such a loss of money and mats.

That said, I am in a hurry to recoup lost guild capability, not to have a maximum level guild hall. All I really want is to be able to provide the 3-5 members I rely on most with the same services I offered them in September. That’s not a big ask.
I don’t get it. Why was there a setback that you have to regain at all? Shouldn’t every guild still have everything they had before without redoing it? Sounds like super bad design.
Also, an entirely new PvP mode and WvW map with a lot of new mechanisms there.
Not sure why you’d use the WvW desert borderlands in your argument. Yeah, it’s “new” content, but no one is using it, so those of us that want to really can’t. We’re having trouble adding this to the line-up and it’s through no fault of our own. A better name for them is “deserted borderlands.”
Also, more people would use the guild content if it was more accessible to smaller guilds. Yeah, we can argue ad nauseum about how everyone should be in a 500-member guild or screw you, but the point is, not all the content from HoT is something everyone can necessarily do equally, which makes what is there seem even smaller.
I just wish there weren’t map completion items gated behind the meta events.
I have to do Auric Basin’s event so many times before I get one that succeeds. I shudder to think of trying to do this on all my alts, like I would normally have done.

VB and AB are easy mode, I’ve never failed either of them when there was active map chat
You must be lucky. Auric Basin’s meta event fails regularly on the maps I’ve been in since launch. In fact, it fails more than it succeeds. So, while your experience is nice, it isn’t, by any means, everyone else’s.

People have been farming their XP in places like CoF and gotten a lot of it and no one has done anything to stop this or, to my knowledge, come out and said it shouldn’t be done.
Why would doing the same thing in Maguuma be a problem?
Because the mobs in CoF that people farm does not give any loot. Mushrooms did i think, same as the skelks. Might been different if they did not give any loot, maybe.
Oh, okay. lol I didn’t think about that distinction. Geez. It always comes back to loot obsession for them, doesn’kitten Oh noez! A player might get some loot… lol
Presumably, they’re working on a fix, but since there’s so many bugs in this thing, I suppose it’s taking a while.
My problem isn’t that I have 100% completions in the jungle; it’s that I can’t GET 100% completions in the jungle because several Hero Challenges that I’ve done over and over never register on the map as being complete.
It’s yet another bug they need to fix.

It isn’t surprising if members of a guild with no power and no say in anything from decorations to basic guild decision-making don’t want to donate a lot of money and items to the guild hall.
Nor should they be expected to.
