Of course I would like it if small guilds could keep up with large ones. But therein lies the issue. If you try to cater to smaller guilds larger guilds will take advantage of the system and get just as far in comparison to the smaller guilds as they do now. It’s a very delicate balance. Until I see someone with an amazing system that large guilds can NOT take advantage of in ANY way, I stand by my point.

I’m not really convinced that cutting out small guilds just so large guilds can’t gain any advantage is a very good trade-off. Sometimes, preventing “exploits” is more damaging than the alternative.

They might not nerf the builds that work best for Spirit Vale, but they could always design the future wings to require completely different builds than the ones that work in the first wing.

This isn’t the only game I play. I’d go nuts if it was since I find I regularly need a break from this game due to its design. I also play other MMOs and I play regular single-player games when ones that interest me come out. I even chuckle around with the odd Kindle game.

Aside from that, I also do others things to relax like reading, cooking, working out, etc.

Will you prepurchase next expansion?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Probably not. Once the next expansion comes out I’ll likely take that as my cue to just walk away. Essentially the B2P equivalent of not re-subbing.

I think Anet’s actions have made it painfully clear that I’m not their target demographic. They wanted the WoW audience, like so many other failed developers who were blinded by that big money prospect. However, I am not the WoW audience and I will never be the WoW audience. If I wanted to be playing WoW, I’d be playing WoW. So I see no reason to continue forward once we reach a natural point of divergence.

I don’t want raids. I don’t want obnoxious gear grinds. I don’t want to pay $50-$100 USD for four hours of story content so shallow that the development team recognised it before launch and tried to artificially bulk out the duration with time gates from masteries. I don’t want more time gates in general. I don’t want a game with so many bugs that it feels like it never went through QA. I don’t to play a game designed by people who apparently think endgame translates to “endless grinding”.

I could do this all day but ultimately, as a product, Guild Wars 2 has never been worth the money I’ve sunk into it. There are still things I like, the music is lovely and the visuals are gorgeous. I would even enjoy the story if it weren’t so often handled in a hamfisted, amateurish manner. The potential is there but then it just nosedives straight into the ground.

I’ll stick around for now and continue playing with my friends, but once Anet give me an out, they’ve convinced me I should take it.

The out is just over there points at door you said it yourself your not paying a sub so no reason to feel you have to play if your so against it, that it seems from this post.

I chuckle when I see people feeling the need to critique someone’s post when the whole point of a thread is to answer a simple question. It’s not really a discussion thread.

However, what you have to realize is that a lot of people enjoy parts of the game and dislike other parts. Sometimes there is even content that is a mix of parts they like and don’t like.

I think this is a lot more common that people realize. I’ve read so many forum posts where people seem to think you either absolutely hate the game and everything about it or absolutely love the game and everything about it. The reality is, most people are a mix of the two.

And when you’ve invested considerable time and effort into a game, even if you don’t end up liking an expansion or don’t like the direction a game is going, it’s not a simple thing to write all that off and just leave. A lot of factors come into play that keep people around even when they’re upset about something.

I think TD needs to be adjusted. The margin for error is very unforgiving. I’ve been trying for some time now to see the thing completed a second time, but so far no dice. I just keep racking up maps with failures.

People seem to be tired of trying. It’s really long, the map in general is confusing, takes a lot of coordination, and the failure rate for an open world event involving random people rather than guild members used to working together is too high.

Celtic Lady.3729

At least on my world, WvW is noticeably less busy than it was pre-HoT. People ended up not liking the new desert borderlands maps and simply don’t play on them.

The upside, I guess, is I can get all the new POIs, vistas, etc. without worrying about being killed. The downside is there’s really no one to play with out there.

EB, in my experience, is busier than the borderlands, but even there the numbers are less than they used to be so far.

From what I can tell, a lot of WvWers are very discouraged or annoyed right now due to the unlikeable borderlands, changes to what their guilds had access to pre-HoT and what they don’t have now, difficulty upgrading for WvW, various changes to how upgrading in general works now, the change in reset night, etc. It’s a lot of things really.

The only part of WvW since HoT where I consistently see a good sized group of people is in EOTM where people level, farm karma and other items, and use it to get their Proof of Heroics scrolls.

Masteries are not boring and grindy

Well, this is a matter of opinion. “Grind” is a subjective term and different people have different thresholds for it. What is grindy to one person may not be to another and vice versa.

Since most people at least partially define grind as involving repeating same or similar content over and over, Maguuma masteries, for instance, involve a fair amount of this.

There’s not a lot of variety to 4 maps and often the best way to get the XP for leveling is by repeating these same events on a map and the same meta sequence.

I’ve been doing events for my own XP and even though I try to cycle through all 4 maps in a bid for some variety, it’s already beginning to feel like a bit of a slog.

A) no looking for raid group on the group finder! This is just stupid because even WOW allows you to atomically look for people via the Dungeon Finder!

I think it was stated they did this because they don’t view raids as being PUG content. They want them done by guild-only groups.

Of course, PUGS will eventually do the raids. It’s only a matter of time and their lack of support in the LFG for it isn’t going to change this eventual outcome.

It’s just more inconvenient.

New Legendary Crafting

Celtic Lady.3729

And it costs around 1300g to craft the full precursor ravenswood staff atm because spiritwood already went down to 10g on buy order.

The new pistol pre costs between 350-550g, depending on if you use buy orders or buy directly.

If those are the prices just for the precursors, how much does it cost to make the final legendary?

I cant give you correct numbers atm as gw2bltc.com didnt update the other 3 gifts to craft the legendary but i can give you estimates.

The first gift is the mystic tribute:

  • 250 mystic coins
  • 77 mystic clovers
  • 2 gifts of condensed might
  • 2 gifts of condensed magic

Its basically just like the old gift of fortune with the difference that you dont need a full stack of each fine t6 mat but only 200 and you need an additional 500 each t5 and 100 each t4 and t3 fine mats.

I didnt calculate but i would estimate that the price for the 50 t6 mats you need less equals the value of the t3-t5 mats needed. I attached a screenshot of the shopping list for the old gift of fortune, which is about 600g atm. But that shopping list doesnt consider all the mats you get back while forging mystic clovers, so the overall costs will probably be more like 400g. But for the new legendaries, you also need to buy 8 new recipes, at least for the first one you craft, which are 10g each, so lets say mystic tribute will cost around 500g, plus 480k karma (unless you farm your obsi shards another way) and 136 spirit shards.

The 3rd thing you need is the gift of maguuma mastery:

  • Gift of maguuma (map completion in all 4 new maps)
  • Gift of insights (masteries maxed, plus 800 each new map currency and 3g)
  • Bloodstone shard (200 spirit shards)
  • 250 crystalline ingot (shopping list in 2nd attachment, 250g worth of tradeable mats and a bunch of account bound mats, 250 each obsi shards, ley line sparks, auric dust, airship oil and crystalline ore)

The last forge ingredient is gift of nevermore:
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gift_of_Nevermore

  • Gift of the mist (250 each shards of glory and memories of battle, (would cost 50g on tp atm), 500 badges of honor, 1 ball of dark energy (salvaged from asc gear) and 75 stabilizing matrixes (30g)
  • 100 icy runestones (100g) vendor
  • gift of the raven spirit (10g) vendor

The last ingredient is unknown but for the new legendary pistol HOPE its gift of wood, which would be another 120g for the mats and 10g for the recipe, if yo udont have it yet.

So thats about 1.1k gold in tradeable mats for the other gifts, 2.4k gold for the whole legendary atm. which is quite in line with old popular 2h legendaries.

Thank you for posting this summary. 2,400 gold is less than I figured it would be. I mean, it’s still a lot of gold, but it’s not as bad as I was thinking. I really like the look of the pistol and this helps give me an idea of what is involved in the new legendary process.

I can see how players from most other MMOs coming to GW2 would notice a lower reward system. I played several other MMOs before GW2 and found a bit of culture shock here.

I make way less money overall in GW2 than I did in all my other MMOs. In fact, I never had trouble making all the money I wanted in other games. But GW2 is different. It doesn’t work the same here, so I noticed a distinct difference.

At first, realizing that I wouldn’t be able to make money the way I was used to was not much fun. I guess you could say that, over the years, I’ve gotten used to it.

What has happened to your manifesto!?

Maguuma masteries, which must be gotten by playing only on 4 maps, does feel pretty dang grindy to me.

I mean, there’s just only so many times that I can be dazzled by Faren’s swordmastery in a loincloth before it’s, you know…can we skip all the events and go straight to the part where I toss him in the chopper and be done with it?

I’m still trying to get speed mushrooms and advanced gliding, for crying in the bucket!

But I digress. I feel like, given the design decisions they went with for HoT, they really didn’t have much of a choice than to come up with some major slowing of content consumption, and grinding out masteries does this fairly well. At least, it has for me.

laughing too much

MMO simply means a lot of people are all playing the game online simultaneously and usually includes a certain amount of content that is designed to be done in groups.

It doesn’t mean everyone all does the exact same things at the exact same times in the exact same ways.

Although, now that I think about it, if it DID mean that and everyone WAS all doing the same things I am at the same time and the way I like to do them, this game would be a LOT easier and I’d have a LOT higher AP score.

So, if you’re volunteering for this…see me in-game.

So, just out of curiosity, how long do you think it will be before crafting material prices come down and it would be more reasonable to consider making a precursor?

2. Yes, many believe that her death could have been much, much better. Her death did not have meaning. The creature was not killed, it did not save any lives, and it did not help them escape. She also did not go down fighting like a legend. It also doesn’t matter if she comes back as a druid. This was her chance to die as a legend (even if she comes back, she is only going to die once).

There are several ways the scene could have gone that would have drawn less complaints. For example, they could have shown a scene where Eir dodges one strike in great pain. Next, the creature knocks Brahm down. The creature raises its tail and begins to strike to finish Brahm off when Eir dodges in front of the tail just in time, giving her life to save her Brahm.

Anything, ANYTHING at all where she at least made an attempt to fight rather than stare at the creature and appear to have given up would have been better. She should have gone down fighting, injured or not. She was a legend. A Norn. This is how it would have been.

I thought it was to give players a non-RNG way to obtain them, but since RNG is part of the collections, that’s not really it, either.

Okay I’m curious about this. RNG how? I’ve only finished the first two stages of Leaf of Kudzu so far, so my experience is limited.

The bit of RNG that’s in mine is not the kind of RNG referred to when people get a precursor. For example, there was a drop I needed from the Vinewrath which took me three tries to get. Yes it’s RNG, but it’s extremely doable RNG. It’s not like I can play for three years and do this event and never get it…unless I think it’s not.

Is there an RNG further in that I’m not aware of?

Well, for instance, a friend of mine is also crafting the precursor for Kudzu. He’s on the 3rd collection and can’t get the compost item from opening seed pouches. He’s opened hundreds of them and no luck, so he’s feeling he’ll never get this precursor.

Another friend of mine is working on the Legend, but can’t get the Shatterer to encase her in crystal.

A guild member is crafting Spark and can’t get any nickel ore despite weeks of farming for it now.

I could go on, but I think this explains why I made the statement I did.

People here seem to think it IS soloable and maybe if you are geared up to the teeth in a none squishy proff with a shed load of excess teenagne energy to invest on having to be Raid style focused just to mosey around a map then yes – but les be honest – most of us are over 20 have jobs, commitments and do NOT want to have to be totally ‘on’ at all times – there should have been at least 1 relaxed map.

Yeah, that’s great, but I’ve still seen it fail numerous times with 3 comms, a full map (when the end event starts), explanations, and plenty of time on the clock. There are other variables than these that come into play and can cause what starts out as a promising map to end in failure.

Which is one of the reasons I’ve seen so little in the way of success. So far. Maybe it’ll get better as time goes by. Assuming people end up continuing to do it.

How were your groups doing the blighting tower event?

Most of the time we try to have a smallish group with a separate comm/apple at the middle boss while the larger zerg runs around the outer circle, killing the preservers continuously once the pods are destroyed.

This area in particular seems to be the sticking point of the majority of the maps I get into.
