Yes drop rates are very low in GW 2…
Drop rates are very low in ANY game released in 2012 that had some kind of CASH SHOP where you can buy gold with real money…
The lesson for the future 2013 onwards if a game has a cash shop in any form at all, drop rates are going to be abysmal…
Thats the way the games industry at the top end seems to be going…
Yes but arenanet were meant to be better than that, Instead they’re just turning out to be a typical ‘exploit the player’ developer/
I’m not really sure why we would assume ArenaNet was going to be any different than any other MMO company out there. Because they sell their in-game gold for gems, they’re going to micromanage the game economy to ensure that things are not too easy to get. This shuttles people into the cash shop. They do it because it works. They know that if the pain of achieving something is just high enough to get most people to buy their way into it, they will.
I think it’s about keeping people busy. Too many players were reaching 80, finishing their maps, getting their exotics, and then moving on. This was a way for those folks to keep “achieving” and staying busy. I don’t think most people will do a lot of grinding for cosmetics. Some will, sure, but I doubt it was in the numbers they were hoping for.
I miss the trinity.
I never thought I’d say this, but I find myself missing the trinity approach to groups at times, too. I don’t miss the long wait to find a “tank” or a “healer,” but I sometimes miss the clearly defined roles. Too often, the “everyone can do everything” concept feels “messy” to me, as though players are struggling to figure out what they’re supposed to do in a dungeon.
Still, I applaud GW2 for trying to break the usual mold and do things more creatively, even if what they’ve come up with isn’t exactly my cup of tea.
I lost Dusk! Did anyone else lost their Precursor, too??
(Im obviously being sarcastic lol)
I’m sorry. What is the point of this comment? This is a thread regarding lost achievements. A precursor is not an achievement; it’s an item.
Even as a sarcastic comment, it makes no sense in context.
It’s not an “I want it, make it easy for me” argument.
This is a common accusation that is trotted out in online forums when nothing intelligent can be thought to be said. lol
Yeah, I kind of agree with you. I’d prefer it if the WvW map completion were a separate achievement from the general PvE world map completion. It was a royal pain and it took me a long while to do, but I did finally get my 100% world completion star. lol
So glad that’s over, though.
It is kind of amusing, in a sad sort of way, that I can run around with the Master Carver title when my achievement panel shows that I haven’t carved a single pumpkin. lol
You’re right, I didn’t take your outrageous comment seriously. lol
i’m sitting on 154g as a result of 11 days of running de’s.
Well, I definitely don’t make 154 gold every 11 days simply by running a few DEs.
Sounds like an exploit to me, assuming your numbers aren’t as fuzzy as they look.
Just play the game for fun.
The problem with statements like this is that “fun” is a word whose definition differs for different people. You make the mistake of assuming that what YOU consider to be fun, others will find to be the same. If, by a person’s definition, the “fun” they’re having ends at some point, that does not mean that they are stupid people or that they are “doing it wrong.” It simply means that they have valid reasons for why their fun has ended and yours has not.
It’s great that you’re still having fun, but your experience does not invalidate that of other players that may have finished what they enjoy doing and are doing something else now.
If you don’t like reading opinions that differ than yours, well, don’t go into threads that look like they are making suggestions for improving the game or asking for changes they’d like to see.
After all, no one’s “forcing” you to read these kinds of posts. Reading posts is, after all, completely “optional.”
We are aware that several of the slayer-style achievements have been affected by a recent fix that was implemented to combat an crashing issue.
We are also aware that this may have affected other achievements and if you notice any other achievements that may also be affected feel free to post below, so we can look into them
from what I can tell these were effected by the 1 point loss
Lifetime Survivor
Staff Master
plus 33 of the 39 Slayer (easyer to list the 6 not effected)
Flame Legion’s Bane still 1,000/1000
Zhaitan’s Bane still 1,000/1,000
Giant Slayer 5/10 no change
Jotun Slayer 532/1,000 no change
Ogre Slayer 701/1,000 no change
Plant Slayer 59/1,000 no changethese were comple & did not change
Pistol Master
Teamwork Gets it Done
No One Left Behind
Active Guild Memberwent from 3,7xx to 3,567 achievement points
Pumpken Carving was reset before this
These are different for different people. For instance, my pistol master was complete and is now not complete. Every single slayer achievement reset for me except Zaitan’s Bane and Bat Slayer. Also, many have lost their Golden achievement even though I didn’t.
Many Weapons Master achievements would be a real pain for me to redo, as I no longer have many of the characters I used to complete these achievements in the first place. So, I’d have to make characters I don’t want, craft or buy them all the equipment they’d need, and actively go out and finish these all…again.

You’re right. This game is amazing. I am simply amazed at how many completed achievements I am quite possibly going to be required to redo if I want everything I once had back again.
to lighten up the mood XD
I hope this is not what they mean by encouraging people to go back to abandoned maps XD
Hehe. Methinks ArenaNet has devised a way for all of us players to “have more to do.”
Well, rejoice! ArenaNet has fixed this problem for us by yanking dozens of our achievements out from under us and expecting us to redo them, thereby giving us “more to do.”
No official word yet on whether or not this little fiasco is going to be fixed on their end, but I am anxiously awaiting it.

The trick is to fill a bowl with m&ms and every time you kill a mob you eat one. Or put a bunch of different treats in little bags and grab a bag when you kill something, Ooo I got a good treat that time. Anet isn’t going to reward you, you have to do it yourself.
This. Is. Priceless. lol
I finally had to suck it up and buy my passion flowers from the TP due to a very low drop rate and my lack of interest in spending the next 5 years working on 2 recipes. I did not, however, buy any gold with gems to do it. I simply refuse to go this route for anything in a game.
I’m fine with dueling so long as there is an option to refuse or block all dueling requests. The last thing I want is to get hit on by every Tom, Dick, and Harry that’s bored and looking for a fight.
Does this mean that we have to redo everything or are the staff going to “fix” this so we don’t have to redo it all?
There’s very little I miss from LOTRO, but my house and decorations is one of them. I’d definitely love some form of customizable housing in this game, though I’d prefer it if the decorations and furnishings could be acquired in the game itself through playing as opposed to something bought exclusively from the gems store.
I’ve lost literally dozens of achievements that I’d already completed. Am I seriously expected to redo all of these achievements? How many times in the future will I be expected to completely redo my achievements even if I do them all over again now? This is crazy.

faction armor. cultural armor.
Ugly. Unimaginative.
How do you guys survive dungeons, wvw or even open-world pve without dodging? o.O
As stated previously, it’s not that players don’t dodge. It’s that we don’t always, or even often, dodge in the exact nanosecond required to get an evade. I dodge all the time and my survivability is great regardless of my profession, but I rarely get evades.
I don’t farm karka shells, but I have been farming passion flowers. This is a brutal grind, however. I wish the drop rate for passion flowers was a bit more reasonable.
No, but I would pay to have a name change scroll.
I agree. Of all the armor in the game, I think medium armor is the ugliest, least flattering, least imaginitive, and least diverse.
As near as I can tell, the most basic way to acquire a legendary is to buy gems with real money, convert gems to gold, and then buy the legendary off the TP.
I think this is how we’re all really supposed to do it.
For me, GW2 endgame is called “dailies.”
yes but if some people are spending their money on fast food its better to save it an pay a subscription instead because they are harming their body more by gettin fast food
Sitting on your backside 24/7 in front of a computer is more harmful to one’s body than the occasional drive-through meal.
GO TO SOUTHSUN AND DODGE THE YOUNG KARKA’S 1’st RANGE ATTACK AND YOU WILL GET 5 TOWARDS DAILY. DODGE IS DONE IN EASY 2 MINS.
This is pointless advice for someone that doesn’t do their dailies with a level 80.
No, I wouldn’t. I don’t have enough to keep me busy to justify a regular fee.
I suck at dodging, too. However, if you go to somewhere that has unstable ice cores and hit the dodge button just as the sound effect for its attack triggers, you will achieve foolproof dodges every time. Takes me less than 5 minutes to do it this way.
Trahearne is more plastic than Barbie. He comes across to me as someone incapable of expressing real emotion, real empathy, and real humility. He is neither witty, nor charismatic, nor approachable. He is focused completely on himself and his constant monologuing make me want to break him up into kindling and strike a match.
I hope in the next expansion, he either gets his pathetic kitten killed or he becomes one of the dragons’ newest minion recruits.
In my opinion, anything and everything that is a part of GW2 is fair game for dailies and monthlies.
So, you’d be okay with having to craft a legendary as part of a monthly, say? I mean, legendaries are part of the game and there’s got to be plenty of players that could manage to craft a legendary if given a whole month. lol
Why be lazy?
Interesting. I’ve never seen this phenomenon at resource nodes. On a humorous note, every time I let my seven-year old run around with my characters and kill things, I get reported multiple times for botting. lol
I bet Arena-Net is tired of getting bogus bot reports made on a real player…
You don’t have maybe 10 minutes to run Citadel of Flame path 1? Seriously?
This question assumes that the player you are adressing is familiar with and skilled enough to make the run in 10 minutes. It also assumes, since CoF to my knowledge cannot be soloed, that the player’s party for the run are also similarly familiar with and skilled enough to make the 10-minute run. Every time.
Unless you know that all the above variables are in effect at all times, the question is illogical.
If all the precursors are really owned by only one person that buys every single one going up on the market for less than his/her desired price, there isn’t a lot one can do to affect change. Since one can buy in-game gold with real money, the supply of in-game gold to continue doing this is potentially limitless, assuming the aforementioned person chooses to spend their real-life money on gaming money.
Since it isn’t likely that precursors will become less rare, which would naturally drive the price down, people would simply have to stop buying precursors on the TP altogether so our monopoly holder wouldn’t be able to get a return on their investment. If they were unable to sell a single precursor they’d bought for say, five years, they might be motivated to lower their prices.
Of course, this kind of boycotting venture to affect change would require massive amounts of communication, cooperation, and patience. lol
In other words, it would be achieving the impossible.
As a casual player, this is the first monthly since launch that I’ve actually completed. Amazingly, I have it done already. Not having fractals listed or WvW helped me out since I don’t really do much of those things. The hardest thing for me was the dungeons since basically the only dungeons I do are story modes for my personal story, but with only 5 dungeons required, it was doable for me.
This’ll prolly be the only monthly I ever get, though. lol
Why were Laurel not backdated???
Make mystic coins tradable for Laurels!!!!
130+ coins in bank, I feel ripped off!!!
Yeah, that would have been fun, but the reason most new currencies introduced into MMOs aren’t retroactive is because one of the purposes in introducing the new currency in the first place is to get people to spend time on the game. That purpose is defeated for all but new players unless everyone starts out on an even playing field, thus no retroactive rewards.
Perhaps a minor annoyance with multiple solutions, but another good example of how game mechanics and design decisions affect game culture. There are other problems with the new dailies. It is an artificial behavior to get the daily done, not play the game as you normally would. This was actually one of the good things about the old dailies. I never had to think about them; I just played the game as I normally would and then, maybe, cleaned up kill variety before logging out.
Yeah, I definitely farm my dailies and if the new numbers of players showing up at Metrica Province’s Thaumanova Reactor lately are any indication, I’m not alone. Since I don’t do dungeons or WvW, I farm most of my dailies in Metrica or Caledon Forest, as these maps have ideal locations suitable for fast, efficient completion of most any daily combination.
It’s not how I normally play, but since I’d like to use laurels, it’s how I play now to achieve that goal.
I enjoyed getting my Volunteer title tonight in Wayfarer Foothills and Diessa Plateau. I hadn’t been to those regions for a while, so it was fun to see all the people wandering the zones.
Being intimately familiar with the challenge of “perfect timing” dodging, I found the ice cores in Metrica Province’s Thaumanova Reactor to be ideal for this. The AOEs once you get used to the timing are foolproof.
Yeah, my idea of fun doesn’t include camping Nageling for the next 3 years in order to complete the giant slayer. lol
I seriously hope in an expansion or something that someone will consider adding non-champion giants in greater numbers for this.
I have finally received my first laurel. lol Wow, that was interesting…I did most of it in Metrica Province’s Thaumanova Reactor where it’s easy to get NPC rezes and kill variety. I also found the ice formations that pulsed AOE damage to be helpful in getting the dodges.
Is the old system where you gain a bottle of Karma and a Mystic Coin for grinding out 60-kills (and 15 of them have to be unique creatures) really better than dodging 10 times for a laurel that helps you work towards end-game gear?
As with everything in this game, the answer to that depends on the player. I can kill 60 mobs faster than I have been able to complete this dodge thing. lol People are confusing dodging in general with dodging using perfect timing so as to get the “evade” needed for the daily. I dodge routinely. I just don’t dodge with perfect timing. This is the difference.
People are as likely to enjoy crafting as to enjoy gathering.
I tend to disagree with this one. My own personal experience has been that many more people enjoy gathering than crafting. I know both crafters and non-crafters that enjoy gathering and do it regularly. Crafters, of course, enjoy crafting. Gathering, however, seems to appeal to a wider range of playstyles in general.
I’m going to continue to practice mine with Veteren Oakhearts. Nice big, slow enemy.
Dodging… if you have to try to get that in combat then I don’t know what to tell you. That one happens without thinking.
It doesn’t always, actually. The daily requires a certain timing that some, myself included, don’t “naturally” often hit. I’ve been working on my dodge timing because my “natural” dodge doesn’t include the evade needed for the daily.
No, I like being 80. Although, if they decided to award us more goodies for “leveling” beyond 80, it would be fun to get some coin, karma, the occasional treasure chest with salvage kits, consummables, etc, or new skills.
The possibilities are endless.
Having an unofficial “Orr” server sounds cool. I plan to visit TC first with guesting since I’ve heard it’s busy, but I’m amenable to visiting any other truly busy server, as well.
