Maybe they should have made the journey more of a journey and less of a
material / gold grind
If so few players have legendaries (which is really weird to swallow because I see them everywhere I go) that they want to can the new system because no one will play the content, then why not make the content more accessible? And why did they even go down this road if they knew so few people were playing the content in the first place? They would have had numbers on legendaries for a looooong time now.
like what my Sylvari Necro says when his pets die which still makes me giggle.
I love my asura Necro.
“Good thing I didn’t name THAT one!”
Just kills me every time. lol
I think he made a lot of good points and I hope Mike watches the whole thing if he gets the chance.
I think it’s pretty worrying that they’d prefer to cancel something that people were promised (Legendaries) instead of pulling some of the 70 people working on the next expansion (which doesn’t have a set release date) in order to make sure everything was shipped properly.
It makes it seem like the next expansion is more important to them than making sure their core game is working, we have enough content and everything is balanced.
Why are they working on a new xpac so soon ( i get that it takes a long while) but i would think (the first 6 months to maybe 1 year)working on the content updates and finishing those first would be a priority. and then reflecting back on what worked and what didn’t and designing better things would be the way to go.
Yeah, I really agree with you on this. It just doesn’t make any sense to me to start a new expansion when the previous one still needs so much work…
It is the most flawless game in the world at the moment.
I disagree with this statement, but since statements like this are purely subjective, I suppose it’s neither here nor there.
Let’s see…treacherous…suffer…what are you doing? Writing a soap opera? lol
Aren’t you the same one who thinks I’m drunk and can’t communicate with people ever because I used a bad analogy? lol
lol Yeah, I did wonder if you were drunk after a couple of your posts. I know some people like to drink a lot in the evenings and go online and whatever comes out of the keyboard comes out. lol
Maybe we’re both not communicating well on this topic for whatever reason. I dunno. Seems to be some disconnect on this subject. I really am baffled.
You left everything in your one-piece? You don’t own very much, do you?
On one hand, I show the company my displeasure by requesting a refund on HoT for legendary weapons being less than advertised on the principles of getting what I paid for.
A legit “This was false advertising and I won’t accept MO’s platitudes!” kinda guy.
On the other hand, I don’t request a refund because I like all the virtual stuff and goodies the account has that is run by the very same people I feel are treacherous and dishonest.
If I put myself in the “I’m waiting for them to say something or right this perceived wrong” camp, I guess I can understand waiting at this point.
But if you have strong feelings in this situation and you still elect to suffer through what you believe are treacherous and dishonest people?
For the sake of virtual goods you have no quarter over? Ultimately controlled by the very same people you believe are treacherous and dishonest?
You may have a problem. And I wish you the best in sorting out that dichotomy.
Let’s see…treacherous…suffer…what are you doing? Writing a soap opera? lol I don’t really see what’s so hard to understand. You seem to live in some kind of black-and-white world where if you’re unhappy with something you end the relationship.
Life is not black-and-white. People don’t necessarily end business relationships because they run into a problem. A lot of times, people try to resolve those problems in a less drastic way than a complete write-off. Even when they feel strongly about the problem. Especially if they feel strongly about the problem.
I don’t get why this is hard to understand. It’s like you can’t understand a situation unless it’s overly simplified first. Life is messy and complicated. There are usually more solutions than “I’m taking my Barbies and going home.”
If you feel strongly enough to request a refund for the sake of HoT legendary weps but loves you that core GW2, make a free account after the fact?
/shrug
Because he doesn’t want to lose his characters, the gem store items he’s bought for them, etc, etc? Those would be good reasons not to want to start over with a free account.
I’ve seen plenty of MMOs die faster than GW2. Wildstar, ESO, Archeage…the list goes on.
Yeah, at least Archeage, like its sister game Rift, isn’t completely dead, exactly, but they are now really small, really niche games. If there’s one thing I’ve learned in MMOs, it’s that it doesn’t appear to take a lot of money or players to keep one running on a small scale. A lot of games are still going, but they’re doing so with small populations. I guess if it comes to it, GW2 can do the same thing – run its game on a small scale for a small population.
Unlike WoW which is subscription based, GW2 is pay per game with no sub fees.
And you have already bought the game so why the kitten Arenanet cares if you threaten to quit ??..LOL
They care because to keep their company running they need more than just a one-time first-player box purchase. They need repeat players to keep logging on and buying items from their gem store. They need players to keep logging on and buy their expansions.
And while you’re at it, make the new precursors and legendaries account bound on acquire. For the old ones it’s too late anyways.
RNG dropped precursors can’t and shouldn’t be account bound because if any of my characters get a precursor long bow drop, it’s entirely worthless, might as well give me rocks. That’s why RNG drops, the TP and it’s usage fees are all interconnected. You need to be able to turn some drop that isn’t useful to you into something that is.
Now Legendaries, oh yeah, they never should have been on the TP.
Yeah, I think precursors should always be tradeable, but I have no problem with the actual legendary being account-bound.
In retrospect, knowing now the issues they were having finishing content for this expansion, it suddenly makes a lot more sense why they were in such a hurry to get people to buy it before they had to admit how little was in it.
I did think that they rather exaggerated some aspects of their content before release. For instance, I didn’t find the maps to be quite what it sounded like it was going to be. Four maps, all three levels. In reality, the only map that felt truly three levels to me was VB. And even then, the canopy level was minimal because it was mostly air and empty space. Most of the maps, at best, feel like two levels to me or maybe more like one and a half levels.
Anyway, HoT always felt like a very small expansion or a large content update to me. I figure the next expansion will be similar in size or smaller since they won’t have all the “systems” to add that they added with HoT since they’re already implemented.
VB – 3 layers, but you’ll spend 70% of the time on just the 2 lower ones
Basin – Only Topmost layer is at the entrance from VB, then some small spots(maybe?) around the rest of the map. The lowest layer is under the city, which isn’t that big compared to the rest of the map.
Tangled Depths – Yes, up to 4 layers. Pretty much fits what they talked about.
Dragon’s stand – one layer, with some underground caves based on events. Other than that, a dead zone unless you are doing the meta.
Man, I really wish DS had been a more traditional map. Trying to get 100% completion on that thing lately has been really frustrating. I don’t want to do the DS fight anymore. I just want to finish my map.
Then the player doesn’t feel as strongly about the subject as the bluster might indicate.
This doesn’t even make sense. There is no logic to the idea that we as players don’t feel strongly about their decision unless we’re willing to permanently trash our accounts.
lol whut?
If we wanted to just walk away from the game, we wouldn’t bother to express our desire to see them keep their word and give us what we paid for. You’re just not making sense here.

All you can do to make them hear your dissatisfaction is stop playing the game or stop buying gems. If they can go as far as to not deliver things they actually got paid to do then there is little hope that they actually care bout anything else than money.
This isn’t necessarily true. I was here in the thick of it for the HoT package pricing protest (hey, that’s kinda catchy). Those of us that thought the packages should be organized differently and include things it didn’t came to the forums and Reddit and expressed our views (like a lot of us are doing now) and they apologized and changed their packages.
Sometimes, expressing your opinion about something they’ve done actually gets results.
Besides, you can’t get “recourse” as you call it if you want to keep your account, so that’s not an option for everyone.
Sure you can. What does it matter if you feel you can’t trust them and you’ve been cheated? Just take your business elsewhere.
If you can’t accept what they’re trying to do and you feel irreversibly wronged, why continue with them?
It’s already been stated by Anet that if you want a refund or partial refund for HoT, they’ll close your account. If a player doesn’t want the account closed, they’re not going to try to get a refund.
OK. They’re not denying anyone recourse. If you feel that strongly about it, you can pursue it.
I shouldn’t have to. They should be giving customers what they paid for.
Besides, you can’t get “recourse” as you call it if you want to keep your account, so that’s not an option for everyone.
Edit: and I don’t say this just ‘cause I’ll be charging MH commission for all the stuff that gets left for him.
Oh, I see how it is…
Things change.
Things changing BEFORE money has been paid and taken = okay
Things changing AFTER money has been paid and taken for it = not okay.
Change itself really isn’t the problem here.
As a person who does not care about Legendary stuff at all, I really don’t see what all the fuss is about.
It’s not so much WHAT they decided to scrap as it is the fact that content people paid for got scrapped. I would still want what I paid for if it was something else, like specializations or the revenant class or gliding or anything else they had said was part of the purchase price for HoT but then didn’t deliver.
But you know? You are right about the legendary weapons. Indeed, they broke their word on being able to offer 16 new legendary weapons.
You know, kind of the same way a parent may break their promise in getting their kid the number of clementines they requested.
“Sorry sweety, you asked for 16 but I could only get you 4, I’m thinking we need to invest in more foodstap—”
“THEN I WILL BURN DOWN OUR HOME AND CURSE YOUR EXISTENCE”It’s not a good analogy. A parent/child relationship is not even remotely similar to a business/consumer relationship.
Comparing apples and oranges here.
Yes, literally.
But if the best you have for me is to tell me my analogy sucks, we agree. My analogy sucks. I’m trying to convey a point, not be Shakespeare.
True, that analogy sucks. This one is better:
Anet: Hey guys, if we don’t realign our resources to deliver high value content to you, this whole thing you know as GW2 won’t exist in a few short years.
Ok, before you say it, that’s not an analogy but it is true.
So, you think that GW2 is flirting with bankruptcy, and that’s why they’ve decided not to deliver all their HoT content?
But you know? You are right about the legendary weapons. Indeed, they broke their word on being able to offer 16 new legendary weapons.

The point is, your analogy does not, in fact, actually make any kind of a logical point. It’s not a matter of eloquence. It’s a matter of logic and the ability to actually communicate.
But you know? You are right about the legendary weapons. Indeed, they broke their word on being able to offer 16 new legendary weapons.

I personally just see it as an emotional response to a tough call MO may have had to make.
This seems a tad condescending. I don’t see people wanting to receive what they paid for as purely “emotional.” I see wanting what you paid for as being fairly reasonable.
Nothing this severe in my memory.
Personally, I thought the great blowouts over the HoT pricing packages and, before that, ascended gear were way worse than this one.
It’s about time! lol
I never understood why orders that are impossible to buy are still on the TP.
Well, I really didn’t find ANY professions challenging to level, tbh. PvE leveling is easy for me no matter what I’m playing.
Now, if you’d asked which professions are challenging to PvP with, that’d be a different story…
Really?
6 months ago, I read plenty of complaint threads.
It’s the nature of game forums.
If you want to know what the current upset is, however, it’s the announcement that new legendary weapons are being canceled indefinitely.
(Yes indeed my salt levels could petrify a blue whale within seconds by a mere touch, im aware of it, no need to tell me)
LOL Too funny.
Unlike a lot of forum users, salty people don’t bother me.
Life would be bland without a lil salt.
I wish it performed on the lowest tier of salvaging. Then, I wouldn’t receive all those Sigils and Runes.
That is the annoying part.
A surprising number of players I know have this.
Including myself. LOL
It’s about convenience for me.
How many more were you expecting?
Just the 16 that they promised us.
Alright.
“Man, why isn’t Anet ever transparent with us?! If they would just tell us what they’re doing people won’t get so mad about things chang—lolnvmlegendariesrsrsbsnss BURN THE WITCHES”
Was there a point to this quote or are you just drunk?
It’s over your head. You can get back to being mad.
Going with drunk then.
And now, a Haiku on my Ranger:
I love my Ranger —
Going Druid is so strong
My nature ninja.<3
There really is nothing more positive than a good haiku…

The owner of the WvW guild started whispering to me saying I should be representing them because I was in WvW. Threatening to kick me from the guild for doing WvW and not representing, saying he was asking me nicely(threatening to kick is a very nice way to ask.)
I don’t do threats.
Ever.
I’m no one’s whipping girl.
Yeah, I don’t really expect the April update to solve anything, honestly. I don’t know the list of things for it, but I’m guessing there’s not going to be anything for me to do really. I’m mostly playing other games right now, so the update would have to be fairly impressive, or I’m still going to be waiting for July (or most likely even later).
Hello, and yes, the title is confusing. So my question about questions (lel) is how off topic can we go? is there an off topic discussion area? I’m not on many forums and have no interest in joining more, so this is one of the only places for me to ask people questions. Under the protection of this semi-GW2-related question, here is my off topic one; how old should you be to play black desert? If the kid it allowed to play this, is he old enough?
Since there is still such a thing as developmentally child-appropriate content, the short answer to you final question is no. Just because a child is exposed to a given content, that does not mean the child is mentally or psychologically capable of or ready to handle that content.
All it really means is some parents are negligent and/or idiots that do not understand developmental psychology, something everyone should have to understand before reproducing, but whatever.
April 1st is this Friday, maybe its just an April fools prank?
If only.
Yeah, there is no off-topic around here. Trust me on this. I’ve tried it. Have the infractions to prove it.
Peace.
For my asura, sylvari, charr, and norn, I used their lore conventions in choosing my names for them.
For my humans, I named them each an elemental name that had to do with their class. For instance, my human Engineer is Ember Wilde.
16 weapons was the set they promised. We’re not getting 16 weapons. It’s simple, really.
This expansion is falling apart. [Merged]

Just because you and your friends are happy doesn’t mean everyone lives in that bubble. Threads like that prove it out. And the backlash from that other thread and negative comments from hardcore supporters like Wooden Potatoes are the proverbial cherry atop this mess.
And just because you and your friends aren’t happy doesn’t mean the game is going to kitten. You said yourself, the only people who are particularly vocal are the ones who are dissatisfied, but not enough to just take a break. Which essentially means they just haven’t gotten their priorities in order, and are still willing to force themselves to do something they don’t enjoy because of some ridiculous notion of “loyalty” that simply doesn’t exist.
You make illogical assumptions here. Dissatisfaction doesn’t equal zero enjoyment. It doesn’t mean all dissatisfied players are “forcing” themselves to play. I mean, seriously? This has nothing to do with “priorities.” I’ve been annoyed by a lot of things in this game, all while still very much enjoying what I did choose to play. So…yeah. This makes no sense.
Will you pre-order the next expansion? [Poll]
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

The question was, “will you preorder?” not, “will you purchase?” Even announcing 12 maps for a buck will not necessarily get someone who wants to make a point to buy before release.
If they ever offer 12 maps for a buck, you already know that those maps will be small, grindy crap, anyway, for that price, and no, I daresay a lot of people wouldn’t pre-purchase it.
events that are chained to the failure of previous events
They didn’t have to do this. It never made any sense and I have no idea how they could have ever come up with this, anyway. It was a mistake that was completely avoidable, unlike a lot of the other bugs.
This seems like a workable solution. Just about anything would have been better than what they actually did.
I don’t think it’s the weapons themselves, I think its the precursor journey collection thing that is taking up all the time. They should have just released new legendaries and scrapped the whole precursor journey process.
This. If it’s the crafting/collection process that’s holding everything up, then they should have gone back to the whole precursor drops and you make the weapon like all the others in the MF system. It would be better than not giving players what they paid for and adding yet another unfinished project to the ever-growing scrap heap. I cannot imagine the disorganization that must exist behind the scenes for them to keep making mistakes like this. SMH
I have a mesmer. The class has always seemed to be very girly and teen-agery to me. I mean, when I was 13, I was drawing pink butterflies and unicorns and rainbows on all my stuff, but I didn’t know of any guys that did that.
That’s why my mesmer is a youngish-looking girl. She reminds me of those angsty, innocent girlish dreams I used to have.
Here I am, a throughly happy crafter-in-progress of Astralaria … until this awkward moment quite late in the process, where I suddenly realized that I have to max out ALL my Maguuma Masteries and that I have to ace almost all adventures for that (at least on silver).
Wow, that totally sucks! I’m not a fan of those mini-games, either. I can only get copper or whatever it is on all but a tiny handful of them. I’m just not good at them no matter how many times I repeat them, so any content that requires me to get silver or gold on a significant number, I am completely locked out of. That’s just facts.
