Here’s a hint about knowing who is and isn’t happy: dissatisfied players stopped playing and don’t post on forums where they don’t play. Happy players typically play the game and don’t post. Unhappy players still play, somewhat, and tend to be more vocal in their disappointing . . . because they’re still holding out for hope.

Just because you and your friends are happy doesn’t mean everyone lives in that bubble. Threads like that prove it out. And the backlash from that other thread and negative comments from hardcore supporters like Wooden Potatoes are the proverbial cherry atop this mess.

I agree with this. The forum will always be inundated with people claiming that because THEY love everything about this game, there is obviously no real concerns going on. Well, for all the people excusing Anet’s recent decision by hinting that the company must be having financial problems, guess what? If they’re having financial problems at all, it’s not because everyone is so blinking happy.

How about they start by having everything that is included in an expansion actually available upon purchase rather than a year or more down the road? IMO, that would be a really good place to start.

I don’t believe this will ever happen, though.

So, before HoT was announced, would you have been willing to wait an extra year or so for them to finish developing its content?

Or

Would you have rather A-net not included legendary weapons as a selling point?

I honestly wish they’d finished the expansion before selling it. No question about it.

… Because false advertising almost always requires you to prove intent to deceive. If situations change and something can’t get delivered, that isn’t considered false advertising in any country I know of.

I do not realize what can be worse: to be labeled as deceiver to or be labeled as incompetent.

Pretty much this. Even if I’m being extremely generous, Anet has engaged in some serious mismanagement of resources, human and otherwise, and some seriously bad planning and projection for them not to have known exactly what they could and could not deliver. Knowledge of this should have existed BEFORE the money was taken. It is their job to know and them not knowing makes the company look extremely incompetent.

I just came back to check out the game after taking a break about 3 weeks after HoT launched and I’m already sad and disappointed. Correct me if I’m wrong please, but I don’t see a single glider skin that is available to unlock or earn as reward for playing the game. I see they have added bunch of glider skins and all of them are gem store. It is extremely disappointed. Of course I can convert gold and buy it, but it still feels wrong and greedy of anet that they can’t put a single glider skin for reward. Default glider is intentionally incredibly ugly, not even fully dyeable, just so you are “forced” buy a new one. Especially since they put gliding in Tyria.
This is of course just one little thing, but there are a lot of these little things that makes you sad or even angry sometimes.
So, I understand what you’re saying, OP. It is sad that A-net insists to disappoint us again and again over past…. well for quite some while now.

The only glider skin that I have that I didn’t buy from the store is the ugly knit glider or whatever it’s called. That one I got in the game by doing a series of quests around Christmastime.

I agree with you. It would be far more satisfying if we could get things like glider skins from actually playing the game rather than trolling the store.

What is wrong here? Please tell me?

The way I see it, the problem is that the decision was made to go back on their word regarding new legendary weapons, which was something players paid for when they bought HoT. He made this decision instead of another one – like adding more people to the legendary team so they could finish the weapons in a timely manner and give the players content they paid for. Or reassessing the timeline for the weapons and announcing that.

It’s hard to believe that the only possible solution was to scrap everything. I would think they’d be concerned about that new expansion they’re already working on and whether people are going to trust that they’ll get what is going to be promised for the next one.

I mean, why do I want to buy another expansion with promised content that may or may not get scrapped after I pay for it?

We like it when people tell the truth. We don’t like it when people lie or mischaracterize like you have.

Directing a response to an individual is not naming and shaming.

I didn’t lie. I misunderstood the post and when I read it, it looked exactly like calling out names for the purpose of shaming. As several players pointed out I was wrong, I went back and re-read the post and saw what they were saying. I made a simple mistake. What’s your excuse for accusing me of something you have no evidence of?

I suppose there’s no grounds to make Anet accountable for their reversal via a class action lawsuit, but it doesn’t seem right that they can sell something and then decide for whatever reason that they are no longer going to deliver what people paid for.

MMO developers really can get away with things other, more traditional businesses can’t.

I lost a LOT of respect for Mike O’brien when he posted and specifically named people in order to humiliate, embarrass, and shame them for their opinions. There are a lot of valid, demonstrable reasons why players see HoT as incomplete.

But for a professional to name and shame when Anet’s policy for their own players is not to allow this is just pathetic. And totally unprofessional. He needs to get a grip on his emotions and step back and look at all points of view objectively, politely, and professionally.

Been having fun catching up on Ps4 games.

I hate to say it, but I’ve been playing games again that I left to come play this one. And the overall feeling when I go back is, “Wow, I used to think this game was grindy, but now it doesn’t feel that way anymore!” lol Sad.

For me, GW2 has ended up being the grindiest MMO I’ve ever played. I still like a lot of aspects of it, but the grind has been hard for me to get around. HoT didn’t really help with this, either.

My hopes for WvW are pretty low. The only reason it is on the April update list is that the amazing WvW upgrade with HoT completely tanked. I find it hard to get excited about a WvW renovation which is actually an attempt to undo the damage of the last WvW renovation. Nothing revolutionary is going to happen, unless the whole server system is revamped.

The 6 people [formerly] on Legendaries and 70 people on xpac2 is the issue that sticks in my craw. In many ways, HoT is still in early access yet the money I paid for it is ignored by Anet while they focus on money I might pay for xpac2. Xpac2 won’t ship as a complete product either, so not completing xpac1 means buying xpac2 is predetermined to be the same bad deal as xpac1. Xpac2 will not be completed because xpac3 will be more important as soon as xpac2 goes on sale. There is no end to this rabbit hole until a future xpac team gets reassigned to GW3 because GW2 became an endless train of broken promises that people stopped paying into.

I am still waiting to hear how I will get my money’s worth for xpac1. I haven’t even heard a hint of an apology for taking my money and not delivering what I paid for. I couldn’t really afford $50 for HoT, and now Anet’s focus is on charging me another $50 without honoring the value of the last $50.

I don’t much care for the fact that so many people are working on another expansion when there are so many glaring problems with the first one that aren’t being addressed. I think they’re overestimating how many people are going to pre-purchase and/or buy the next expansion. A lot of us feel we’ve been burned once already. I’m not interested in another expansion that is the same size as the last one for the same price with the same problems.

You can solo things in HoT just fine except the meta event bosses. Its just not faceroll easy as old Tyria. But I do not see people solo Shatterer, Tequatl etc either.

I am sure he is talking about hero points you can’t solo.
And without hero points you can’t develope your character.

I understand very well why he is complaining.
Multiplayer should be optional not forced.
GW1 was a perfect example how to do it.
Actually i have no idea why they threw everything over board that made A-Net so successful and invented cheap, no creativity new stuff to replace it.

Two main mistakes I think they made in HoT maps is not being able to solo Hero Challenges and not being able to solo 100% map completions like we can in Core Tyria. If these 2 things were changed, it would be a lot easier to go out and enjoy HoT content without having to worry about constant taxiing and needing other players all doing the same thing you’re doing at the exact same time. Would be so much less limiting.

The only way this game moves forward, in my opinion, if it returns to the type of product it offered early on. And even that might be too late, because so many have become disenfranchised.

I agree with this. I began playing this game because what it offered in the beginning seemed to really fit my playstyle. All MMOs evolve, but I feel like this game has evolved a little too much in the wrong direction. It has been culture shock, so to speak, for me from about LS2 on. Everything seemed just so different from the maps, quests, events, and instances that I loved in the core game. I assumed, incorrectly, that future content would be more of the same fun content that the game began with. The one change to the game that has been really different that I liked was the gliding. Some other things, though, not so much.

Removing legendaries is a horrible business decision. As someone who enjoys skins, dressing up, and looking nice Legendary weapons are literally my endgame. Removing legendary weapons removes the endgame grind for people who want to have the perfect look. How many of those people do you think buy skins?

All GW2 has ever had for endgame is the dressing up. They’ve got nothing else unless you count the raid now. And one raid just isn’t much. Which is why they need the new legendaries.

A restaurant advertises a certain dish. For various reasons, months later, they can’t do that dish anymore. Doesn’t matter the reasons. That’s not a scam. Unless you can prove when Anet announced it they had no intention of doing it. Then it would be a scam.

This is called kitten happens. People need to learn the difference.

No, no. This is not the same thing. If a restaurant advertised a certain dish, then I ordered and paid for said dish and then they only brought me half of it and told me I could have the rest in 6 months, maybe if they don’t change their minds by then.
That would be the same thing.

Or if you went into a restaurant and ordered chicken. That’s it. Just chicken and the condition was you had to pay for it up front and they would make it however they felt like and you had to eat it, even if it was some way you didn’t like.

Point being, Anet should have prepared the exac, advertised exactly what was in it and charged for it. Not make promises and/or wishy washy statements about whats to come and expect people to pay for it and be happy with whatever they get.

Okay then. A politician makes a promise. He says I’m going to get this law passes. At the time he makes the promise the senate is republican. Then he gets into office but at the same time, the congress is no longer republican and he can’t pass the law. It’s not fraud. It’s changing circumstance.

Do you have any evidence that when those legendaries were announced, Anet had no intention of delivering them?

Not the same either, unless it was your hard earned money that bought that politician and his promises.

You’re confusing a product bought and paid for but only partially delivered with a restaurant changing its menu (before you buy something) and a politician trying to get elected. Those are awful analogies.

It’s simple, really. They gave us a list of things we were getting for our money. We paid our money for the list. They shortened the list after they pocketed our money. This isn’t right regardless of the reasoning. I’m not going to make excuses for a business where it is their business to accurately plan and produce something they can actually deliver. It’s called good planning and follow-through. Not knowing what you can actually do before you take the money is bad business no matter how you slice it.

Legendary weapons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Celtic Lady.3729

Trying to say that legendary weapons are niche content that almost no one does is simply ridiculous and a faslehood. A casual romp through the game itself and all the people with their legendaries is proof that this content is, in fact, widely used.

Legendary weapons have always been considered “endgame” content in a game where there is no traditional endgame content. It was content that was supposed to keep people busy long term. It’s a big part of the game. The announcement of new legendaries was very well received and highly anticipated.

The only reason people are saying it doesn’t matter anymore, from what I can tell, is because Anet suddenly needs this content to be unused due to their recent decision and fanboys everywhere need this content to be unused because they need to keep supporting the game’s decisions for some reason I’ll never understand.

But this point of view is very new. Legendaries have always been considered core content and widely used before the infamous announcement.

I tend to agree with you. And if Anet DID stop producing content and shut down the servers, they’d do it a week after taking pre-purchase money in the neighborhood of $100 from their players for a fabulous new expansion.

And yeah, the fanboys and White Knights would be happy about it because they’d be convinced Anet had a good reason for their actions. Go figure.
