A guy walks into the doctors office and says “Doctor it hurts when I do this.” Doctor says “Stop doing that.”

I actually had a doctor tell me this once.

3 months later, my family received a notice in the mail that this doctor had been fired.

Apparently, the clinic he worked for didn’t think this was an acceptable process for diagnosis and/or treatment.

Scribing Costs

They should have just done away with the whole idea and made the thing some kind of guild menu interface where it’s part of the hall itself and anyone can contribute to the crafting level and make scribe items. The system wouldn’t hinge on a single person and the idiotic system would make much more sense.

And lets not pretend this was any kind of community building exercise by Anet. This was a blatant material vacuum that was meant to stir up the economy and eat up surplus materials. Nothing more.

Yeah, they so should have done this. If the entire guild membership could have worked on it, it would have been a much better system. They’re so desperate to keep their economy in a chokehold that they don’t appear to think some things through.

You also need to stop complaining about HoT maps and how hard and grindy they are when you haven’t even been in one yet.
You are complaining about SilverWastes which is the current farm map of choice.
You also don’t seem to realise that for PvE the maps aren’t on “your” server. They are shared instances across all either EU or non-EU servers. If you are in a dead instanced map, join another with the LFG tool, there’s usually a few advertising shovel farms, or showing what % of the map is done or that vw is up. Grab a taxi and join the groups there.

I’m Australian, i’m not in a EU map, i’m on Sea of Sorrows which last i checked was a US unofficial Au map..

And i’m only saying what i’m seeing, i started the Hot Expansion and it took me to silverwastes which i assumed was a hot map, either way the content on both SW and VB is a nightmare solo.

Not fun at all.

You’re right. Those maps don’t work well if there aren’t a ton of people on them. If you’re in a map where people are doing the events, then it can be fun, but otherwise, yeah, no dice. And, of course, you have to taxi usually to get into a good map. It’s the taxiing that I’m getting increasingly tired of.

I’m not sure what taxi means, but at about midnight my time i noticed the map filled up a bit… Midnight lol

During my day and evening times it seems the maps are quite dead, i’m now wondering if its a timezone issue.. I must say though the game population wise seems far more empty since ive returned from when i quitted at the zephur event.

To the above luckily i did complete Living Story 1, it was pretty lackluster for me at the time and i dislike tree people (i blame trahearn lol) so i wasn’t very interested in start of scarlet at all..

Taxiing is using the LFG to join a group that will get you into a map that you want to do, like Dragon’s Stand, for instance. You hope the map you join actually has people and are doing the event because sometimes, they aren’t.

This seems to be an individual problem (that I also have). My wife gets them all the time, and I have never gotten 1, ever. We harvest the same nodes, using the same harvesting tools, and I have 0 to date, yet she has over 100. I know everyone will say it’s just RNG, but after a while, it looks less like RNG and more like broken.

That is some stupid bad RNG. So, basically, this particular “non-RNG” way to get a legendary isn’t working out that way for some people at all. Looks like some people aren’t ever going to get this legendary.

Anyway, if you don’t see LFG listings in the 5-10 minutes before reset, start the ball rolling yourself. It usually only takes one or two comments in Map to get folks accreting into something organized.

All this may be moot as of Tuesday if we in fact get the HoT revamp then.

Yeah, I’ve tried this a few times, but I didn’t get enough people to do the event chain. I’m not sure what sort of revamp would keep me from still being frustrated by all the waiting around, but I sure hope whatever it is, they’ve done it for the update.

Meta refers to the large event on a map that people do once they’ve finished all the pre-req events beforehand. As they are large group events, his point is they would be difficult to solo.

Maps can have meta events and still include soloable content and even other soloable events. Core Tyria maps did this very well – plenty of solo content and a large meta world event for those that want to group up.

(Strange use of Meta by the way)
But there are never enough people on the maps to do them, so the content sits there pretty much useless just to appeal to a small minority that may or may not want to do them?

The rest just ignore the content and move on, because they have no choice.

I see people doing the Hirathi Hinterlands meta every time I’m in the map. Same with other maps, say….Silverwastes.

I don’t think all meta content is ‘useless’. Probably just depends on the map, and who’s there.

Which is all true but not Heart of Thorns… its all old content you listed, Hot is dead where i am.

Then you must have some kind of social awkwardness (too many fractals played? :P)
because it is not dead where i am. It is no problem to get into a map where the meta is being completed.

I’m constantly having trouble finding a DS map to taxi to. I often see the other 3 maps advertised, but this last week, I’ve rarely found a DS map to taxi into. So, sometimes, it’s not easy to get what you want to play even if you’re obediently checking LFG regularly.

Celtic Lady.3729

Hi,

I was very distraught to find that this mission took me to the ‘same’ location as several previous missions I have already completed in the world.

Why have they decided to use the same ship location for so many events/missions? It’s very tiresome because you have to climb to the bottom of the ship each time.

I’m not sure why this feature was introduced, but forcing players to repeat themselves is not good quality gameplay.

Thanks

I’m not a big fan of that krait fortress, either. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been knocked off that thing when I was just 2 steps from my goal and had to start all over – this is over the course of leveling around 12 characters. lol I don’t mind the back and forth so much – I got used to it doing the LOTRO epic story – but yeah, the krait towers can be frustrating.

Why my guild is retiring from GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

HoT lack of content – It just didn’t add much content… Honestly, the price isn’t the issue. The issue is it was hyped up but barely added anything. It added a few very cool things like guild halls and the raid, but very few areas and not even a new city. In terms of creative design, you have a lot from GW1 to work with, yet you didn’t. I honestly don’t understand given that GW2’s monetization model is sustainable and adding a large content update would stimulate more gem purchases.

HoT grind – Most of the new gear that HoT added requires a lot of grind to obtain. I don’t know if this was meant to extend the amount of time people spend playing to compensate for the lack of actual content, but either way there are a lot of people who just don’t aren’t going to do it. I wanted certain things like viper’s gear but I lost interest in HoT well before I finished a set of armor. Another grind issue that didn’t push me away, but probably pushed others away was the amount of hero points required for maxing out an elite spec.

Currency prices do seem to be an issue for me, too. I think masteries are grindy, but I also think that the currency cost of items for the different maps is too high. I’ve been working on DS items that cost 100 crystalline ore to buy each. That’s a lot of ore and the only way I can get it is to repeat DS’s 1 series of events in order to advance the meta and get what I need. Because of the way the map is designed, I feel like I’m doing the exact same thing over and over long after the initial enjoyment – the definition of grind for me. And furthermore, DS is a major time commitment, so it’s not quick and easy, rinse and repeat. I need a long block of time to do it.

As for why they designed it this way? It’s just like every other MMO I play – it’s to extend a relatively small amount of content, hoping people will be willing to repeat the same thing over and over and therefore somehow remain on the game longer. Other games do it with currencies, reputation, daily and weekly quests, etc. But it’s the exact same concept – repeating the same thing to get a desired result.

I’m not concerned about hype for this game. All I care about is what actually makes it into the game and whether or not I’m going to play what actually makes it into the game. Everything else is just talk and talk is cheap.

An appeal to Anet

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Well this is a first for me, I’m not a big user of the Forums. I’m not a hardcore user, just someone who over the last few years has hauled 7 characters through normal PvE content, done the storylines, followed the Living world episodes and managed to do 508 levels in WvW (most solo, but some with guilds).

I like Guildwars 2, it’s can be played in short bursts or all day if you want – and I’ve always found it to be fun. Some of the content can be challenging, but if you plug away at it you’ll succeed.

That is until today.

I’ve just busted my **** off in work for the last three days, you know the sort of really crappy shifts that make you think “thank god there is a day off coming up”.

I’ve done a few things that needed to be done and this afternoon I thought I would try to get my Revenant through Hearts an Minds. You know, play the game for a bit of fun and stress relief (!)

2nd biggest mistake I made today. Absolute frustration – bugs galore. If I ever see Canach in real life I’m going to find his non existant shield and shove it so far up he will be able to see his tonsils in the reflection off it.

Gave up in the end.

Soooo I decide to do Dragon Stand (this is the biggest mistake today). I get taxied into a nice full zone. Wonderful, here goes. Central track, we’re doing well. We get to the gate, other two tracks get to their gates not long after us and then we all run around in circles for a bit (hey this is a really good taxing mechanic Anet content designers – well done… /cough).

So we all managed to beat the respective champions and off we go into the Island phase. Hey we’re not doing bad here either, short while later we get the mouth of Mordremoth to about 15%. I jump into an updraft to get to one island that needs some help and BAM……

Yep, you guessed it crashed to Desktop with some sort of serious error and the Anet box telling me I can send them a message “to help improve the game”.

Thankfully I’m in a squad/group. Log back in. Can I rejoin that map. Can I hell. Get some message telling me about some network error. Weird because I’m actually connected to the Internet and GW2 other wise I wouldn’t have been able to see the network error message n the first place!

So Anet programmers. Thank you, really, thank you for an amazing night…….

Perhaps at sometime you could take a break from Glider skins and do something about this sort of thing.

I have to say that it really sucks that you can be in a squad, crash, and then still not get back to what you were doing. There goes the concept that being in a squad or group is the fix-all for crashes.

Celtic Lady.3729

thanks for your replies. i think you may be overestimating my ability and my apetite for challenge.

there are enough posts about difficulty and grouping on this forum and on reddit to make me know that hot would not be enjoyable for me as it is now. i tend not to play the harder parts of these types of games. i bought all of the first gw games and really enjoyed them but i never did any of the hard dungeons or bosses and never did hard mode.

in this game i have spent a bit of time in silverwastes and drytop but not really enjoyed them and i really struggled to complete the story line. in other words, i am nowhere near an expert player. i just enjoy wandering around collecting stuff and doing simple quests. i think i’d like gliding and i’d like to make a revenent and i’d like to continue the story.

i don’t know why they did not include some easy areas in hot. guildwars has always been about lots of easy content and some optional hard content.

I enjoyed the difficulty level of the core Tyria story instances. LS 2 instances were distinctly more challenging for me comparatively, and I didn’t really enjoy the increase in challenge. HoT story content felt very similar to me to the LS2 instances – challenging enough to be somewhere between painful and annoying to me needing to redo several of them more than once and I never took all of my alts through because I just don’t enjoy all the dying and redoing.

Your playstyle sounds similar to mine. One of my main frustrations with HoT maps is the inability to really take my time and enjoy the scenery the way I did with all the core Tyria maps except for maybe Orr. I got frustrated with depending on other players to do some of the Hero Challenges that aren’t soloable, too. And there are several map completion items that you need to complete a story instance to access or need to have the meta progress to access – both of which lower the feeling that I can just go out, work on a map whenever I want to, and get it done regardless of what other people are doing.

What if HoT maps weren't as difficult?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Since 2014 it’s become known that ANet had hired someone in order to bring more challenging content to the game, and we’ve seen some effects of that as time passed. It’s also common sense that, although we want complex enemy behavior, it’s easier said than done, specifically considering the very nature of MMOs. This has all been done in response to a huge outcry for challenging content ever since people realized dungeons+fractals weren’t really examples of difficulty.

With all that being said, how would you guys (both veterans, and non-veterans) receive a news that HoT map mobs’ AI/group comps have been changed in order to provide easier encounters? How would the community perceive HoT encounters if they were to be downgraded in difficulty to match Central Tyria? Would you be against it or in favor? What your suggestions would be to improve the maps?

It wouldn’t really bother me honestly. I play games to relax. I enjoy challenge everyday in real life. In my games, I just like to relax and enjoy the scenery and story. If they made changes to HoT that allowed me to stop and stroll and smell the roses more, I’d be fine with it. As always, I think soloable HCs and map completions not tied to the story or events would improve those maps.

Which is none of your business. Everyone sets their own goals and everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Actually, it’s very much our business since you’re willingly and openly discussing in on a public forum. … so no, if people aren’t ready to talk about the goals they set for the endgame and how it relates to Legendary development, they shouldn’t use that as point for discussion and probably exclude themselves from the whole discussion in the first place.

I’m willing to mention it as part of the argument, but the only thing we actually need to know are the answer to 2 questions
Did we pay full price for the expansion? Yes
Did ANET provided with EVERYTHING they were promoting as part of HoT? No

Probably exclude themselves from the whole discussion in the first place.

Lol!
The main issue here is the fact that the customer didn’t get what they paid for.

This is the way I see it. It’s not true that we didn’t pay for features. Of course, we did. The whole reason they list features of an expansion is so we’ll know what we’re paying for. If features were so unimportant and arbitrary, they wouldn’t bother listing them and we wouldn’t know what we’re spending our money on. It’s the standard by which we make our decision to spend our money. What they cut is irrelevant. The fact that features listed as an expansion, that were used to make the decision to spend the money, were cut after the fact is the problem. I think it’s sloppy and unprofessional. Until they actually add everything they listed as being the HoT expansion, I’ll consider it a partially finished product.

I don’t spend my money on a list of features for any MMO. That’s not what I care about, and it’s not what usually will keep me in an MMO. I understand that you do spend your money that way, and that’s fine. But because I understand how I consume things, I’m only obligated to be a good consumer to myself. If keeping myself happy somehow offends you, I’m sorry for that, but it won’t change my behavior.

You seem to be missing my point entirely. And I have no idea why you’re talking about me being offended. Nowhere in this discussion have I said anything about being offended by your point of view or ordering you change your point of view. That all seemed to come out of left field. And yes, when I buy an MMO expansion, I buy it for the features they listed and advertised as being the expansion.

If I can’t rely on the accuracy of their list of features, I’m not sure what I’m paying for. That’s the whole reason they list out the features – so we’ll know what we’re paying for. I disagree with them altering the list once money has been paid regardless of whether or not the items left out is content that I’ll play or enjoy or not. This is how I see it. It’s not a matter of happiness or unhappiness. It’s not a matter of satisfaction or dissatisfaction with anything that was actually delivered.

It’s a matter of a company delivering what they’ve been paid for and what they said was going to be included in a product. I think it’s unprofessional to do anything else. Even if I loved 100% of HoT, I would still see it as unprofessional to make a list of features and then not deliver all those features. Perhaps eventually they’ll make everything they listed as being included with HoT. But until then, it’s a partial product as far as I’m concerned and is not something I’d want to make a habit of as a business in general.

HoT was and continues to be only partially done so long as all the items they advertised as being a part of HoT have not been put into the game.

I’ll just leave this here.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Disney_attractions_that_were_never_built

It’s not really the same situation and doesn’t alter my view that content already paid for should be provided.

It’s the same situation. Disney which is a themepark isntead of a themespark MMO talked about stuff they never delivered, for one reason or another.

Saying somethingt is partially completed, when it’s mostly completed is a different statement anyway. We’re not missing tons of stuff. We’re missing a couple of things out of a lot of things. And apparently the legendary fractal packpiece will be along any day, so we’ll be missing even less.

It’s not the same situation. There was a list of things we paid for from HoT. We paid for that list. The list that they chose to make and tell us was HoT was never fully delivered. Therefore, HoT is unfinished for what we paid for. The fact that they’re going to give more of the list, which is great, doesn’t change the fact that they’ve all but abandoned other items that we paid for. Until that list is in the game in its advertised entirety, HoT will be only partially completed.

Those who bought season passes at Disneyworld may have also paid for stuff they believed would be coming.

The problem is, with MMOs, you’re paying for access to areas. That’s what you’re paying for. Anyone who’s experienced with MMOs knows that stuff changes constantly, sometimes due to expected circumstances, some according to player commentary, some according to stuff that the company didn’t know.

Simply put if the company is going to put something in the game and not enough people are making use of it and it’s going to take a lot of development resources, canceling it is good business, even if a few players feel disenfranchised by it.

If we got 90% of the features listed on the box and then other things that weren’t listed, we’re getting value for money.

People still see buying an MMO is paying for a product, rather than a service, and they’re very different.

We were told we’d be able to craft precursors. Yes. Does everyone like the format that’s taken. No. But it’s all there.

Did Anet say we’d get new legedaries. Yes. Did they deliver some new legendaries, yes.

Did they also say over time we’d get more, yes. They did.

But We did get 3 legendaries and we’re getting a 4th now.

If you want to insist the expansion won’t be complete until the other 8 legendaries are in the game, sure, okay it won’t be complete. And TECHNICALLY that would make it a PARTIAL expansion.

But then if 90% of what is talked about is delivered, saying partial is still misleading.

It’s like saying I didn’t get hte radio I expected to get with my car, so I only got a partial car.

An expansion that’s always growing is always partial anyway. It’s the nature of the MMO beast.

If you paid for the radio, and they decided not to give it to you, then yes, you didn’t get the full sale. You got a partial sale, and most people wouldn’t be too happy to pay for features on their cars that they didn’t ever get after they’d already paid. Even making allowances for the difference in MMOs versus actual objects, they’ve given us a partial expansion so far.

They said that HoT would include 16 new legendaries. Until all 16 are in the game, it’s still partial even if most of it is there. They didn’t have to advertise 16 new legendaries. They could have advertised 4 new legendaries, but they didn’t. It was their choice to make that many legendaries part of the HoT pricing and advertisement.

But you still got a car, that’s the point.

This is just a sloppy business attitude. But I still got a car? Please. If a person pays for features for their car, but they don’t get them, then the seller has only given them part of what they paid for. A lot of people seem to feel the need to make excuses for Anet and prop them up. I don’t feel that need personally.

Since everything is digital, when it comes to MMOs, we spend our money based on the features listed as being part of an expansion. I believe it’s unprofessional and irresponsible to make a list of features and then not add them to the game once people have paid for those features. Adding most of the features is still not adding them all. Customers paid for them all. Giving them less than what was advertised is giving them a partial product since the sale was based on the features listed.

Rewriting history and saying that since we got some of the legendaries, we got the full expansion, seems kind of illogical to me. I get it that they planned badly and don’t want to do the work to finish the full 16. That’s life. But it’s still only giving me part of what I paid for.

Hopefully make it easier to solo..

How would you solo meta..

They could make the HCs soloable as well as map completions. Previous core Tyria maps didn’t require you to either do the story or play the events in order to get 100% completion. I’d like to see the HoT maps go back to this.

Anyone else?

Honestly, I don’t expect any real content on this game until July (or whenever they actually add Season 3).

The story is horrible. I can’t bear to go through it again. I’ve only sent one through.

Me, too. I’ve done the story partially on more than one character, but I’ve only finished it all the way through on my main. I didn’t like it. It felt rushed and didn’t have the proper emotion for the major things that happened. It had a contrived solution to a major problem that didn’t make logical sense and had no decent lead-up. And the final battle and victory didn’t feel epic at all, the way Zhaitan’s victory did.

And yet, one of the biggest complaints about the Zhaitan fight was how anticlimatic it was. I’ve seen far more complaints about Zhaitan being anticlimatic than about Mordremonth being anitcilimatic.

That’s not to say the Mordremoth fight isn’t buggy, because it is, but hitting 2 to kill Zhaitan in a minute or so is one of the biggest complaints about the original story.

I’m not referring to the small part of the final instance where we gun Zhaitan to death. I’m talking about the level of follow-up after his death and the celebration at the end. The fact that I died repeatedly during the Mordemoth fight and I didn’t during the Zhaitan fight does nothing to increase my feeling that the Mordemoth fight was more epic. It wasn’t more epic for me. It was just frustrating, long, and overall disappointing in its scope.

This expansion is falling apart. [Merged]

by the posts of everyone everywhere on the internet, gw2 is dead, so is wow, wildstar, path of exile, diablo and every mmo that ever existed. They are all dead along with the poor horse who is beaten one too many times.

Not saying WoW is dead, but Blizzard now flatly refuse to publish sub numbers.

Take from that what you will.

“Dead” as applied to MMOs is kind of subjective. Lots of MMOs continue to churn out content and remain online even with only a very few number of players.

Will you pre-order the next expansion? [Poll]

For extra pre-order enthusiasm.

Oh, I didn’t realize we could already pre-order the second expansion. lol
