I would say no, but then, the WvW action on my world has gone down drastically since HoT came out and the numbers seem to keep dropping.
I crafted my ascended gear, but it was pretty pricey and took a while to do.
Exotics are easier to get – craft or purchase on the TP for a bit of gold, and they have good enough stats to play most content with.
Or, as you said, get them in WvW.
Might surprise you to know that a vast portion of the gaming community do not go on or follow forums. I do because I don’t work and so I have time to play and read what the devs say and they do say a lot.
That is an opinion only and there is no way to back it up. I could just as easily say ‘It might surprise you to know that the vast portion of the original community do not go on or follow the forums because they have quit’. No way to prove your assertion or mine, so both are irrelevant. One could be described as a typical white knight post, the other as a hater post.
And yes the devs do have a lot to say, just not here.
Don’t they usually post on Reddit these days instead of here?

Not even 30 minutes ago, I was told in map chat that I should never breed, all because I had the audacity to tell somebody that their idea of mounts with passive speed boosts in the gem store was not a good idea. Most people would be influenced to consider thoughts of self harm, or would foolishly believe that they really shouldn’t breed.
I very seriously doubt that “most people” would consider any of these options.
I mean, I like to think the game developers don’t think GW2 is like “a B-list” kind of game. It’s not just another free MMO in the masses. It’s decently popular and normally highly recommended! So… why does it feel so shoddily put together?
Parts of the game have felt different to me since the whole F2P thing. I’ve never played a game that wasn’t F2P then became F2P that didn’t fundamentally change in its philosophy and design. Even games where the fanboys and girls insisted the game would never change did. It might not have been the day F2P came out or a week or month later, but eventually it happened. To all of them.
I just don’t like what I see when B2P or sub games go F2P. It doesn’t feel or play the same.
I’m guessing that just about any MMO that feels new and has never been played before by a given person is going to have its honeymoon stage.
I agree with those that have said you prolly need to play WoW longer before you can really make a fair comparison.
I’ve unlocked full elite specs on all of the previous 8 professions and have my rev partially unlocked now.
The reason? I wanted to be able to see the new specs on all my characters and I had the points to do it.
It’s a real pain, but the key is to get into a map that’s full before it completely fills up and you get stuck in a map with a low pop that isn’t even doing the events.
If you don’t make a full-ish map and are thrown into one that isn’t doing the events, then you have to wait another 2 hours to try again.
Certain times of the day have the maps filling faster than others, so peak times can be hard for getting into a map fast enough.
To me “end game” means that there is an end and the game is over when you are done doing x quest or event. Since this game has no end and it keeps going I don’t see what you are asking.
As for what I do every day online? A little PvE or WvW, I may get into PvP at some point but I still have so much to do in PvE that I don’t have time for any other mode at the moment.
“Endgame” in MMOs has never referred to a final quest and then the whole game is over and no one plays it any more. “Endgame” usually refers to the body of activities one does in an MMO once they finish the leveling content.
He states that no collection item should be gated behind failing events.
Great.
So then why was this ever done in the first place?
Since they had changed the last story mission to be soloable a while back, I decided to finally get over to it and finish it with another character of mine.
Say what you will of the actual mission of killing Zhaitan, at least that mission had a good closure and afterparty (with the vocal version of Fear not the night playing in the end) with most of the Personal Story NPCs there celebrating with you. Sent shivers down my spine, really.
Compare that to the Mordremoth killing and… yeah.
I like the ending of the Personal Story, too. The song, the party, the walk-in by our characters front and center…it’s good.
In HoT, even though it appears that we kill Mordremoth and achieve our goals, there’s no epic feel to it for me. If Mordremoth is truly dead, we should take a moment to celebrate that huge victory, sing the songs of the valor of those that died, and commemorate the occasion.
I remember the Funcom Exec who was brought on to turn AoC around saying something like, “Our surveys and demographics tell us that while players may ask for and play hard content until they get what they want from it, what they tend to repeat over and over is the easier content.”
All of this stuff is interrelated. I’m not sure there’s an easy fix to it. I’m pretty sure that if they tried, they’d basically be starting over. There’s also the issue of, if they do try to fix “it,” they might create other problems. Let’s not forget that the design of HoT evolved out of their attempts to fix perceived problems with the vanilla game design.
Yeah, there never is an easy fix for most sizeable problems, eh? And MMOs are complicated creatures.
I find the quote interesting. Their results don’t surprise me at all. A game needs that “easier content” that draws people back long-term. And this includes new easier content not just constantly replaying years old stuff.
Another major benefit is that the content will be done when it most likely has huge population decreases in future expansions. One of the major reasons that Core Tyria world events are still completed is mainly because they’re a lot easier then Maguuma. So those will always be the easy ones. However, if the introduce another expansion with world events that are equally as hard as Maguuma…I don’t see the populations in Maguuma doing well for itself. So having a proper scaling design will greatly help anyone who decides to actually play these zones in the future.
Yeah, I worry about the HoT maps’ sustainablity long-term as they operate now. And I agree about AFKers. Those rewards you get every time a new stage of the meta kicks in depending on your participation? They’re nice, but they don’t help with the AFK thing since you get these whether you’ve recently done an event or not.
Interestingly, before HoT, I never once saw anyone pitching fits in map chats about people doing other things on the core maps than the meta or the bigger events. (Not talking about AFKing here.)
I suspect a lot of this bad behavior is due to how often metas in HoT fail. I mean, it’s still not an excuse, but it’s not helping.
For some reason this whole topic makes me laugh out loud.
If you are laughing at this topic then you are either insensitive or have partaken in actions that these poor folks are describing… either way I suggest you look up the definition of empathy.
you are exactly the type that make me laugh. prejudice and idiotic statements about people you NEVER (and never will) have met and know nothing about.
He’s right. Your comment was rude, insensitive, and totally unnecessary.
grow some skin, getting a comment without anything but a statement about something makes people feel attacked on a internet forum? that makes me laugh too. very much so. Instead of giving judgement about the post, one could wonder about the why how and what. But noooooo the kitten people of gw2 do not do that, instead they feel like snowflakes in an avalanche.
Yeah…I have no idea what you’re trying to say here.
The only thing I “wonder” is how someone can get their kicks and giggles out of laughing at someone else’s distress, even online.
But then, there are things in this world that I do NOT want to understand. This is basically one of them.
I’m pretty sure not even new player click their skills.
Depends on the new player. I know quite a few, both new and old players, that still click their skills.
…picking 6 cheap things to give away…
Yeah, don’t make it memorable or anything. lol

I sometimes feel there is a passive-aggression to the fan club mentality.
Yeah, really. Or they ride into a thread on their white horses, waving their Crusade banners, and beating us all over the heads with their Good Books.
I don’t really respond well to the whole “Convert or Die!” approach.
Wow.
That so totally sucks.
This failure thing they have going on. It seriously needs to go.

I, personally, find complaints interesting (even the rude ones!), as I feel they shed light on possible issues and hold the most sincerity.
So do I. Honestly, I’d rather wade through a thousand complaint posts than read a handful of ones BSing about how Anet can do no wrong.
No disrespect to Anet, of course.
Approximately 5,000 gold. That’s what someone said they spent to level up Scribing recently.
Wood log farming is really good but gets boring after a few days.
lol I bet it does.
15k+ AP, full set of Ascended Berserker Gear, that MUST be pinged to squad leader before he even CONSIDERS you to be apart of the party.
Such nonsense.
I ping for no man.
I mean if you need something from the Meta event, why not help? Why go off and do something else? The issue is that when one person does this, that’s not that bad. However if a pretty sizable portion does this, then it creates problems. Because then you don’t have enough people doing the Meta.
However, the main target of that statement of mine are those who go afk during the metas or go and “hide”. Usually I find 5-10 who are just chilling inside the map waiting to see if it will be completed. Not doing anything excepting afking.
Well, my main problem with this attitude that no one can play how they want during a meta is it doesn’t take into consideration people that don’t have a long time to play and don’t necessarily want to spend that time doing a meta they may have already done enough times to be sick of it. Maybe they don’t “need” anything from the meta.
Or a meta that fails more than it succeeds and so wastes their short playing time.
Or any of a dozen other valid reasons for wanting to have the freedom to choose what they want to do with their own gaming time.
The problem lies not with the player. The problem lies with the scaling of a meta that does not adjust itself to the number of people actually doing it.
I’m guessing the OP was stockpiling Giant Eyes or something.
That’d be my guess.
Yeah, my money’s on this one, too.

Even with most players logging in, I bet their gem store purchases have dropped.
Maybe they have. Maybe that’s why new outfits are 2850 gems. To make up for the lost revenue by having to sell less but get the same amount of profit.
Preorder only gave a small window into HoT.
It didn’t warn us that WvW would be decimated, dungeons abandoned, small guilds kicked to the curb, loot nerfed, etc, etc, etc
Just take a look at the quote on the purchase page! =)
Quote: “Experience combat on an epic scale in our new World vs. World’s Borderlands map.”
It’s curious that the wording is so specific. Has anyone seen anyone on the new maps? I think I saw three on at once… but it could be less epic, I guess.
Well, I guess it could be epic if there were enough people playing on it. Right now, it’s just epic in its emptiness.
OMG! I could totes write 10 posts about how epic a failure WvW is since HoT!
smirks
omg, didnt you read the old sticky?!
I don’t get it. Make a new thread. Post in the old thread. Why is this a big deal?
I mean, who really cares which one it is?
I remember when lots of Skill Challenges used to be bugged. At one point early on after launch, I had dozens of maps waiting to be finished since they all required bugged-out SPs. lol
I would love for them to be account-bound.
That’s OK. For some white knights ANet could sell an expansion with absolutely nothing in it for $100 and they would still defend an love it.
That’s the problem, Anet actually thinks everything is ok because these small group are here constantly defending them. Meanwhile the majority of players hate it and Anet is oblivious to it. Not even a “guys we kittened up” and try to fix it…Anet is so blind sometimes.
Small group? Source please, fact is forum is the small group. Official forum only contain small minority of people, most people does not go here because 1. they having more fun playing the game than complaining on forum. 2. Forum has an extremely bad reputation in GW2 player base and people knows not to come here.
3. They didn’t like (XYZ) so they quietly quit and never stopped by the forums at all.
Remember MMO=Massively Multiplayer Online , it wasn’t designed to do things solo . P
This is so demonstrably untrue that I can’t even believe you actually said this in public. I could fill up 10 posts with evidence that huge sections of just about every MMO out there has solo content – and it was designed to be solo.
This statement is blatantly and embarrassingly false.
The OP is just clueless as to what an MMO actually means.
OP just thinks MMO = must group up with others – which is just his own stupidity, no need to take it too seriously one day he will understand… perhaps.
Yeah, and he isn’t the only one. Just about every time someone posts about the difficulty levels in HoT, you get this answer – it’s an MMO, therefore it’s not intended to be soloed. And they usually don’t qualify if by adding something like parts of it aren’t designed to be soloed.

If you crash at DS just use 64 bit client. Dev respond more often on reddit because people there are not raging mobs who trying to burn down castle Arena net.
Are you saying that Reddit has zero negativity? GW2 Reddit posters never express concerns? Is that it?
And if Reddit is a naturally superior venue for comments and communication, why don’t they simply close down these forums, save the money it costs to moderate it, and use that exclusively?
Reddit does have negativity of course, but there are also positivity. Player help each other, guide, news, shout out, fan art. This place is pages of complaining after complaining, nothing good ever comes out of here.
Oh, come on. There are always threads from people thanking Anet and expressing their pleasure with the game. Plus, players do answer each other’s questions here and help one another. The only thing you mentioned that I don’t see a lot of on here is the fan art.

Well, i agree 100% with OP. There’s nothing more to add really…exceeeept for one thing :
“leeches”.They’re not really leeches, they’re the ones that want their HP points or some event done so they can enter and finish map completion. It’s very understandable, and it shows how badly the setup in HoT really is. TD being the worst map ever designed.
For the rest, you hit the nail right on the spot.
Yeah, no kidding. People playing the content that’s there and completing maps are not leeches. That’s just ridiculous.
Though there are still chest farms, it seems like since HoT, there are less of them and the ones that run open less chests overall than before in one run.
Anet should just mail you whatever gear you want, no work required. Have fun with Dress up Wars 2
You’re right. Not particularly liking the 2-hour timer schedule of HoT meta events means that we all just want this.
Makes totally logical sense.
SMH
1) The new HoT guild system seems to encourages players to join big guilds for the benefits.
I do feel like the scribing and guild hall upgrading systems are intended to “encourage” the joining of large guilds and the abandonment of small guilds, yeah.
Basically, it is in the interest of non-sub games to make their content, or at least their most in-game currency profitable content, so unenjoyable that you will pay to skip it.
Yeah, this seems extremely common in non-sub and even hybrid-sub games. I see these games making the grind in their gaming activities painful enough that you’ll buy items in their stores to relieve the pain of the grind. GW2 seems to limit gold acquisition to accomplish the same thing other F2P games do with items like accelerators, for instance.
F2P and B2P games are terrific, but there’s definitely a trade-off. Usually found in the design of the grind and its relationship to in-store offerings and/or controlling rewards and currency acquisition.
Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729
Sometimes, it feels like GW2 is using a goal of each major content addition or expansion(now) steadily becoming more challenging. If it continues, I can’t imagine that more and more casual/relaxed playstyle gamers won’t reach a “wall,” if you will, at which the challenge has become more than they’re looking for.
Since the game was heavily marketed to casual/relaxed players, the continued raising of the bar on difficulty will slowly weed out more and more of the original playerbase (and also new players that liked the more casual approach of the core game.)
Maybe this will work out for them, but I’m worried that what it will actually do is whittle the playerbase down to a more niche and less sustainable number.
The TD meta has a 2 hour cooldown before it begins again, and my latest attempt at it lasted for 8 minutes and 18 seconds. I hadn’t even finished the first song in my music playlist before the event failed.
So much for ArenaNet’s “No waiting to have fun.” statements. I hate how the devs aren’t bothered with commenting with their thoughts on the event, yet they’re willing to throw out whole blog posts about e-sports, which only 1%-2% of the community actually enter and take part in.
Um, you CHOSE to wait for this event so blaming Anet for you deciding to wait is nonsense. If you knew it was going to start in 2 hours, why didn’t you go do something else … oh right, because it would have been a less awesome QQ thread if you did that.
Before you rebut, do realize you need 150%+ participation to get anything from the Meta.
TD has very few events after the Meta chain is finished. Also there’s almost no possibility of coming back into the same map if you leave an organized map.
I can take a good guess. You never beat Chak Gerent before. That’s why you can sprout out some NS like this.
What does that have to do with the OP complaining about waiting? If he’s just waiting around, he’s not getting his 150% partricipation.
Sure, you can. I’ve done plenty of waiting around with 200% participation.
T1 does have its drawbacks and is even quiet sometimes but I cannot imagine what it must be like in T3 and below right now.
It’s discouragingly quiet.
It’s not the problem of HPs. It’s the problem of metaevents being designed with the assumption that whole map is doing them. If something needs to be changed, it’s the scaling of metaevents, not HPs – especially since we can’t be relying on having full maps in the future.
This. You can’t tell people how to spend their gaming time and it’s beyond rude to even try. I’m so sick of seeing people throwing temper tantrums in map chat because someone wants to do a Hero Challenge with their gaming time.
If every last person in a map needs to be doing the meta for it to even have a chance of succeeding, then that is very poor and foolish game design. Some people have limited time to play as it is. Forcing them to do something just because YOU are doing it and want to get it done is…just unbelievable.
If a player wants to work on their maps and not do the meta, they should have that choice.
Yeah, I think we should have the option of deleting people from our followers list if we choose.

This is an overly simplistic way of viewing it. Getting into a good, organized, and full map for something like the Chak Gerent very often has to be done 1 to 1 and a half hours prior to the event beginning.
Getting people counted up and into their respective lanes, making explanations, organizing groups, and having everyone and everything in place for a serious attempt does, in short, usually involve waiting.
Fail perfected: doing the exact same thing in a HoT map.
lol No kidding, right?

As long as you got my point and keep the bs about stuff you COULD do to yourself

You have no idea what I’m capable of doing or not doing. Claiming you know what I can or can’t do is even more BS.
I don’t know if this is a bug. I thought they said they fixed that earlier, but I still get tossed into emptier maps regularly.
It would be nice if it were possible to be shuttled into a fuller map, not an emptier one….
So much for ArenaNet’s “No waiting to have fun.” statements.
This simply isn’t true any longer since several sections of HoT involve a lot of waiting around for most people. If you need to be in a full map ahead of time for a given event, waiting is required. If you need a DS map event and there’s 30 minutes left on the clock, you gotta wait for it. If you finish events ahead of time but still want to do the meta, you have waiting involved. If you need help with a Hero Challenge, and no one answers your ads, you generally wait for help to come along.
There’s a fair amount of waiting designed into the game now.

most of those things are bs
