Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

I don’t play as much as I used to mostly due to other games having less grind overall than this one getting my attention and money. I’m a crafter and advancing most of my crafts in this one has become too expensive and tedious. I dislike the lack of permanent content that I can complete at my own pace, and I like expansions, so I’ve been playing other games’ permanent additions to their content. Dungeons don’t hold much interest for me, especially since pugging in this game is just a bad idea considering the attitudes and scamming of the playerbase.

I’m sorry about this. What to say? Most MMO players are basically amoral and cruel with no sense of decency? This is “normal” MMO behavior? I laugh when I read all the caveats with grouping in this game. You have to jump through so many hurdles to keep from getting scammed. Game design may be at fault here since you don’t see this happening en masse in other games. Again, sorry. Perhaps the lesson is never run dungeons unless you’re in a guild. Those without guilds I guess should simply steer clear of dungeon content to avoid the time waster.

Also, when will I be able to get the vista in the tower area again? I die every time I go there to get it.

If the threshold for September was reduced to 2, people will not have lost time involved, people who got theirs done are not impacted. It can be flicked to 4 again for October.

Something like this should be done. Ruining something and then claiming you don’t know how to fix it without ruining more things seems pretty unprofessional.

This completely defeats the purpose of giving us monthlies if we only have 2 days to complete them before they are reset again. I had 3 of my 4 monthlies done and now all those achievements have been destroyed. I cannot continue to get my monthlies done if I’m only going to have 2 days each to do them.

For Southsun Cove to be a truly viable and well-used map, they would have to tone down the mobs, revamp the DEs to be small-group friendly, and add more WP, vistas, skill challenges, and hearts for sure. I’m not really sure why they wanted to sink time and effort into a map no one is going to use. That’s just bad business.

I think the reason a lot of people hate doing it is because the whole event chain is really long and one of the last events is easily fallible. And if it fail, oh goodie let’s start all over again.

Yeah, this kind of frustration doesn’t exactly foster an enthusiasm for gameplay.

MMO fans always complain that there’s not enough content. It’s just the way they are. They were doing this long before Dulfy, so I don’t think it would change things much if there were no helps or hints. And for content that comes out so often, many people need that help or they wouldn’t have time to solve everything before the content is completely gone and they didn’t get to enjoy much of it.

Celtic Lady.3729

When I first heard that the Clockwork Chaos DEs were spread over the world’s maps, I thought that meant that each map had its own unique DE, but that wasn’t actually the case. It’s the same DE on every map, and yeah, it tends to become a farm. Can’t say I blame anyone, really. The farm helps keep the tedium at bay on repeats. My biggest problem with these DEs are having such a hard time getting into the ones I want due to the extremely narrow window for joining.

How do we get more ppl into PvE to do events.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Celtic Lady.3729

Good question. A consequence of temporary bimonthly content the way they’ve organized it, is essentially it shuttles everyone into specific areas of the world leaving the rest more or less empty. I know a guy that has been trying to work on his map completions but can’t get several locations around the world because the DEs there have taken over much the same way DEs took over large sections of RIFT’s world. No one’s doing them and the champions prevent people from getting locations and such. Today I was in Wayfarer Foothills, one of the most continuously populated zones in the game and there was no one.

This game ain’t complex… Trust me, I got tales to tell that you entitled kids would not believe.

You do realize that the existence of games more complex than GW2 does not logically follow that this game is not complex, right? All MMO games are complex. They are detailed, involved, large, and ever-changing. Those alone make them complex by definition.

Also, to anyone that has never played an MMO before, they are going to feel that there is a certain amount of complexity in general regardless.

Yeah, it makes no business sense to demotivate their collectors since collecting in general is a big part of the game and is tied to their revenues. I could see a heckuva lot of former collectors that would have shelled out dough for the new mini pack 2 on the gem store simply saying forget it since they can’t complete their collections, anyway. All that lost money. Makes no sense.

Too much content?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Every 2 weeks/month they add an amount of content you can play through in several hours.

This here basically describes my approach to GW2 lately. Used to be every month, but now every 2 weeks, I log in and see what’s up. I play for maybe 2-3 days tops, and then I go back to my other MMOs where I’m still playing through new content that will last me for months. My gaming dollars go to those other games because I’m spending more time there and it makes no sense for me to invest in a game that I’m only playing a max of 5-6 days a month.

While the new updates have me logging in, I’m not spending any money nor am I really contributing to the economy or the community as a whole. That’s not exactly a formula for a healthy MMO future.

How GW2 Appeals To The 'Casual Kid' In Us

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Actually, with all of the temporary 2-week content, there is an “obligation,” if you will, to log in. Also, dailies and monthlies are there to try and get people to log in, so I wouldn’t say that there’s no “encouragement” here to do whatsoever. For many players, missing temporary content repeatedly demotivates them to log in and continue playing the game. They feel they’ve missed so much already, what is the point? So, while I agree GW2 is a fairly casual game in many regards, it’s not quite the utopia of timelessness that you’ve described.

Exotic and Ascended gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

Yes, but giving players something more to work toward outweighed the negatives for the devs. Now there will soon be ascended armor and likely after that, ascended weapons. Used to be that there were so few ascended items that it hardly mattered but once there is ascended everything, the gap will be more pronounced. Dungeons and high-level maps like Orr and Southsun will be easier for ascended gear wearers than exotic wearers and I expect future content to be scaled according to ascended gear numbers.

New Player: 'This game is too complex'

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Celtic Lady.3729

The fact is, MMOs are incredibly detailed games. NES games and even most console/computer games today don’t even come close in complexity. The comparison is pointless. The longer an MMO has been out, the more there is to learn and Wikis don’t always reflect recent changes, making everything even more confusing to the new player. A good MMO developer is going to take into account players that have never played an MMO before rather than assuming everyone is an MMO veteran. This is going to involve explaining things that those here that have played MMOs for years have forgotten all about.

Anet has already stated they are adding tutorials and making the new player experience easier and more informative, so it’s even their opinion that new players should not have to “make do.” Being able to see something from another’s point of view includes shelving your own preferences and seeing another’s. Not everyone wants to hop from the game to google every time they encounter something confusing and there’s nothing wrong with that point of view.

I don’t really care if that makes me sound insensitive to others, especially when they speak about seeing things from anothers point of view but are unable to do so themselves.

Ease of picking up an MMO and playing it without a lot of outside help = revenue and numbers, which is what Anet wants. Being able to understand a game by following a useful progression of in-game teachables does not equate to someone feeling entitled to difficult rewards. It’s not a similar comparison. You’re POV isn’t hard to understand. The attitude is all that comes across as insensitive.

Celtic Lady.3729

Basically, from what I’ve been reading over the last year, Anet doesn’t want to do a traditional expansion, but they also don’t want the community to take the psychological hit it would if they all really believed that there was never going to be anything more than the occasional new mini-game, zerg-farming DE repeatables, and new shinies to match the current mini-update every so often. So, they say it’s a possibility without really making any plans for one.

Wow, that really sucks. I’m sorry for your experience. Hopefully, it’s not a vision of all the gamers here in the near future. So far, I haven’t had this kind of problem overall. For instance, during this update, I’ve been very impressed with how often people fighting a champ or a huge group of Aethers will support one another and rez each other and keep going. A WP isn’t always really close, so it’s nice when players help one another out.

Well, permanent biweekly content would be more useful than temporary for many players, yes, however, I’ll believe it when I see it. So far almost nothing from any of the updates has been permanent. Even the mini-games can’t be played whenever I like. They’re on a rotation.

Is legendary armor coming out

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Celtic Lady.3729

Celtic Lady.3729

They introduced the gear treadmill with the very first ascended item, so it stands to reason that they are going to continually update that system. Adding more ascended items like weapons and armor is a given and has been since the first. After that, they will continually update in the years to come. We already know that ascended items take significant time to acquire, so I figure players will need to take this fact into account with more gear on the horizon.

Expansions tend to be permanent. I can go do a zone two years later with an alt. Not so with the LS. Once it’s gone, so are all it’s achievements and other aspects. I lose the ability to join in because I was busy during that time. Also, brief updates tend to begin to look and feel the same after several months. At that time, fascination with the system starts to show up.

Not really. Expansions are more temporary then not. You say you can do it on an alt, but what’s reality? You pass through, rarely see anyone else and hate the fact that you had to go through that old zone on your way to max.

This is simply not true. Please don’t tell me how I feel or play a game. I appreciate content that I can return to and use months or years later on a game I’m playing and I’m not the only one. Just because YOU do this doesn’t mean the rest of the world does.

If there were no decent loot drops from the zerg events, no one would do them. They are, by nature, repetitive and boring. It’s the farming aspect to them that make players get out there and play them repeatedly once they’ve done it once or twice to see it and hang out with other players initially.
