We could ask you to go score 5 goals in keg brawl or complete 3 jumping puzzles as one of the achievement reward categories, since they are now optional, rather than mandatory.
But…but…but Colin! EVERYTHING in GW2 is OPTIONAL!!!!
ROFL Even a GW2 developer understands the basic difference between “optional” and “required” in the context of a gaming environment.
He must be smarter than the average bear…
The people that actually go out and have to grind the daily just aren’t playing the game.
Many of them are actually.
The way I look at it these days is, it could be worse. I liked the original dailies better, but I can still get these new ones done. At least I don’t have to complete 5 jumping puzzles, complete 5 dungeon runs in 15 minutes or less, or craft 5 legendaries for my daily.
Or buy a lot of gems and buy it from the gem store.
^This.
Zero RNG, zero luck, zero work.
It’s a win, win, win situation.
Can someone provide a link showing why anyone would assume this has been changed?
Also, you can craft rings and amulets in addition to earrings, though most folks are going to spring for the ascended items of these, I’m guessing.
To be fair, I have met some REALLY bad warriors. As word has gotten out that warrior is THE profession to play, there seems to have been a spike in new players choosing it. Lately, I’ve seen more bad warriors than bad rangers.
Is Lionguard Auda actually working over there? I’ve been trying to get her Sticky Bread cooking recipe for weeks in my world and it’s always a no-go.
Culling is noticeably worse for me now than before. I’ve begun using lower pop worlds for Orr so that I can actually see what’s happening during an event.
Ah, okay. Gotcha. Thanks for clarifying.
Tybalt is so great! He’s my fave order partner, for sure. I’d rather Traherne had died heroically at Claw Island than Tybalt.
Well, I can certainly understand the sentiment, but adding new jumping puzzles to the game isn’t going to be entertaining for me. lol
Although, the concept of a dungeon that is basically nothing more than a huge jumping puzzle is interesting.
Maybe you’ll see these added eventually.
That’s what you’ve called everyone: a liar.
Fact: People lie on the internet. They often use screenshots and pictures to do it. It would be naive to believe everything you see on the net. Is anyone in this thread lying or posting misleading pictures? Maybe. Maybe not. We don’t know.
This sounds more like"I can’t finish the WvW completion in one sitting so it is unfair".
I really don’t see this attitude here at all. Many players in this thread have expressed their frustration after waiting weeks for their chance to finish their maps. I know a couple of players that have been waiting months to finish theirs. No one is saying they want to finish their WvW maps from start to finish in an afternoon, so I’m not sure where you’re getting this.
Endgame exotics and ascended gear can be acquired via:
Karma vendors in Orr (exotics)
Crafting (exotics)
Fractals of the Mists dungeons (ascended back pieces & rings)
Regular exploratory dungeons throughout Tyria (exotics)
Daily and monthly laurels (ascended rings & amulets).
Of course, you can also buy your exotics from the TP if you have some coin to work with. There are various ways in the game to make money if you want more, such as running dungeons and farming in Orr.
I love all the story segments prior to “Traherne-land.” Once I choose my order, the story begins to feel very boring and stale to me. The story feels less about my character and her life and more about following Traherne around and listening to his monologuing. I love the storylines based on race and choices made in character creation. These are definitely my favorite. The charr characters in the stories are often hilarious and there are some really funny norn and asura story arcs, too. By level 30, it’s less about enjoying the story and more about “just get through it and get done” while making jokes about Traherne with my guildies. lol
I wonder how well small guilds will fare with these compared to large guilds…?
I don’t run dungeons very often, although the last time I did, I was playing my engineer and I ran support. At the end of the run, which was relatively smooth, one of the members made the comment that, “Wow, the engineer was actually useful!” This comment led me to believe that, while I wasn’t kicked out, this person clearly doubted my being in the group would amount to anything. lol
I’ve heard other players say that engineers, thieves, rangers, and necromancers are the “underdogs” when it comes to dungeons, so I assume this is the reason you’re experiencing problems. I’ve also been told that if I want to do dungeons more, I should be playing a warrior, guardian, mesmer, or elementalist.
Happy Valentine’s Day and Happy Singles Awareness Day.
Aren’t you doing exactly the same? You generalize from your limited perspective and try to attest a global problem when there may be none. Or maybe there is. His/her opinion and observations are in no way less relevant though.
I have never “attested to a global problem.” lol Quote where I said this, please.
I believe “playing wrong” refers to people who use systems that are inefficient in GW2.
Well, this definition depends on the person using it. For some folks, yes, that is what it means. For others, it means that a given player is not playing the game the way they themselves play or the way they perceive A-net expecting them to play.
I’ve been told that I’m “playing wrong” if I don’t run dungeons, daily fractals, PvP, WvW, or do jumping puzzles. Heck, I’ve been told I’m “playing wrong” if I craft! lol
This definition really is subjective.
i like how your argument makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. but you made me chuckle.
I’m not really sure why you are having trouble understanding how your friend getting rares has nothing to do with anyone else’s experience. This is a thread about drop rates, which people are discussing because their experience is that they are low. You parading pictures (which can be doctored, anyway) does not change anyone else’s experience. Someone that gets 20 rares in a run is not going to make any difference to another person getting zero in a run. It does not “prove” anything about drop rates or anything else.
If you are having trouble understanding points of view different from yours, well, I really don’t know what to say. lol You make me chuckle.
Yeah, I think it’s an MMO thing not a GW2 thing, really. No matter what a person’s playstyle is or how much they love a game, there’s always the potential for running out of things to do, either because you’ve already done everything you really enjoy or you grow bored with repeating what there is to do. For now, the dailies keep me logging in, but my play time overall has dropped since I’ve finished my main more or less and alts are starting to become tedious.
I don’t blame GW2 so much as the nature of the genre itself.
While the cache is great for your friend, one player getting 22 rares doesn’t mean anything to a player that isn’t getting any rares. Someone could link evidence of 1,000 rares in a single afternoon, but it wouldn’t mean anything to players not getting the same. Personal experience is going to trump online pictures any day.
Also Hercules was only a hero because he was extremely strong and was otherwise a horrible person. All of his trials were undertaken out of extreme guilt for what he had done to his family.
I think he was talking about the Disney version. lol
I’m not sure where to put this, so I will put it here. There is nothing here which is constructive in itself, only in that it gestures for the development staff at ArenaNet to look at the thoughts of others scattered throughout these forums. With that said, this is not an attack -however, if people would like to construe it as such, it’s the most polite in the history of verbal attacks.
Now, to the meat of it.
I have absolutely no desire to log into my Guild Wars 2 account and I do not believe that giving any rationale as to why will help anything. I do not believe that ArenaNet can or will do anything to make Guild Wars 2 better than the visually stunning yet remarkably mediocre and needlessly buggy game that it has been since launch.
That I do not believe anything can or will be done to fix the plethora of issues people have diligently compiled, spoken of politely and typed in rage-filled bursts should be telling and taken to heart. Sadly, I am quite sure that it will be locked and dismissed as simply more forum vitriol -nevermind the jokes that will come from my handle.
If people can find pleasure in Guild Wars 2 I am happy for them, I truly am. I don’t think that they’re somehow less of a person for it and I don’t think I’m superior for not being able to find pleasure in Guild Wars 2.
That’s all I will say on the matter and I can only hope that respondents and CMs are polite, that this thread is left open and that it is taken to heart. I’m not the only one that has lost faith in what was once an amazing developer and, unfortunately, I don’t think that I will be the last.
Best of luck to you, Guild Wars 2 players and ArenaNet.
Is it possible that you are wanting a more traditional MMO experience? GW2 breaks a lot of molds and longtime MMO players may have a bit of culture shock in coming to this game. If the bugs are really, um, bugging you, it’s possible that many of these will be fixed eventually (achievement bug, I’m looking at you), as this really is a rather new MMO.
On the upside, there are a lot of great new games coming out this year, so at least you’ll possibly have plenty to do if you decide this game simply isn’t for you.
To get better gear, you can go for exotics, which you can get by farming karma in Orr and through dailies and monthlies and buy it from the vendors in Orr at all the temples. Or you can run any of the dungeons and get exotic gear from them; there are online resources to show you what each dungeon set looks like and such. Or you can craft exotics if crafting is your thing. There is also exotic gear available in WvW if that is something you like.
Other than exotic weapons, armor, and jewelry, you can get ascended gear that is better than exotics. Ascended gear is available by doing the Fractals of the Mists dungeon in Lion’s Arch and by doing your dailies for laurels. The fractals dungeon can help you get your ascended rings and back piece, and laurels can get you ascended amulets and rings. But that’s all the ascended there is so far, but they’ll be adding more in the game later.
Finally, you can go for legendary weapons if you want cool-looking weapons like that. Legendary weapons are a lot of work unless you simply buy them off the Trading Post, but it gives you something to do if you like an involved task to accomplish.
Quaggans are kind of cute, I suppose, but personally, I think skritt are way cuter than quaggans.
“Oooh, shinies!”
“I look good, right? Seeexy!”
Also, if you’ve played for 2000 hours in 5-6 months …then…you may need a break.
I LOL’d at this. Struck me funny for some reason. I’m prolly tired. Anyone remember the beta weekends at first when we’d get this message after every hour or so of gameplay that we’d been playing long enough and should go do something else? So glad they removed that before the game launched. lol
Anet will most likely fix this bug.
Well, I hope you’re right, Pharm. Best wishes.
At this point, 5 months in, I’m really mostly playing in the evening and doing my dailies. I have an alt I’m working on, but that’s pretty slow going. Occasionally, I go out and farm Orr for a while. I’ve gotten kinda bored, so I’m waiting for the update to see what’s new.
I’d go with the members of Destiny’s Edge. It would have been nice to see more of them in the game than we did.
I don’t see any crying about the ‘game not being customised to my imagining’.
Unfortunately, if you spend any amount of time on these forums and make suggestions for the game or simply express your feelings on a topic, you will be inundated with comments like, “Gameplay is optional” (No! Really?!) and “Don’t be a crybaby that wants everything handed to you.” (Well, there was that one time when A-Net reached through my screen and handed me a cookie…)
These comments are best interpreted as, “I have nothing intelligent to bring to this discussion. Mkay, thanks.”
tinny Broadway music
This is the hypermarket. Yes, we have no bananas. Thank you and have a nice day.

Well, most level 80s I know do things like get their 100% world completion (if they don’t have it), run fractals (if they can stand it), do their dailies, play SPvP or WvW regularly, run dungeons for armor sets, grind gold or mats for their exotics, etc. I guess it comes down to what you already have done and what you still want to work towards.
When I see a person having a legendary, my thoughts aren’t “Wow, awesome achievement”, the line popping up is “Wow, a truly lucky person”
lol When I see someone with one, my thought process is more like, “Wow, there’s someone that used gems to buy gold to buy their legendary.”
Either way, skill and gameplay are not requirements for them.
Yeah, I suppose something for 1v1ers would be nice. I don’t do much sPvP but it’s hardly encouraging that, when I do step into a map, I’m invariably screamed at and cussed at for daring to enter a map where 2 people are 1v1ing. The map generator often throws me into maps like this even when I’ve chosen one that features 10 or 15 people.
Since the reset time is so awkward, I have to be careful not to begin work on each daily until it turns over at 6 or 7 pm. and then I work on them. Makes playing kind of a late proposition, but I do my best all things considered.
There are certain crafting grinds that could be made easier either by increasing the drop rate on specific items or reducing the number needed to craft a specific piece. Some crafting recipes have simply obnoxious requirements. lol
Of course, this advice is for the “reduce grind” camp. Honestly, I have yet to meet someone that likes a lot of grind in their crafting.
lol I’ve noticed this while crafting in DR. This one woman sighs, gasps, or whatever literally over and over and over with no break in between.
It’s highly annoying to say the least.
It really is possible.
Nobody is saying TESO being a success isn’t possible. We’re saying it’s too early to tell. Star Wars is a massive name with millions of fans worldwide. That didn’t translate into spectacular long term numbers for SWTOR. Elder Scrolls being popular now doesn’t mean much of anything for their MMO yet, either.
Also, you and your small circle of friends deciding to play the game means nothing in terms of ultimate success.
Well, stellar storytelling in general has never really been a hallmark of MMOs. The only reason LOTRO has a decent story is because game developers didn’t create the world and basic plotline.
There’s also the fact that the gem shop has few items really worth buying.
You’re right. Gem Store funsies are limited. The real money doesn’t come from quaggan backpacks and broomsticks. It comes from buying gems and then converting gems to in-game gold to buy what you want from the TP.
Therefore, it stands to reason that, overall, in-game gold is going to be a certain amount of work to get so players will just rather buy their gold instead.
Are you kidding me? Junk drops = despair + full bags. lol
I see your point, though.
There will be in the future rewards given based on achievement points. Which means that those of us that lost achievement points today will be getting less rewards unless they fix the mistake.
Lets face it, you don’t make your kind of income doing DEs with MF do you now?
Fact of the matter is you have your own methods entirely outside of farming mobs for drops that gaurantee you a much steadier income, but this is a thread about droprate.
More words.
My computer doesn’t deal well with jumping puzzles, but I still managed to complete the Breached Wall, so that is my favorite. Anything more difficult – forget it.
Living is “optional.”
Does that mean we should all go off ourselves and solve the overpopulation problem?
I think not.
Stupid arguments are stupid.
Being a huge single-player game franchise doesn’t mean that your MMO will sell well.
Or survive well. There’s nothing to say that 5 million initial comers would still be there 1 month, 3 months, or 6 months down the road.
