Something I wish we had the option of doing is dropping crafts and not having to replace them. So, I could clear the slate on a character that had 2 crafts and she’d have none. Really wish this was an option.

I agree. All inventory slots should be moveable since we all organized our stuffs differently. Choices are good. Maybe they’ll make this possible if enough people like the idea.

HoT maps should all be soloable

They are.
Except the meta and world bosses which also aren’t soloable in core Tyria.

HoT maps are not all soloable. There are HCs in the maps that most players require at least one other person to complete (usually more). Needing help to complete HCs is not soloing. Also, quite a few map completion items are locked behind finishing a map’s meta, and completing a meta takes more than 1 person, so that’s all non-soloable content, too.

This gave me a much-needed LOL. Thank you for that.

Of course, the reason we’re glad they’re reverting is because a lot of us hated most everything they added and/or changed. You have to admit that it’s pretty bad when you give people new content and it’s so bad they’re begging for you to give them the old again.

But they could have avoided this.

We get it, there are things about GW2 you don’t like, think are stupid, etc… That’s not actually unique. There are things I don’t like and think are stupid, and the next guy and probably almost every player. Nothing wrong with discussion for the sake of discussion. If the thread annoys you so much, you don’t have to read it. Why come into someone’s thread just to berate and insult them?

Scarlet Briar and why she should be forgotten

Be thankful that’s all you had to deal with.
Briar was literally a thorn. Not in a compliment kind of way.

Scattered, broken, inconsistent backstory and development that appeared out of no where and somehow made all the other NPCs drop several IQs during the seasons.
She had potential, but Anet blew that chance. She was just a reason to segway to the next dragon. Even if it made little sense.

The only good thing that came from her was the Marionette fight, which sadly still has had only poor replicas in its place in other areas.

I thought the Breachmaker fight was the best, but the Marionette was certainly a close second.

I really loved the Marionette fight. And the destruction of Lion’s Arch was really fun, too. I still remember running all over the city, amazed at how different it looked and shocked that they actually went so far as to change it like that.

GW2 and stats

Celtic Lady.3729

One of my biggest gripes is how player stats are changed based on zone levels. I feel this is a great injustice to the fantasy MMORPG genre!

Want to know why they did this? Because nice big 80s would go to a level 1-15 zone and 1 shot everything when a lowbie character was working on events or anything. Sometimes the 80s would just farm a spot that a lot of low level characters would be in just to grief them. Now both of them are almost on par and can fight equally. It’s not about loot, if you are trying to kill something, and the moment it spawns it’s dead instantly, how are you expected to even have a chance for credit.

So this can affect your immersion all you want, it is actually better for the game this way. There was a time when it wasn’t, and it was an awful mess back then.

I completely disagree. I don’t think levels should be controlled in this way. I can understand why they would do it – in a way they had no choice because they made the world one large constant zone. But it’s still stupid.

So how would you stop a level 80 1 shotting all the mobs in an area preventing a lowbie from even working on anything there? You can disagree all you want, so then how would you fix it besides how it is currently done?

I wonder how big of a problem this really is. I play several MMOs where level isn’t adjusted depending on area, and I’ve never had any problem with capped characters coming down to lower level areas and griefing me. I do my quests and level just fine and rarely ever even see a high level in these zones.

…snip…

Dont want to destroy you perfect world but if it weren’t for Trehearne you would fail in fight against Mordy. It was HE who let you inside of Mordy’s mind and weaken him so much that he was easy to kill. HE sacrificed himself so that Mordy wasn’t able to reborn.

In the end HE transformed from marshall into a real hero that sacrificed himself for the greater good like a real hero should do – player was just a tool that finished the job.

As a famous proverb say There is no greatest thing that a human being can do then to sacrifice his life for others. So unless your toon dies permanently you wont become a true hero.

(also why whine of an NPC stealing anything from players – in a game? lolwut)

I’m afraid you missed the point.
I’m not saying Trehearne wasnt important. I’m just saying that the way the story completly shifts towards him and his story in the game ruined a lot of it for me. And that is also the general consensus, or at least was, of almost everyone who played the vanilla guild wars (Just google it out and you’ll see people’s rants about that.)

I never said he wasnt important or that he did nothing :P. lol. But having been important or not, I believe the “PERSONAL STORY” is about being PERSONAL, as in being MY STORY. IN other words, it should be about me, not about some other character that I just happen to accompany. If I wanted to see a story about a different character than my own, I’d watch a movie, or play a game in which I play a character rather than a MMO. :P

Traherne had a role to play, however, he was not the reason our characters were heroes. All our characters were heroes long before Traherne. We had already earned the respect, recognition, and confidence of important leaders in Tyria before Traherne. We were leaders in our own right, but they wanted a Pact leader that hadn’t joined an order, so Traherne fit the bill. I see our characters’ roles in the story as exceeding Traherne’s in overall importance even though Traherne was very helpful.

What they cut is irrelevant. The fact that features listed as an expansion, that were used to make the decision to spend the money, were cut after the fact is the problem. I think it’s sloppy and unprofessional. Until they actually add everything they listed as being the HoT expansion, I’ll consider it a partially finished product.

Postponed indefinitely does not mean cut. Be upset all you want about the indefinite postponement, but at least be aware what you are upset about.

Time will tell if “postponed indefinitely” really means “cut.” I believe there’s a good chance that’s exactly what it’ll end up meaning, but yes, we’ll all wait and see.

1) Mini-adventures – have no business in an MMO. Masteries should be related to the MMO content itself not mario like games.

They were meant to be fun. Many people did/do find them fun. Can’t blame the devs for trying to add a bit of fun. Sorry you don’t find them fun.

I’m fine with fun. However, mini-games are only going to appeal to a segment of the total population. Tying progression to them is like saying, “Hey, if you want to get to max level, you have to do mini-games.” GW2 leveling progression is wide-open. Actually doing pretty much anything the game offers grants XP. But not the alternative progression of “masteries.” This is poor design. Intrinsic rewards should be enough for those who find Adventures fun. An extrinsic reward of a progression system should be wide open, like XP is.

I think it would have been better to have something as basic as Mastery Points completely divorced from the Adventures, too. Adventures are naturally going to exclude players for a variety of reasons given their nature and, given that some people simply are never going to be able to complete them no matter what they do, the rewards for them should not, imo, have included the mastery system since everyone needs mastery points.

I’m of the belief that really basic systems should be accessible to anyone and shouldn’t be locked out for people that just aren’t ever going to be able to do something. Or perhaps a better plan would have been to make enough mastery points beyond those included in Adventures so that people that never do Adventures can get enough to max out their masteries without them. For instance, if they had required us to get silver or gold on a majority of the masteries in order to play the elite specs, I’d have never been able to enjoy that content.

I’m not a big fan overall of JPs. It always amazes me how many I’ve actually done considering this fact. I had more enthusiasm for them early on in the game’s life, but lately I really don’t do them. The last JP I completed was the SW one. Took about 5 hours from start to finish using a Dulfy vid. I’m still recovering.

However, I don’t believe for a minute that they’re going to stop adding them. It seems obvious to me that JPs are always going to be a big part of the game. It is what it is.

I do feel for people that want to get something done and a JP they can’t do is in the way of their goal. I tend to avoid things that involve JPs, but I can understand someone’s frustration with it. Unless they give multiple ways of achieving a given goal in the future, I assume JPs are going to continue being roadblocks to certain content for some.

Frankly, I don’t believe “dedication” has anything to do with it. “Casual” is not an antonym for “dedicated.”

Eh based off the definitions I am using, it appears to be so

Casual: without definite or serious intention; careless or offhand; passing:
a casual remark.

Dedication: to devote wholly and earnestly, as to some person or purpose

Sure, on the surface it may seem so, except for the tiny fact that both adjectives are refering to different things. “Casual” refers to the playing style, while “dedicated” refers to the game.
Thus, something like a “dedicated casual” is definitely possible.
Notice also, that the opposite – a “undedicated hardcore” is also possible. Most of the content locust fall into that category.

One can have a casual appoach to the game and one can have a dedicated approach to the game. The adjectives can be refering to the same thing. His definition works. Not that it is universally applicable, of course.

Using the terms that way just seemed misleading. So I clarified. One can also be a dedicated casual player and, as Astral pointed out, one can be an undedicated hardcore. It seemed like the original post I responded to was implying a person was always one or the other.

I don’t know exactly how GW2 can balance the 2 kinds, but it would be nice if they did going forward. In the original game, they had casual-style maps but they also had content that could be challenging like dungeons, certain JPs, etc, etc. They’ve since added a lot more of this content, so the game is sitting better than ever for challenging content, especially now that there are raids and higher level fractals.

I hope the next expansion features some more relaxing maps like the originals and some easier story instances to help continue balancing out the more challenging content. We’ll have to wait and see.

Celtic Lady.3729

Every time I get into DS meta through the LFG there is a lot of people doing it. Only ONCE I have seen one of such maps fail.

I don’t know if they truly like it, if they hate it but are masochists, if they are there only for the rewards, or if they are like me (Find it really fun, but don’t like to repeat it too often).

So:
Many people “love it” -> Don’t know.
Many people “hate it” -> Don’t know.
Many people do it -> Oh, yes.

You make a good point. lol Doing something regularly doesn’t necessarily equate enjoyment or appreciation. Even in gaming. I do my laundry, but I hate it. I ran all of the HoT zones long after the appeal had died because I was gathering items I wanted that involved a specific currency. I’m running DS regularly now, but I don’t really enjoy it. I just want some items that cost crystalline ore. When I’m done getting those, I doubt I’ll be back. I know that I’m not the only player this is true for.

So, yeah, it is really hard to judge love it/hate it since there are other motivations for doing the maps than “Oh, I just love repeating this so much!” lol

Oh, come on. Everyone knows that if you dislike even one teensy, tiny little thing about GW2 and dare to express it, it must REALLY mean that you absolutely hate every single thing about it because, you know, it just isn’t possible for a human being to like some things and not others and still enjoy themselves.

I said nothing in return. Not one single word. He became so frustrated with my lack of response that he began going on about how I wasn’t even on the server I was on, that I was really a spy for one of the other servers, that I had hacked my account and stolen it from someone else, etc, etc.

All 3 times, eventually people in my group would start making fun of him. Lots of jokes. They called me the “Spy Commander” etc, making fun of his accusations. He finally left the map.

So, yeah, sometimes you can even say nothing at all and still win.

I’d be willing to bet I know exactly who you are talking about. and your lucky, this guy does this EVERY day, all day. He’s MO is to complained/berate tags until they detag so he can tag, and even then he continues to berate everyone as every little problem that arises is not his fault but everyone elses and will rage-detag, but stay on the map to berate everyone. the map becomes so toxic. I just think it is unfair for a large portion of the playerbase to keep every content in the game faceroll easy. If you’re a casual then no you don’t have the same access, or same rewards as the dedicated.

Frankly, I don’t believe “dedication” has anything to do with it. “Casual” is not an antonym for “dedicated.”

Eh based off the definitions I am using, it appears to be so

Casual: without definite or serious intention; careless or offhand; passing:

This isn’t the definition I would attribute to gaming. I’m a casual player and I’ve also been dedicated to this game for going on four years. I haven’t been careless or offhand about it. Doubt I’m the only one. So many people seem to think that casual and dedicated are mutually exclusive. I’m not one of them.

My lack of enjoyment of HoT’s challenge has nothing to do with dedication or skill and everything to do with playstyle. Again, I’m not the only one for which this is true, but I see a lot of assumptions that my opinion means I’m stupid/unskilled/lazy/mentally ill (yes, really). What it really means is I’m different from a player that happens to like this “go, go, go” environment. Neither one is better than the other.

I’m all for a game having a variety of challenge levels. This game included. Something for everyone. And this includes new content, not just old. Don’t give me the dead horse argument that I have “all of core Tyria to faceroll.” I hope in the future the game adds both challenge and more relaxing content. I think that makes sense overall.

I completed The Legend quest line and it wasn’t that costly for me since I had been saving up ascended materials. Every once and a while I find someone selling it but it’s been a slow grind so for now i’m still sitting on a precursor.

Inb4 someone says “Do the arah pvp track” I hate pvp and will never play it, i know this is my choice but it’s far too toxic in there for a newbie who doesn’t know the ropes and i have no interest in learning them.

If you got a kin member or a friend to agree to go into pvp with you into an empty arena – there’s always lots of them – you can complete the pvp dailies in only a few minutes and without pvp toxic bums to bother you. Keep doing this until you get your tokens from the track. It wouldn’t really take all that long doing it this way.

If you don’t really care about finishing maps, gliding is the main thing (IMO) HoT has to offer. There are also the mini-games known as Adventures. That’s the only other thing I can think of that you’d really miss out on.

Personally, I only like about 3 or 4 of the Adventures. All the others I find so stupid hard that I don’t bother with them. But the main problem with Adventures is they seem to be locked out most of the time due to events constantly going on, so you might have trouble even playing them.

The dungeons were required to progress the story line when GW 2 first came out. That lasted about 30 seconds because of all the complaining.

Arah was left as the end because how else could you finish personal story killing Zhaitan with the original dungeon design? They would have had to rewrite/design the entire end of the personal story.

The story modes are designed 5 person. They are doable with less depending on skill level.

I’m pretty certain dungeon stories were not required post-launch.

Yeah, I’ve been playing since launch and the dungeons were never required (Arah excluded) in order to finish the personal story. I only did the story dungeons much later in order to unlock pvp tracks. I ignored them before that.

HoT was made more challenging than the Tyria maps. I didn’t really care for the increase in open world challenge. I like exploring, too.

The only thing that worked for me was to park my characters in Verdant Brink and grind out masteries via the events (there were people in VB when I was doing this) until I could unlock the masteries I needed to get around – like mushroom jumping and the 1st three gliding skills.

I did have to wait around at several of the HCs for help, but I finally got them all done on the map. I also had to do a lot of taxiing into full maps since I always landed in a dead one when I logged on. This is likely something you’ll have to do, too.

On the upside, I believe they’ve said they’re going to do an update soon on the jungle maps. Hopefully, this will make using them a bit easier.

1. It would have helped for us to have re-framed or spent more time on the discovery of Mordremoth’s weakness and 2. I would have wanted to go back and add non-VO text conversations on the PC’s allies throughout the story so that we could have given more optional background information or additional context that was lost by us choosing such a deliberate pace._

(quotes are from Lead Story writer Matthew Medinas replies on Reddit – I didn’t add in the questions since the answers should provide enough context and there is some toxicity from Reddit questions I didn’t want to bring across)

Thanks for posting this. I found it very interesting. I think your summary of his comments are spot-on, too. They did seem to set themselves up pretty high.

I really agree with the part about spending more time on the dragon’s weakness – more information, more lead up, so it made more sense when our characters came up with their final plan of attack. And while I wouldn’t say that the story was completely lacking in emotion, I would still say that it just wasn’t enough in places to be believable for the events that occurred.

It would be cool if they could take more time with future installments of the story, though. Sometimes, it’s those extra little details that can really make a difference and add a lot to a narrative.

For whatever reason, they decided to work on the shortbow instead of one of the more popular weapons, which would have made sense to me. I don’t know why they did it. Maybe so many people absolutely hated the current legendary shortbow that they decided it just had to be given a second option. That’s my best guess.

What? I’ve not seen this ever. Maybe you’ve been unlucky with your maps, but then I’m on an EU server, so that might be it.

Im on EU, there is a rotating group on every ab meta I play.

To be honest it doesn’t appear to hurt anything. As long as no one then afks after, i havent seen any noticeable problem.

The last time I played AB, everyone seemed to rotate through all four areas as opposed to four groups staying in each one. This was the first time I’ve seen this strategy, but it worked and we got the meta done. Not sure if this is what you mean, though.

Wh—?? I thought we were on the same side! ^^
Anyway, I was just trying to make a point. I only generalized to illustrate that point. He was criticizing someone else who was also criticizing. But his own criticism contained the supposed fault of the person he himself was criticizing. Sorry for banter.

Okay. Fair enough.

So, word of the day – criticize.

It was good banter. However, I do appreciate the people on the forum that don’t make a habit of doing this. It’s a pet peeve of mine when people tell others how they feel, tell them what they think or should think, whether or not they should talk, and make wild assumptions that were never stated and can’t be logically concluded from what was said. I guess that was my ultimate point.

Remove EoTM or limit its use

Removing EOTM is not going to help. If players wanted to be in the other maps, they would be. Removing EOTM means those people playing it would simply stop playing it. There is no reason to assume they’re automatically going to go play in the other maps instead.

Your feelings and experiences are not the same as others.

Oh, but they are.

Criticizing them because they are not the same is wrong.

And yet, everyone does this. ^^

Not everyone. lol

but I don’t see this so much with TD or AB, or VB metas, or even the Silverwastes.

My experience has been the exact opposite. I’ve seen a lot of taxis for these three maps, but I’m having trouble lately finding very many DS taxis. It’s been kind of frustrating, actually. Wouldn’t you know that when I need to accumulate crystalline ores, the number of DS taxis seems to have dropped, at least when I play.

I watched the video. My opinion is that I was surprised that he didn’t actually hit on any of the major concerns a lot of people have with the game. Everything he cited were things I’d never really seen many people, if any, complaining about. So overall, his opinions didn’t mean much to me because I couldn’t really see from what he said how these are more pressing problems than all the ones I’ve been hearing and reading about for months now.

Another thing Anet should be doing!

This is good, I can see some interesting positive impact from such a “small” change as automating warning messages within 10 minutes after a report.

I personally don’t feel GW2 has this kind of issue though. If we’re going to compare, by personal experience, LoL’s community toxicity versus GW2’s is, well, non comparable. In the last year or so I don’t recall any need to report a player(other than gold sellers etc). Of course, just because I don’t get it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen at all, but GW2’s community is far more enjoyable, and perhaps not needing such a strict measure.

Out of curiosity though, what do you perceive as “disruptive players in GW2

Try playing a couple of games of ranked PvP.

Haha. I made the big mistake of stepping into ranked one day. Never seen so much screaming and so little playing before. It’s great if you enjoy drama, though.

I realized that gw2 is not p2w.

As a player who paid the full $60 for both the original game and the expansion, I personally feel I have gotten more than my money’s worth for the game. With all the permanent content, Living Story, and festivals, I feel my money was well spent. I am not the least bit bitter about the core game becoming available as an endless F2P trial. In fact, I actually think it’s a really good idea and will encourage people to try it out (after which, I think they will decide they want to try the paid content and buy the expansion).

That doesn’t actually seem to be happening. I don’t have the link, but I read an article recently in which GW2’s people had indicated that they weren’t receiving sales in the numbers that they’d hoped for from having gone F2P.
