From the patch notes: "If there is a change in which worlds are being used for matchmaking purposes (such as when world links change), matchmaking falls back on the usual Glicko rating sort (plus a potential deviation-based shuffle). "

if you’re not rank 3000 by now, there’s no way in seven realms of oblivion and the gazing abyss behind it that you can complete the wooden chest in one week.

No need for the hyperbole. I finished Silver on an account with rank 780 in 6-8 hours of WvW by getting either 3 pips per tick (2 for rank, 1 for third place) or 8 with outnumbered buff.

Yep, would be nice if we could buy some other stuff with badges, but I’m glad they added the cultural skins cuz I have yet to obtain all of those.

In PVP, you want the backpiece (a long term goal), where that’s actual skill than a zerg bukkakke, you get awarded pips and go through the ranks accordingly based on how well you do, which eventually leads to the backpiece in two seasons or three.

Let’s not be misleading though since zerging occurs in sPvP too. Zerging is more likely to result in a loss though because sPvP’s teams are of equal size make zerging inefficient.

Additionally sPvP teams that are well-matched in skill but suffer from a DC can end up losing due to the same population imbalances that are normal for a WvW match. Teams that are outnumbered in sPvP but higher in skill than the other team can still manage to pull off a win.

It would be foolish to say the same thing doesn’t happen in WvW when a smaller group of higher skill can pick apart a lower skilled but more numerous zerg or force the enemy zerging to be inefficient by out-rotating just because it is more difficult to notice. WvW matches are far longer and team sizes, skill, and composition constantly fluctuates through-out the match unlike in sPvP.

It’s not misleading, you can’t zerg in PvP and except to do well. You need to have proper composition, and know how to properly rotate the map accordingly to the weaknesses and strengths you’re facing with the different match-ups within. Even more, if you’re a good player paired with another good player you can out rotate and exploit the weaknesses of the opposing team. WvW besides zerg busters is just a bukkakke fest where you make sure you have proper classes for frontline and backlines with pushing properly with your commander. Acting as if a rank in that game mode is prestigious is a joke.

Teams that zerg in sPvP can and do win matches against players less skilled than them despite being teams of equal size.

I feel like you didn’t really digest anything I wrote about why zerging doesn’t work in sPvP, why it does in WvW, and how a team can still out-rotate in WvW. Then you jumped off on some tangent about rank as prestige, something I never said. I suspect it is you who think the WvW skins are supposed to represent prestige and that’s why all this bothers you. Like, the claim tickets are time-gated to 175 per week anyway. As has been pointed out, it will take roughly two years worth of claim tickets even for veterans to get all the skins. What prestige is being gotten by having higher rank now rather than two years from now?

We asked to be rewarded for loyalty to our servers and instead ended up with a bonus for continuing to play every week, that’s as good as it’s gonna get with this pip.

It is actually better than a loyalty pip because I’m sure you also have seen players in WvW recently who used to play WvW years ago but stopped. Why reward them for being on the same server but not having played WvW when you needed them? :p

I care. Because we’ve seen botting before early on in WvW, like entire zergs of bots escorting yaks so Anet nerfed the karma and xp being granted for escorting yaks to the point where real players didn’t escort anymore.

Your all total trolls if u can’t read plainly what I wrote in the op. There is nothing in this game except wvw reward system which locks rewards behind 2000 hours of game mode specific gameplay.

There is no mechanic in game which translates hours played into a massive reduction of weekly hours required to earn rewards. Everything I have been posting are analogies and examples of how this doesn’t exist in any other game mode.

They need to add these systems of game mode specific dedication to pve and spvp which translates into exclusive rewards or more profitable/efficient rewards for dedicated players in order to balance it out (which I hope they don’t because then the game will be a grind fest.) Or remove the grind and ridiculous requirements from wvw since this game was marketed as a no/low grind mmo.

Please start a new account if there is nothing similar to prove your claims.

I said you get more rewards for having maxed out fractal masteries than someone who hasn’t. Time-gated items like fractal journal pages and WvW claim tickets are time-gated. No one gets more. It is really sad when a 7k hour player who should know better about time-gated items misrepresents them.

But since i played in pve for 7k hours I should get that 4-5x as fast as someone who did not play pve, even though we are both starting out in fractals and on the same page. And we run fractals the same amount in the same party together.

But you do! If you have already done enough other PvE to fill out your Fractal masteries with the XP gain and mastery points, those give extra rewards when playing Fractals, not to mention higher magic find % from AP reward chests. I’m sorry you do not understand PvE either.

Maybe, just maybe, ANet designed PIPS to reward players for actually playing WvW. Those that actually play WvW rank up a lot faster than those who don’t.

Exactly. As was pointed out by someone else on this forum, The Mists War is an Eternal War. It was never designed to be teams of equal size where “skill” could be measured. Anet needed to implement changes to the entire game mode to encourage players to keep playing, even when losing. A time-based rank system is a perfectly acceptable method by which to encourage players to keep playing.

populaion balance is a different issue.

Population balance is not a different issue. It is the core reason that bonus pips are based on WXP rank. It is the core reason there is nothing in WvW comparable to Platinum or Legendary divisions in sPvP and there is no “skill” mechanic to measure in WvW, no bonus pips for winners of zerg v zerg fights. I’m sorry you fail to understand WvW.

They are not valid because – see my earlier post. It is very disingenuous to make an argument that everyone should get same pips when not even base pips (in both WvW and sPvP) are awarded the same. It means you don’t really care about everyone getting same pips, only in taking away bonus pips, when the real issue is the slow progression for base pips. But we all know you’re not going to make an argument that way.

I don’t think the 5 pips for outnumbered is a bit much because a lot of us who have been playing this game mode a long time have all been there where morale is low because you are basically hopelessly outnumbered and outskilled. The five is meant to be a big incentive to keep playing under those circumstances and unless you’ve been in that situation it is difficult to empathize.

On the other hand, with 1-up-1-down matchmaking, that huge incentive to keep playing may not be needed as much because theoretically you won’t be in those situations where a single server gets overstacked yet stuck with you for months on end due to glicko issues. The current WvW devs were not charged with WvW back when those extremes in matchmaking occurred.

Also, whenever a new player joins the game, all players shall restart their level from 1, all gears and materials in storage are removed to ensure level playing field. It is not fair veteran players can farm the gold faster than new players. It is only fair.

Reward pips for actively accomplishing things in wvw instead of passive things like wvw rank or the outnumbered buff. Moreover, so long as pips continue to be tied to the world’s most lenient participation mechanic, AFKHeroes taking up que spots will continue to reign.

Escort a dolyak? Get a pip.
Take a camp? Get a pip.
Kill at least 1 opposing player in the span of a 5min skirmish? Get a pip.
Take a tower? Get two pips.
Take a keep? Get three pips.
Take a T3 keep? Get seven pips.
Defend objectives? Get pips.

This is nothing more than elitists seeing there is something they do not have over other players wanting it taken from them. So I really hope that anet sticks to the current setup with ranks and pip acquisition. Especially since without the rewards these players complaining about it would never have had any interest in the game mode.

I think we can separate out this conversation from the “elitists” trying to take something from other players such as the OP’s post and a more constructive discussion regarding the high weekly time requirement it takes with only base pips.

I don’t mean for identification purposes during fights.

I just think it would be a neat addition if the color of the banners on the item changed to represent your server’s current color in that week’s matchup. (both inside and outside of the WvW maps)

Interesting idea, but so many fashion meta players would not be happy. Making backpieces dyeable instead would work and make everyone happy.

I would argue that the main issue is the slow progression with the base number of pips that causes a new player or new to game mode player to have to play an inordinate amount of time compared to other game modes. That makes much more sense than trying to push the “same rewards” argument and attack other players for having played this game mode more than you.

If you aren’t including the “new to guild wars” player/account, you don’t have any argument about “new to game mode” either. Saying they don’t count is a clear attempt to dismiss the bonuses towards rewards that you get for having an older “built up” account. Those making a claim about getting same rewards in other game modes should prove that claim by making a new account. We can already predict it won’t be “same rewards” because of features like account-based magic find which increases chance of getting rare drops and more valuable crafting materials!

I don’t intend to change your mind. I intend to show everyone reading this the flaws of your argument by taking it to its logical conclusion.

Moreover, why are you attacking just the rank bonus pips when the base pips also provide differential pip gain? When the loyalty pip bonus comes into effect, will you also post about how unfair that is?

This question has been answered already in this thread numerous times in various ways. Waste of time to keep repeating it at this point if readers like yourself keep ignoring those answers.

Why don’t you go obtain one of those free-to-play accounts and show us all how you are able to be completely new and do the same as vets, get the same rewards with it “quick”? Don’t forget to include magic find, gold, and mastery bonuses! I wonder how long it will take to build the karma to unlock all the karma vendor skins…

Maybe you are right and Anet should reset everyone’s karma back to 0 when they release new karma vendor items whenever a new Living Story map is rolled out. It would only be fair to new players!

Xera without ley-line gliding? Well no, you can’t participate without ley-line gliding (well, you can get carried or semi exploit, but let’s leave that aside), you’re locked out so you naturaly don’t get rewards.

You don’t get to leave that aside simply because it doesn’t fit your argument. All the other things I listed also have ways of getting around including WXP gain. You can run boosters and go farm WXP rank in EOTM that are not reflective of your time spent learning WvW maps and strategies at all. Can PvP do that? If you don’t have catapult shield bubble, you can stand by and let a player who does have that unlocked use it and you are still getting WXP and loot from the capture (something sPvP doesn’t have – i.e. no loot bags per player kill). In the end, a new player still needs to take the time and effort to farm XP and gain the HoT mastery points in order to unlock all HoT content and be able to “do the same” as veteran player. It doesn’t take “only 20 minutes” nor should WvW.

I also like how no one who is trying to argue about “doing the same” has addressed that base pips are awarded based on score. You can’t attack veteran bonus pips with this flawed argument while ignoring the base pips. Aren’t all three teams “doing the same”?

No one is against rewarding veteran wvw players based on their rank or whatever metric fits them.

I thought it was a good example but ok –

Fractals – Why should a level 100 get more reward than a level 1 if that person has the gear to complete level 100?

Skill Points – Why should a character who collected all skill points from map exploring unlock full elite spec sooner than a character who hasn’t?

PVP – At start people could unlock better skins with a higher rank but it all changed a while ago. Rewards could change again when the updates arrive.

Legendary – Why should people who saved gold and collected mats create new legendary weapons sooner than someone who has none?

Raid – Why should people who has 999 LI can find a group easier then someone with only 2 LI?

WvW had a really poor reward system but still the loyal WvW people still continue to play WvW even though they have not been happy with the reward system. This system was needed since day 1 to reward loyal WvW players. Why should all loyal WvW players start back down at the bottom of the rewards scheme when they already put a lot of time into WvW? Loyal WvW should not have to invest double the time more than a new WvW player to gain a higher rewards when those people did not care/bothered about the WvW before. Now they have improved the WvW rewards with unique skins etc and now the new WvW players are moaning that the loyal players should start at the bottom like them.

1º Fractals- You are comparing a lv 100 fractals with a lv 1? If thats the case, its obvious that a lv 100 fractals should be more rewarding, thats not what it is up to debate, but the fact is that if two diferent players complete whatever is a lv 100 or lv 1 they will get both the same rewards.

2ºHero Points- Yes, someone who have map comp will be able to unlock(or get really close to it) a full elite espec…but the diference between hero points per hero challanges are diferent for a veteran player then it was for a new player? Example: I as veteran would get 5 hero points for a Hero Challange where a new player would get only 1 hero point for the same Hero Challange?

3ºPvP- Rewards on PvP used to be skins for PvP only use(couldnt use your PvE skins on PvP), titles and finishers. With the introduction of the Wardrobe, Anet did awarded PvP players with all the skins they had on the game mode to be used on PvE, also transmutations charges. But still, these same players dont have a boost on the Reward Track or the pips gain during the League.

4ºLegendary- Honestly your arguments make no sense at all…its obvious that someone who plays this game since 2012 will have more then enough materials to craft a legendary weapon…but the point is that if a new account or a old account start to farm they will most likely end up with the same results(even if the old account would have a high magic find and a extra % on gold gain).

5ºRaid- Here you talking about someone getting accepted on Raid easier then someone else…this is a human behavior not imposed by the Raid System, just like on the old days people would kick you out for not using full berzerker gear , even if most of the dungeons can be easily soloed.

All of the game modes when compared to what they used to be to what they are now, you will realize that by today standards they were all terrible unrewarding, thats a fact.
This whole thing just show how selfish some people are, its hard to believe that someone would even defend a reward system that can easily put to shame any mega grinding asians MMO out there.
This update have nothing to do with pleasing the vets, but atract new playerbase to WvW, but how do you think people gonna react when they find out they have to put 2,3,4 even 7 times more work then other players just to achieve the same level of rewards, basically having to make GW2 WvW their second job. Not sure about other people, but last night when i played, didnt have a single map with a queue, even got EB with outnumbered.
In the end will be up to Anet to choose what they think is best for the game, but when people start leaving the game mode, dont start complaining that the devs give zero attention to WvW and all the maps are deserts with nobody to play with.

Oh right I remember that before wardrobe! You got mystic forge crafting drops related to your PvP rank which could be used to get more skins. And you didn’t get any PvE levels before so all the top level PvP players only had like level 5 toons and couldn’t do high-level PvE content. Gem-store skins you had to choose whether it was for PvE or PvP. Hehe. I kind of miss being able to wear different skins between PvE and PvP.

How unfair it was that all those skins vet PvP players had stored were converted to the new wardrobe system.

Pips are acquired through a combination of factors as I have previously pointed out and often fluctuate with everyone. The argument “we’ll never catch up to them” is an illusion based off the assumption that every vet qualifies for every bonus all of the time and that noobs don’t qualify for anything all of the time.

It is easier to attack the concept of bonus pips for WXP rank than it is to attack the base pip concept of 1 pip for third place, 2 pips for second place, and 3 pips for first place.

The players on the first place team are doing the same activity as the third place team. Look how unfair it is that they get more pips for doing the same thing!

WvW rank have absolutely no correlation with player performance and is not a somewhat valid indication of player skill.

I never said it correlated with player skill at “pvp”. It represents time and the acquisition of mastery skills that make WvW easier to play. It correlates with other account-based unlocks and bonuses. The argument that players are “doing the same thing” doesn’t exist because of this.

A new player can go play the “same” full meta in Verdant Brink without gliding unlocked yet. It isn’t easy and they are locked out of being able to finish certain achievements and other activities. Players who already have full masteries will find the meta easier to play. No one is posting how unfair this is to a new player because everyone understands that there is an equal access to progression for all accounts given enough time spent playing (recall that the base rate of progression had to be adjusted in HoT).

You are all basically complaining about the existence of an end-game progression system in WvW. There was a time when this game didn’t have ANY end-game progression. You hit rank 80 and that was it. It was boring and players wanted end-game progression.

WXP masteries were the first implementation of end-game progression before HoT added it to PvE. The only reason it goes up to Diamond is because Anet was trying to design for future expansion of masteries whereas in HoT they found it better to not add levels beyond what masteries were available. And just like in PvE where you hit max level of masteries or run out of mastery points causing additional XP gain to be “wasted”, WvW ranks beyond 1000 are also wasted and a source of complaints. In PvE you get a spirit shard if you are max rank. In WvW you got nothing until now in the form of extra pips. I’m fairly certain those few players who maxed out WXP rank got absolutely nothing from extra WXP gain unless they were still getting a rank-up chest.

My experience so far is I am doing everything these high rank player are doing, caping camps, towers, killing enemies, and i dont see them doing anymore than i am

Sorry, but you are not doing more dmg to walls and gates and guards and keep lords, you can’t give protection from arrow cart fire with a shield gen, you’re not applying structural vulnerability to gates, you’re not carrying larger amounts of supply, you can’t use the bubble on catas to prevent getting hit from trebs and mortars and other catas, you aren’t draining supply with the poison cow on trebs, etc. The list goes on. You don’t have the masteries so you aren’t doing the same. Moreover, you don’t have the experience to take a T3 defended keep nor experience in reading “map politics” in order to maximize your kills/WXP gain. You are not doing the same as vets.

A try hard pve commander was kicking everyone from squad last night apart from guards revs eles and necros. Even warriors were kicked, and refused to defend any structure that was being attack, he nearly ignored t3 bay until half of his squad went there anyway.

Theres inexperienced people sure know what they are doing and doing as much as vets.

Well it sounds like at least he’s trying to learn meta. “Map Politics” is not an easy thing to learn and even in sPvP with only three capture points there’s minimal information (lots of videos and blogs on it where it is called “rotations” and still is a source of confusion). WvW has more capture points which increases the complexity. IMHO commanders learning map rotations takes quite awhile and is completely dependent upon what their overarching goal in WvW is. Most pugs, especially those who are vets, won’t follow a tag that doesn’t go towards where fights are.

Exactly! Those of us who thought it was unfair that you could go play PvE and gain Power of the Mists bonuses without needing to step a foot into WvW are here to voice our opinions! VIVA! Why should we care that some stranger is here only now to complain about WvW rewards after 4 years? You are not owed anything.
