17k HP? You really sure about this since the video is just of him doing lots of 1v1!
S/D would allow ranged control or more than any other weapon?
Or I need to kill stuff fast or die?
And yes I am lower than 15 and yes I’m comparing to 80 Necro, 60 Thief, 60 Warrior and varying levels of the other professions.
Every other class I have felt powerful right out of the gate except Ele.
I have every other class other than Guardian one of which is 80 and the other is on its way to 80 while the rest are a mix. For my last character slot I decided to try Elementalist!
My gaming experience with this class is so negative I have to reach to the conclusion its me not the class. On its own, or in isolation the class seems ok BUT as soon as I reflect to my gaming experience while playing ANY of the other classes in lots of different roles Elementalist appears to be this horrible leveling class that can’t do anything particularly well.
Can any one tell me how can I play this class as ranged/control? Thief, Necro and Ranger all are more than capable of AE kiting and are outstanding single target kiters/control classes. Can Ele do that?
We have mobility and stealth, you can always drop down and hug the wall and use your Bow, people see you vanish! Use Bow to run away!

Using this build at the moment and I do not use Infusion of Shadow and have yet to come up with any issue with Initiative mainly because I use Initiative exclusively for C&D.
Obviously the choice of which major trait to use can and should always be changed depending on what you are doing -should go without saying. In solo play or group play, roamer or DPS assist. PvE group play or Orr farming and so on.
As for Runes what are your choices? Undead?
Looking for input after my last try, what do you think of this P/P build?
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mcRo0kVzMomRGmogRGm0xG0GzskMRoa8khT707khT70c7kNj70V7owY70m
24.500 health
3000 Attack
3000 Armor
32.7% crit chance (27% + 5.7% from signet mastery)
175% crit damage
12 seconds of Protection (-33% dmg) when you are down to 50% health.
I accept your criticism, it makes sense and I think moving those points out of regeneration would be wise.
As for utility since its a pet focused build why not go for shouts?
Something I came up quick before Mox posted, Ill go look at his build but woudl appreciate feedback:
Support my pet is actually what I enjoy and going into it I imagined something like WoW BM Hunter in the sense that it works and works really well!

I saw game play of you getting your back side handed to you! You seen how fast your HP fell!
Look its natural at this stage of a new MMO people spec more into DPS stats, as soon as they start investing more into PvP minded stats this build is over.
I really don’t want to waste my time if BM is not as solid as any Ranger build in PvP and PvE :/
Tried that build weeks ago, you won’t be able to kill anything and with 1k Toughness any well balanced DPS will kill you in seconds DS or not.
Whats the CD on 100b and whats the CD and duration on Zephyr! GS is not a DPS weapon, it is designed to put out lower damage because it is defensive in nature! Even when traited you are MUCH better off using a 1h Sword.
If you want to melee go play Warrior, Ranger can use melee weapons but is much more effective with ranged primary weapon.
You may be able to kite 1 melee but without using Overload your damage is so low you will hit 80 just about when humans figure out how to travel at the speed of light!
You can’t completely mitigate something that can be re applied between C&D stealth which is about 5 sec. The build revolves around outlasting your foe and no class can chain remove Conditions!
This build chips away at your foe, Vulnerability, Weakness, Poison, Bleed, Fumble, Root, Snare, X number of Bleeds and every 3sec to 5sec you stealth for about 3sec.
What’s amazing about C&D is its up all the time and what many of us use when they Stomp a downed player. You stand just outside of melee hit box and C&D as you move in!
Hello Engineers,
Solo roaming with 3 kits, Power/crit/thougness/Vita (in this order)
Hope you like it!Obeet

If you spec BM your foe will still go for you, can you really play BM in PvP against foes that are on the move and always focusing you?
Any feedback is appreciated on Weapon choice, I noticed that Great Sword and Sword as well as Survival are the things available in BM, Toughness and Vitality Traits, is that how you spec and play?
SlicGW uploaded some P/D WvW and sPvP videos. His build is in the description.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnqE7xnqsyI&feature=relmfu
Moreover; go to his channel page he has more videos and a newer one.
P/D is a powerful build that plays well in PvP and PvE but it needs to be played as MELEE! C&D need to be used often and avoided only tactically when being ranged is of greater value.
I almost never use any Initiative consuming ability other than C&D and what that build has is huge lasting power.

What do you think of the rifle build I use:

Bad link. Cant tell ya.
Copy and paste th elink.
Rifle Warrior does more damage overall? I wanted to start a Ranger alt but if that statement is correct no thank you SIR! Rifle Warrior is so low my Condition Necro kills faster in PvP and PvE!
If that wasn’t bad enough my Pistol/Dagger Thief kills even faster than my necro and has amazing mobility!
So why exactly would I play Ranger?
Which is the best pet and weapon choice for condition build?
condition is in toughness tree which has a trait to reduce survival skills CD by 20%, survival skills are focused on control and conditions as well as stun break.
I realized that pets in GW2 are not like pets in other MMO’s like WoW. In WoW a Hunter pet is a DoT and you can spec as Beast Master and do well in PvP because the pet sticks to its target.
In GW2 the pet is designed to act somewhat like a player in as far as much as it will be out of attack range often unless the foe decides to stand still -which does not happen in PvP unless you want to insta die.
So, my question is BM a solid choice for PvP or as solid of a chocie as it is for PvE?
Nerf something that the player base has all bu written off?
Feedback is hard because game play footage was so one sided, I was looking too see if the build has the same ‘control’ power as dagger but can’t really tell.
No I think I know what he is talking about, Ive hit a target with C&D and not stealthed, and yes it did hit because I saw the damage hit. Its weird but sometimes it happens unless Im missing something.
When you stealth and then attack you can not stealth again for 3sec that’s why you see a ‘IMMUNE’ on your screen.
I was just wondering why a ranged build still needs to go melee and its not like its once in a while, unless you are pretty much keeping C&D on CD your damage will be poor.
I expected Necro to excel at minions and life leech!
Thanks for the reply, I have already crafted Carrion.
Current build:
http://www.guildhead.com/skill-calc#mckMzc0z0MMxvMMMxvMx0GG0mRboscR
Obviously its not cast in stone option wise but the numbers per trait line are fixed -as in I never change them.
as for C&D that is pretty much the only thing I use initiative on unless I have 3 or 4 targets then I use dagger throw -think its called dancing daggers.
C&D is kept on CD unless the boss is really nasty and I haven’t figured out when to dodge.
As for rune not sure yet, go for cond duration or cond damage?

P/D is a condition spec or not? Meaning most of its damage comes from what?
I use C&D on CD -Cloak & Dagger- as to go into stealth, blind my target and get the #1 finisher which to me is really cool because in PvE it just mitigates loads of damage and PvP absolutely messes people up! I more or less chain it minus the 3 sec stealth CD.
I notice a huge drop in DPS when I do not C&D so how should I gear and what runes to use?
Is this the spec for condition engineer both pvp and pve?
Cookie cutter condition PvP/PvE build, how do you all feel about it today?
Also, in PvP. Look under Free Tournaments.
I looked under Free Tournament and its the ‘Rugged’ set!
So to get that set I would need to do what exactly? Win any tournament or just join one or?
Thanks guys, its the Karma Set colored black.
Also the PvP Rank +10 has a similar kind of set.
Bump for any one who can confirm.
Check this armor out
Something has to give its a double tax on P/D as it stands.
P/D RANGED
1) C&D is melee
2) C&D can fire when foe is out of melee range
3) No stealth
4) Initiative used up
Melee Thief plays in melee range, of course you could always argue it is the intention of game designers that P/D plays in melee!
Some how I see P/D as a ranged set up…
What about the Pistol/Dagger setup, would it not be better to have the range of C&D extended if you equip a Pistol?
Cloak & Dagger stabs foe and then stealth costing X Initiative, if foe is not in range the animation will charge and the use up the Initiative but the Thief will not stealth.
Bug or not?
Every other GW2 ability fires even if a foe is not in range but Thief has a different resource system and if the intent is for the ability to fire and use up Initiative it should stealth the Thief.
Is this the head: Rugged Helm:
http://www.gw2db.com/items/50715-rugged-helm
Can’t find any info on how to get it?
PS I haven’t looked at Karma vendors yet.
Could some one link the skin that he is using? Especially the head.
Wait until you go up against a 2xxx Toughness Mesmer running S/P or S/S.
He changed the build to GS+S/P and hes asked about S/S.
That or just game play of 2xxx Toughness game play.
Hi,
PvP Mesmer come in two form today, the 9xx – 11xx Toughness and the 2xxx Toughness. The 9xx Toughness play GS/Staff + Sword-Pistol. The 2xxx Toughness use Staff + Sword-Pistol and few use the S/S+S/P setup.
We have seen many game play clips for the 9xx Toughness type but none for the 2xxx Toughness types, if any knows of such a clip please link it.
Thanks
I’d like to understand why is the GS #2 bounce at such a short range so much so I need to be just about in melee range and NOT strafing to have a good chance of getting the Might buff? Its is so vital to the performance of the weapon that its is mandatory. Without the Might stacks GS is sub par damage wise.
Change the Might mechanic so it is not dependent on the bounce for the Mesmer but do not remove the bounce as to give utility to the group.
It seems odd that something as basic as ‘Preview’ item before buying it from traded is not possible :/
I guess its my fault for assuming GW2 would have entry level dungeons that I could explore while leveling, say from level 25, that would be a good way to learn dungeon / class mechanics and get some cool looking gear early on if only for skin mostly.
If it was the design intent to make the above available it has failed. At level 25 or even 30 the very first Dungeon is designed in a way that unless you are high level no one wants you and for good reason.
Sad really, as a gamer I have realized that if I want entry level group play its WoW and that’s it. WoW has content for the casual and the hard core….You’d think Anet would have learned to at least allow some dungeon content for every one.
